Good product for what I need . This is now the 4th of these devices I have installed. I am happy with the performance and the price. It is also nice that they can be used in multiple roles as an AP, Repeater or Bridge. I have used this device as an outdoor unit for a hotel that I administer and inside in a huge furniture store for mass coverage, so far so good.
Hawking HOWABN1 Hi-Gain Outdoor Wireless-N Multifunction Access Point Reviews
Nice unit . Great box. The setup can be confusing. Use the utility on the CD to discover it, or plug your laptop straight into the ethernet cable (no switch in between) into the power/ethernet adapater, or try browsing for the SSID or URL (4 ways to hit it).

Try various channels in the wireless setup for finding the best performance: try 3, 7, 11 as 'preferred'.

You can run the ethernet/power cable 300'. I ran 100' with no issue.

The two external antennas are omni, but the internal receive (which talks with your hotspot/base) is unidirectional: face the logo on the main body towards your main wireless (the one you are trying to extend) - so you get the best reception.

Hawking HOWABN1 Hi-Gain Outdoor Wireless-N Multifunction Access Point Opinions
Great Product . Really simple to set up, also a great offering of peripherals (antennas, cabling, etc.) from Hawking Tech. Felt a little cheap with so much plastic, but its more for the weather-proofing I guess. No complaints.
Best Ever! . I have become a Hawking Fan, everything I get from them works and performs better than expected! Super easy setup and quick installation, the one wire for signal and power Brillant and easy!!

Works great! . Prompt delivery, fair price and exactly as advertised. I reside @8,000' and Internet access is via satellite exclusively (we're hostage to exhorbitant prices and limited data usage!). We needed to extend our wireless signal about 500' to our lodge and the installation of this unit made it workable! We'll see how it performs when the winter weather arrives but for now, it's working great! Installation, both hardware and software, was easy but be aware that the signal transmission is highly sensitive to even the slightest movements. It took some hunting and experimentation to optimize the signal.
So far so good . I bought this to relay my internet connection from the building my business is in to the house, about 70 yards. For that purpose, I have to say I am extremely satisfied. The end of the house closest to the access point gets great reception and the other end of the house furthest from the access still gets passable reception even through several very thick walls (not sure about the metallic content).

Installation was straightforward. I had to make a trip to a hardware store to get a wall feedthrough, and I made my own Ethernet cables both for the link to the hub and to replace the power+network cable that runs the unit. I wish there was a little project box or something to house the interface, but I improvised with something from the hardware store. The RJ-45 weather protection seems like it will be okay for a while, but the sun is eventually going to fry all of this plastic.

I pulled back a half star for the plastic and another half star for the interface. The software loads okay, but when I tried to set it up in repeater mode instead of access point mode, the function to set a password didn't seem to work. You basically had a wide-open access to the existing secure WiFi network. Maybe something I didn't understand? In any case, the instructions didn't cover it, so I went back to access point mode. Secure enough, I guess, though I wish it had WPA2 instead of just WPA.

Cons Review
Hawkins Review . The setup took me forever to figure out. Seems like it would be simple but it is not. Once I got it hooked up and working I saw about a 20 percent increase in wireless gain. Then I read you could upgrade the antenna's to increase the output but I could never find them. During my setup I called tech support and wouldn't you know it they were in India, so very hard to understand and hear so I did the best I could. Got it working and been doing fine for about 5 months without any problems. Was it a waste of money...... Yes.
NOT UPGRADEABLE!!! . I contacted Hawking Technologies to verify external antenna configuration and tech support informed me that this unit is NOT upgradeable!!! The Hawking technical support representative on the phone stated that in their lab testing they noticed that connecting external antenna's to this unit caused the unit to FAIL!! WHAT?!?! He did not even offer any other explanations, or beneficial information. Only apologized and (get this...) offered to sell me another unit that WAS "marked" as upgradeable.. EXCUSE ME!!! Why am I not surprised?

I WILL NEVER BUY HAWKING AGAIN!!! I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT NO ONE PURCHASE HAWKING PRODUCTS AGAIN!!

They could have at least sent a firmware update, public notice, recall notice. Even Netgear, D-Link, ZyXEL and many others place an Addendum into their packaging to allow for customers to be informed. Hawking just doesn't care.

I'm sure that this is a great unit as is, however it is being sold and was purchased under the pretense that it was upgradeable by installing additional antennas and this was "UN-clearly" not the case!!

Not true Wireless-N . How can it claim "High speed 300Mbps Wireless-N networking" when the ethernet port is only 10/100? In disbeleif I contacted the manufacturer to make sure the 10/100 wasn't just a typo, nope, not a typo. Such a shame, I had high hopes for this product.
