This review is from : eSata / Sata / IDE PCI RAID Controller Card VIA VT6421A Chip Set
Inexpensive and it delivers . There are a lot of negative reviews about this product out there, and yes, most of their gripes are valid. This card won't support 300G transfers, and it won't be detected before booting the OS, so you can't use it for a system drive. But it does everything it promises: supplies you with a SATA RAID controller, and even an extra IDE bus.
The long and the short of it is - a hard drive can barely keep up with the 150G transfer rate of the protocol version this uses, so unless you're using solid state storage, that gripe doesn't count. If you just want to add more storage to your existing computer, or just want to add SATA to a non-SATA computer, this works like a charm. Setup was easy, it worked right out of the box. I highly recommend it.
Some background on me - I have two electrical engineering degrees, and have worked in IT off and for the last 20 years. In my opinion, this is a good product for the money.
eSata / Sata / IDE PCI RAID Controller Card VIA VT6421A Chip Set Reviews
No problem with it . My cheap SATA card I got from eBay died, so I decided to buy another one with some assurance (Amazon reviews). Put the card in, Ubuntu 8.0.4 Server recognized it fine. Hookup my Seagate 1.5TB and it's working fine so far. I didn't test speed or anything, I just know I was able to read/write to that the 1.5TB drive w/ this SATA and so far it's working fine (~1 month). I'll update if this card ever give me trouble.
eSata / Sata / IDE PCI RAID Controller Card VIA VT6421A Chip Set Opinions
card works - after os loads . SATA card works in XEON XP system - after boot - I was hoping it would work off BIOS so I could Ghost system to SATA instead of problematic IDE. It works well after boot using a driver.
Just plug it in and it works. . Great little SATA/e-SATA card. I just plugged into the PCI slot on my old XP system and it works. Just a note: As was mentioned in other posts, only two ports work at a time; either the two internal SATA ports, or one SATA and one e-SATA. Still, a good little card for the price.
great for compatibility . The reason I got this one was because I had a few devices that weren't compatible with the integrated controller on my PC. I have yet to plug anything into this product with which it wouldn't interface.
Works well . Arrived quickly and it works. Came with a cable, which was nice, so I didn't have to buy it separately.

My computer didn't seem to recognize it at first, but after a couple reboots, it did.
Great combo card . This PCI card provides an upgrade path for older PC's without SATA support. It allows you to configure the SATA ports for internal or external use (with limits). Works fine under Windows control, but no onboard BIOS so the usefulness at boot time is more limited. Although I had no need for an extra IDE connection, the board also includes one IDE socket.
Must buy for PC's lacking sata ports. . This controller card works beautifully on a lot of Sata devices, I have since used it for a hard drive, and 2 DVD drives and both were recognized perfectly on Windows XP SP2. Very cheap yet good quality. Recommend definitely especially for older pc's lacking Sata ports. Buy it.
Awesome inexpensive RAID solution . I have this card installed on an E-machine running XP for the past week, as a RAID-1 mirror configuration. It is controlling two W.D. 640GB SATA drives and has eased my mind about loosing important data! with this inexpensive investment (one raid card, cables, power adapter and two sata drives) I can back up my three machines and also store my CCTV video. set up was easy, if you buy OEM drives make sure you have the necessary hard drive jumpers to slow down the hard drives (1.5gb transfer rate instead of the 3gb they run at) western digital has literature to show the jumper settings. I had the jumpers and i bought everything else hear at Amazon. i shopped around and I found the parts at amozon were the best price and value other sites were crooked!

Cons Review
Didn't work well at all for eSTATA Hard Drive . Bought this card specifically for doing system backups to an external hard drive. I can't attest to how well the internal SATA or IDE ports work. Installation went OK, Win7 correctly identified it and automatically downloaded drivers for it from Windows update. So I thought "Hey great, no need to fool with the mini CD driver disk labeled SUTUP SOFTWARE (sic)". I was averaging about 25-30 Mb per second transfers on the external hard drive via USB 2.0, and expected to multiply that by at least 2-3 times. But sadly, this card's eSATA port would jump off the starting block at about 75 Mb per second, then very quickly slow down to 50, then 25 then 10 and within 30 seconds transfer rates were down to 2-3 Mb per second. I benchmarked the drive using this card's eSATA port with no less than 6 different hard drive benchmark utilities, and every single one of them timed out (program not responding), due to bottlenecked inability to access and test the drive. I thought maybe the Win7 obtained driver was a possible culprit so I used the SUTUP SOFTWARE (sic) mini CD and it had NO DRIVERS for OS newer than XP on it, and all it did was install a startup RAID Tool that I didn't want or need and had trouble getting rid of (wouldn't uninstall through Control Panel - had to do it the brute force way). Then I searched the web and found a Vista driver for it that I also tried - it had a newer date by one month than the Win7 driver, but it was much worse - the whole OS bogged down with it in use and it took almost FIVE MINUTES for the external hard drive to even be recognized. I re-installed the original Win7 drivers and did one last eval on it. No dice. Ten minutes after commanding a 4 Gb file to be copied to the external drive, less than 2 Gb was transferred and the transfer rate was down to 2 Mb per second. What was I thinking expecting more from a $17 card? Didn't work for me.

This review is from : Quick Release Plate for the RC2 Rapid Connect Adapter
Plate Vastly Exceeded My Expectations . Although this is a reproduction, it really does the job. There is no difference between the original and the copy. It perfectly fits into the tripod head and the product is really good.

Cons Review
Not the Plate for A Valuable Camera . I thought I was getting a great price on a simple item; not so. This is NOT the Manfrotto RC2 Rapid Connect Adapter; it's an improperly tooled knock-off. At least the two I ordered were.
Because I bought another DSLR camera I needed another RC2 RCA to make connecting quick and easy. I ordered a second one just in case I wanted one on my point-and-shoot camera once-in-a-while. When they arrived I tested them. They failed the test: they are NOT properly tooled and would NOT allow the pin to go up inside the latch which would lock the plate (and the camera) from accidental release! Can you imagine your DSLR camera falling from a tripod or monopod because your hand brushed across a latch that wouldn't lock on a ten-dollar connecting plate? No.No. No.
I'm tossing them in the garbage so they will NEVER be used on a camera. I wouldn't be surprised if DBROTH runs some tests on the knock-offs and pulls them off their site (and AMAZON's) because I'm sure they don't want their good name tarnished by selling defective products.
I would have given the product no stars but the guide tells me that "ONE STAR = I HATE IT" so I gave it the one star.
I ordered the real MANFROTTO brand from AMAZON.COM when these two plates failed their test. The MANFROTTO plates passed with flying colors. Looking at these plates with the naked eye will fool you.

Gigabit Switch 5-Port Unmanaged 5/10/100/1000M RJ45

This review is from : TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch
It stays cool and that means I save money! . I needed another switch and I bought this one because it was inexpensive, was supposed to be energy-saving, and was well-reviewed across the net.
It works very well, and it runs cool - barely warm to the touch.
Compare that with my Cisco 5-port gigabit switch which is always HOT to the touch.
Heat is wasted electricity and ultimately challenges component reliability.
I would recommend this product to anyone.
TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch Reviews
Very nice inexpensive switch! . I ran out of ports on my router, so I purchased the switch to allow additional connections to the LAN. Works like a champ! They are inexpensive, very easy to install, and I Highly recommend them based on my experience with them! You cannot go wrong!!
Good product . Good little unmanaged switch - was able to plug it in and get gig speeds. Seems to be working pretty well so far.
TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch Opinions
Best value . The TP-Link 5 port switch was all I needed to split the connection from the cable internet modem to our two computers with maximum speed. I'm not big on wireless, and this does the job most effectively. Its uncomplicated, you just plug in the AC adapter, plug in your CAT6 cables and you are set. You need CAT6 cables, or else there is no point in upgrading to the gigabit swtich. CAT5 cables are only good for the 10-100 speeds.
It works what more can you ask? . I don't expect much from a switch. this delivers it.

it works out of the box. that's what i want.

no muss, no fuss.
Does what its supose to . I have 2, both have been working for over 2 months with out needing any attention. But the speed is not as fast as I was expecting, I gotten a max of 40MB second but usually its around 20-25MB. The computers connected to though my dlink dir-655 router gets about 80-90MB second, but I guess thats $20 vs $70.
Good gigabit switch . I've been needing some gigabit switches for giving Internet access to my TVs, Xbox, Satellite box, Roku, etc... and these fit the bill quite nicely.
Save money with good performance! . If you need a good gigabit switch and need to save money, this is a great option for you. Performance is great. I have noticed any problems in data transfer speeds or anything else. If you need more control within your switch, then this might not be the best for you. However, for someone that needs a good performing switch that is reliable and affordable, I recommend this for sure.
Gigabit Switch . It works as advertised, noted NO slow down in traffic, and was transparent to the router.I have daisy chained my growing network without having to go to an 8 port switch.
It works . Its a low priced gigabit switch. Considering all switches do the same thing, why pay more? This one has had zero problems since it was installed. Cheap and effective, don't even know its there cause it does what it is supposed to.

Caution: Only Wireless N ! . I can't use this device, because it is only wireless N. I'll need to replace my router to use it. So it will sit dormant until I decide (for reasons other than this application) that the router needs to be replaced.

So the purpose of this review is simply to warn other potential buyers that it is only N capable.

8 x 1 - 8 x HD-15 Keyboard/Mouse/Video - 1U - Rack-mountable - Analog KVM Switch

This review is from : TRENDnet 8-Port USB/PS/2 Rack Mount KVM Switch TK-803R (Black)
watch out for cables . I purchased one of these from Amazon and returned it (after talking to Trendnet tech support) because it didn't work--tried 3 computers, 3 mice, 4 keyboards--got a replacement, and it had the same problems.

I arranged a return (for refund) for the second one and then had a thought--perhaps the Trendnet 8 port KVM uses different KVM->computer cables than the 4 port I was replacing. The cables look the same--DB15 on the KVM end, DB15 and USB on the computer end. To shorten a painful story, you apparently can't use the same cables on the 8 port switch as you can on the 4 port switch. I'm too busy to look into all the details, but make sure that the cable you buy say that they will work with the switch that you buy...despite looking the same, they are not. Groan
TRENDnet 8-Port USB/PS/2 Rack Mount KVM Switch TK-803R (Black) Reviews
Works great at a great price . I really wasn't sure what to expect from this product. Based on it's price, I didn't expect much.
It was easy to setup. The construction seems durable. I now have it hooked up in a server room with eight servers and it works great. It hasn't skipped a beat.
The only negative would be the video quality dropped slightly when run through this box. Not a big deal since you will usually use this with servers.
Great Product . Great product...

Works just like the ad...easy to setup and just works..

Nohacks
TRENDnet 8-Port USB/PS/2 Rack Mount KVM Switch TK-803R (Black) Opinions
Wireless KB & Mice Need not Apply . I have the KVM installed and working. I tried to use with a wireless keyboard and mouse and had constant issues with the keyboard and mouse ceasing function. with a regular keyboard and mouse it works fine, even using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse, but wireless devices will not work properly. Also, you must have the item selected when you are booting it otherwise you will not be able to control the computer which means you have to manually power-up on a power failure instead of having systems set to auto-boot when power is restored. Has the standard hit scroll lock twice and then the number to switch between stations.
Easy to install and use . It does what it is supposed to do without problems. Looks good mounted on a rack and it's not expensive. What else can you ask for?

Cons Review
worthless with USB keys/mouse in our situation . This thing is nearly useless with USB keyboard/mouse, at least in our situation.
The mouse won't work at all for 20-30 seconds (cursor is frozen), then might work for 3-10 seconds, then won't work again. Repeat. Mouse clicks are also bad, sometimes you have to click 15-20 times for it to "take".
Keyboard commands are also compromised.
Trendnet tech support had nothing to suggest other than the usual litany of "what cable are you using, have you tried a different keyboard and mouse" etc. Of course we are using Trendnet cables, have tried 4 different brands of keyb/mouse, and still no usable results.
I can't condemn the product wholesale, perhaps the PCs we are using have some magic, voodoo settings that preclude their use with a KVM switch (he said facetiously). Buyer beware.
Buyer Beware: This thing just doesn't work . I purchased this item with the intent to control six different machines with a single keyboard and monitor. I was obviously disappointed when this device was unable to recognize the numerous known-good USB keyboards that I attempted to use. I would strongly caution any potential consumers of this product to consider a similar product from IOGear instead. That is, unless you enjoy going to your local UPS store to return defective merchandise.
Broke after 2 years . Pros:
- It's 1/3 the price of most other 8-port USB KVMs on the market.

Cons:
- No on-screen display makes it harder to set up, use, and troubleshoot
- It stopped working after 2 years of light use (tried resetting to factory defaults, still borked)

This review is from : TRENDnet 108Mbps 802.11G MIMO Wireless PCI Adapter
TRENDnet seems to be a good brand . I have had no problems with this wireless PCI Card. I bought it to replace a Linksys that did not have MIMO technology and I am very impressed with it's performance so far.

Cons Review
Good hardware bad software . After owning and tinkering with this for a while, I've found the hardware to be a good performer and that it works well IF you follow the right procedure to install it.

The supplied trendnet software is old (over a year as of this writing) and the one more recent update to the driver is not functional.

It appears that the software that comes with the product as I received it is the older 1.0.0.56 driver, which is microsoft WHQL certified. It appears that this driver does NOT support the WPA2 encryption method, as stated in the products marketing documentation. a newer driver (1.1.0.22) is posted on their web site and shows WPA2 support as its primary feature.

I've tried many configurations of both drivers with and without the trendnet supplied client configuration/monitoring/tray icon software. I get frequent windows blue screens (driver faults) with the WPA2 driver, windows explorer crashes and boot delays with the trendnet software.

I have had success in removing all traces of the trendnet software (if you installed any yet), download and unzip the 1.0.0.56 package from the trendnet web site to a directory, installing the card, and when windows boots and asks for it, telling it you do NOT want it to find the software itself and that you 'have disk', point it to the \driver subdirectory you created by unzipping the trendnet files, and using the windows networking configuration tools to configure your wireless connection including the security bits.

If you want WPA2, do not buy this card.

Under the trendnet and windows tools, I get three out of four bars of signal, which is less than my two laptops (dell 1390 equipped e1705 and intel centrino pentium M toshiba) but my actual download throughput is up to 20% higher with the trendnet card, so the MIMO/802.11g turbo capabilities are apparently providing some benefit, even though the reported signal strength isnt as good.

Do note also that i'm using this with a trendnet MIMO router that uses the same Atheros chip set. It may or may not work better or worse with routers that employ other chip sets, that do or dont have MIMO, or that do or do not employ a compatible 802.11g 'turbo' mode. Seems on reading reviews that some people enjoy less success with non atheros based routers but that may be just because they made the mistake of installing the trendnet software.

A parting shot, its fairly lame to release a product and then have the only update for the buggy software in over a year take the form of an uncertified, even more buggy driver...just so you can say you have a particular checkbox feature.

Feature TRENDnet 108Mbps 802.11G MIMO Wireless PCI Adapter

This review is from : Streaming Networks iRecord PRO Personal Media Recorder
Even with some minor issues It's still pretty nice. . Had this thing for at least several months, forgot when I bought it. But overall it's been very convenient. Long gone are the days of running wires from the TV to the computer and having to coordinate everything. Program a travel "thumb" stick with the type of format you want to record in... then press a button. It's nice to record TV and movie audio/video clips for my personal library.

Only annoying thing I found so far: every so often it freezes and stops recording, which sucks having to re-play the show over again. When it freezes on me, the light stays constantly on... I do find myself checking on the light often while recording, it's made me a little gun shy. But that's my only complaint.

Overall, it's nice to have a simple set-up by the TV area. Press of a button - done, it's recording. When finished, press one button, done. For how I record stuff, it works perfect.
Streaming Networks iRecord PRO Personal Media Recorder Reviews
Auto shuts down . The device would automatically shut down without warning. Does not notify wether or not the recording has stopped. Cannot copy copyrighted DVD's. But easy to use and performs as advertised.
Streaming Networks iRecord PRO Personal Media Recorder Opinions
at least 3 devices in one . Wanna digitalize your old LPs?
Wanna digitalize your old VHS tapes?
If you have an iPod, would you like to preprogram recording from a TV or set-top box wherever you happen to stay while traveling?

iRecord Pro is an answer for each of those purposes and, afaik, the only answer for all three. Works perfectly for me for all three purposes. Needless to say that anything you digitalize onto your ipod or usb stick (or smartphone) with the irecord pro is easy to burn as a cd (audio or video) or dvd afterwards.

I should mention that this is not (yet) an HD device. Audio, by the way, I reocmmend recording onto a stick at full/lossless/wave; Let itunes or whatever you use on the computer do the compression to whatever you prefer (I choose 256kb VBR) before you transfer the music to an ipod or a CD or whatever.
Excellent quality video encoding . I have been purchasing both professional and consumer grade video encoders for many years and the iRecord Pro is probably the best that I have come across for s-Video/composite input capture. It does a great job of turning even poor quality input into acceptable digitized media and is quite outstanding with good quality input. The de-interlacing capabilities are unparalleled in my experience, even with products costing 10-20 times the price. The MP4 video is a snap to trim with Apple's Quicktime Pro software and it can be imported via iTunes into the iPad easily. The resulting video is rather bulky at approx 1.1 GB per hour and so is more appropriate for local viewing rather than using as is on the Internet. The reports about the unit having a noise fan when in use are correct and that probably should be corrected by the manufacturer. I could imagine that being very inconvenient for some uses of this encoder but I can live with it for my purposes. Since the audio is captured directly, the noise does not get onto the final product. I have not tried transcoding from the media yet but expect that to work fine.
