Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE

The WAP2000 is a Wireless Access Point ideal for small businesses that want to expand their existing wired networks or create new wireless networks for the workforce or guests. It features RangeBooster technology that is compatible to standard 802.11g but with a range up to two times farther and throughput by up to 35 faster. Unlike ordinary wireless technologies that are hampered by wireless signals that reflect off walls, ceilings, and other objects, RangeBooster uses these multiple signals with two smart receivers at each end (router or access point and client adapter) to boost range and throughput speeds. As a result, a RangeBooster solution reduces or eliminates wireless signal deadspots in offices and other buildings so users can connect to the network in more areas. The WAP2000 comes with 3 dBi antennas for increased power, also helping to extend the range of the Access Point.

This review is from : Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE
Pleasantly surprised . I bought this product to provide secure wireless services to our company network. I was pleasantly surprised that it has support for multiple SSIDs with tagged VLAN support (useful for creating a "guest" network for visitors, as well as a separate secure internal network). It supports WPA2-Enterprise, which I'm using together with Windows Server 2003 IAS to allow domain users to be authenticated to the network using their windows login automatically. I was fully expecting problems deploying this somewhat bleading-edge feature, but so far it's worked perfectly (aside from the hassles associated with Microsoft's poor group policy support for WPA2 in XP Pro). The unit has never requiring a restart since I installed it. The physical hardware seems well made also. I'm not using the POE support, because the range on this AP is good enough to allow it to sit in our phone room and cover the entire floor. Overall, this product feels like it's benefited from the Cisco influence, unlike some of Linksys' other recent efforts.
Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE Reviews
Linksys 2 Satisfaction . I had a home office and a Linksys WRT54g router. I wanted to secure my network more and have more LAN ports, but still have wifi. So I bought this AP, a Linksys VPN firewall Router, and an 8-port switch. Had the AP, the switch, my printer, and NAS plugged into the VPN Router, and my computers to the Switch. Worked flawlessy. This baby has serious range. I would go get the mail (our driveway is about 1/4 mile, and my iPhone would still be connected to the wifi this thing puts out. Also it is so much more secure than a regular 4 port wireless router. You can assigned the IP for it, which will be the gateway for the devices connected. Secure, safe, and awesome. Not for the technically challenged. But easy to you if you should be using it.
Easy Set Up . These WAPs were very easy to set up, and have performed great. Manual included in box on a CD. Purchased 2 units. and would purchase again.
very pleased . great price and a great product. it provides excellent reception throughout the house and yard.
Cisco WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point - POE Opinions
Not the best you could get . Its not the best you can buy for this price, but still a very decently priced AP. The configuration is pretty straight forward and its well documented as well.

Cons Review
Not so simple to set up . I chose this Access Point instead of replacing my non-wireless router so that I could install wireless without messing around with my existing router settings. Big mistake. Yes, I received a wireless signal instantly, but gaining access to the administrative interface proved much more difficult because the IPs do not set automatically. The instructions are, of course, worse than useless. There are pictures and detailed explanations on how to insert the power adapter into the back of the machine or attach the machine to a wall (duh!) but absolutely nothing on the really critical issue of troubleshooting interface problems. Nada. The web, of course, has some useful information that can help but it wasn't enough to solve the problem. I spoke to an IT professional who has a good understanding of IPs and we worked through the problem only to discover that there was an additional conflict with my Gateway PC that also needed to be addressed. At this point I took the pragmatic approach and returned the Access Point to Amazon. I switched from cable to FIOS, with a free wireless/ LAN router. That has worked fine.

This review is from : 3COM Corp OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 54 MBPS ( 3CRTRV10075-US )
Very nice access point and Excellent Technical Support . Regarding this fine piece of equipment its everything they saying it is, Excellent security , all the options you can think of, very easy to use, and they have AMAZINGLY good support, which is rare to find these days, I messed it up updating the firmware, I called them, very friendly staff, they asked me to send it back, 2 weeks later I got another one new in box updated with latest firmware, for me no more brands its always going to be 3Com
3COM Corp OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 54 MBPS ( 3CRTRV10075-US ) Reviews
Ok; but you can do better . I bought this product because I heard a favorable review of it on the radio. The product is about the size of a pack of cards, and includes a short ethernet cable to connect it as needed, and a power pack. A carrying case is included to take things on the road. The directions were not very clear. If you aren't a techie (that's me), there were many gaps in the directions for installation. One example was when I had to label a network as "ad hoc" or "infrastructure." The process became so frustrating, that I looked at the installation manual of a competing product: the D-Link Pocket Router. I downloaded its installation manual and looked it over. All the geek terms that 3Com took for granted were shown and explained in the D-Link manual. I then set the 3Com settings using the D-Link provided information. It worked fine. But, of course, by then I was interested in the D-Link Pocket Router and ordered it. I am much happier with this product for several reasons: First, as noted there is a detailed manual with full color pictures explaining things every step of the way; second, it is much smaller than the 3Com product, about 1/2 its size; third, and very important, the D-Link pocket router can be powered with its own power source, or you can hook it up using an included usb cable to your computer. So you don't have to have the external power source to hook it up; 4th, with a $10 rebate, it was less than half the cost of the 3Com. Bottom line? I kept the D-Link and returned the 3Com. It performs very well, is lighter, cheaper, and more versatile.
3COM Corp OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 54 MBPS ( 3CRTRV10075-US ) Opinions
Handy WiFi for Palm Life Drive . When I travel I use my Life Drive to stay connected. It has built in WiFi and when staying at hotels with WiFi this is great, but some still have only Ethernet connections in the room. That leaves me unable to connect my Life Drive. This device fixes that problem. It doesn't take up much room and is easy to set up.

Cons Review
Travel router that should stay at home . Bought this router thinking it would help me during my travels. The size and features are nice - it has 3 modes (router, ap and client) which is one more than others (client is extra - handy for machines that only have a hard wired ethernet and you want to go wireless). It does run hot, but seems to be ok. The web interface is a little confusing - you configure each mode seperately. But there is a button to copy settings from one to the other so it's made somewhat easier.

Now for the bad - the DHCP and/or DNS is seriously broken. When plugged in at home for tests to my Comcast cable modem, the WAN IP address would expire after 1 hr and then not automatically renew. I tried manually doing it via the web interface and same problem. Then I found while travelling that in some hotels the DNS capability to clients would disappear or die. No pattern to that. Even after downloading the latest firmware (2.0.28) the problem persists. And there don't seem to be any more firmware updates (since about 2005) so that tells you pretty much where this product is headed.

Overall, a major disappointment. Better off with the D-Link travel router which seems rock solid and is smaller to boot.

Feature 3COM Corp OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 54 MBPS ( 3CRTRV10075-US )

  • Lightweight router for travelling
  • No larger than a deck of cards, the travel router packs neatly into a briefcase or overnight bag
  • Create a private hot spot and share secure high-speed Internet access
  • Supports up to 16 wireless users at speeds up to 54 Mbps in AP or Router mode
  • Advanced WPA encryption strengthens basic WEP encryption to help protect all communications over the WLAN

Intel AnyPoint Phoneline 10 Mbps USB Adapter

This review is from : Intel AnyPoint Phoneline 10 Mbps USB Adapter
Good once you get it set up . When I first installed the anypoint network it worked fine except for Intel's Internet Connection Sharing. The performace degraded so bad that I was running less than a 14.4K modem speed on my ICS clients. I re-installed it with everything except the Internet Connection Sharing. Then I ran Microsoft's Home Network Wizard. It has worked up to par ever since.
Intel AnyPoint Phoneline 10 Mbps USB Adapter Reviews
Intel Anypoint Adapter . I have four computers networked and working very well with this adapter -- for more than a year. There are some bugs. You need to use Intel Connectivity Suite 2.20 for the best stability and ease of use on the Windows 98 platform. You need to manually give the computers IP addresses for the local network (LAN) -- 192.168.01, etc. for the best stability. If you have one computer on XP, then you must use version 2.30.02 (downloadable from Intel) on all of the computers. If XP and 2.30.02 are in the equation, then I would suggest you use Microsoft ICS instead of Intel ISS for Internet Sharing -- again, it is just more stable and you then do not need to manually give the local comptuters IP addresses. Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued. However, Intel support -- both website and phone -- is still great for this product. ptb
Intel AnyPoint Phoneline 10 Mbps USB Adapter Opinions
Great for Home use . Works effectively at home. Easy to set up. Make sure you get the latest software from the Intel website. I needed to call Intel support and was disappointed that their rep told me to delete files that then required me to reload windows......... Notwithstanding this I highly recommend the product for Internet and printer sharing.
Great Product . No cables running throughout the house. Just plug into the phone lines. Easy installation, and the network is up and ready to go!
Good with DSL -- if you do it right . I run the Anypoint phone line system with a DSL and it works very well. However, when I installed it, I put both the DSL and the Anypoint network on the same phone line -- this, on the advice of my DSL provider, who said the two would get along fine in the same piece of wire. Don't know why, but it simply didn't work -- the computers couldn't find one another on the line. I then switched the Anypoint network to our second phone line, and it works like a charm -- no degradation of speed most of the time, and just a little bit of hesitation when all three computers are actively downloading data. If you are going DSL, however, I recommend two phone lines.
Works great for a simple home network. . I've been using mine for over a year with no problems. The adapters work great in my place, and I have some *old* phone wiring.

Cons Review
Not a very good product . I should begin this with a disclaimer: I work for Intel and love the company. Having said that what I am about to say pains me. Anypoint is not a very good product and I do not recommend buying it. (Granted from discussions with others all of the HomePNA [phone line] products on the market seem pretty lousy.)My story:I ordered Anypoint to network two brand new high end computers (a Win98SE PC and Win2000 laptop) together so I could share the DSL connection. The PCs sit on opposite ends of the house and I didn't feel like crawling around with cables or spending a lot of money on a wireless network. I dutifully downloaded all the latest software updates. I am familiar with networking so I carefully checked all of my settings.Fact: My DSL connection slowed to a crawl or stop at times. I called the Intel tech support several times and every one of time they said, "we hear lots of complaints, it just doesn't work well with DSL.."Fact: My computer crashed with alarming frequency (a problem recently fixed by a driver update that caused my computer to spend about 7 minutes booting up).Fact: Anypoint did not work well with my Norton Firewall and it took a lot of tweaking of advanced settings before I could get it to (barely) work.Fact: Anypoint doesn't work well with Win2K and despite claiming to support it the drivers just aren't healthy. I was told by a tech support person that "it is really best to have only Win98SE computers on an Anypoint network."To top it all off, I never got the full... rebate I earned for buying two Anypoint products. First of all I never got my rebate. I called to see what was wrong and they told me I had not included the UPCs. I told them I knew they had the UPCs because I taped the receipts, UPCs, and rebate forms to once piece of paper. I spoke to a supervisor and told her that I worked for Intel and would walk across the campus and into the cubicle of the senior manger in charge of the home networking products if they continued to play games. They quickly changed their tune and promised my rebate was on the way. Finally a check arrived for half the amount!.. I complained to Intel through the official website and the company processing the rebates. It turned out that no one was getting their full rebate! The rebate company blamed Intel saying that is what they were told to do. I was promised that this would be fixed and that everyone would get their full [refund]. Well I never got mine and I doubt anyone ever got theirs. I should have raised a fuss, but frankly I was tired of the whole deal. Most of the fault lies with the company processing the rebates but I hold Intel's Home Networking group responsible for hiring such a lousy outfit.I think this product will work well if you have a 56K modem because the lag caused by the Anypoint probably isn't noticeable. However there isn't enough bandwidth on a 56K modem worth sharing, so I don't suggest you try that with any product on the market today. It might work better for DSL users without a firewall, but a DSL line without a firewall is a hackers dream. If you don't want to share an internet connection then Anypoint might be worth a shot. So if you have DSL, or Win2K, stay away!!! How did I solve my problem?I disconnected and uninstalled the whole mess. Instantly my Internet was faster and my computer booted in the usual 30 seconds. I went out and bought a Compaq Ipaq CP-2W and Compaq wireless networking PCcard. It was very simple to setup and the Internet just screams. It cost about three times as much and was worth every penny. You can save some money and buy your wireless products from Linksys but the drivers and firmware arent as robust (my partially informed opinion) and it isnt as user friendly (100% sure on this point).By the way I still believe that Intel designs great products; this just isn't one of them.
Hardware conflict . There is an undocumented conflict between this device and some Intel chipsets which you may or may not have on your motherboard. It will cause the device to stop functionning at random intervals. Problem is similar to a documented issue with an Anypoint Wireless device which has a hotfix (this one remains undocumented because no hotfix is yet available).
Complaint . The product is ok. howewer the Cd.Supposedly containing the instalation software Version 1.10 does not contain the instalation program for the Intel Anypoint Phone Line 10 Mbps USB Adapter I purchased. It simply does not recognize the product.I would greatly appreciate Your assistance in getting the aproppiate software so I could install the modems.Thank You in advance, Adalberto

TP-Link TD-W8901G 54M Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router, Data Rates Downstream: Up to 24Mbps

This review is from : TP-Link WL RT TD-W8901G 4Port 54M
TP-Link cost me additional $49. . The problem was with the directions in the book. Called AT&T to configure and they charged me a one time fee. But the upside is I now have wi-fi. Should have purchased router from AT&T and spread the cost over a few months. Live in a area where my iPhone can't get 3G So connection without wi-fi makes the iPhone useless.

Cons Review
Could not get it to work with AT&T . Seems like a nice unit, bought it to replace my old "2Wire" modem, which still worked ok most of the time. The TP would not log on to my DSL no matter what I did. Called the cust service line 2x and spoke to 2 different reps, spent nearly 2 hrs on the phone with their diagnostics but the second one finally gave up and said he couldn't do a thing for me. I sent it back to the seller after getting auth from Amazon. Got my credit but still out $10 for return postage. It may work on your system but sure didn't on mine. I finally went to Fry's and bought a different brand for about $20 more but it works.

Used with Verizon V740 ExpressCard -- works perfectly! Highly Configurable! . This product is fantastic! It is small, about the size of a wallet, and is brilliantly designed! It can create a wireless network from almost any device from a wireless carrier! Simply activate your card, plug it in to the device, and you have a highly-configurable wireless router.

I used it with the Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard and was very impressed. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ACTIVATE your wireless device with your service provider before trying to use it with the router. Once activated, the Cradlepoint router connects to the service, and opens up a WAP-type network like you see at Starbucks.

It looks like an open (unprotected) network on your wireless network list, but after connecting, requires you enter a password. It has a myriad of different configuration options and is incredibly user friendly.

A terrific purchase for anyone looking to share a mobile wireless connection!
works as it should . It's a good router. Keep in mind that it doesn't have an internal battery so requires a place to plug it in.
Very cool easy to setup . This product is super easy to setup and is a great way to create a wireless hotspot with my wireless card
Cradlepoint CTR-500 Travel Broadband Router + Accessory Kit Reviews
Excellent Item - Easy to Configure Works with Sprint U301 - Great Chat Support . I just bought this as I am a travel warrior and needed to access the internet from both my PC and my iPad. I have Sprint 3G/4G service through a U301 USB modem. At first the unit did not connect so I checked the cradlepoint web page where it says that my Sprint modem was supported. In order to know which version to load, I decided to chat with a customer service agent. After just 3 minutes of waiting time, he prompted me to download two bin files for my firmware and for my modem. He also gave me instructions on where in the setup page to upload the files to the CTR500. In less than 10 minutes I was up and running.. Excellent product... Excellent support.. Great guys.. I sincerely recommend this product. AWESOME!!!

Worked Perfectly for me for 2 years . Worked Perfectly for me for 2 years. I believe the previous review was more directed at VZW's service than it's card. Google search Verizon Wireless UM150 and you will find this unit consistently earns four out of five stars.
Pantech UM150 Verizon USB 3G aircard Modem ESN clean Reviews
Good deal great delivery . I bought this to replace the Alltel UM150 that died after 3 years. I had tried Verizon's USB760 modem but the UM150 always received a better signal. If I remember correctly promised delivery was a week to 10 days. I received it 2 days after ordering it. Thinking about getting another one as a backup.

Cons Review
Not Good . Verizon Wireless will hound you once they have your details. Even when you return their sub-standard products, they will continue to charge for for their 'services'.

Definately, the worst American company I have came across. Avoid them at all cost - Watchdog.

This review is from : 3Com 3C19250 HomeConnect Ethernet USB Adapter
USB LAN connectivity that makes sense . This was my second attempt to get add a USB solution to my LAN, and it was fabulously more successful than the competitor by D-Link. It is the perfect solution for someone wanting to quickly add (and remove) a portable from a larger network, or to add a desktop that's already used all its PCI slots on other kinds of cards. Installation was entirely easy. The documentation was superb. I was up and running in literally ten minutes. There are drawbacks to this solution over the traditional internal card solution, however. First, it's only capable of 10/Base-T connections. This speed is more than enough for almost any possible current use, but down the road a couple of years, this speed might well be insufficient. Second, unplugging the device accidentally means re-configuring it when you plug it back in. This kind of thing can't happen with an in-the-box PCI card. These are minor annoyances though, at worst. Overall, this is clearly an excellent, low-cost solution that doesn't waste a valuable PCI slot on a fairly routine matter of connectivity.
3Com 3C19250 HomeConnect Ethernet USB Adapter Reviews
A great solution . We have an older Packard Bell which I was able to upgrade to its maximum of 64 MB of memory and Windows 98. It works well in a small office for word processing, etc but without a network card it couldn't share files with the newer machines. This Packard Bell has no PCI or ISA slots, so there was no way to add a regular network card. Fortunately, it has one USB port, so a USB-Ethernet adapter is the perfect solution. This 3Com USB NIC is easy to install: Run the driver software and plug in the NIC. Then, check the usual network settings, and you're in business. Now the computer is networked to the other machines through a LinkSys router, and has high speed internet access, too.
3Com 3C19250 HomeConnect Ethernet USB Adapter Opinions
Just as advertised . Just would like you to know that this item worked as advertised. Installation was a breeze. I would say it is almost impossible to make a mistake.

Cons Review
3COM USB NIC for Win98 . I received my 3COM USB NIC from Amazon.... and attempted to install it on a Compaq Pentium III running Win2000 and realized that on the 3Com package, it clearly states that the device is "USB for Win98" (a fact not specified on Amazon.com). 3Com's website does not contain drivers to download for W2K, so I am having to return the item. If you are running Windows 2000, be careful. I called 3COM for tech support (a long distance call) but hung up after 5 minutes of hold time.
10Mbps not Windows 2000 compatible. . It's not to say that it won't work, and that it won't work for you, but I think it was a poor product release by 3com, who makes many of the best networking devices out there. The 10Mbps only limits your connectivity option wether or not you NEED the speed or not. For instance, you might have a 100Mbps only hub, or a 10Mbps device might make your 100Mbps segment less efficient. Also, this device is not Windows 2000 compliant which makes it useless in my organization. If you run Windows 98, and are a home user, it will likely work for you, but I think the 10/100 Linksys product is superior and is less expensive.

Feature 3Com 3C19250 HomeConnect Ethernet USB Adapter

  • USB makes for easy installation
  • Works with any PC equipped with a USB port and Windows '98
  • Space-saver, requires no external power supply
  • Users can share peripherals, files and Internet connections
  • Compatible with existing LAN installations/10BASE-T

Railink Wireless LAN . It is a good one. Didn't give me any problems, and it also got delivered on time. No stress installing it. It came with the software cd so you could just install it before you turn off the computer, and plug it onto your cpu motherboard on the pci port. Its worth the cost.

Seems fine so far . I have just installed one of these, and it seems to work just fine. I did need help from the manufacturer's tech support folks, though, and that is why I have written this review. The phone number in the materials that came with the router will not help you; you get a recording asking you for a PIN, which is not supplied with the router. THE PHONE NUMBER TO CALL is (626) 606-3108; the friendly woman I spoke with there patiently talked me through the installation.
No Geek Needed - Wireless N Router: Home Reviews
best wireless router . been using this router for seven months now. I absolutely love it. Get excellent reception in my house and connect all of my devices without a problem (iphone, ipod, laptop, wii). At this price, you cant beat it. Im actually on here to order another router as a gift for my brother. P.S. as far as the initial set up (no geek needed) i found it pretty easy to set up though it did take longer than anticipated. all in all, I was using the router within twenty minutes of set up....dont think that was too bad at all

Amped Wireless A/V Net Connect (AV3000)

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
The AV3000 Amped Wireless A/V Net Connect connects your Internet-ready audio and video devices, such as Blu-ray players, game consoles, Internet-ready TVs and more, to your home WiFi network for Internet access. The A/V Net Connect eliminates the need to run Ethernet cables to your media center by creating a connection to your home WiFi network using built in WiFi amplifiers to ensure a reliable connection that’s fast enough for HD media streaming and online gaming. The A/V Net Connect connects to your A/V devices using the five (5) Ethernet ports on the back panel. In addition, the A/V Net Connect also boosts and repeats the WiFi signal from your home WiFi network so that other WiFi enabled A/V devices can connect to the A/V Net Connect for a more reliable connection.

This review is from : Amped Wireless A/V Net Connect (AV3000)
Amped Wireless AV3000 rocks! . While upgrading my home theater receiver I knew I had to finally bring a strong Internet connection into my media room, but pulling wire was going to be way too much hassle, so I went looking for a reliable wireless n bridge router. After researching a number of products from brands I was familiar with, I came across the Amped Wireless AV3000. I'd never heard of the company before, but the reviews were as strong (stronger) as any I'd read and the price was very reasonable, so I bought one. I'm so glad I did--it rocks! Set-up was easy, save for needing to access the unit by the IP address as the URL didn't work for me. This must be fairly common as it is clearly explained in the set up instructions. Once past that, setup was a breeze and I was up and running in no time. I now have my new receiver (Marantz SR7005--totally awesome!!!), my Oppo Blu-Ray and my Tivo HD all wired to the AV3000 and everything works great. In the past when streaming Netflicks through Tivo using the Tivo wireless g connection we had to suffer through numerous pauses during the first fifteen minutes or so as the movie downloaded, even at a less than ideal resolution. With the AV3000, even the highest res streaming flies without a hitch. Sweet. I highly recommend this bridge to anyone looking for a reasonable cost, effective solution to getting wired connections in locations that are hard to pull wire to. You won't regret it.
Amped Wireless A/V Net Connect (AV3000) Reviews
Set and forget plus adds range to my wifi network . Not only does this function as an access point to my home wifi (my wireless adapter card kept constantly dropping connection), this will increase range to your home network by at least 70 feet. In my room (where the av connect is) i used to get3 bars, now i have full 5 bars of signal.

#1 reason why you should get this, Because I am using it mainly to connect my desktop, the ethernet connection made it i do not have to install any drivers or anything else, just plug in the ethernet cable and youre good to go! its as simple as that, upon first use, you set up the name, and whether or not to use the av connect as a wireless repeater.

You can use any basic cat5 or cat 6 cable because maximum speed for wireless N right now is 300mbps so a 1gbps cable is not needed.

Even though my router rarely has any problems, its nice to know that amped wireless will "self heal" the connection, meaning it will constantly try to reconnect if connection is ever dropped.

Keep note, it is much smaller than i expected it to be, probably half the size of a normal router, but it packs a punch!it can be mounted on a wall or has a stand so it can be vertical.

the 2 antannaes can be replaced with more powerful ones, but the until itself should already suffice, as the av connect amplifies its signals with a 100mw low noise amp i believe, ( i might be wrong on the exact wattage).

You can control how big of a wireless field the unit emits from max to none at all which is nice if you have a small house or if you dont want the feeling of 100% wifi signal pulsing through your body.

Ive had this for 2 weeks now and i love it, literally 0 issues whatsoever. sure its 100 bucks but id rather spend it knowing i dont have to worry about my internet connection again rather than having to frustrate over a crappy $50 that keeps dropping the connection in the middle of netflix.
Amped Wireless A/V Net Connect (AV3000) Opinions
Works well . I got this a few days ago, and it works well. I connected my Slingbox and Xbox and no problems so far. Also, the wifi signal at home is stronger than it was before with just our wireless router.

Ran into a minor issue on install, so I called tech support and they got me sorted out quickly.
Does NOT work with WPA2 (modern) security. Does work with WPA (mixed) and WEP . I will make this short and sweet. I have bought 3 of these things. The first one didn't work. I returned it after being on the phone with the Amped Wireless people, and my internet service provider (Surewest Broadband), and having a service technician come out and look at it. They all guessed that the unit was faulty/bad, so I returned it and ordered a replacement. The second one worked (go figure). I recently ordered a third one, because I wanted to add an access point to another room. The reason I wanted THESE particular wireless repeaters, is because they ALSO have Ethernet ports. That allows older devices (like 1st and 2nd generation blu-ray players) that are capable of going online only with a wired connection, to still work. The 3rd one didn't work either, and, as an added bonus -- it knocked my 2nd one (which had been working up to that point) offline, and I couldn't get it back online after that (must have been a fluke that I got it connected at all in the first place). The symptoms for the units not working are their inability to STAY connected to the network. They will connect, and then disconnect, over and over again. After the 3rd one KO'd the 2nd one, I called Amped and tried to get help. I left a message because it was after hours. Days later, I was tired of waiting for them to call me back, so I called my ISP. We tried *EVERYTHING* to get them working (three cheers for Surewest, by the way, their 24x7 tech support was AWESOME helping me work through this). After messing with what channel the router was on, and various other settings, we final stumbled across the fact that the security mode the router was set on, affected whether or not the Amped Wireless Repeater could connect or not. The repeater was able to connect, and stay connected, in WEP mode, and also WPA-mixed mode (but not the most current WPA2 mode). Now that we have monkeyed with literally all of the settings, and rebooted everything and got them all to connect, I am happy. But -- it was a *GIANT* hassle. I work with technology for a living, so I was fairly comfortable messing with these things. Additionally, my ISP locks me out of my router, and only they can mess with it remotely -- which can be irritating, but also means a professional is changing the settings. I cannot even imagine how a non-technically inclined person would handle buying the repeater, and having their home network set on WPA2, and not being able to connect the repeater to the network. They certainly wouldn't know how to log into their router and change security level settings. I imagine, that, like me, they would send it back as broken. Amped, when I talked to them, never mentioned the security settings on the router. The only thing they wanted to try was port forwarding, which, when we did do so with the ISP, didn't solve the issue. So, there you have it. When the device works, it is pretty awesome. But getting it to the point where it is working can be a chore. If yours works right out of the box with your network, then bump my review up to 4 stars. Otherwise, the 3 star rating stands.
Perfect . Hooked this up to my smart TV and it works great. Worked so well that I use this for all my WiFi devices now. No more lag or disconnects.
Poor setup for advanced networks . For the average home user, the setup is easy. Of course in making the setup easy it's a pita for the advanced network setup. The instructions inform you to fire up the unit, plug in an RJ-45 network cable and point your browser [...]. Of course the device is hard coded to 192.168.1.240 and assumes the pc you plug-in will use a dhcp client and not have a static address. The geniuses that setup the config web page insist on redirecting you to the FQDN [...] on the setup page, which of course fails because you have a static IP and are not using that domain from the device. So, first hurdle is to add an entry to your hosts file to redirect to 192.168.1.240. Then, change the IP address of the unit, and change the hosts file again. Of course if you set a static IP address for the unit, it doesn't accept a change the domain name, so once you get it set and try to navigate to the device from another PC using the IP address, it again attempts to redirect to the ampedwireless domain. GRR, stupid developers.

Once it's configured, it works great, but set aside 5x as long as you think it will take to configure if you have anything beyond a simple network.

UPDATE - 8/3/2011 - A new firmware version was released that allows the user to turn off the redirection to the FQDN! Good job Amped. Repeater still working well.
Seamless! . Rec'd yesterday- setup took minutes. I disconnected from my PC and placed in living room- connected Onkyo TX-NR708, PS3, Samsung LN40A LCD TV and ALL worked! It also serves as a reapeater! Very pleased.

Cons Review
Not so much . I purchased this a few days ago. Not very happy with the problems getting this thing to partially work.

Problem 1

The web interface would not work with a number of different browser/os combinations.

Problem 2

Some settings would not stay configured. Like setting the clock, setting a user ID and password, setting WAP2, Also it would not allow me to update the firmware.

Problem 3

I called their tech support and got a guy that must have been on his first or second day. Every question I asked he had to put me on hold and get someone else to help answer it.

This product is not very well tested. YMMV

Does not work with 2Wire modems . Setup was easy and started working right away. Which is why although I had to return it I gave it 2 stars.
Unfortunately after speaking with tech support I was told that there was a known issue with the brand of modem/router I have.
The brand is 2WIRE. I have AT&T U-Verse. The connection was intermittent at best and would work for a few hours and then drop. If you have another brand of modem I would recommend it.

Extremely difficult setup. . while the device looks decent and the defaults are in line with most home network settings, the difficulty comes when you try to do any sort of setup on the device.

First, the device ships with a static IP 192.168.1.240. This gets you into the setup wizard. Of course, that IP is no good as soon as the device reboots. You have to dig around your internet router to find out what dynamic IP address was assigned.

Second, there is an "Extended A/V network" which is basically an additional SSID that bridges into your existing wireless. Supposedly this is to extend range, but that could be implemented using repeater technology instead of overlaying frequencies that are sparse in an urban setting. This SSID ships with a default passcode that can easily be found on the internet, letting every kid with a prigles can into your network.

Finally, every time I try to disable the network, or make the device use a static IP address (both options in the Advanced setup) the device loses the home wireless configuration that was established using the wizard in the first place. This puts you back to square 1.

This device may function wonderfully IF I could ever get it setup. That is taking an exceptional amount of time and is not providing a good user experience. I would not purchase or recommend this product.
