Ethernet over COAX now! Sweet! . I have an old 1800s house and needed to get ethernet to my HTPC on the first floor. Wireless N/G weren't cutting it. Fios router is in my attic office. After looking at mixed reviews on Ethernet over powerline I stumbled onto some instructions on using this router as a MOCA bridge. The router arrived in great shape, and in about 15 minutes I had www over the installed COAX AND a second wireless access point.

Works with my crazy home network . I'm using two of these cards, one in a Windows 98 SE system and one in a Windows XP system, to top it off they all go through an Apple Airport Base station and link with my Apple iBook. Using WEP, too, with the hex key produced by the Base station. Working fine!

Works great with XP and Win 2K . I have used this card in both an XP machine and a Win 2K machine for years. Worked great, even with WEP encryption. I had to update to the latest software and I also discovered that some Linksys software for a similar card did not completely uninstall properly. Once I resolved these issues, the cards worked great! I think most complaints come from not resolving issues like these, and I have seen these type of issues with cards from Linksys and D-Link as well. This card has the same performance as those cards in my experience.
Great product! . I have an XP Laptop and I've had no problems.

Cons Review
Worthless scrap of metal . Stay far, far away from this one. Card refuses to authenticate on my small home network. Have tried mulitple security settings on my router to try to fix this. Each time, other wireless PCs can connect - all except the one with THIS wireless card.

Was able to connect ONCE, after endless attempts. Connection lasted a good week, then dropped. Have been unable to reconnect since. Card will frequently [though not always] make a strong connection to the network - but even when it does, it refuses to authenticate the connection, no matter what settings or protocol [WEP or WPA]. Customer support is a joke.

Other danger signs - Drivers are two years old for this product ... the 'update' on the Belkin website is dated more recently, but the drivers provided with the 'update' are the same as the old ones that ship with the CD in the box with the card [makes one wonder what was actually updated..?]

Save yourself the loss of sleep and the added frustration ... AVOID this Belkin wireless card, even if it is on sale dirt cheap. It's not worth it if it doesn't work.
Awful Awful Awful . Awful. Not fully compatible with Windows XP. Once a day I need to COMPLETELY Uninstall/Reinstall (both hardware and software). This card is horrible. Support is almost nonexistent. D-Link cards, though a little pricier, are of MUCH MUCH higher quality. Stay away from this trash.
Stay away from this piece of junk . I bought this card because I thought I would save a few dollars compared to cards from more reputable brands. But this card is a piece of junk. I am experienced with wireless networks and have installed many such cards before. The software/drivers are nests of bugs. The range of the card is pathetic. Stay away from this.

Not Mac Firendly . The Drivers for the Usb dongle that come on the CD are a joke. They are provided for the Ralink RT7030 Chipset. THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS NOT CHIPSET RT7030 Ralink! IT is RTL8188CU chipset and is from Realtek.(I got my dongle from E-Bundle)

In order to get the dongle working in windows XP:
1. Plug it in
2. insert disk for dongle into the drive
3. Select the next button the the "Found New Hardware" window
4. Select the driver that it autofinds.
5. Configure the driver using the built-in windows driver software

If this doesn't work go to the Realtek website and download the software, then install.

1. Go to the Realtek website [...]
2. Download the appropriate software according to your mac os level ex 10.4, 10.5, 10.6
3. Extract and install
4. Go to system preferences and configure the card using the manual settings for the ip address

Good Not Great . Data speeds on LTE are excellent, but this device comes with some limitations and drawbacks that keep it from a 5 star ratings. First, and foremost, the configuration is **much** more complicated that anticipated. As a techie, I wondered how any non-technical person would have set this thing up. Second, this device does not automatically switch between LTE and CDMA. You must manually specify which network you want to join. When I first started testing this thing, I thought it was faulty, since I was only getting .7Mbps. Turns out, it was set to "Global", which wouldn't utilize LTE until I specified LTE Only. This makes it really annoying when traveling on the road and leaving town, or going to a fringe area, where service might otherwise switch back and forth based on signal strength. Instead, you must choose. Apparently, this might be a limitation of early-generation LTE hardware, which requires two separate Third, it sucks down battery like an alcoholic and a bottle of whiskey. Consider purchasing a larger (and more inconvenient) battery. Fourth, the service signal tanks and the unit shuts off when switching between on-power/charging versus on-battery. Don't start any long downloads while not connected to wifi, as you might lose your connection and essentially be billed twice (due to per GB data costs. Fourth, Verizon gave me an extremely hard time about activation due to the fact it was not sold by them. It took a fair bit of explaining that this was a free and clear contract-free device. Unfortunately, their service plans also require a $35 activation fee, meaning that you can't easily shut off and on service without some significant unexpected costs. This reduces its usefulness versus pre-paid data plan service, such as that for the iPad. The very anti-consumer policies in place and unfriendly Verizon staff made me want to return it and just tell Verizon to burn. At the end of the day, they finally figured it out, and were courteous enough to me, but the whole experience left me pretty sour and took roughly 3 hours to sort out between Verizon and Amazon Wireless.All told, if you need speed and convenience of data anywhere, this is the best device out there. If you can wait for a next generation device, you're probably better off. If you can get adequate coverage from any other carrier than Verizon or AT&T, I would strongly recommend exploring your options.

I like it . I like it. You can charge it and use it at the same time just to say. I use this product on an iPad and on my desktop. I'm currently in a remote area where I can only get EvDO 3G in my room and in the parking lot I get 4G. Bad area south of Jacksonville) The speeds of 4G are excellent and 3G speeds aren't bad at all for general web browsing.*ON 3G* The online games I play lag a little in the start then improve after a few minutes of play. (Battlefield 3, World of Warcraft)
I'm sure 4G wouldn't lag at all but I can't test it because I can't play on my desktop in the parking lot...Overall it's a good product, I like it, I plan to keep it as long as I don't get close to 5GB from random usage.

Cons Review
Off-line when charging . I've got Verizon 4G LTE mobile Internet with this router yesterday and I am now testing it. This is my first device of this type and I cannot make a comparison. It works OK but its major drawback is that it is inoperable during charging while charging takes a long time, about 40 minutes or more. All this time you are without Internet. I thought I can plug this device at home and use immediately but this is not true.

Read This for Speed. If not the 2100L will suck. . I love this box, but lawyers obviously got involved. First: TURN OFF THER FIREWALL. If not your web browsing experience will be problematic. READ THE MANUAL about storage. Turn of PnP is you are not gaming. The USB Frice is 2.0. If you expect lightening read-writes, you are not going to get it any faster than any USB attached drive. It will be limited in speed either way. N-band is not the problem, the problem is the firewall. Also use proxy arp. Turn on proxy arp, save the config, restart your internet acess and restart the router.

ONE LAST IMPORTANT ITEM: CHeck the Frequency being used. N-band will overlap with home wireless phones. This screw both the phones and you connection. Change the wireless to manual, pick 20Mhz-40Mhz width and then choose the highes frequency in the scroll-down lsit. Reboot and Viola!

Why does Cisco do this? Lawyers. Do these things and your will live well.

CISCO - Please stop renaming these things . EDIT FOR ALL THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THE LINUX VARIANT IS:
Linksys happened to use the Linux embedded operating system in its early router and wireless router firmware. Because of Linux licensing, the source code had to be released to the public (I think the Free Software Foundation actually sued).

Independent opernsource developers took the original source code and added many features unavailable in the Linksys version, such as wireless bridging, sometimes called WDS (very useful for expanding a single network across large large homes, including adding wirelessly-bridged wired ports in garages or work sheds), QoS, monitoring, and so forth. These variants include "Tomato", "DD-WRT", and "OpenWRT."

A year later, Linksys moved on to a new hardware design with limited memory which squashed any hope of using the new feature rich firmwares. Consumers complained and/or bought other routers. Linksys responded by releasing an "L" variant of its router. The L stood for Linux, as in, it would run the old Linux firmware. (I would have opted for "O" for opensource).

WHY THE "L" IN THIS MODEL'S NAME IS MISLEADING:
I couldn't find any of the previous boxy Linksys routers when I visited my local computer store. They were all taken off the shelf.

I bought this model thinking it was the closest thing to my old router. The "L" designation used to mark Linksys products that supported the original Broadcom-focused opensource Linux firmware and its variants. Not any more. Or at least it's not that simple. The opensource community seems to be playing catchup moving to the E2100's Athenos chipset (if they catch up at all). I have no clue what "L" means in this model actually. A search through the Linksys user manual for "Linux" comes up empty. But the box does taught ambiguous performance advantages possibly when used with a Linux operating system.

DD-WRT shows no signs of a pending E2100L firmware release. Nor does Tomato. Check your favorite firmware compatibility list very carefully. I'm probably going to return this puppy in favor of a stale WRT54GL.

Cisco-Linksys E2100L Advanced Wireless-N Router Opinions
great product . works very well and have had zero issues with connection dropping and I am in a very busy wifi environment. This was a very good upgrade from my linksys wrt54gs.
Cisco router . Received the order promptly and was able to install it with no difficulty. The installation worked perfectly and has continued to provide excellent service.

Cons Review
NAS functionality flawed . I'm on my second router after the first one was replaced through RMA. Router seems to work fine for about a week and then I have problems writing to my attached USB drive. Reads work OK but are incredibly slow. Then the router requires a reboot and the problems go away for about a week.
Easy setup and great wireless coverage . I've given this router a 5-star rating based upon the ease of setup and very good wireless coverage. I purchased this router to replace a flaky Belkin router. I did the setup completely from my laptop over the wireless network. No glitches, no problems. I had to refresh a few of my connected wireless devices to update their network connections, but most devices adjusted without any intervention. The coverage is great throughout my house with no noticeable dead spots. Just got this up and running today, so haven't had a chance to directly connect a hard drive for access through the network...tomorrow. Will follow up with any situations that may affect my initial rating...so far no negatives...good product!

Update: Now rating this router with 2-stars. This router didn't work out, downloads were very slow and connection from other wireless components was problematic...replaced with a Buffalo router which is performing flawlessly now.
Not ready for prime time . This wireless router drops connections randomly without any reason. First, let me say that this has nothing to do with Linux. Second, I don't know what extra Linux configuration this LinkSys router provides. The documentation that comes with the CD (and on their Web site) doesn't mention anything about it. I tried to SSH into the router and was not able to. I used this router with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X, and Linux machines and all of them experienced the dropped connection problem. All. Once the connection dropped, not one of the machines I mentioned was able to re-connect. One must reboot the router in order to re-connect.

The USB shared storage doesn't work properly since it hangs randomly when one tries to access a share. The network is never busy when this happens. Be careful if you're moving files, as the network glitch might cause you to lose data.

There is only one thing I like about this wireless router. It does allow you to assign fixed IP addresses to any computer via its DHCP feature. This, however, is not enough for me to keep on using it. It was returned. LinkSys routers used to be so solid, I hope this is not the sign of things to come now that Cisco had taken over.
Didnt work for me . Their software, Cisco Connect said that it saw the router, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. The software pretty much is useless after that.
Called their support, but couldn't get it fixed after the usual multiple plug out - plug in routine, and a few manual changes.

I have an old Linksys router that worked just fine, but couldn't get this new one to work. Returned it to the store.



Piece of junk . Would have to be reset every other day. Bad signal. Upgraded to a Belkin n surf. and not looking back. Customer service for linksys has gone way down hill as well. They want to blame the ISP not their POS product. Stay away. Stay very far away.
Attention XBOX 360 owners: DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER! . So, I bought the E2100L because of its reviews and affordability. It worked well out of the box and was a breeze to set up. We have 3 computers on our network and utilize cable internet. The Computers were on-line with in 5 minutes of installing the router. HOWEVER, when I went to connect my XBOX 360 I couldn't get on Xbox LIVE. So, I spent about 5 days trying to figure out the issue. I finally got in touch with Cisco-Linksys's Tech support (after 5 calls and 3 hours of hold/diagnostic time) and the top-tier reps couldn't diagnose the issue either. We tried everything. It worked when the xbox was wired, but NOT WIRELESSLY. So, if you want to play via a "wireless" connection, this is NOT THE ROUTER for you. Even the top-tier rep told me to return it and get a new E2100 or upgrade to the E3000 (for $100 more). I did, and same issue with the new E2100.

So, long story short. If you want to use your Xbox 360 wirelessly, you should stay far away from this router. I have since returned both E2100's and purchased a NetGear rangemax wireless-n router. It worked right out of the box with ALL my electronics.

PS. Amazon's return policy is GREAT. My replacement(s)

Handy for watching programs on your own schedule . I've had one of these for years. It's been really handy for recording episodes of my favorite shows and seeking out movies that I'd be interested in. Finally decided I don't want to pay for the subscription anymore, but the DVR and service have been great.

Cons Review
Arrived Quickly but I can't use it...missing wires. . I purchased this item hoping I would be able to hook up to my cable box. I later found out I need more wires and this has been a complete waste of money. I don't really blame the seller but Im NOT happy with my purchase. I would like to return it if that is an option.
TiVo without remote . The product arrived today. However, it does not have remote control with it although the picture of the product ([...]) clearly includes the remote control. The box it came with also has the picture of the machine with remote control on it. The only other things included in the box are 2 cables and a power cord. How are we supposed to use the machine without a proper remote control? The seller is deceiving to sell it without clearly indicating that his or her Tivo machine does not include the remote control. It's just ridiculous!

Works great! . This pocket hub is small and works great. I have two USB printers hooked up to it.

Does what it says on the tin . A good deal so long as you remember it.s 1.1, so it's not going to be terribly speedy. But it's small and fits in a pocket of my bag without getting in the way until I need it. That's exactly what I want out of this type of product.
Good for non USB 2.0 products. . Good for USB 1.1 products. Will work with some USB 2.0 at much slower speeds.
Fast processing and shipping . Easy ordering process and quick. Received the order quickly and the order was complete.

Cons Review
Does what it's suppose to do . This item works well if the device you are plugging in is already powered such as a printer or fax. You will have problems if you want to plug in an unpowered item such as a memory stick or a wireless usb card. If using one of these unpowered devices, you will get a message saying "not enough power to operate".
