Does the job and well... . First off, i am a cisco guy, i work with their products on a daily basis. Although does box here is pretty good for the monies worth. You can down load the latest SDM (GUI Management Software) and have this up and running (and pretty secured) in a matter of minutes.
For first time users, my advise...Read the manual, try out the SDM and read line for line what the SDM tells/asks you. don't go clicking on next next next as if it's a microsoft application. Take your time and follow the SDM and you will get the results that you desire.

:)
Cisco CISCO871W-G-A-K9 871W 802.11G Wireless Security Router Reviews
Professional quality network device for the Home or small office . Works great, tons of features and options. However, the Cisco 871 router isn't for everyone. You should have some experience working with Cisco's IOS software. Otherwise you may find yourself feeling a little frustrated.

Cons Review
Web Interface written by Monkey . Thank any god you like that Cisco eventually purchased Linksys. Linksys knows how to create a usuable interface. Cisco makes quality hardware... Marry the two and you should get a really great kid... the 871W is a solid WAP with some truly nice features... that's impossible to configure unless you have a freaking degree in Cisco. A drunk, blind, retarded monkey could have written a better Web interface for configuring the wireless side of things. I've never used such a worthless interface in my life. Pull out your console cable and save yourself the hassle.

SONICWALL TZ 190 3G WLS U/U

This review is from : SonicWALL TZ 190 Wireless Security Appliance Firewall
SonicWall TZ-190 with wireless fallback -- ROCKS! . This TZ-190 Enhanced router is the real deal and this purchase was quite a DEAL! Don't try to figure out how to configure it yourself. Unless you have a least a year of classes in network protocols and network security. The manual is hundreds of pages long. SonicWall's Tech Support is generally very good, especially when you get a Tech who really knows their stuff. They even taught me along the way so that I could fill in gaps in my networking knowledge. We now have three-way VPN tunnels between our 3 geographical locations. We have ports configured for DMZ access to VoIP phone server working with local and remote access VoIP phones. We have load balancing between a T1 line and cable connection. And if those lines go down the (user supplied) PCMCIA broadband card can route internet traffic through the Wide Area Broadband network. We're only utilizes about 15%-20% of the things this firewall can do! A great value with excellent tech support.
SonicWALL TZ 190 Wireless Security Appliance Firewall Reviews
Good Product . Previous 1-star review raises some valid points, but it looks like he just applied the same review to every Sonicwall product Amazon sells and may not have specially used this one. I personally found this unit to be more than acceptable for my situation.

We have a Sonicwall 3060 at HQ. We wanted to create three site-to-site VPNs are our remote branches. Ultimately, the units work very well for this purpose.

VPN - This was the most difficult aspect. I opted not to use the VPN wizard to create the tunnels, so I banged my head for days. The documentation on this issue is lacking... but to their credit they do make KB articles available on their website to address problems. Ultimately, the problem was that I could get the link working but was unable to pass traffic between the sites. But then I deleted my manually created links and opted for the wizard. The wizard ended up silently creating the appropriate firewall rules to pass traffic. Now a really really good network engineer just "knows" to add those rules, but anyone less than that will get stuck because it's not mentioned anywhere to check this.

WAN - This is the absolute strength of the unit. On paper this is a "dual WAN" router, but counting the WWAN slot the TZ190 is (in effect) a triple-WAN. This is a beautiful thing for me because my remote sites have terrible connectivity options. Triple-WAN allows me to overcome this by throwing three semi-reliable WAN links into the unit (WISP, Satellite, & 3G). At one site I ran into a problem because I wanted the WWAN to be the primary and the WAN port to be the backup... but there is no option for this (WWAN only, WAN only, or WAN w/ WWAN failover.) I had to set WWAN-only then create individual Firewall, NAT, and Routing rules for the traffic wanted to route over the WAN port. Cumbersome, Yes... but it works! It's just a little disappointing the developers didn't consider someone might want to do this and make it easier to accomplish.

DDNS - Previous reviewer mentioned the lack of ability to route particular hostnames over specific WAN interfaces. This is true. A possible workaround could be to use one provider (DynDNS) for one host and a different provider for another host. Then create a routing rule forcing DynDNS traffic out one WAN port and the other provider out the other port?

DNS - I also would have like to see a more advanced DNS console. My VPN arrangement only routes LAN traffic across the VPN... internet traffic goes directly out the WAN. This poses a problem because I would like my clients to be able to access my HQ DNS servers but I don't want to point them there because if the VPN goes down they lose their ability to resolve internet host names. A conditional forwarding feature would have been nice, but I'll workaround it by either putting a standalone DNS server at each site or just using primary/secondary DNS server settings.

DHCP - Server is a bit limited, but it's also the most elaborate DHCP server I've ever seen in a device like this. I was able to easily and intuitively make static reservations, create ranges for dynamic addresses, and otherwise accomplish everything I needed to do.

WWAN - The 3G aspect of this unit is very well designed. I am ESPECIALLY fond of the section that keeps track of how much WWAN data you have passed over time... by the day, week, month, year, and billing cycle. This is helpful to know because most providers limit you to 5G per billing cycle. (You can program your billing cycle into the unit.) The unit can even be configured to disable the WWAN interface after you reach your monthly limit. Also, certain providers reset your connection every 12 hours. Many 3G units I've used don't handle the reconnection right. The TZ190 does and auto-reconnects well (so far, at least.)

Configurability - I'm very fond of the granular nature of the Sonicwall. It is very tedious to get everything initially setup. You have to create your address objects, services, and firewall & NAT rules. But once you have it all in there, managing the unit's NAT and Firewall rules is a treat. I have really come to appreciate the beauty of these type arrangements.

Support - Never had to call support, but I wouldn't be surprised if the long wait times and India issues are true.

Overall this unit is an awesome product for what it does. There isn't anything else like it (Enterprise 3G product) in the market at the moment. For my purposes, it's nearly perfect.

Cons Review
Weak features horrible customer service avoid Sonicwall . In a short amount of time working with Sonicwalls, I discovered quite a few issues. I do not recommend Sonicwall as a result. Perhaps the CONS below won't affect you, but at least be aware of them.

PROS:
Small form factor for UTM

CONS:
Horrible customer service (outsourced to India, unless you are certified)
Long wait for customer service
Dynamic DNS client bug that has yet to be resolved (see below)
No DNS proxy intelligence for Split-Brain/Split horizon setup
Very weak DHCP server options, only basics
Poor documentation

Customer Service: First off, understand that level 1 is outsourced to India. I tried opening an incident via their web interface, and after several days without progress, I decided to call. The customer service number I dialed put me on hold right after selecting Tech Support. At some point (30 minutes later) an individual answered, and collected my details, and put me back on hold. About an hour later, the system forced me to leave a message and hung-up. I tried this several times, until I finally did get through to tech support. Now the first person that answers the phone and collects details (to help route the call), fails (or they lack the mechanism) to notify the final tech-support person, so you must repeat the details of your case (I mean seriously, is it terribly difficult to relay such details?). The VOICE quality(of the call) is terrible, I imagine they are using VOIP to backhaul calls to India, and using high compression, bandwidth saving techniques which result in low quality (I specialize in VOIP, and I know what they do to save money). This makes life rather difficult when already dealing with heavily accented/overly polite tech support in India.

The Dynamic DNS bug is quite simple. If you are getting the Enhanced O/S with the hopes of using dual ISP links (active/passive) and plan to use Dynamic DNS to maintain a simple hostname to dynamic ip mapping, you are out of luck. Dynamic DNS client on the Sonicwall is BOUND to the Primary WAN interface (how stupid is that?).

They don't support Split Brain (aka Split horizon) DNS, in fact their DNS capabilities are non-existent. The other major players in this field support this, why not Sonicwall?

DHCP - Where to begin? Its featureless, as weak as you can get it. It supports (options) DNS, WINS, Gateway, and a "callmanager" option. Thats it.

Poor documentation: I was trying to tunnel all my VPN traffic (both inbound to lan, and internet). Getting this done was difficult, because of non-existent documentation on the subject. You need to add some special NAT rules to support this, but NOWHERE is this indicated.

I tried communicating my disappointments to my Sonicwall sales rep, but it seems he can't "do anything about it". Sonicwall does not listen to customers (or at least in my size of business) - simply out of touch. I strongly recommend you consider another vendor (perhaps one of the top 2), as Sonicwall is out of touch with customers, and have a weak offering overall.

HP ProCurve 2520-8-PoE Ethernet Switch J9137A#ABA 63

This review is from : HP Procurve 2520-8 Poe Switch
PoE Switch for security cams . I bought this switch to power three Vivotek (one outdoor 8361 and two indoor 8161) security cameras. One 8161 camera is on twenty feet of cable, the 8361 is on 75 feet and the other 8161 is at the end of about 150 feet. The cable is Cat 6, 23 AWG solid conductor with core separator to keep the pairs separated. For a short while, I had the 8361 at the end of 150 feet and it has the IR LEDs and internal heater. It drew somewhere around 7.4 Watts (47.4 Volts at 160mA). Without the LEDs, the 8361 pulls about 3.9 Watts (84mA) while the other two pull about 4.1 Watts (92-94mA), all at 47.4 to 47.5 Volts which makes sense since they're probably on the same Voltage rail inside the switch. In any case, I've never had to reboot the switch for any reason. The PoE power control on each port reliably switches power to a port on and off through the web browser interface control. I use one Gigabit uplink to talk directly to the gigabit my security camera server computer and the second to connect to my LAN, I can see how much power any one camera is pulling. I cannot see how much power each port is pulling on the PoE status screen which shows a list of all the ports and the PoE configuration status. I have to double-click a port to see its PoE electrical status. It updates this screen every few seconds.

Unfortunately, I haven't tested switch specific features such as VLANs tagged and untagged, QoS. I have tested the software for VLANs on the non PoE version of this switch to some extent. I was able to configure VLANs and tag them appropriately on ports that shared several VLANs but was unable to configure the connected Linux PC because its on-board NIC seemed to be unresponsive to configuring tagged VLANs even though it accepted the commands.

I'm very happy with this switch. I've had it on line non-stop since I bought it and it hasn't failed me yet and it's just warm to the touch in a 75 degree environment. The reliance and functionality of a network appliance is my concern so it gets 5 stars.

Misstakes made . Recently I sent to you a letter about The Router that I bought from Electronics [...].
I said that I had to send the first one back because it didn't work and that the one they sent to me for replacement was bad also. Well this was not so. I had made a mistake in setting it up, so I wish to apologize in writing the letter and telling you that they had a bad product. I should have my head examined I guess. Any way the router is good and more than likely, the other one was good also.

Eugene Harless
Refurb WRT54GS Wrls G Sb Router No Rtns Reviews
One of the best deals around... if you have technical skills . As others have said, this comes in a box with no instructions for getting started. It comes with a CD, but to be honest, I never took it out of its sleeve. If the idea of opening a command line box to get something done makes you break out in a sweat, DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. There are lots of other routers out there that will come with friendly instructions and easy setup. Go buy one of those, and it will make you much happier.

If you're still reading, here's the deal: the best way to use this is to load third-party firmware on board. This requires a little bit of work and a modest amount of risk, but really isn't that hard if you're willing to follow a set of instructions for flashing a BIOS.

My background: I've installed graphics cards and things like that before, and I'm comfortable with a command line. I can set up a home network, but don't have a clue how to do "real" networking with Cisco routers and things like that. I found the process of setting this up relatively straightforward.

I had heard of DD-WRT and some of the other Linux versions that run on these routers, but never tried them. I decided to try out DD-WRT, so my first step was just to search online -- "DD-WRT WRT54GS" worked just fine. The DD-WRT website has fairly straightforward instructions, tailored to individual revisions of the 54GS -- mine was version 7.2, which is what most or all of these refurb models are, I think. They should come with at least 16MB of RAM and 2MB of flash -- which is enough to run DD-WRT okay -- but mine came with 16MB of flash, which gives you extra space you can use various ways. Also, some apparently come with 128MB of RAM.

The installation basically involved connecting a web browser to the router, then uploading new firmware that's designed to overwrite the onboard "VxWorks" software and allow you to transfer a new OS image via the command line using TFTP. After that was done, it was easy to access the DD-WRT configuration website, which was friendly, but allowed for detailed control over settings. DISCLAIMER: any time you flash new operating software on a device, there's a risk of bricking it. If you aren't comfortable with this risk, don't buy this router.

With this or another Linux distribution, you potentially have a whole bunch of options that a basic router won't give you. You can set up anything from a DNS server (to resolve domain names faster), to an SSH or telnet server, to a VPN, to load balancing. You can set up fine-grained control over your firewall. You can try overclocking the processor for faster operation. It has dual antennas, and typically gives you great connects.

At the moment, mine is pinch hitting to connect a desktop PC in my kitchen to my wifi, so I didn't have to run ethernet cable. Setup for this purpose was simple and fairly well documented on the DD-WRT website.

Overall, this is a great price for a solid piece of hardware. If you want to have more control over your router than a typical low-end consumer model would allow, and you're not afraid of a DIY-style setup procedure, this may be the router for you.
Refurb WRT54GS Wrls G Sb Router No Rtns Opinions
Superb! . I have several routers like U.S robotics,zixel,netgear&,,,,,,

This is a head of all of them.specially if you have a big house, this is for you,you can connect external antenna to this router too!
It works but! . I had to chat with a local networking tech to find out that all the setup steps are not included on the disk with the refurb router and the website wasn't much help either but the tech walked me thru the proper setup and the router works fine now.
Nice Wi-Fi box. . I previously bought an Linksys cable modem and it's been running 6 years w/o any problems. I opted to purchase another Linksys product for their reliability. The set up was easy. The only "bad" thing about the set up was I use Firefox (Mozilla) as my browser. Firefox won't display the set up pages, I had to switch to Internet Explorer. The firmware needed updating. After searching for a very long time on Google, I located the driver update and installed it, as searching through Cisco's "upgrades" sucks. The unit works fine and reception is great. Download and upload speeds are about average.
Refurbed Linksys WRT54GS Router . Spectacular deal for a great router. Performs exactly like the original new unit purchased for a different location.

Cons Review
Waste of money! . OK, I have had about 15 of these routers, both refurbished and new. They are easy to set up, but they do not last long; however, the new units are no better than the refurbished ones. I use these routers for a small business with about 6 computers attached to it. They last no longer than about 6 months. I can't afford any down time so I keep 2 on the shelf because I know that it will fail, it's just a matter of time. Having said that, I find these routers very easy to set up and use and I have not found another router that lasts longer. I have had several routers from several manufacturers and they all last us about 6 months or so. I keep buying these because of the ease of setting them up, low cost and availability.
Item is ok . This wireless router came without any instructions. The set-up CD was a joke. It took two weeks and several calls to tech support before I was able to use the router. Seconds after it was purchased I emailed the company to cancel it and was then advised of several fees. I will never order from them again. Poor customer service.

It helps protect your business continuity by seamlessly connecting your business to the Internet through multiple independent links, and intelligently managing the links to provide automatic failover and enhanced performance.

This review is from : Microcom Peplink Balance 20 4-Port Dual WAN Router
Nice Router . We needed high availability in our home due to us working from home. We had DSL and although it's pretty stable, from time to time the TELCO (a large one in the South) would have outages. When experiencing one of these outages from the TELCO that my local DSL ISP couldn't resolve, the TELCO would take its sweet time getting to the issue; after denying it was them at all. So I added Comcast xFinity cable to go along with my DSL. I am no fan at all of Comcast, but I figure they both can't be down at the same time. Well, at least the odds are low for that scenario.

Having the 2 ISP inputs alleviated the worry of what to do if the DSL was to go down. The problem domain then shifted to my local network. I now had 2 wireless networks set up. The issue is if the DSL goes down, all machines in the house have to then switch to the network with the cable as its WAN. There had to be a better way.

Enter the Pepling 20. Within 20 minutes of receiving this unit, I had the cable on WAN 1 and the DSL on WAN 2 with my wireless router plugged into a LAN port on the Peplink. I set the cable as the priority WAN with the DSL as the failover. It works flawlessly. I disconnected WAN 1 and the router switched to WAN 2, connected via PPPOE, and user never knew the anything happened. I set it up so that I get an email and a text message that the WAN 1 connection went down and that WAN 2 was now connected. High availability at a SOHO cost.

I highly recommend!

The 1st of its kind, Ingenious design ever – Brilliantly simple and secure for all users (technical/non-technical) SmartHub 550N is a friendly patent pending Wireless-N technology delivers exceptional range and speed without CDROM, Quick Guide, knowing IP address or technologies. SmartHub 550N also has a USB port for connecting USB devices such as external hard drive, thumb drive or USB printer to the network. In this way, devices can be easily shared by users connected to the router.

This review is from : Asante 550N Wireless-N Router with 4-Port SmartHub
Nice router with username only . I like this design and with name password only router. It is 1st time I see this. I returned Valet/CISCO since it is not as easy as I expected. Plus I do not think I can keep the USB for long. If I missed place it and then I need to pay another big bulks to Valet again. This is quite impress with browser only.

I like it so far and recommend to who has no sense of IP.
Asante 550N Wireless-N Router with 4-Port SmartHub Reviews
Fantastic product . It is a fabulous product. I do not need my tech husband to help. No need IP stuff.. Just type in Smarthub and you are ready to go. No CDROM, NO USB setup and no worry to save those stuff for future.

I can manage my kid, guest as easy as manage a group of email. I can see who is online. I got Mac and PC can share a printer. 1st time in my life I do not need so messy on the networking so many stuff together. A great product.
Asante 550N Wireless-N Router with 4-Port SmartHub Opinions
It has worked great for me . I've been using this wireless router for well over a year now and it has worked fabulously. We probably reset it about once a month or less and don't have any problems with the unit. I'm not a tech guy, so I wanted something that was easy to set up and wouldn't need any maintenance or real technical know-how to operate. This has fit the bill for me and my family. We have a 1500 sq. ft. 1 1/2 story cape cod style home with solid wood walls, ceilings, and floors. The router works pretty well everywhere on the ground floor, but loses some upstairs, through several layers of wood. No complaints here.
Mac and PC share same printer . I got an Apple Talk bridge to use for my PC and Mac on HP laser jet. And Appletalk does not support by MacOS 10.6 any more so Asante(Appletalk maker) suggested me to use Asante AWRT550N WIFI router instead.

It give me a quite friendly connection after learning about the control center on Asante USB driver. It is automatically spoof the queue from either computer. As long as printer finished one task, the next queue will be on the printer.

Fortunately, I got MacOS10.6 and Win7 so that I do not need to re-install all printer driver. Just plug USB to printer and connect to AWRT-550N and works well.

Cons Review
not very fast does not support usb for more than 1 PC . The price was ok for a router with USB support, so I decided to purchase one, but soon I found out that it does not support USB access from more than 1 computer at the time and the software needed to be installed on the host computer can not be found, not even on the download page on[...]
The signal is not that good either, right next to the router was giving me 90-92% and sometimes it was providing a slower connection. It did not need to be rebooted very often, which is one of the few good things about this router.
The most irritating thing about this is the logon feature that needs to be done every 3 days, in order to be connected to internet. There is an option to remove that, but then you can not use the USB feature.

Overall not a very user friendly device, performance not that great either, if I had the original package, I would return it back.

Great product but no updates without maint contract . This router is more robust and flexible than most out there for the price. It has features such as dual-WAN (properly executed, unlike most consumer dual WAN products out there), it has excellent firewall features, and it includes Cisco SDM, their configuration tool that helps avoids misconfiguration leading to security holes and functionality problems.

HOWEVER - Cisco is IMPOSSIBLE to deal with. They require a maintenance contract to be purchased with a Cisco reseller simply to download a software update. It infuriates me that I would have to pay money to someone for doing nothing but displaying a Cisco logo. I am perfectly able to apply updates on my own without having to pay - and Cisco should catch up with the times. This practice of requiring maint contracts for any downloaded updates is a major negative and steers me to look for other products.
Cisco CISCO1841 1841 Integrated Services Router Reviews
Cisco Support Requires Service Contract! Included? . Also having trouble getting support from Cisco. According to their pre-sales folks, the support contract needed to get the VPN client software should be included in the price. Unfortunately Amazon customer support has no idea what I'm talking about and Cisco support requires the aforementioned contract! I'll try to remember to post an update when I get to the bottom of this.

2 x USB 2.0 - 1 x Expansion Slot - IEEE 802.11b/g - Wireless Router

This review is from : D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router for UMTS/HSDPA Networks
Makes your wireless card a full modem . I use this router with a pcmciaa Sierra aircard on the Cingular/ATT network. I'm very pleased it extended the capabilities of the card from simply allowing access from my lap top to using it as my overall internet connection at home. Speed is sufficient to play Final Fantasy on the Xbox and even hook up the Vonage router to make phone calls. It's certainly not as fast as my old wired dsl connection but that is not the router's fault just the fact of the cingular/att wireless network. For me this router saves me 50 bucks a month by allowing me to drop my wired connection. I grab my aircard when I leave for work in the morning and then after work and weekends just leave it in the DLink router for around the house always on internet connection. Great router I bet it would be a big seller if more people knew about it.
D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router for UMTS/HSDPA Networks Reviews
Check you Service provider . The router worked as promoted, but I purchased it to host a internet camera at a remote site. At&t does not allow hosting on their broadband cards, so the service provider was the problem. Its in their contract. Check your service provider details for their cards before purchasing. Amazon was GREAT, they allowed me to return the product. I will use Amazon for all my purchased for now on.

Cons Review
d-link router not compatible with their own d-link 3g card. need to buy other brand. . I originally bought this to use with M1 service; M1 provided me with a huawei 3g modem. This worked fine, but when I changed plans I had to return the modem and planned to buy my own.

I brought the router to a store to look for a compatible 3g modem. The guy at the store told me I need a firmware update just to use it with d-link's own 3g card. The firmware page says the update will make it support their d-link DWM-156 3g modem [...], which I was hoping to buy. It didn't work. The guy at the store called d-link. A few hours later I still don't have a working 3g modem, and I'm not sure what I can buy around here that will work (the huawei ones are mostly only rented out by telco's).

If d-link can't even make their own 3g-routers work with their own 3g-modems, that seems like a problem.

Looking around online, I see others with the same issue:
[...]
D-LINK Sucks ! . I bought this router to use with a 3G modem. I did a firmware upgrade and it worked for 15 minutes and after that it keeps rebooting after each 30 seconds !!! No way to buy D-Link again !

Verizon Westell 7501 Wireless-G Broadband Router

The Verizon Router delivers high performance Wireless-G broadband routing. Connect to your modem and Netbook, Network Extender, or Verizon Hub. Broadband router with advanced VoWLAN performance and features for dual-mode handsets, delivers fixed-mobile convergence for IMS and UMA networks using dual-mode handsets, along with wired and wireless networking throughout the home.

This review is from : Verizon Westell 7501 Wireless-G Broadband Router
It's not just for Verizon! . As advertised, it works with any broadband source. I dropped it into a Comcast-fed home network when the wall-wart died for my router. No setup necessary, and the wireless signal strength is better than the old router.
Verizon Westell 7501 Wireless-G Broadband Router Reviews
Works great a true bargain . I bought this item from Verizon on a promotion, just to have as a backup. Three weeks ago, my 8 year old router died and I plugged in the 7501. It puts out a great 802.11g signal (even with no external antenna) and solved reception problems around the house I'd struggled with for years. Works better in my place than the inexpensive, big-name manufacturer's router Comcast sells. Lots of geeky features for the tech-savvy. Easy to set up and use if you're mildly conversant with with WiFi. Enjoy!
Verizon Westell 7501 Wireless-G Broadband Router Opinions
Very solid router with good value but very technical setup . This router can be had for 10 bucks from verizon. What I noticed about this router is that it just is very solid meaning it doesn't drop connections so you don't need to reset or unplug your router every month or so with other routers. This in my opinion makes this a very good router even if it doesn't have the features of more expensive routers.

If your old router is crapping out, then don't hesitate to get this router if you want to save money and have the discipline to read the manual and fiddle a little bit . Took me about 30 minutes to fiddle with settings (manual is 130 pages lol) and I was able to get on my ATT dsl line. Just remember turn on wireless security to WPA 2, set wireless broadcast to G only (nobody uses B anymore) and also to turn on the router firewall (to "low" if you need to foward a port, medium if you don't know what I am talking about).

There is a also a usb port or you can connect your wireless printer to it with a little hack if you want (just google it). Very very pleasantly surprised.
Great router . It really worth the price. You only need to open the box and connect it to your modem. No need to install.
Westell 7501with 400mw power. A solid 5 bars on my laptop and netbook. . Pros:

- can be used as a wireless router and/or an AP
- can be piggybacked onto existing router
- no antennas
- 400mw power [a solid 5 bars on all my wireless devices]
- a tons of settings. Good for network techs

Cons:

- not really a router for newbies
- a tons of settings. Good for network techs, not so friendly for newbies.
- not a plug 'n play, 5 minute setup
- no adequate quick start guide

Great router for experienced techs.

You really need to use the PDF manual on the included CD to work through the setup options.

The manual is like 100+ pages.

Router Installation Was "Plug-and-Play" for Me! . I just purchased this one from Amazon when my 3 1/2 year-old d-link router recently died. After reading one review, I expected the installation to be a bit-more involved, but it was truly a "snap" - no software or lengthy installation process. The router comes with a simple, easy-to-understand 15-page "Let's Get Started" booklet which explains and illustrates the entire installation process. (There's a CD with the full User's Guide also included, but I didn't need it to install and get up and running). The installation took all of 2 minutes: 1. white cable connects dsl modem to the WAN connection on the back of the router; 2. yellow cable from ethernet jack on back of PC to ethernet jack ("E1") on the back of the router; 3. small end of power cord into jack on back of router and plug it into ups power supply; and 4. press the power switch on the back of the router. THAT WAS IT!!! (It almost took longer for me to type these instructions than it did to actually perform the steps.) Turn PC on; boot up; check email; and now I'm typing this review. Wireless networking the laptop did require referring to the User's Manual CD, but the steps are clear and simple, and I had no problems there. It couldn't have been easier, and I couldn't be more pleased. I bought it for less than half of its current listing, so you may want to wait for a "sale," but I think it's a good choice even at the price now being offered. Highly recommended!
Super Easy! . After struggling with a Netgear wireless router for 4 years, (constantly rebooting, losing connections), I decided to try Verizon's Westell Wireless Router. In the period of half hour, I had the computer, a printer and my laptop loaded on and in service. I am JOYOUS about this product! Easy and efficient!
Great router! . I actually didn't buy this item from Amazon, but from a very good deal on Verizon's website a few weeks ago! I just set this up in my USC apartment and I am VERY PLEASED with the results. Wireless strength is excellent and the hard line works as expected. Set up was a breeze.

Highly recommended!
Works great USB Printing disk sharing and media server can be added... . 1. It will work with virtually any internet service provider - definitely not locked to Verizon!

2. Has been hacked to unlock USB printing, Basic USB disk sharing, media server, and a few more goodies. See [...] for details. No, it won't run Tomato or DD-WRT, but for $10 and whatever spare USB drive you have sitting around, it it pretty good. Very stable.

3. Has decent range, I get range on it equal to that of my $95 ASUS RT-N16 router (granted the verizon 7501 is only G, not N) Not bad for the money.
Nice router . This router works perfectly at my home. I use it to replace my previous DLink router which had low signal issue for a long time.
This one is easy to set up and I am having a much better signal around every corner of my house.

Feature Verizon Westell 7501 Wireless-G Broadband Router

This review is from : Linksys - WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router - 4 x 10/100/1000Base-TX LAN, 1 x 10/100/1000Base-TX WAN - IEEE 802.11n (draft)
This thing is a beast . Hi Guys.

First off I do want to point out that Linksys/Cisco has updated the firmware on this badboy to address the overheating issues. They have also moved forward to supply a second revision to this router (V2) which deals better with these issues and also greatly extends range and throughput of signals.

Currently I am using this as a conduit for all my network activity. I work heavily with very large H264 encoded files so I need a very fat internal pipe to get this data back and fourth. With this thing I am getting 12MB/s throughput to a mac located on the other side of 18" thick firewalling.

I have never seen a stronger signal in my life when it comes to transmission rates. Internal rates are amazing as are the hard wire gigabit connections.

The only con I would say would be that this USB connection can not be used as a printer connection ( that I know of ) and the filesystem support for USB NETDISK support only allows for FAT32 partition. This FAT32 is really the standard for network mounts - I would just be happier seeing something like EXT3 support here or even MACOS support as I have all sorts of uses I will be throwing at this thing.

The only comperable router on the market is sold by mac for roughly the same price so make your comparisons before buying.

Cons Review
It doesnt looks like a Linksys product . I bought this router on last november, the startup was ok, i was replacing my old and great linksys wrt54gs, some minutes after using it, i lost all connections, when i check the router, i was very hot, and all the setup returns to factory default, i repeat al the setup process, but after some minutes it happens again.

On january Linksys published a firmware update, i applyed this firmware, the router starts working better, after 10 days all connections came out LAN and Wireless, the temperature of the router was ok, but all setup returns to factiry default. I contacted Linksys support and check that there is a lot of people with the same problem, Linksys support indicates that there is no estimation for a new firmware release, they give a ticket numbre to return and exchange my router, this would be ok if i am in the US and have access to return it to Amazon, since i am out the US i am feeling really bad bacause of a bad product delivered to the market.

So i will wait for the next firmware update, or DD_WRT that is working on an alternate firmware version.
Only lasted 11 months . I've been using this wireless router for about eleven months, but for the past two months it's been very unreliable.

When it runs, it does pretty well. Its range is much better than the wireless-G LinkSys router it replaced. With this router sitting on top of my desktop PC in a room on the second floor of our house, the signal picked up in the basement two floors away is usually 70%-80% strength. I don't have anything with a 5GHz adapter, so I can only comment on my experiences with the 2.4GHz freq radio.

This WRT610N would run fine for weeks at a time, and then for no reason, it would drop signal, (confirmed by none of the other three PCs in the house could detect its signal). Most times it would recover when I pulled out its power cord and let it reset itself, but sometimes it would not recover wireless capability for hours or days once it went dead. (The PC this router is sitting on is hard-wired to it, so I always had at least one PC using its Gigabit connectivity to my cable modem to the outside world). I experimented with other brand firmware, and also experimented with cooling it with a fan to see if this was heat-related, but I was never able to conclude what was causing the random signal drops. LinkSys tech support was not helpful, and the LinkSys web site forums only had postings from others with the same problem with this unit.

I was talking with my neighbor (who lives a few houses away) last week, and asked him about this router. He writes reviews professionally for data communications publications, (aka "he's a lot brighter than I am with wireless routers"). He told me he's been having identical problems with his personal WRT610N also, and he'd finally disposed of it and replaced it with a D-Link model (that I can't remember).

I'm not sure with which brand/model I'll replace this now-dead unit, but I don't think it'll be with another LinkSys-Cisco consumer wireless router.

Of course, as always, your mileage may vary.

ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router, world's smallest multi-role device, can be used as router, access point, repeater, media adapter, hotspot account sharing and 3G sharing,This is a full wireless router designed for those on the move, especially businessmen, commuters, students and mobile professionals.

This review is from : ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router
Good Travel Router . You have to initially set it up with an ethernet cable, connecting to 192.168.1.1. You should not need to install any of the included software, but you will want to disable your wireless interface. If the software is easier for you, use it. Once in, you just setup the SSID, security and wireless password. It reboots, you unplug the ethernet and from that point onward you can do everything else over a Wifi connection. Those wireless settings you entered will persist through mode changes and through power loss. This means you can take this device with you and use it without a laptop or an ethernet connection. You can connect to it with a mobile phone or tablet over Wifi, change modes, set advanced settings, and even select a site and connect to it. The iPhone and iPad can both configure the router without problems using Safari. When coming back up after being turned off in hotspot mode, you can connect to it over wifi even if it cannot find the last site it was connected to. I read that you had to work around that problem on the WL-330GE, but you don't have to on this unit. You just connect and select another hotspot. Like the WL-330GE it can connect to sites with WPA, WPA2, etc, and unlike the GE it can connect to 802.11n only sites.

It does have to reboot with any mode change or almost any setting change. Afterwards you can connect again over Wifi. When you change to Hotspot mode you connect to it's web interface at 192.168.220.1 and in router mode at 192.168.1.1 (by default). You need to remember these two addresses and use the right one for the right mode or just try them both until you get in. I took points off of ease of use for these reasons. Granted other routers require a reboot for settings changes too.

It's range was better than expected. It reached about 50 feet, through walls, with only one bar lost. It's not as good as a full-size unit, however. It functions fine on a standard 500mA usb port, with no loss in range over the the distance I tested at (compared to using a 2A port). It gets a little warm to the touch, but nothing to worry about. The usb connector is a typical micro b.

While I have tested out router and hotspot modes, I have not tested them out with paid sites and captive portal pages yet. That will be for another time.

It came with a soft black pouch, a short usb cable (with a y to get more power), an a/c power supply, an ethernet cable and a software disc.
ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router Reviews
Set up in under 5 minutes for 3 devices sharing a hotel wire. . Just picked up one of the ASUS WL-330N3G devices in Singapore for about $80 USD.

I needed to have a Ethernet/Wireless bridge to connect my Mac Book Pro/Iphone4 and new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices. In under 5 minutes I had this thing setup and all 3 devices online. I also found it very simple (again, in the first 5 minutes) to have the router mode (ie. hotel wired connection sharing) with secured WPA2 Wifi, admin stuff changed, time sync and the like.

Really happy about this device. Ohh, and it derives enough power from a single USB port on my MacBook Pro that I don't have to worry about power adapters although there is a Y cable for driving more power into the device.

Wish I would have bought one of these 6 months ago as I can save a bunch on phone/data bills while roaming!

UPDATE: Just checked the 3G connectivity by adding a 3G card into it. Flawless!
Also played around with the various persona within the device (Hotspot, Router, Bridge, Repeater) and they work as expected.
ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router Opinions
Worth the money! . I tend to travel to hotels and other places and occasionally I'd get into a place where it offers a wifi service instead of Ethernet wall connection. I prefer the latter since I am sure I'd get the best possible signal through my Apple Air Extreme router in the room. However, with free wifi only, I'd be at the mercy of where the hotel room is or how strong that signal is?

So, I got this ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router unit mainly coz it works as a repeater for another wifi network in addition to the travel size and USB charge connection.

Pros:
Works as advertised

Cons:
- In the repeater mode and if you get lots of wifi stations where you need to pick the one you want to enhance, the 'Connect' button on the web interface can not be seen unless you scroll all the way down to reach it!? I guess when they tested it, they only had afew wifi stations and didn't notice the problem or else, they could have put it on top.

- In repeater mode, the secondary wifi station name becomes the same as the primary so you wouldn't really know off the bat which one are you connecting to?
- It doesn't support hidden wifi networks well.

I tried it as a router, access point and as Ethernet modem in addition to repeater and all worked fine!
So, go spend the monies if you need it :)
Almost Perfect Cannot Connect to Hidden SSID . My SSID at home is hidden, and there's no button to connect to "another network" that is not listed on the scan result.

However, since this is a travel router, I figured that most hotels/coffee shop/airport should NOT have the SSID hidden.

You don't need to connect with ethernet cable to do the "hot-spot" mode. It is recommended (to obtain "stable experience), but not necessary.

1. Connect wirelessly to the router (SSID: ASUS) under the default settings
2. Go to 192.168.1.1 on your browser (password/login: admin/admin)
3. Select "Hot-Spot Mode", your connection will reset to 192.168.220.1
4. Type in that new address (same login/password)
5. Select your wireless network to connect to
6. Once connected, you can change any other options (SSID, admin password, wireless security, and so on)
7. Anytime you want to change mode, the setup URL will change back to the default (192.168.1.1)
AWESOME PRODUCT . this is one of the best purchases i have ever made and i have bought a few since. My entire department now carries these wherever we go(IT Support Field) and use them in a variety of ways. highly recommend to anyone who deals with computers on a daily basis. (other uses not listed, wireless print server(with network printer), wireless gaming adapter, wireless device/router/switch management.)
Good solution for sharing hotel wifi connections . After doing some research on how to share a single hotel wifi connection with different devices, I settled on this product. On my last trip I used it both for wired and wifi hotel connections, and it worked great. I like the portable size. I've used it on both Windows 7 and Windows XP.

You do have to be a bit of a techy to configure it. If you are comfortable configuring your home router though, you should be fine.

Cons Review
So sad that it does not work as intended . I used this to replace a Trendnet travel router as I could not access that model with either iPhone or iPad. Reviews stated that this router was capable of handling these clients. And it is. However...
Configuring can be a bit confusing as the device changes IP address depending on what mode it is put in. But that's not that hard to figure out if you pay attention. The really sad thing is that I can't get it to work on any WiFi network that uses a captive portal. (Meaning, those networks where you do not need an ID to sign in but are initially redirected to a website that requires you to add some information for billing purposes).
I have tried it now in Delta airport lounges and Hilton hotels, to no avail.
The UI will show me an error message telling me that I may have interrupted my WAN connection (no), and that the IP assignement is wrong. Well, yes, the WAN IP will always read 0.0.0.0. I am currently looking at the UI in a hotel. The list of available WiFi networks shows me that I am connected to one with a strong signal. The main window of the UI tells me I am NOT connected. And if I try to connect anywhere, I just get an "address not found" message.
I am extremely disappointed. I need this device just exactly for this purpose that it can't handle. (And I just upgraded the firmware to the latest release because that said something about dealing with hotspot issues).
If you plan to share paid WiFi hotspot connections that use captive portals (most do), this is NOT the solution you are looking for. Too late to return it. At least it doesn't take a lot of space...
Good idea bad implementation . I have an old portable router that works well as a little access point with wired hotel wifi, but was looking for something I could use when a hotel only has paid wifi. From the description this device would do exactly that. The problem is - it doesn't work.

Connect to the device at the default 192.168.1.1 - you are given a number of choices of what you want to do (hotspot, router, access point, 3G, etc). In order to use the hotspot you have to wire it to a computer and then disable the wifi adapter on that computer. Follow the instructions by filling in a ssid and security, select the wifi you want to connect to, and it then reboots, resetting the IP to 192.168.220.1 and telling you that it cannot connect because you mistakenly changed the IP range. Of course, you did nothing but that's what it tells you and so you are left trying to figure out what internal setting you have to change in order to get that to work.

After several hours of playing, I gave up and returned it. For what it's worth, the access point feature did work, but there are many less expensive portable access points on the market - I'd choose one of them.
