Like the picture someone put I used this directly to a drive & worked great. . I wondered, when I ordered it, if it would fit any bare drive. It did, to my great happiness, and other than balance, turns out to be one of the best deals for a direct connection to a bare drive I have seen, let alone Seagate drives made for it. And the Firewire 800 version screams if you have a Mac with that cable option.
