USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 Highly Recommended . I originally purchased a Seagate 2TB drive with the USB 2.0 interface for backing up my 250gb hard drive. It took days (about 4) to back up 175gb. Browsing the drive was excruciatingly slow. Opted for the USB 3.0 kit and have seen vast improvements browsing files. Needed to backup system for preparation for Windows 7 install. Looking forward to seeing how much improvement in the system backing up the new OS.

The kit was easy to install. One note, the instructions did not show how to remove the 2.0 base and install the 3.0 base. The rest of the installation, card and software was quick and easy. Running Windows XP SP3, drive was not recognized. Software on Seagate drive was used to install the USB 3.0 drivers.

Happy with this purchase!

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter - USB 3.0 Kit STAE107 Opinions
Works with regular bare drives! . I had a few dying SATA drives that I didn't want to stick directly into my computer.
Picked up one of these on the cheap, and stuck a bare 3.5" SATA HDD onto this. My computer detected it immediately and I was able to grab the files I needed from the drives. Works with 2.5" as well.Note, if you use a bare drive, you need to add a little fluff at the bottom to keep the drive from bending (it will not sit flush with the stand)
Note, people with IDE drives are out of luck.
Simple and effective . Bought this to upgrade a USB 2.0 drive that I bought, and also to upgrade the PC I was going to use it with. The hard-drive adapter snaps on in seconds, and the card is very east to set up. Install it in the computer and install the drivers for it that are stored on the hard drive. Pretty simple, although it's important to pay attention to the instructions and do things in the right order.
Great little upgrade . Easy to install on the GoFlex backup drive and install in PC. Worked right from the start. Price was very resonably priced.
USB3 Seagate GO Flex adapter kit works fine . The Seagate USB3 GoFlex adapter kit was easy to install and works as promised. Although the increased speed is not obvious since the system is used entirely only as a backup system and works in the background.

Direct access to the backup files did show some improvement in speed but not an enormous amount. But this is very difficult to estimate since the actualy disc access time is a relatively small percentage of the time required for the software to access the appropriate backup file and unencrypt it. Thus it is heavily software bound.

Speed differences would be best estimated in a non backup setting where the access speed is not bound by backup software inadequacies.

Seagate 3 Tb External Drive and USB 3 Interface . The drive is nice, small, compact - but does not have a BASE and so a sudden movement on the table can DROP the drive. They need to put a BASE to it and slip that into it that way it is stable. A workaround would be to lay it on its belly which works just fine. The drive is fast, and awesome. The USB 3 was installed in under 10 seconds in the drive (snap on) and took under 5 minutes to install into a PC with drivers installed instantly. the instructions were simple and clear. Other than the stand, the only dislike I have about the drive is that when there is activity on the drive, there is a WHITE LED that dims and goes back to bright in a very slow motion - this is DIFFERENT (not bad - but different) than the fast blinking lights that we are used to - and typically green. I have 2.5 Terabyte that I am backing up to this drive and it works nearly non stop and has for the past 30 days - so far, it has performed FLAWLESSLY. It remains relatively cool to the touch - does not heat up that much . Overall - I like the drive and it is well worth every penny.

SMC Networks Worldwide EZ Connect SMCWUSB-N2 Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N2 Network Adapters - Wireless

This review is from : 802.11N Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N2
802.11N Wireless USB Adapter . I'am using the SMC adapter for my wireless connection on my "Ubuntu 10.4 Linux OS system", it works great, no problems what so ever...It gives me a great signal, to my router one can not ask for anything better...I tried NetGear's wireless adapter, and finally after hours trying to get it to work, when they said it would not work on Linux huh!...But I returned it, then I purchased the SMC 802.11N, all that I can say is it just works, a very good wireless adapter... I would buy SMC products if needed in my next purchase...
802.11N Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N2 Reviews
Works with the WD TV Live Plus . This normally wouldn't be my first choice for a wireless USB adapter, but it works great with the WD TV Live Plus, which is the primary reason I bought this.

Getting it to work is really easy. You simply plug the adapter in, go in to the network management and search for the access point. It may not connect the first time, just try again. The light does a rapid blinking when it connects (the LED is green).

It did drop my connection once, but it is relatively far away from the access point and between a wall.

Overall, I would rate the signal strength as very good (about 50 feet away between a wall).

The only con I can find is it is white, but I knew that before I purchased.
802.11N Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N2 Opinions
Cheap and works great! . I purchased this adapter for using it with Commview, I chose the cheapest adapter supported by commview and I am surprised, it just works!. To use this adapter with Commview you need at least Commview version 6.3. I am surprised this adapter support packet injection too, this helped me a lot in testing my WEP networks. The speed and range is excelent. I am so satisfied with this product.
works well on linux . shortly speaking, this adapter with Atheros 9170 chipset is very well supported by linux. Indeed, this item is exactly as on this page: The only difference is it's 3 times higher on Thinkpenguin site...
Ubuntu 10.4 wireless success!! . I also was able to use this wireless network adapter to connect to a wireless network via Ubuntu 10.4. To get it to work after loading Ubuntu 10.4 on my computer, I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk both of which came with the Ubuntu 10.4 download. Finally, I loaded the SMC driver for windows XP (arusb_xp.inf) on Ubuntu 10.4 using ndisgtk and the SMC adapter works great!
Strong Wifi adaptor . This adaptor really brings in the surrounding ISP's - it works as good as some I've had in the $100 range. I've had many other adaptors but this one seems to get a bit warm to the touch and tends to lose some of the distant ISP locations after being plugged in for an hour or so.
SMC Wireless Adapter . It allowed me to connect my XP computer to the internet via my SMC wireless router. I had no problems installing it.

Cons Review
Worked great initially . Worked great initially. After less than a year, however, the adapter started getting flaky. The desktop I was using it with started frequently losing its connection to the internet (but not its connection to the wireless router). "Repairing" the network connection on the desktop would always resolve the problem... until it happened again. Got to the point recently where it was sometimes dropping the internet connection multiple times per hour. So, in the garbage the wireless adapter went.

I've bought 3 SMC wireless adapters (each a different model) in the last couple of years and they've all failed similarly. On the other hand, I've had an SMC wireless router for the last several years and it's still performing flawlessly. Go figure.

Recently bought a couple of Medialink wireless adapters. So far, they've been perfect.
Didn't last. . I was disappointed by the short range of this adapter and it started dropping packets the moment I plugged it in. After a couple months, I was dropping connections so often I couldn't even expect a webpage to fully load. I've tried switching USB ports and rebooting, but it still fails. My router is only fifteen feet away, and it never drops connection to my two laptops. It was cheap, so I'm not out much money, it's just been annoying to have to deal with.
system crashes . This adapter worked for a while, but is now causing constant BSOD's (confirmed by whocrashed). There is no online resource to download an updated driver.

Follow instruction for Flashing v3 . O.k so the instructions on the website were a little confusing so here's my process.

Notes: A Hard 30/30/30 is when you hold the reset button for 30secs with power plug in,then 30 secs without power plug, then a final 30 secs with power plug in. During the entire process the reset button SHOULD BE HELD.

Step 1: Download-> http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Linksys/WRT160N/3.0/dd-wrt.v24-13309_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt160nv3.bin/2294

Step 2: Plug in the power for your router

Step 3: Plug your computer to your router, the Ethernet wire goes into any blue port, NOT THE YELLOW ONE.

Step 4: Do a hard 30/30/30 reset. See Note on how to do so.

Step 5: On your browser go to http://192.168.1.1

Step 5: It should say management mode, browse your computer for the firmware file, then upload. DONT TOUCH ANYTHING AFTER THIS, YOU COULD BRICK YOUR ROUTER.

Step 6: After the browser says upload complete, check your routers light and make sure the WAN,Wireless and power lights are steady.

Step 7: Then go to http://192.168.1.1 on browser, if it doesnt connect, then take the power off your router and wait 10 secs and replug and go to http://192.168.1.1.

Step 8: Once inside the browser, do a hard 30/30/30 reset after naming and putting a password on router and logging in.

Thats it your router is ready. You should upgrade to the newest firmware build 2010-08-09 mini one.

To upgrade download http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Linksys/WRT160N/3.0/dd-wrt.v24-14896_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin/3758

Do a hard 30/30/30 reset then log into router, you'll have to rename and make a password again. Then go to advanced tab and click firmware upgrade, choose firmware..then follow the browser instructions. After installs done, do another hard 30/30/30 reset and you're good to go.

Best router for the Price! . Buy ONLY Version 3 !!!!!
I can write almost a Book on just this device. I bought three, because one or two wasn't enough. I got one for me and mom & dad and friends for her new computer. -->BUT<--!!!!! I flashed the firmware the moment I got it to dd-wrt software(3rd party firmware). The Best stable firmware I ever used and best for security for online access. I feel sorry for those who don't know or don't know how to "flash" their routers that support that 2 Megabyte minimum requirement to flash their (DD-WRT software). The default power supply (the plug that gives it power) is NOT enough at 500 ma. you MUST buy a 12 volt 1 Amp to run this router without it "Rebooting" cycling over-and-over. SO, if you think it DOES NOT work??? Try changing out the power plug to higher ampere's (12V 1A)and smile. This is the Best Router for between (20~40 US Dollars). Sorry for those paid more than and didn't know what you got in your hands is the Best stable router I used. I have used the Cisco Systems Routers that the Internet is made up of, and "THIS" router is the closest to the "Real-Deal". yes,"linksys" has a okay default firmware. *eye's rolls* okay I made my point more than once. Chow!
Good one . Good Product. No Problems so far.Working to my needs for a google tv, iphone, desktop, laptop. No signal drops, etc.
Linksys WRT160N-RM Version 3 Wireless-N Broadband Refurbished Router - WRT160N-RM / WRT160NRM (Refurbished by Linksys / Cisco with a 90 Day Warranty) Opinions
Perfect little router for DD-WRT. . This router was just what the Dr. ordered. I was able to load DD-WRT on this with a specific purpose in mind. I was able to use the OpenVPN client in DD-WRT to make this router be solely for VPN traffic.

With the N speed on this little refurbished beast, it is perfect for what I needed. The lack of gig ports for the router is not a surprise as I am utilizing the wireless for a specific reason. This router/version I received was able to run on 220v making it useful if I were to travel out of the US.

A 5Ghz radio would be nice to have as the RF Spectrum seems to get a little messy in urban areas.

Using this router gave me the ability to use wireless at an extended distance, it was able to burn through the walls of my house just as well as my WRT610. Using the opensource firmware I was able to increase wattage out as well if needed, but be careful you don't blow your radio.

I was a little nervous about purchasing a refurbished router however I purchased over 15 of them from a vendor on here and they have been 15/15 no questions asked. I would say if you did purchase one and it was DOA, maybe you just have bad luck... or I just have really good luck.

Enjoy

Cons Review
Junk - constant restarts . This router is a piece of junk. Sometimes it will restart every 5 minutes. Especially when using some application that actually uses Internet (streaming, torrent). Yes, it's sleek and the speed is OK - at least for me - but the constant drops are awful.
I am now on the second WRT160N since I replaces the previous one because of the restarts. Well, the second one is the same rubbish. Both were latest revision 3 with latest firmare 3.0.3.
Do not buy!P.S. Hitting "Post" I saw that the connection has been dropped again
WARNING: Product title misleading. . I purchased this router (for a premium from Electronica Direct) because it's advertised specifically as version 3. However, I received VERSION 2! This is very disappointing, as dd-wrt will only install on version 3 (or the obsolete v1). Without dd-wrt (a custom firmware) this router is mediocre at best. I haven't decided whether to return the router or not, as it's for a friend who has a very simple network.

You've been warned.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY . Linksys apparently sells refurbished items that have failing parts. After using this router for 2 weeks, it no longer worked- not because of a standard router problem, or because I am too stupid to use a router- but because the ethernet "internet" outlet on the back failed. That's right- the original user probably had it fail on them, and Linksys just repackaged and sold this garbage right back to me.

Oh, and here are some other interesting problems. Somehow, while using this router, several links on certain websites simply couldn't open (For instance, on espn.com). If I switched to another available network on my computer, presto! They functioned.

This is my 5th or 6th Linksys router in my life, and none of them have worked well. Many have simply ceased to work and needed to be physically connected to my computer to get going again, or would inexplicably slow to a crawl over time. I do not recommend this router, particularly a refurbished unit, and if you can avoid it, I would not use Linksys.

This easy to install and configure PCI Express card from Cables Unlimited adds a parallel port to any newer PC, with an extra PCI Express slot. This simple and reliable card is compatible with most parallel peripherals and provides the most convenient way of connecting legacy parallel devices to newer PCs.

This review is from : Cables Unlimited 1 -Port Parallel PCI Express Card (IOC1700)
Works with Mac Pro and Windows XP . I needed to print to a legacy printer from Windows XP (via Bootcamp) on a 2008 Mac Pro and the card works as advertised. The only pain was having to go to the chipset (not the card) manufacturer's website to get drivers for it. I also had to make an account on their website just to download the drivers. A one-time pain, but hey the card works.
Cables Unlimited 1 -Port Parallel PCI Express Card (IOC1700) Reviews
It's doing the job but it was a pain to set up . I bought this so that I could run my old Laserjet 5p from my new PC. It's working fine now, but it was a pain to set up. I couldn't find a driver that would work with Windows 7 - either on the disk that came with the card or on the manufacturer's website. Also, the card wouldn't fit in the computer which has a small case rather than the standard size. (I have since found that other cards are shipped with both bracket types.) I had to get assistance from an I.T. guy to find a driver that would work (I don't know what he did - but it took quite a bit of searching) and then we had to take a drill, file and drimmel to another bracket to make an opening in it large enough to accommodate the parallel port. All's well that ends well, but I would search further next time to find the right card rather than settling for this one.
Cables Unlimited 1 -Port Parallel PCI Express Card (IOC1700) Opinions
Low profile? . Low profile internally only --somehow I expected a half height card that would fit in a Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower --instead I got a card that is, yes low profile internally, but fits in a standard adapter card slot externally. So I put it it a Shuttle.

No drivers included, had to download from internet, but then seems to work perfectly. Now I have to find an adapter that fits into my Slim Tower.....
Back to Old School . If you have a need for a parallel port on a newer PC for an older device (printer, etc.), this is a stable and reliable way to accomplish that objective. A few anxious moments during set-up, but it ended well. The sequence of connecting and starting components apparently matters (see the manufacturer's web site).
Fast service - card works great! Drivers a pain... . Received this card within a week of ordering it (shipping via standard mail). Worked great - only drawback was that the drivers were on a mini-cd which mosk desktops can't use because the drives don't have hubs. Had to use a laptop to transfer drivers -- and then Vista drivers were not included -- had to search the internet for the right drivers which the mfg could have avoided by including in box.

Cons Review
Did not work with Dell XPS 420 and Vista 32 Home Premium . http://www.moschip.com/html/download_drivers.html

Cables Unlimited was very helpful finding the above driver page for the MCS9805 chip set, but the card would not work with the Dell XPS 420 running Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

Windows would freeze and not accept the new driver.

Convenient & Easy-to-Use High Speed Wireless Routing: This high-speed wireless router allows Internet ready devices a convenient way to connect to and share a wired Broadband connection. This is especially convenient for smartphones, tablet PC’s, and e-reader users since most of these products lack a traditional RJ-45 Ethernet port needed to plug in a network cable. Utilizing patent pending Intelli+IP technology, this device easily creates a reliable and secure wireless network from a wired Broadband connection. Once established, users can connect multiple devices to a personal Wi-Fi Hotspot, which is useful for tradeshows, hotel rooms, or anywhere multiple users need to share an Internet connection. Wireless ISP Mode: Using this mode will allow the ZuniConnect Travel to use an existing wireless network signal as the WAN (Internet) connection instead of relying on a wired one. This mode is great for providing access to users in locations where no wired Broadband connection is available, but a wireless one is. Smart USB Charging Station with QuickCharge Technology: Our patent pending process, incorporating smart power charging technology, permits the simultaneous charging of multiple devices such as a smart phone, tablet computer, or e-reader from one convenient location. Travelers won’t have to use the plug in the bathroom to charge their personal electronics, nor do they have to carry all the heavy/bulky wall charger transformers with them. The QuickCharge port provides additional power and will provide faster charging.

This review is from : ZuniConnect Travel IV (ZTRP150)
Excellent router for travelers . I purchased direct from the manufacturer as it was out of stock at Amazon.

Some may ask why there is a need for a router when traveling. I do a lot of international travel and carry a laptop, iPad, Kindle and Windows Mobile 7 phone. All need internet access. A personal router gives you this.

Some hotels may have wireless but they will charge you for each connected device. Ouch. A personal router avoids this.
The router can be used with a wired or wireless connection.

This router features two RJ-45 ports. So you can have the hotel internet into the router and can then connect your laptop with the other port. This allows you to have your laptop with a wired connection and all your other gear wireless.
The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Make sure you change the routers password and set up wireless passwords (easy to do from the included control panel).

The unit also includes (2) USB charging ports and it evens charges my iPad!

Also in the package is a 7 foot RJ-45 cable.

On my unit, the lettering for the USB charge ports (Normal / Turbo) is hard to read. The labeling on the units side are less visible then the units top. The top labels are bright white and very legible.

My only complaint is the power adapter (2.5 x 1.75 x 1 inches). I wish it were a little smaller and had foldable prongs. You can see a picture of it in the Amazon photos where they show the carry case. I contacted support and they responded the right away with a great explanation about the power needs for both the router and the (2) USB charging ports. They are looking into a smaller lighter adapter.

PCMAG.com has a great review of the router at [...]

If you travel and carry gadgets that use the internet, this is a must have device. I have tried other routers and this is without question the best!
ZuniConnect Travel IV (ZTRP150) Reviews
ZuniConnect Travel $ router . I own an I Pad and an I Phone and find that when I travel I frequently find that Hotels,Condos, etc advertise that they have high speed internet. Upon arrival they have the physical connections to the internet, but no WiFi which I need to connect for mail and the internet. They also sometimes
charge for each device connected. When in Europe you are charged by the byte so it is very expensive to use a phone connection.

I did a fair amount of research and decided to try the ZuniConnect 4 as it had many advantages and came in a small and light carry case Read the write up on Amazon.

Let me state clearly that I am not a technical computer type. I like what they do but don't care why or how.

Upon receiving the product I found myself a bit unsure and confused upon trying to set the ZuniConnect up. I called Zuni Tech Service who were most helpful and they walked me through the set up. Now all I have to do is plug the ZuniConnect into the Hotel/Condo connection,
plug it into the electric and I am good to go.

The product came with everything you need and works great. So excellent product and service. What more do you need?
ZuniConnect Travel IV (ZTRP150) Opinions
Great device...and even better Customer Support . Unit works great. Originally purchase for some traveling where I knew in advance no wi-fi existed, only wired connection in the room. Unit worked flawlessly with iPad, laptop, and Android phone. So now my traveling is over..now what should I do with it.

Decided I wanted to do Netflix at home, but didn't feel like spending a lot on something to connect with t.v. Originally thought about getting a Logitech Revue on sale for $99. Then I saw some Blue-Ray 3D players on clearance for $50. So...picked one up, used the ZuniConnect to receive to the player. Works PERFECT! I feel I got the best of everything I needed...and found another use for my Zuni.

Now...about the Customer Service. I had initial problems connecting Blu-Ray via Zuni to the internet. Called Zuni support, and the service rep said she would have to have someone call me back with my particular issue. After 20 minutes waiting, I had to run out. Knowing they closed at 5:00 PST, I called at 4:30 to tell them I was on my way home and would someone be there. I told Brian, the tech support person who answered, briefly my situation, and he said..."Is this Steven?..." I was floored that he knew who I was. He said he would be at the office after hours, and just call him on his cell phone when I got home. I've NEVER heard of a tech rep giving out his cell phone. Long story short...he spent over an hour with me trying to sort it all out. We determined the problem was with my home primary router (not the Zuni), but instead of washing his hands of the situation like most would do...he continued to patiently work through the problems and got me all fixed up. I can't say enough about that kind of Service. I asked if there was someone I could write to document his excellent service, and he said "just write us up on Amazon", so here I am!

GREAT DEVICE...AND GREAT SERVICE! THANKS BRIAN!

Fantastic little box . I plugged this beauty into the hotel broadband and within seconds my ipad saw it, signed on and I was off and running. It is exactly what I needed and it works beautifully. What more could I ask?

Excellent product for the road warrior . This product is excellent for sharing a wired or wireless connection in a hotel room or anywhere that you have to pay a per device access charge. It makes it very easy and cost effective to connect your laptop/table, smartphone and eReader to a single internet connection. There are probably many other uses for the product but this is primarily what I use it for.

I did not use the wizards when setting the product up but I have configured many wireless routers in the past and found this device is very intuitive and easy to setup; even doing it manually. One thing to note that while in WISP mode the unit is forced to use the same channel as the wireless internet connection you are connecting to. I thought this was a little strange as you would think it would be better to have the "output" WiFi connection on a different channel than the "source" connection. However, I did not find that this had any significant impact on the performance of the device.

I find that this product enables me to get a better internet connection when confronted with a weak WiFi signal (typically found in most hotel rooms). After placing the unit is WISP mode I move the unit around the hotel room to find the strongest signal (near the hotel hallway or by the window) and the leave it there. In WISP mode the only connection you need is an electrical outlet (to provide the unit with power). The onboard usb charge ports also are a nice touch that provides me the ability to charge my cell phone and eReader without carrying additional USB power adapters. I literally take this device wherever I travel and use it about 80% of the time.

The unit itself is about the size of a deck of cards and includes an ethernet cable, power adapter and a carry case that is about the size of a thin paperback book. I think the ethernet cable is only required to select the wireless network when setting up WISP mode or if you need a wireless to wired ethernet connection. It is a little bulkier (Cat5e) than I think it needs to be and I have replaced it with a thinner (Cat5) cable I owned from my last wireless travel router. This makes the carry case a little thinner and it probably a quarter-ounce lighter.

I contacted product support regarding specifications on the power plug and received an excellent response within about 12 hours of submitting my question online.

All said, this is a great product with great support.

Cons Review
Could Not Negotiate Sign On Pages . I had high hopes for this but was disappointed and returned it. First, I am not sure it works at all as I thought it was supposed to in the WISP mode - which is the useful mode for connecting to a wireless network that is not secure and broadcasting it as an internal wireless secure network. It was difficult to test, since it forces a "-WISP" suffix to the SSID, meaning that I had to re-program wireless printers and computers to recreate an entirely new wireless network rather than just copy my current SSID and replace the current router with this one. It indicates that the SSID can be a large number of characters, but I am not sure that is true, and limited it to 3 additional characters after more than 8 did not seem to work - but since I never got it to work consistently I do not know if that was really an issue. It also seems like the wireless network it sets up is forced to transmit on Channel 11 - which is also the most common channel for the initial wireless network it is receiving and there may be a lot of channel interference that caused the problems - again I am not sure. I never got it to consistently negotiate the "sign on page" that the unsecured networks redirect you to in order to access the internet when you open your browser so it never would consistently get to the internet. Even when I signed in directly to the insecure network first and made the sign on page a favorite, and went back using the travel router, it did not work in wireless to wireless mode. There also seemed to be difficulties in having the router assign the IP addresses, and the network access would hang and not complete the process. The Windows diagnostic which shut off the wireless card and turned it on again to force a new IP address would also hang again and not fix the problem. I think I got a second computer on the network wirelessly once - but I am not sure and it might have pulled up a cached page, too. I was unable to print from one computer to a shared printer as a wired USB connection to another computer even when I though I might have had the network set up.

I am not sure, but it may work better in wireless to wired mode or wired to wireless mode - but it was described as wireless to wireless.... I never tried the charging feature at all.

Instead of struggling to reach your computer's ports on the back, wouldn't it be nice to connect your speakers or microphone to the front? This simple adapter adds a microphone-in and an audio-out port to your computer through a USB port. It's a great way to connect peripherals whose cords aren't long enough to reach around the back of your PC. Eliminates the need for a traditional sound card.

Good backup . I ordered this because the headphone jack on my computer was broken, so I could not listen to stuff from my computer privately, or without bothering anyone. This little thing was a good fix. It was shipped fast, it was cheep, and it works. The only downside to it is that for some reason or other, it amplifies the sound of my computer. I just keep my volume between 1 and 10. For the price, this definately works.

Great USB Adapter . I bought this for one reason: Turn my PC headset into a USB headset. I used this to separate my voice chat from my speakers. It works perfect. Now I can voice chat without having peoples voices coming through my sound system and game audio coming over my headset.

Cons Review
TERRIBLE!!!! . Not great at all unlike what the other reviewer said: it caused heavy static and a bizarre echo that would last AFTER it was disconnected. I have one from another company and it works fine.

This review is from : Hawking Hi-Gain Outdoor Wireless-300N Dual Radio Smart Repeater
Good Product / Features for the Price - Be Careful Setting up. . Like others the setup which seemed easy at first really turned out not to be. I suspect that many of the negative reviews are due to complexity issues vs true lemons.

In short this is a good affordable (near industrial) solution, especially considering it is really a full featured router, with 2 High Gain Antennas, Outdoor Enclosure, Mounting Bracket and an included PoE Injector. You get a lot of bang for your $250. I will probably buy a few more for work. (This was for home use)

WARNING - THERE IS NO RESET BUTTON.

My Setup Problems, In case you can learn something from my mistakes.

I followed the Quick Start (not the CD), found and connected to the router and walked through the set up. There is a vague warning that says if you set this up in bridge mode you might not be able to access setup again, but that you can hold reset for 10 seconds. Since bridge mode was what I wanted, I figured what the heck I can always hit reset if I get into trouble.

WARNING - THERE IS NO RESET BUTTON.

I was just playing with the device testing it with one of my home routers, then I was going to make my real production changes later.

WARNING - THERE IS NO RESET BUTTON.

I later decided that Bridge Mode was not meeting my needs. So I wanted to change the SSID and put the HOW2R back into AP mode. But I could not "speak" to the HOW2R. I did not know its IP address and since it was in Bridge Mode, I could not interact with it directly. After hours of looking for a reset switch, taking it apart, pulling off cables trying to reset it, I gave up and called Tech Support (India) Sunday Night. My support person had great English speaking and comprehension skills. What I had to do was to use the installation CD to "Find" the device via wireless and then learn its IP address. Then, in order to "talk" to the device (my idea) I had to manually change my IP address on my Laptop to be on the same subnet (198.162.5.220) and connect to it again with a physical Ethernet cable. Then I was able to "talk" to the device and change all the settings.

With the Device sitting a few feet from my CiscoE2000 I had comparable signal strength out to about 100ft, but then the HOW2R kept going and going out to about 300ft+. In my final setup with the CiscoE2000 inside a sealed metal data cabinet inside a wood shed, and the HOW2R about 10 feet away on an outside wall, I was able to get close to 100% signal from the HOW2R at a distance of 250ft (as far as I needed to go).

Like others have said, bring an expert if you don't know what you are doing. While this is plug and play, by answering a simple question wrong it will kill your day. For those looking to see only a single SSID I did the following. I disabled SSID broadcast on my CiscoE2000 and used the HOW2R for broadcasting its own SSID.
WARNING - THERE IS NO RESET BUTTON.

I would probably buy a few more of these.

By the way, all my testing was with wireless-n. Your mileage may vary.
Hawking Hi-Gain Outdoor Wireless-300N Dual Radio Smart Repeater Reviews
Wireless . I have been using this for about 2 weeks now and it works great. I am boosting a signal thats about 200 feet away and its great. I have tried several repeaters and have never been able to get them to connect from this distance.
Hawking Hi-Gain Outdoor Wireless-300N Dual Radio Smart Repeater Opinions
Works well installs easily. . We bought this repeater to extend a wireless network to a site about 120 meters away. There was no easy line of sight except a small area further from the source router than from the destination area. As usual with wireless networks there were unique issues only discovered during installation. We purchased a Hawking Tech HAWNR1 Wireless N Router with the repeater so we had equipment from the same manufacturer which if possible is the best situation. (Though any router with compatible specs should work-in theory!) Technical Service at Hawking was a good experience and we installed the equipment they recommended that was said to most likely meet our needs; now I know that I would have bought inadequate equipment that needed upgrading immediately w/o their help.

Setup was simple using their quick setup function (from any computer with compatible wireless capabilities). The web-based general installation also seems comprehensive and well explained (at least if you know wireless basica; just use the quick setup if not and then learn more after it works!)

One BIG complaint: that non-existent RESET BUTTON said to exist on the repeater but doesn't! (At least they didn't have a diagram pointing it...though that itself wasted more time searching for nothing. I wonder how much combined time people have spent looking for that button!)

But all in all, installation and setup (I gave up only to return the next day and find it working; failure was on my end!) It's sturdy and of a quality that should last a long time. I always suspect "best price" info that from a product's service rep but an extensive search turned up no one with a lower price...and with excellant service too!

I'm very happy with what I recieved and the service from the people I dealt with at every point. Well, except for that MISSING BUTTON!!
Hawking HOW R2 . Easy to set up and works quite well. Was up and going with the first setup. The POE is a great feature making this item more usable. But transmission speeds are slow, as they are with any repeated signal. Would recommend the product to anyone considering extending their network range outdoors.
CHOCK FULL OF WIRELESS GOODNESS . I set this unit up for an RV park who had no wireless internet and it was easy and worked very well.

The setup took all of 20 minutes from unpacking the box to surfing the net. The wireless signals range is 300 feet easy - covered the whole RV park with one unit. The unit casing is tough plastic and waterproof, the Power over Ethernet was plug and play, and worked very well. I am not only completely satisfied with this product, I am awed by its awesomeness - it worked so well.

I was looking at units in the $600 price range when I stumbled on this one. Not being familiar with the Brand or the unit I asked around...no one else had any info either, but with Amazon's return policy I didn't worry about it. Turns out this has most of the features of the really expensive repeaters/routers for less than half the price.

This unit has full routing functions as well as repeating - it is in fact a router, just turn on DHCP.

If you need to set up an outdoor wireless network I would strongly recommend this to you, look no further and just buy it.
Just what I needed for my motel . I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about this product at first after reading some of the reviews on here. I received the first one and set it up in under 10 minutes and then noticed that it just stopped working. I returned the first one through Amazon and they shipped out the new one immediately. I set up the second one and it has been going strong since day one. I'm very impressed with the range and speed of this device. If anything the range is a bit too much as I can still gain access to the repeater a few houses away. I highly recommend setting up security on this device as it has some really good range.
It does the impossible . I figured our wi-fi project was hopeless, but 5 minutes after unboxing the HOW2R1 we had established a stable wi-fi connection 1500ft from a conventional access point. I was shocked by our success! The remote access point is an unremarkable consumer-grade device that we had pretty good line of sight to. The 2r1 site survey found the network right away and speedtest.net reports 2Mb down and 1Mb up. All this without boosting the source! I don't think the configuration was difficult; it is certainly much simpler than dd-wrt. You have to understand that you are effectively configuring two AP's in one device-- if you find that confusing, bring some geeky help.

Cons Review
Powerful signal but configuration difficult . I bought this hoping to expand wireless coverage at my church. We currently have a single Netopia 3347 DSL modem that has okay range. I was looking for a product that would provide much more range and coverage and work with the existing setup.

After opening the package and following the quick-start instructions, I was able to get the Hawking Smart Repeater to "see" the existing wifi connection. It was able to connect quite easily. This is where things got tricky ... the Hawking Smart Repeater then proceeded to create its own separate wifi connection with a different SSID, a different encryption method, and a different subnet.

The end result was that my laptop would see two different wifi SSID connections - the original connection to the Internet, and the repeated one. This configuration technically worked, but it wasn't what I wanted. What I wanted was one seamless area of strong wifi coverage.

So on the Hawking device, I tried changing the SSID and encryption of the repeated wireless connection to match the original connection. And that's where things got really ugly. The Hawking Smart Repeater still tried to act as a DHCP host on its own subnet. I tried disabling the DHCP, activating bridge mode, and putting it on the same subnet. The Hawking Smart Repeater then failed to connect to the Internet. It could still see the original wifi network, but was unable to access the Internet. I tried making a few more changes, and all of them were unsuccessful. Most frustrating however, was that after activating bridge mode, it became nearly impossible to access the web configuration page. Nearly all attempts to access it via the repeater's local ip address ended in errors, but it would sporadically let me see the page. This would get my hopes up that I could make changes, but when I clicked the 'submit' button, it would disappear again.
Even worse, because it was built for the outdoors, there was NO Reset button. The instruction manual said a hard reset could be performed by holding the reset button down for 10 seconds, but doesn't indicate where this button may be located. I think they used the same instruction manual from an indoor version of the smart repeater.
Anyway, I gave up and decided to send it back to Amazon.

Pros:
-STRONG wireless antennae. While I had the internet connection working with two separate SSIDs, my laptop could see and communicate with the box from good distances and through walls.
-Tough exterior box. It says it's built for the Outdoors and it's true. The housing seems to be pretty robust.

Cons:
-Creates a separate wifi network. Attempts to make one seamless network were unsuccessful.
-Expensive.
-NO RESET Button. VERY FRUSTRATING.

I can see this device working well if two neighbors wanted to share one internet connection. One neighbor would host the internet connection, and the second one could use this device to pick up the signal and create his own separate network.
The back of the box also showed other possible uses: sharing/rebroadcasting an internet connection at an RV park, and also for sharing/rebroadcasting internet for boats in a harbor.

For those situations, this device would be great. If you're trying to expand the coverage of your current network and have the same settings across, this is not the device to buy.
CAG . Easy enough to set up but the dowload speeds are incredibly poor. Customer service is brutal to understand and provided little or no help. I in fact was told that they had not more solutions for me and hung up. The unit is being returned.
Hawking Hi-Gain Repeater isn't worth your hassle . I would not advise anybody to even try this model. The links that you are given to help with the installation process are non-existant. If you call customer service and receive a recording (every time) you are put on hold and nobody will answer. If you leave a phone number nobody returns the call. I was unable to install this item even with the help of an experienced IT friend.
