Great little adapter! . Bought at staples hoping to solve a major connection issue with an older laptop that was having problems connecting to a new network after installing Windows 7. This has a plug and play feature that allows you to bypass puting in network passwords or keys. Install was amazingly fast and easy. Best $25 I've spent in a long time.
Netgear G54/N150 Wireless USB Micro Adapter (WNA1000M) Reviews
IF YOU HAVE A G54 ROUTER BUY THIS!! . I dont know how well the $10 dollar one works but I bought this one at staples for about 26 bucks and it didnt take long to install the drivers and works perfectly. Only thing I was puzzled by is they send you a micro cd (like a gamecube disk) instead of a real CD size disk. So just make sure your optical drive has that little part in there so you can have it fit right on and not have to center it.

Otherwise perfect not a single problem.
Netgear G54/N150 Wireless USB Micro Adapter (WNA1000M) Opinions
Small but it works. . I use this with a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows 7 on it. Installing the drivers from the mini-cd was easy. Encountered no problems connecting to my Medialink wireless N router. Checking my connection speed through Windows' Network and Sharing Center showed 54 Mbps. I found that strange since I was hoping to see something faster than that. Doing some research on the internet, I found my answer. I changed my security type setting from WPA personal to WPA2 personal and the encryption type from TKIP to AES on my router and laptop. Now my connection speed is 150 Mbps. Surfing the internet doesn't seem any different, but just knowing that something improved makes me feel better. The adapter is small and unobtrusive so I don't have to worry about accidentally breaking it off. Lastly, this thing does blink with a blue light. It doesn't bother me, but I know some might find it annoying.
IT WORKS! . I bought 1 of these at Staples, plugged it in and it worked even without the cd. I love its size. Inasmuch as a wireless adapter is a permanent peripheral, it is great that it is not sticking out and flopping around. I bought another one for an older pc. It did take installation, but then worked fine. I am going to get a third one for my laptop. The built-in Realtek adapter has a major problem and needs to be reset every hour or so.
WORKS LIKE A CHARM! . Easy to install and does exactly what it says. It solved a problem that was dragged out for several months in 2 mins. Now my old computer with 3g capability alone can log onto my 4g network with no problem. Problem solved!!! Who new it was so easy..I can't believe it!!

4Port 3IN USB HUB BUNDLE PERPHUB/GROMMET

This review is from : Belkin In-Desk USB Hub 3-Inch (F5U402-03IN-KIT)
Almost perfect . Great product, however I've found that some devices, when connected to the hub won't function properly. In particular, (ATTN DJ's) the serato scratch live hardware will not pass a signal when connected through the hub.

All in all however, its a great piece of hardware, looks slick on my desk and hides a lot of ugly wires.

(Another small note, the LED was red in the unit i received.)
Belkin In-Desk USB Hub 3-Inch (F5U402-03IN-KIT) Reviews
No complaints here . Pretty much does what you'd expect it to do. I had no problems running any usb device (hard drive, card reader, phone, bluetooth headset) with Vista.
Looks real neat in the desk. The 4-port is a little large, I'd probably get the smaller version next time.
Belkin In-Desk USB Hub 3-Inch (F5U402-03IN-KIT) Opinions
Works perfectly . It is a powered USB hub so there is no problem charging/using several devices at the same time (phone, MP3 player, camera, flash drives, etc.) Rather than drilling through my desktop, I mounted the product in the wall and ran all wires to another hole and grommet beneath the desktop level. I like keeping my desktop clutter free so I built small shelves to hold the items while they are being charged/accessed. It works great for me. I have mounted two of these for both myself and my wife. This gives us 8 powered USB ports each that are easy to reach and we only use 2 of the USB ports on our PCs. My PC now has USB 3.0, so I am looking forward to Belkin refreshing this product with the new capabilities, but I hope they retain the form factor/mounting grommet so I can just run the new cables, snap in the new ports and I am all set. I have been using these for about 2 months now and have had no problems at all.
Solved my problem. . I had a gaping hole in my desk from a monitor arm that I retired, and I needed something to fill it. I also had a USB hub sitting there that kept getting dragged off the desk due to the weight of the cables. So I got this item to solve both problems. I chose it over the competition because it was a powered hub which was important for my application (charging items while my computer is off.)

The only issue I had was enlarging the hole to the size of the hub. That was solved by using a hole saw. But with no place to put the center drill bit of the hole saw, I resorted to an old trick I learned from a woodworking magazine: I first drilled a piece of plywood with the same size hole (3") and clamped that to the top of my desk, and then used the plywood template to guide the hole saw over my smaller (2") existing hole. Without the template, the saw would have wandered all over the desk.

Very simple and sleek . I added two of these hubs to my desk. Cutting the holes in the desk was much more difficult than placing and using these hubs. They are simple to set up and with the power and USB to computer cable underneath the desk/hub, it has cleaned up my desk and made it convenient to plug in certain devices far from the computer. Works great!
Works fine needs more ports . This hub installed and works fine and looks very finished on the desktop. The only problem was cutting the hole for it which was larger than I could do with a hole saw. Also, be aware that there are no output ports on the back (underside) for USB devices that don't have to be frequently connected and disconnected (printers for example). I did not reduce the overall stars for these issues because they were part of the product description. I do rate 'usability' at only four stars because of the tendency for the 'insert' to pop out of the surrounding ring occasionally when a particularly tight plug is removed.

Cons Review
Great idea bad experience. . I bought two of these and neither worked properly with my new Mac Pro (2008).

As with many, I have a ton of peripherals and some that I use on top of my desk. The in-desk hubs look good installed, and are a great idea. I hoped that they would replace the clunky hubs with wires draped over the edge.

I drilled the holes into my desk, installed the two hubs, and rewired all the peripherals to take advantage of the new hubs. I had one hooked-up to my PC, one to the Mac. It was after everything was together that I discovered things weren't working right. The only USB devices that worked, were those going through one of the new hubs--the other devices through the other two hubs I had hooked-up didn't work. I then troubleshooted until I found that the Belkin in-desk hub was the cause of the problems. I tried both new in-desk hubs, and both behaved the same. Essentially, if the hub was plugged in, it confused the entire USB system on the computer. It didn't matter if the power was plugged into the hub or not or if there was a device plugged into the hub or not... I also tried different cables between the hub and the computer, and it didn't change anything.

Furthermore, right on the package it says it says a USB 2.0 cable is included. Both that I received had just a USB 1.1 cable included. AND... in the instruction manual, it states that there's a green LED that shows when it is operational and that the light is off when it's not. Instead, the LED is red, which may lead one to believe it's "not operational" rather than simply being misprinted or wrongly built. (And no, it's not a dual-color LED).

So, the bottom line: plus 1 star for the good idea and the possibility that it may work on my PC. (It wasn't working when I first tried, I haven't had time to fully test). Negative 4 stars for the fact that it doesn't work on the mac as advertised, that it resulted in two 3" empty holes in my desk, a useless $20 3" hole saw, a fair amount of time lost in troubleshooting, misleading documentation, 1.1 cable instead of advertised 2.0 cable, and shattered dreams of a clean desktop.

This review is from : TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PoE Access Point TEW-653AP (White)
Much more than I was looking for . This AP has it all - 802.11n/a/b/g, Power over Ethernet, decent user interface, good configuration flexibility, all the options you could ever want.

I found this item when I searched Amazon for a Power over Ethernet AP. I wanted to finally install an AP in a permanent location in my house (instead of hanging off my desk) but I didn't want the hassle of having to run BOTH a power line AND an Ethernet cable to the device. Just to be clear, the PoE (Power over Ethernet) function allows you to use ONE cable (the ethernet cable) for both power for the device AND the network connection to the device. The power supplied to the device is DC low wattage (less than 20 watts)

In addition, "SHE ... who must be obeyed" had some "concerns" about the appearance of any ceiling-mounted AP and how it might clash with the decor (multiple black antennas hanging down like a large spider). Also, I wanted a device that a Network Engineer (20+ years experience) didn't think was a toy.

This device had exceeded my expectations. First (and most important - after all, SHE must be obeyed) the appearance was clean and neat - a white cylinder, a little thicker than a smoke detector - the antennas were all inside the unit, nothing dangling.

Once I configured the device at my desk upstairs (gotta start somewhere) we were off. I dragged my notebook downstairs and checked NetStumbler - the signal strength was -20dB - I carried it outside and walked 200' away from my property line and still got -45dB (ok - I was impressed). Dropped NetStumbler and fired up FireFox and it was fast.

Back to the desk and configure the basics I use (no SSID Broadcast, mac address filtering, WPA2, PSK, etc., etc.) - was straight forward, the interface was all intuitive (well, ok, I'll admit it - intuitive for a Network Engineer - I don't know how to NOT know the things I know and to see the screens as the "average" person sees them - if you have any issues, ask the IT geek in your friend circle for help and bake them a plate of cookies).

The best part was the final physical installation! Since the coverage was so good, I was able to drop my original plans to install it on the 1st floor ceiling (drill hole between floors, run power and ethernet, large mounting area for power transformer, etc.) and instead opted for the 2nd floor ceiling - very near the "utility room" (where I have my cable modem, router, firewall, phone punch-down blocks, etc.). I drilled a hole in the ceiling of the utility room (into the attic), and another in the ceiling of the 2nd floor atrium. I attached the mounting plate around the 2nd hole (light-duty plastic anchors and screws included), ran the cat5 cable between the holes, plugged the cable into the AP and push-twist (think bayonet connectors) and it was mounted!

Back at the utility room - plug the other end into the TrendNet PoE injector (I had to buy that separately), plug the injector into the power strip and move the cable (I was previously using at my desk) to the injector - and I was done.

Since then - no problems whatsoever. It's been running without any intervention for about 4 months now. We have 3 Windows XP notebooks and 1 Windows 7 notebook - we have had multiple simultaneous streaming video sessions active at the same time with no problems. The AP looks good as you walk up the stairs (I made sure to orient the mounting plate so the 3 blue LEDs would present a symmetrical appearance - very cool - you can also turn the LEDs off if you want).

I have been recommending this item to my friends and to several business that I support.

The only thing I have left to determine is longevity. A lot of the APs I have used in the past have burned out in 6-9 months - we'll see. I'll try to revisit this review after a year and let you know. I'm also going to try to set up a test for dropped packets (as I read in the other review) and report on it too.

Hope this helps.
TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PoE Access Point TEW-653AP (White) Reviews
Finally JUST an access point . Finally just an access point that has all the features you would normally see in units starting at 3x the cost in a package stylish enough that it can be placed where it is needed in the home or office. Mine is in the center hallway of the house and draws the eye no more than the smoke detector. I will be recommending and installing this for both residential and commercial customers in the future.
TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PoE Access Point TEW-653AP (White) Opinions
So far So GOOD . Since my Fios router is not at an centralized location at my home(my fault). I got this Trendnet PoE access point to extend my network. I am new to this PoE. This access point is better than I thought now the whole house has access to the internet. Few things to consider.

1. This unit does not come plug and play but easy to install and configure
2. Read the directions to access the router because it needs to be set to Access Point(well at least mine did).
3. Also you need the TRENDnet Gigabit Power over Ethernet (PoE) Injector TPE-111GI if you want the Power over Ethernet capabilities. Doesn't come with is AP. Thank goodness for James Carter pictures of this AP cause I would of forgot to order the Injector.
Professional Access Point for an affordable price . Recent trendnet products have brought me into their camp. I have been 100% pleased with all their devices I've used in the last year.

This PoE unit is easy to configure and install. The included mounting hardware was a breeze to install about a suspended ceiling with s small masonry bit and a screwdriver. Getting power over the LAN connection is a time and money saver. No need to run A/C power to the install location - just the low power LAN cable from the trendnet PoE switch we installed in the wiring closet down the hall.

The unit has several modes of operation and we selected was as a simple access point. The configuration was easy and intuitive. After it was installed everything just worked on the first try. No gimicks and no fooling around!

The coverage was excellent over the whole end of the building including somewhat reduced areas of the floors above and below. Pretty good through concrete and steel floors!

I recommend (as a general thing) updating to the most current firmware.

This is great for commercial spaces where you need an unobtrusive wireless access point with good range and a discrete footprint.
weaker range than some older N300 devices . Great interface, highly configurable. Very attractive appearance. POE makes mounting potentially easier but you will near a power-injector (NOT included). Signal and range appear weaker than they should be. Price seems to be appropriate for what it is. I would rather pay more and get killer range and penetration like in a higher-end D-Link unit.
Excellent features for the money . I needed an AP that had PoE and supported VLANs. The TEW-653AP had those features at a very reasonable price.

Installation went smoothly, with no issues. It has a nice mounting system so you can easily mount it to a wall or a ceiling. The web interface is ok -- good enough to configure the AP effectively. I've had 2 of these running for a couple of weeks now and they've been flawless.

For those of you that are energy conscious, they seem to draw about 2w most of the time. I've seen one as high as 4w once.
Poorly Designed WAP Firmware . The TEW-653AP has two things going for it:
1) It isn't a gaudy color that attracts attention, ergo you can hide it in plain sight.
2) PoE support means you only need to worry about running CAT-5e, which is nice. However, the firmware is a shoddy port of their wifi router firmware, and it's rather out of place in a WAP. First, every time you make a change, the device wants to reboot itself, and that takes 15~30 seconds. You have to do that on *each* page. There is no way to batch changes together and then reboot to have them all simultaneously take effect. Second, the whole point of a WAP is to connect wireless clients to an existing wired network with existing services. However, the TEW-653AP doesn't have a DHCP client but *does* have a DHCP server which is nothing short of stupid. There is no use case for the DHCP server since the device has no NAT capability; it functions only in AP mode, repeater mode, or WDS bridge mode. Since the DHCP server defaults to off and there is no DHCP client, you have to pull a machine off of your network and assign it a static IP just to set up the TEW-653AP. If it had a DHCP client, it would "just work" right out of the box in most networks. There are far superior Wifi N routers available in terms of both performance and functionality which can also be run as APs and cost less than this one. Buy this one only if you want the smoke detector aesthetic.
Outstanding Access Point . The installation was simple and the signal strength cant be beat. I purchased the trend net PoE switch along with this access point. The switch was placed in the basement connected to the lan port of my router on the first floor of my house. The access point was placed in the 2nd floor hallway ceiling and the ethernet cable ran through the walls from the basement to the attic above the second floor ceiling utilizing 100 ft of ethernet cable. The installation looks great..just like a smoke detector. The signal strenth in the basement is nearly 80% from this second floor ceiling access point. There is excellent strenth outside my home as well.

Cons Review
Keep Getting Dropped Packets When i connect to this AP . I have 8 AP all of them are Dlink 3200 i installed this one in the ceiling of the Cinema Room, had one month of problems with the ISP thinking dropped packets are from the ADSL line only to discover that the AP drops packets and im right under it !!!! do not buy this item

U.S. Robotics Faxmodem 56K Internal - Fax / modem - plug-in card - ISA - 56 Kbps - V.90

This review is from : U.S. Robotics 005687-03 56K V.90 Internal Faxmodem
It's really true! . If you live in the sticks this is a must. I live outside a small town and my connectivity was lousy. I was only pulling 26,400 bps and now, after installing this and going into modem properties in control panel and adjusting the port settings to minimum, I'm pulling 45,333 bps. It's fairly easy to install (did it myself) and if you have Win98 the driver's already there-- the computer installed the software itself, basically. I have to say it again: from 26,400 to 45,333 bytes per second!
U.S. Robotics 005687-03 56K V.90 Internal Faxmodem Reviews
No problems with PnP but.. . if you intend on using this as a manually configured modem: good luck. Maybe it's just me and the people I've asked for help from, but I've still not been able to get this modem to work in the jumpered mode. In the Plug-n-Play mode it works fine and configures itself. The manual is rather skimpy on non PnP configs which doesn't help much. With that said - it does work great and I fully expect I will get it working with manual config since I want to use it under LINUX - and to do that you have to have a modem like this, NOT a windows modem, the extra cost is worth the flexibility!
U.S. Robotics 005687-03 56K V.90 Internal Faxmodem Opinions
Great upgrade solid connection . I just replaced my USR Telepath 56k winmodem with this one. As you might guess, the connection speed did not change, but I did notice it connected to my isp faster(10-15 seconds instead of 30-40 seconds), and that web pages seemed to download faster. My ping rates playing Tribes are around 25% lower and because it is not a winmodem(not trying to downside winmodems), it used its own processor instead of your cpu's, freeing up system resources. IE 5.0 comes on the software which is included. The USR 5687-03 uses an ISA slot, but don't let that turn you away. That has nothing to do with your connection speed or data trasfer. Your ISA bus is much faster than any analog internet connection. By the way, installation is a snap, just follow the instructions.
5687-3 internal usr hardware fax modem . 5687-3 hardwarethe 3 designates a card with jumpers.the jumpers can be usd to set this isa modem to com2 interrupt 3the standard or can be set to pnp mode.hardware means minimal load on your system and cpu winmodems don't really exist except for a pci enumerator that initially is detected as a unknown pci device. the actual modem is emulated by a software program running in windows, this is why it is called a win-modem.hardware modems often say they can run in dos and require a fast 386 or 486 cpu. winmodems typically need a p166 or higher to run the modem emulator program and have a little left to run your browser or other programs. do you typically run one or more programs in the background while trying to get the most speed out of games especially on line? you will be if you run a winmodem. i am sorry that they chose to advertise this fine modem that they don't have. as a come on and then have poorer modems and win modems on sale for more. most motherboards are coming with out isa slots. while the 5687-3 is software upgradable,an upgrade to v92 has yet to appear, and may not. lack of upgrade to v92 may not be a problem for a year or more as it will take that or longer for isps to adopt the new standard. lack of isa slots in newer computers may doom the isa card unless you intend to keep your computer for years to come, and don't need gigahertz computers for business and websurfing. coulomb at the LAB at webvelosix forums.
I have a problem with my phone modem. . I have a problem with my phone modem. it wont hang up and when I dial the number i have to disconnect my phone line for i can get a dial tone from it. the phone modem is only 1 year old. it is a 3com u.s. Robotics 56k inter. I use a 3 1/2 disk with modem drives 2977. what can i do?

Cons Review
Just how old is this modem??? . I found this modem rather interesting. My jaw literally dropped when I looked at the large picture for this device. ISA Bus??? What on earth??? No new computer comes with an ISA bus anymore does it? Mine only has PCI slots and one AGP slot. For a product that uses old school technology and has a $95.00 price tag just doesn't make sense to me.

Great Modem but watch out for Comcast... . I bought this modem because it identical to the Comcast provided rental unit I have been using continuously for six years without a single problem or dropped connection. They have now raised the modem rental to $7.00 per month so buying my own modem is long overdue. I purchased this on Amazon Marketplace at a good price.

The problem I have encountered is that after connecting the new modem, I called Comcast to register the MAC address, I was told that it was "already in one of their systems but not in their inventory and the systems don't talk to each other so it can not be registered." I have written them asking for a better explanation or resolution and so far have only received a canned answer which does not address the problem. Great modem based on my past experience and I'm happy with Comcast's product but Comcast's support computing systems seem to be very poorly done.
TERAYON TJ 700X TJ715X CABLE MODEM DOCSIS 2.0 Reviews
Works seamlessly ! . I'm on Comcast Cable and their provided 'no name' modem (actually a Cisco) gave about 20-25 Mbits download and about 4Mbit upload but you have to rent it for $5/month. I checked their list online of compatible modems and the Terayon was listed so I bought a 'refurbished' one from an Amazon 3rd party. It was complete including cables (but no CD), just $20 shipped quickly. I connected it up with a direct cat 5 cable to my laptop, allowed the modem to boot up and opened a web browser which automatically directed me to a Comcast modem setup page which did a few tests, verified it as compatible (I had to put in my account #) and set it up automatically. Took about 10 minutes and I didn't have to call Comcast to give them the MAC address which I had been expecting. I then connected my wireless router (a Netgear WNR1000revA) and set that up using it's automatic wizard. The only thing different I had to do compared to the original modem was 'spoof' the router MAC address to match that of my laptop which the install tech. used to do the original setup, I guess Comcasts system was looking for this (not all routers allow this though). Now I get 25-30 Mbits download (wireless) but only about 2.5 Mbit upload. This is not a problem but I'm curious as to why it's slower.
TERAYON TJ 700X TJ715X CABLE MODEM DOCSIS 2.0 Opinions
Terayon Is Speedy . The Terayon cable modem is quite speedy and performing well in several speed test as well as in general usage at well over 9000 kb/s.

Only issues so far is that you must give your cable company all the information from the back like the serial number and model number before it will work with your system. It is also both PC and Mac compatible.

Also it comes with no documentation and some units have very difficult to read serial numbers.

For its low price it performs outstandingly.

Got it but without X ..i.e TJ715 model . Ordered TJ715X model but received TJ715 instead. This model is working great. Comcast was able to activate it quickly without any issue and I am getting same download speed > 15 MB but upload speed is less (~1.5 MB) as compare to before (6 MB). I don't upload much so don't care much about it.

Initially I wanted to return it as it was not correct model but later dropped idea as modem was cheap and Comcast is charging rental on their modem.

Brijesh
Good deal . I revived a used product, as they told me, but the price was excelent, just 20% of the new brand. Work great, good deal...
Terayon TJ 700X TJ715 Modem . Yes, the black box that Comcast charges $7/month for. After two plus years, no more rental fees!!!
...It takes around 45 minutes on the Comcast tech line for all the whistles and bells to work, without the rental fee.
...I just don't know why, it took me so long, to changeover.
So far so good. Works with Comcast . Have had the modem for little over a month and works fine. Have not noticed any difference when comparing with the Comcast "rental" modem which is a RIP-OFF at 5 bucks PER Month!
Awesome . The cable modem is working great. It was easy to set up and no problems with Comcast. Was delivered in great condition, not a scratch on the unit.

Cons Review
Used modems can be risky... . Stopped working after a few hours. We stream HD video, go online, and play video games online. Since we occasionally do all that simultaneously, it was very heavy use. Got really hot. I bought it used, so I can't be too upset about it. It may have been a good modem at some point in time, just not any more. It's a little dated. I think it was one of the first DOCSIS 2.0 modems, and they are already on to 3.0. The Webstar I replaced (it was the cable comapany's) worked fine, and so does the Linksys I have now. Save yourself the lease fee and get your own modem. Just make sure it is newer so that it has all the current standards, otherwise you won't be able to get very high download speeds.
did not work . The one that I bought did not work and had to return. it could be just that I got a bad unit.

Hawking HAO9SIP Hi-Gain 9dBi Omni-Directional HAO9SIP Network Antennas (*)

This review is from : Hawking OUTDOOR OMNI DIRECTIONAL 9DBI ( HAO9SI )
OMNIpotent . This "Hawking OUTDOOR OMNI DIRECTIONAL 9DBI ( HAO9SI )" antenna feeds wifi to a "Hawking HWREN1" wireless-N range extender that broadcasts through a "Hawking HAI15SC" 15dBi corner antenna. This setup has smoothed a rather up-and-down signal through my entire house. Now my "Airport Extreme" in a "PowerMac" and my "iPod Touch 2G" can stream music all over my house. Some of the time I can stream video as well. Internet surfing is as quick as a click.
Hawking OUTDOOR OMNI DIRECTIONAL 9DBI ( HAO9SI ) Reviews
Over 300 feet of coverage from our home . We mounted this off the front of our home at the first floor's window level using the 30ft cable to reach the basement router. (make sure you order a cable by the way!) I is set up on the side of our house that faces out barn. We have a wireless foscam IP cam in the barn and another outside of the barn to protect our animals and equipment. The signal is great. Before I could pickup wireless to 15 foot outside of the frontdoor...now over 300 foot away broadcasting streaming intranet video. Remember this antenna has to be in direct line of sight of where you want to broadcast (or receive). Easy to install.
Hawking OUTDOOR OMNI DIRECTIONAL 9DBI ( HAO9SI ) Opinions
Easy to assemble . Unit needs the 30' cable to go with it and a 20' pole you supply. Very easy to assemble! However, you will likely need a more powerful router as well!

Cons Review
Stay away from Hawking. . Hawking is almost as bad a company as Best Buy. That is really saying something. This was the second of 3 items that Hawking told me I would need, after the fact. I have bought all 3 because I have a tiger by the tail and can't let go. I am still not up and running.

Kramer VS-30FW 3-Port FireWire 800 Repeater / Hub

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
The Kramer VS-30FW is a high-performance bi-directional hub/repeater for 9-pin FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) signals. It increases the number of ports available and/or extends the distance of FireWire cable runs.

This review is from : Kramer VS-30FW 3-Port FireWire 800 Repeater / Hub
FireWire 800/400 Solution for MacBook . I'm disappointed that Apple decided that the newer MacBook Pro doesn't require a FireWire 400 port. But I'm more disappointed that when they dumped the FW400, they left me with only one FW800 port. "But you can chain dozens of FW800 and 400 devices from one FW800 port" you say... not practically if you have a dozen 1TB hard drives, a FW audio interface, a FW video tape machine/camera, and still have projects come in on FW400 portable drives. Routing all of these things is impossible as the audio interface and the camera don't offer in/out ports.

So after looking around extensively, this Kramer hub seemed like the way to go. It's very solid, professionally built, can be wall powered and extends the distance in your chain. The downside is, there are only 3 ports. So one comes from you computer, one goes to the HD chain, and that still only leaves you one port for extending to FW400 devices. Kramer suggests you buy two, but think about it: for each hub you buy you add one port. That's kinda ridiculous - Kramer, make a 4 port version and you'll have a real winner.
Kramer VS-30FW 3-Port FireWire 800 Repeater / Hub Reviews
Perfect for my needs . First the bad news... I wish it had another port or two. Perhaps the lack of additional ports is a physical limitation due to FW bandwidth? I don't know... In any case, I only needed three ports. I'm using this hub to split my MacPro's FW800 port between two FW400 audio interfaces (FW adaptor cables purchased separately). This item has worked perfectly since the moment I hooked it up. No problems at all. The status lights and locking power cable connector are useful features. IMO, this product is well-built and suitable for professional use.

Cons Review
Did not live up to my needs . I did a lot of searching around before I found this Firewire 800 hub by Kramer but there are not very many of them. I bought this one thinking it was higher quality after reading the reviews. My problem is I have 3 firewire 800 disks connected to my MacBook Pro in a daisy chain. The Mac gets very hot when I have a backup running to one disk while watching a recorded TV show on the other. Plus the performance seems to degrade on the furthest disk in the chair. So, I thought a hub would give better performance and take the heat off the Mac - literally. I thought that if it has its own power supply then maybe it will not cause the Mac to overheat.

The product came nicely boxed with quality packing. But it was very lightweight as if the box were empty. I connected everything up and it worked fine. Then after a day or so I notice that when I was watching a recorded show on one of the disks it would freeze for about 5-10 seconds then startup where it left off. It did this repeatedly about every 3-5 minutes. I tried other recorded shows and they did the same thing. It did not happen during the recording because the timer on the show also froze and I did not miss any part of the show. Long story short, the Kramer Tools VS-30FW Hub was causing the problem. It has the affect of slowing down the bandwidth from the simultaneously connected 3 hard-drives. I confirmed that by connecting the single disk with the show directly to the Mac and left the others and the Kramer disconnected. The show played flawlessly and even appeared to have better resolution but that may be my imagination. Bottom line, I threw out the packing so I can't return the Kramer so I tossed it in the trash. I am now ordering the NitroAV to see if it does a better job. The specs on the NitroAV claim it operates at up to 800 Megabits per Second(Mbps), for blazing fast transfer rates, and elimination of daisy chaining, plugging and unplugging devices. Of course, the Kramer also said that but it turned out not to be true.

Feature Kramer VS-30FW 3-Port FireWire 800 Repeater / Hub

  • Ports - 3 bilingual IEEE 1394b 800Mbps (S800)
  • Range - Doubles FireWire cable range from 4.5m (14.75ft) to 9m (29.5ft). Multiple units can be cascaded to extend the range to up to 72m (236ft)
  • Hot Swapping - Supports Plug-and-Play
  • Transfer Rates - 100, 200, 400 and 800Mbps
  • ESD Protection - Incorporates Kramer's Spark-Guard Pro signal protection circuitry to help protect against EDS (electrostatic discharge) which can damage digital equipment

USB WIRELESS DEVICE SRVR

This review is from : USB Wireless Device Srvr Share On Wireless Lan
Does what you need . After looking for a product that would sync my laptops, desktop and printer - with all of the printer's information intact and available on all - along comes this little server! And just like it said - it worked. Had tried others unsucessfully. So, Silex I thank you for selling a product that does what it is supposed to do. Your customer service is also terrific and should be commended for their patience and knowledge.

Cons Review
Does NOT support iPhone/iPad . Using this product, an iPhone or iPad will not show up in iTunes, they will only show up in iPhoto. A Silex representative said they have no plans to support iPhone/iPad.
Wish it would work... . When I saw this product, I was excited to try it out in a beta site we have going with data acquisition devices.. The ability to put USB over Ethernet (IP) is convienient. The product was not intuitive to configure, you must follow the directions. The client software is brittle, it does not always work. They have no real US tech support presence, you must email them and wait for a response, do not assume same day reply. The USB server is wireless, however the device looses its connection roughly once a day and needs to be reconnected. I was attempting to use this product with data acquisition and loss of connection means loss of a data stream... Really does not work well if it fails to connect at least once a day. This product would be really useful it it did not have connection issues.

Networking, Cisco, Cisco - Power injector ( external ) - 48 V, AIR-PWRINJ3=

This review is from : Cisco Syst. POWER INJECTOR ( AIR-PWRINJ3= )
It works but there's a catch . The Aironet access points suck power (35watts or so with both radios running). Most POE switches don't deliver that kind of power. These things do. But they don't come with power supplies. Somewhere in the fine print it says to use the power supply that shipped with your Aironet device, but because the Aironets are designed to work with POE they don't come with power supplies; you have to order that as an extra.

This thing is almost more trouble than it's worth, because you have to find the right power supply and order it, too. I think I should have just bought a 6-port PowerDsine high-power midspan, which is priced about the same as 3 Cisco power injectors + 3 Cisco power supplies.
Cisco Syst. POWER INJECTOR ( AIR-PWRINJ3= ) Reviews
Works like it's supposed to and without a heavy price tag . It works great with my new Cisco 1320 AP. Relatively low price tag and allows for the possibility to use the AP without a power supply near by. This unit doesn't come with the power supply, so you'll have to use the one that came with the AP or purchase a new one.

Feature Cisco Syst. POWER INJECTOR ( AIR-PWRINJ3= )

  • Provides Ethernet inline powering as an alternative to local power or inline power capable switches, while also providing improved device and cable organization
  • Input Voltage: 48 V DC
  • Output Voltage: 48 V DC
  • Output Power: 15 W
  • Compatibility: Cisco Aironet Series Access Points: 1100 , 1200 , 1220 , 1230

The Temperature@lert TM-WIFI220 WiFi Edition is a high-performance device that monitors the ambient temperature in your server room, office, lab, residence, commercial building, heating and air conditioning system or other points of interest and alerts yo

This review is from : Temperature@lert TM-WIFI220 WiFi Edition
Awsome . Using it in our Data Center, and it's doing great. We've got it plugged in to the LAN port. A recent air cond. failure caused the temp. to spike over 100, and we didn't find out until systems started crashing. This thing lets you set your limits and forget about it. And now I can actually see the frequency of when the air cond. kicks on and off through the web based interface. Great Product!
Temperature@lert TM-WIFI220 WiFi Edition Reviews
Really nifty ! ! (once finally working) . I wanted to monitor temperature at a winter vacation house (with no land-line service, but internet access). This seemed to meet the need. It can communicate wifi or wired and both are available at the site. I figured that wired would be more dependable (KISS- "Keep It Simple, Stupid"). So the wifi capability is overkill for my needs, but this still looked to be the best (only ?) device available.
It looked simple, straightforward, does what it claims to do.
The setup configuration was fairly obvious - if you have the network smarts to configure a wireless network, then this will be pretty easy.
However the emails never happened. I tried several email servers, ports, firewall settings, all with no success.
An email to their support provided a prompt solution - they provide a more friendly, open email server. And now it works.

It is now working, and I can access it from home to monitor conditions. It is open to the internet, so I would like to see better security but it is probably adequate for the task and risk involved
Temperature@lert TM-WIFI220 WiFi Edition Opinions
nice solid product . product is basically a wifi router with two temp probes. does a simple function very well. you will need to know a little about tcpip to set up.

Feature Temperature@lert TM-WIFI220 WiFi Edition

  • Connects to your network via WiFi or wired Ethernet
  • Real Time Temperature (and optional Humidity) Alerts via Email
  • Real time temperature (humidity) graph - choose °C or °F
