Great print server . I use these at work for dozens of LJ printers and label printers. Never had one die on me. Would reccommend.

Print Server Supports More Than HP Claims . I purchased this HP JetDirect J6035G used. Hooked it up to my Home Network and connected my HP DeskJet 825C to it. This is a PPA printer that HP claims is not supported, however I was easily able to create a new IP port for the printer in WIN XP to use it. It was simple also to use with my wife's Macbook. I would highly recommend this Print Server for its ease of setup. The only minor aspect I would change is to have all connections and status lights on the same end. However this all depends on your office or network's physical layout I guess.
Jetdirect 175X 1USB 10/100BT Rohs Compliant Reviews
Works exactly as advertised . Plugged in the USB printer and the ethernet cable and the printer server showed up on the network immediately. It prints great from all computers (Macintosh) environment and works great. We have attached a Costar LabelWriter (Dymo), but I feel confident any USB printer should work the same. Truely plug-and-play!
Jetdirect 175X 1USB 10/100BT Rohs Compliant Opinions
Hooked up to a DesignJet 110+ work well but never push the test page! . I figured that a HP print server (that states that the printer it supported (DesignJet 110+)) would work perfectly. Well, it does. But, never ever touch the "test print" button. It cause the printer to throw an error stating that the black printer head is defective. This was driving me crazy. A hard reset (pulling the plug for 15 second), fixed the problem. I tryed it again and the same problem occurred. This time I gave up on the test page button and simply tried to print some autocad files. It has worked since with no problems.
The web setup is easy, and the Windows software works well.

Great but beware of Windows updates . Performance - 5 stars.
Reliability - 4 stars
Tech Support- 5 stars

EDIT: Problem below (previously posted) was NOT Sabrent's fault! I now rate this 4-5 stars.
-------------
After 3 days of incredible performance, 5 bars solid where before I was averaging 2-3, the Sabrent NT-WGHU High-Power 1000mw Wireless USB 802.11g Adapter crapped out. My PC detected its presence but where the reception bars are displayed was a big red X. Clicked the troubleshoot option but it only declared that it was not connected. Physical connection was fine. A reboot and driver reinstall was no help. Seller sent another unit but it too did not work!
-------------

EDIT: Maybe this will help others with the same problem. The problem was that some automatic Windows update (Windows 7) made the NT-WGHU software bomb out. When I did a Windows restore to a week earlier restore point the reinstall went flawlessly and the Sabrent came right back up to 5 bars. It's scary though that I have to check after any Windows update to see if everything still works. So I give it only 4 stars on reliability.

I must mention that Sabrent's telephone support was EXCELLENT. The number I got off the internet connected to California... not around the world. There was zero wait to talk to a tech. First guy gave a few recommendations on uninstalling/installing which didn't help. (I had done that stuff already but thought I'd dutifully try again). I called back within 15 minutes and immediately connected again, but to a different guy. He suggested the Windows restore routine which worked.

works for me . I'm deployed in Afghanistan and there's Wi-Fi in my camp but my computer was having a hard time connecting to it. A buddy of mine had this exact same antenna and recommended it to me. I use Windows XP, it didn't work at first but I had realized that I didn't follow the instructions properly (don't plug in the device until after everything is installed). Once I un-installed it and re-installed properly it worked great, I get full signal even in the metal container they have me living in. I bought a 15' USB extension because I figured I'd need to run it out my door because of my steel room, but I don't need it at all. Simple, affordable, and effective. Just what I want when I spend my money. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is I wish it were simple plug'n'play, you do have to download and install the software to get it to work and disable your current antenna.
Sabrent NT-WGHU High-Power 1000mw Wireless USB 802.11g Adapter for Wardriving & Range Extension with 7" Folding Booster 6dbi Opinions
Great buy! . I went from getting a couple of networks with just a few bars with the built in wireless adapter on my Dell Inspiron Laptop, to getting 3 times as many networks, most of them 4-5 bars of signal strength, with the Sabrent NT-WGHU adapter. It runs pretty cool as well and was absolutely a good buy!
Very Pleased . The Sabrent solved my problems.
Replaced another adapter that cost 10.00 more and worked much worse.
Now I get 100% Signal and 96% Link Quality, the Hawking Brand I replaced, cost more only gave me 85% Signal and 72% Link Quality.
Highly Recommend the Sabrent.....
Great for range & security testing! . This is a USB wireless adapter that is rugged, well designed and worth the money. The most attractive things about the Sabrent NT-WGHU has got to be the price being right, at $19 you won't go wrong. Second has got to be the way the device is used. It's no secret that the Sabrent is perfect for wardriving. Wardriving essentially means finding accessible WiFi hot spots at a moments notice including scanning large ranges of areas using a laptop while on the move. But wardriving need not only be a way to "steal" someone's internet in some shady way. This device is perfect for those that are in universities! The wireless connection of the Sabrent is very good unlike some thumb sized wireless adapters which have a tendency to go out or just not find wireless networks within range. You won't find that with the Sabrent. When I was in college this was one of the most useful tools I could have in conjunction with my laptop. Some complain that the drive looks very sketchy in that it's so large. That's somewhat true depending on where you live. If you're in a city, for example, people have all sorts of things plugged into their laptop. The body of the device itself is slender enough but the antenna does stick out. Personally I haven't found this to be a problem.I've used this in Windows and various Linux distributions. Unlike some smaller and more convenient wireless adapters, the Sabrent was always well supported which means it is versatile. Computer security enthusiasts interested in penetration testing (which is how most, including myself, find out about this Sabrent) should know that packet injection is possible with the unit. In fact it is chosen most by those studying security with Backtrack as it can easily be used on most system types and architectures. The only other device that gets equally the same amount of props is the AWUS036H. So if this is your bent then the Sabrent is truly the best choice available.I think this is really a great/well priced versatile adapter.
Works as advertised. . Well, the drivers that came with it do NOT work with Windows 7 x64, and BackTrack is version 3 (newest is 5, as of writing). But that's alright, because it WORKS and I like it.It does have a detachable antenna so that you can put on an even more powerful one if you wish, and it is nice that it actually came with installation discs and a PROPERLY spelled manual. (Chinese products often have bad manuals).Overall, a great buy, and recommended to anyone interested in "Wireless network hacking/auditing."For me, it serves as a second network card so I can allocate two IPs to my computer and other various stuff. Not sure if the driver needs to be installed, but the LED light does not light up or blink. It's not a problem because the thing does work.

Cons Review
Not Mac Friendly . I have been working on installing this product for well over 6 hours, with no luck. The listing, as well as the packaging and manual advertise compatibility with Mac 10.4 or Later. Currently, I'm running 10.6 on a MacBook Pro and trying to find drivers is difficult. I spoke with Tech Support (who were very friendly and willing to help), and they sent me directly to the RealTek website due to the fact that it operates on a RT8187 chip. Unfortunately all drivers were "unavailable" according to the site. The package does come with an installation disc, complete with drivers for Windows, Linux and Mac. However if you have a slot feed disc reader, you will have to have an external drive that has a disc tray as the install disc is miniature. Also, the drivers included for mac are for 10.3 and 10.4.The process is very frustrating for someone used to plug and go.
STILL WORKING WITH UNIT . THE DISK WOULD NOT LOAD DOWN ON MY DELL DESKTOP WITH PROFESSIONAL XP PROGRAM. I AM STILL WORKING TO GET IT TO DOWN LOAD, SO UNTIL I DO, I DO NOT KNOW HOW EFFECT THE WIRELESS UNIT WILL WORK.

Linksys PLTS200 PowerLine 4-Port Network Adapter

The Powerline 4-port Network Adapter lets you easily create a network using the existing electrical outlets in your home. Now you don't have to drill holes in walls and climb through the attic or cellar to install network cables -- just use the wires that already run through the building. The Powerline 4-port Network Adapter connects computers, or any other wired Ethernet device, using the HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo network standard. It also works with older HomePlug 1.0 devices. Adding devices to the network is as simple as plugging the Powerline 4-port Adapter into an electrical outlet, and connecting up to four Ethernet-equipped devices to the built-in Ethernet ports. Additional devices can be connected to the same network using additional Powerline Adapters plugged into any electrical outlet anywhere in the house.

This review is from : Linksys PLTS200 PowerLine 4-Port Network Adapter
Not compatible with PLE200 or PLK200 . This product is not compatible with 2 PLE200 devices that I have on my network and has been confirmed by a service rep despite Linksys stating that it is backwards compatible.
Linksys PLTS200 PowerLine 4-Port Network Adapter Reviews
Great Product! Easy To Install And Use . I added the Linksys PLTS200 Powerline 4-Port Network Adapter to an existing Linksys powerline network. The installation and configuration of the entire network is very easy, almost plug and play. The additional adapter installation was completed by just plugging it in. It is so much simpler than running ethernet cables throughout the house and installing jacks at the points network access is needed. There is no noticeable noise from the power and network sharing the same cables. Each powerline network adapter contains its own surge protection to avoid needing to connect the adapters to surge protectors. I have several computers, a Blu-ray player, and an HD-DVR all connected to the Internet through this powerline network. The network connection speed is excellent. I highly recommend this product.
Linksys PLTS200 PowerLine 4-Port Network Adapter Opinions
Works as advertised . Easy to install. Plug it in. I already had the starter kit. This added internet access in another room on the far side of the house. I can watch Netflix streaming movies in 3 rooms in the house now.
Great within its limits . Setup was a snap and works without further monitoring. I am using them for Sat STB and Blu-ray player updates. For that they are just fine! I am also using it for a network printer and that is so far ok. Some connection issues but I think that is not necessarily the fault of the power line units. I get up to 40 mbps averaging in the low thirties. It is rated higher but I am guessing most home wiring will not allow it (my house is 10 years old). It is not HomePlug AV standard compatible so the faster rated linksys products won't work with it. Could be factor later.

For player updates it is a good option. For home networks I remain undecided.

Cons Review
Powerless Powerline . The PowerLine adapter just doesn't work for us. It is difficult to install and set up. We have been unable to get it working on our network, despite phone calls to Linksys tech support. And, buy the way, the tech support didn't help. They never related to our issues and provided no constructive instructions.

I would be very reluctant to recommend this product. I wish it worked, because the idea is good.

This review is from : ZyXEL NBG4615 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router
Doesn't work with U-verse TV (no IGMPv3 support) and no telnet management . I'm a big fan of ZyXEL stuff, from their 56K modems back in the day, to the Prestige line of ADSL modems that I used to have with my Sprint / Embarq a few years ago. So I was pretty excited about this router.

I now live in San Jose, California in a new apartment building, and have AT&T U-verse delivered by fibre that is terminated in my bedroom's walk-in closet. I got this ZyXEL router with the intention of entirely replacing the huge RG that AT&T supplies all of its customers with (2Wire 3800HGV-B), including customers that have a fibre-terminated Fast Ethernet, which is connected to the BROADBAND port on that huge multipurpose RG (instead of the PHONE LINE, as would be the case with xDSL customers). (Note for novice users: This router cannot replace the RG if you have regular AT&T U-verse powered by xDSL, which is what more than 90% of U-verse customers currently have.)

I connected this router to my fibre-box, cloned my RG's MAC address (you won't get a DHCP lease without cloning the MAC address of your 2Wire RG for some reason), setup my Static IP allocation under Configuration: Network: LAN: IP, and it all worked after that. With the exception of U-verse TV.

To get the TV working, I tried enabling IGMPv1/v2, and after that, TV seemingly started to work, too; yet each channel could only be watched for like 15 seconds, and then the TV box would report that the signal is lost. Supposedly, AT&T U-verse TV requires IGMPv3, as is evidenced by some statistics on the 2Wire RG, but this router only supports v1 and v2, so, I guess I'm out of luck. I then tried to actually disable IGMP all together, as I've figured I only have one TV box, so IGMP on my own network doesn't really make that much sense. The TV box actually still seemed to work for a while even after IGMP was disabled (it didn't seem to work at all prior to IGMP being enabled in the first place), and my dumb GS108 was only reporting activity on two ports (e.g. IGMP must have been indeed off). However, each TV channel would still only work for like 15 seconds, before the TV box claiming that the signal is lost. Disabling the firewall on the router didn't seem to alleviate any of these problems. I tried disabling NAT (I have a bunch of public IPs, so NAT is not needed), however, TV now didn't work at all. (I have to say I'm not very familiar with IGMP yet.)

The power consumption is significantly lower than that of 2Wire RG: 2Wire gets around 10W idle, yet this thing gets only 5W. E.g. you get both: considerably lower power consumption, yet considerably higher wired and wireless networks -- impressive. Size-wise, this router is also considerable smaller.

Overall, however, I am somewhat disappointed in this router, for the following reasons:

* There is no telnet configuration, which I've grown to love with my old Sprint/Embarq Prestige modems.
* The LAN setting only has one IP Alias option, I recall even my Prestige modems had 2 aliases.
* DHCP Server: Advanced tab wouldn't let you use addresses from the "LAN: IP Alias" tab, saying that they are invalid as they are outside of the "LAN: IP" subnet.
* As per above, it looks like DHCP server only supports a single IP subnet. That's just stupid, even the 2Wire RG that was to be replaced allows you to specify either a private or a public IP address for each machine.
* No prefilled MAC-address values anywhere whatsoever in the interface; you have to find all the info by hand and manually place it into the tables provided.
* No IGMPv3 support, which supposedly seems to be required in order for the U-verse TV to work at all.
* Firmware update from the first version (late 2010) to the second version (summer 2011) removes the ability to specify IPv6 on the IPv6 settings page. WTF?
* Bandwidth Management for Guest WLAN is a lie -- you provide a single kbps setting, yet your given value only limits downstream, thus your guests can easily saturate your upstream if they wish to, against your instruction, knowledge or desire, and make your connection unusable (saturated upstream would make the fastest connection unusable). I tried the limit of 384 kbps on my 18/1.5 U-verse, and benchmarked 0.34Mbps downstream and 1.4Mbps upstream, e.g. upstream got saturated. There's also no setting of what external IP-address should be used for Guest WLAN (remember, I have a bunch of Static IP addresses).
* Other annoying bugs in the cumbersome interface.

I'm thinking that I might be returning this unit, or simply not end up using it myself as the primary device I expected it to be. Power consumption, Gigabit Ethernet and 300 Mbps Wireless N are all nice, but the shortcomings are a bit disappointing. I was expecting more from ZyXEL.

I cannot say that I'd recommend this ZyXEL NBG4615 router, unless you really are looking for a quite simple network.
ZyXEL NBG4615 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router Reviews
Meets all my needs . This router replaced an aging D-link 615(?) wireless G router. The router arrived the same day as a house full of guests. It was up and running on DSL with my WPA2 devices in 10 minutes. Another 5 minutes, easily added a guest SSID for the house guests. One feature that attracted me was the USB ports for printers and external hard drive. Printer and external drive sharing never worked with the D-link. Simply installed the USB share utility on the laptops, plugged the USB hub in to the NBG4615, both HP printers, scanner and the external drive were recognized. So far, no issues with printing. The external drive must be attached and released by each laptop for sharing. The best feature is the laptops quickly reconnect with the network when coming out of Standby mode. So far its been successful every time. With the D-link, it missed about 60% of the time.
ZyXEL NBG4615 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router Opinions
ZyXEL NBG4615: Nice features... If they work for you. . I really wanted to rate this router 5 stars, but found that it had some troublesome shortcomings. I'll try to keep this short and to the point...I was looking for a "Green" router, not for the power savings (come on, how much difference does it actually make?), but for the ability to shut off the wireless and reduce EMFs in my house when not needed. This one has a wireless scheduler as well as a Wireless "On/Off" switch. THE PROBLEM: the radio doesn't actually shut off! I know this because I tested it with an RF meter. There is no change in radio emissions when you switch off the wireless either in the scheduler or with the manual switch. I guess it just disables the SSID broadcast. Now I have to wonder: how can it be saving power if it's still transmitting at full power? I put in an email request to Tech Support and got a response a few days later asking me what meter I used to measure it. Then they said they would look into it. That was about a week ago, and I haven't heard anything yet. With the wireless transmitter maxed out, it doesn't get any better range than my old Buffalo G54, but has a much stronger RF signal. I didn't try the USB ports, but the setup for them seemed pretty straightforward. My only other complaint is that the unit is so small that they don't have much room between the switches and plugs on the back. I have bigger fingers, so it is definitely a challenge to get those switches on or off. Since I was looking for a router that I could conveniently turn on and off, it kind of defeats the purpose of having them in the first place. In general, this is still a nice router for the money. It has a lot of features packed into a small footprint -- something you'll have to pay over $100 for with other brands. Yes, it's a little dorky looking, but that's no biggie. Dual USB ports is a big plus if you want to share a USB printer AND an external storage device. Easy to use software interface, but if you get into the "Expert" mode, it takes a bit more knowledge, as the manual isn't always clear or descriptive. That's pretty much par for the course on wireless routers though.Overall, I'd say this is a good router for moderate techies (major tech heads need not bother). I couldn't bring myself to give it fewer than 4 stars, especially given that I haven't found a router that works much better than this one out of the box. I had pretty specific requirements, but I couldn't find in any other off-the-shelf router for under $100 that didn't have deal-breaking flaws. I did try the Netgear N600, with frustrating results -- ended up using an older Netgear with opensource dd-wrt firmware to enable the features I wanted. If you want Gigabit Ethernet, fast wireless speeds, dual USB sharing and you don't care about dual-band wireless, this router may just work nicely for you. Just don't expect a range improvement, and don't plan on using the switches on the back.

This review is from : ZyXEL M202 802.11g Xtreme Mimo USB 2.0 Wireless Network Adapter
This adapter works well for me . I bought two M-202s to upgrade my old 802.11b WEP adapters to 802.11g with WAP. I had some problems during the installation process on Windows XP-SP2 ("Illegal System DLL Relocation") but called costumer support and was given a link to a Microsoft hotfix (KB935448 ). The adapter worked once I downloaded and installed the hotfix. On my first installation, only the administrator could access the adapter. Other users could not access the wireless connection. Then I decided to uninstall the software included in the installation CD and let Windows XP manage the adapter using only the driver included in the installation CD. Everything worked well after these minor setbacks. I have two M-202 working seamlessly with an old Lynksys WRT54G router. Connectivity is good in all areas of my house. Xyzel costumer support was friendly and helpful. I think this adapter is a good bargain for $13.
ZyXEL M202 802.11g Xtreme Mimo USB 2.0 Wireless Network Adapter Reviews
Well done but certainly not MIMO . This is a well done USB wireless G adapter as plain as they come, well performing and works with XP, Vista and Windows 7.

This item is absolutely fantastic for Internet, for ease of use and for longer range. Its also quite efficient, having lower-than-average computer resource consumption (it won't slow your pc).

It contains a new model Zydas chipset (now owned by and nicely improved by Atheros). Atheros has always defined anything with more than one antenna as MIMO. Atheros has re-named a 51 year old technology of antenna diversity as MIMO, and they are certainly not the same thing. The advertisment is fiction because there is only one radio unit inside. This device is not an optimized partner for Zyxel's MIMO router of the same name.

However, there is much good news.
This small USB device works better than most, the drivers for Zydas are finally mature, and it will get any XP, Vista or Windows 7 computer connected to any wireless router as easily as possible. . . You do put in the CD first and plug in the (included) USB cable. Then Windows will automatically find the drivers (which work immediately). Brilliant!

For myself and my clients, these are totally reliable.
Its so durable that it can withstand WPA2 + AES use, and it still maintains a steady connection. I use mine on my WPA + AES routers. Its just fine that way too.

Be aware that if you "duke it out" in competition for attention to a True Mimo, Super G, or "N" wireless router that this quite ordinary "G" device may get hampered a bit (when other computers are present and have connected at a faster rate). To be clear, you won't notice this for Internet use. ;)

Here's the deal: If you buy it, knowing that its a ordinary "54G" wireless, then you won't be disappointed. It works superbly, and it will quickly connect your XP, Vista, and Windows 7 to your Linksys or any brand router with no trouble whatsoever.
ZyXEL M202 802.11g Xtreme Mimo USB 2.0 Wireless Network Adapter Opinions
Zyxel can do better than this. . I bought 2 of these units hoping for better connectivity. I got it...kind of. I had to place the unit in a more open area. No big deal, but not what I had planned. Also, the install can be fussy. The Zyxel software crashed during install and after a few tries I gave up on the software and just used the windows wireless management tool. It works and through put is pretty good. Not a perfect solution if you ask me.
I like it! . I disagree with the other reviewer, works great for me and has a long range.
Excellent Adapter . Strongly disagree with other reviewers. In my case it works great and provides stronger performance even at lower coverage areas. In addition, it reduces connection time to available wi-fi's to 1-2 seconds, which is really-really fast.

In short - highly recommended.
good long lasting . I had plenty of trouble with thick walls and a cheap N Mimo Linksys Router, disconnecting etc. with a Vista computer. This adapter mostly solved my problems although the Router still frequently goes down.
This has decent speed and good range and seems able to recover from problems decently.
Best of all my kids have figured out how to unplug this router from the USB, and plug it in again when the connection goes down, and it's been done many many times, and this adapter has survived years of this.
The problems are with the router, thick walls, and very busy radio interference in the heart of NYC, not with this adapter which has been wonderfully long-lasting. It's common for WiFi devices to wear out over time and I will buy more Zyxel products when needed. I upgraded to Windows7 and the connection is much faster and better, including to recover.
Great MIMO adapter . Worth every penny. Don't use the software, just get the driver off the CD and you'll be good. I've used it for over a year now and have had no problems with it, fast and lasts under heavy downloads.

UPDATE: ZyXEL seems to have discontinued this product to where they don't even recognize this product existing on their driver website. This is really disappointing, but this product is outdated.
Easy to set up - works great on my desktop! . I admit, I know practically nothing about wireless networking. I bought the Zyxel (550?)Router and this adapter based on reviews. I can't believe how easy it was to set up and how fast my computer is now!!! I have hughest net satellite (which is horrible! I don't recommend them to anyone! Just read reviews at broadband forums and watch out for their FAP.) anyhow, to continue...since I hooked up Zyxel router and Zyxel network adapter it is work a hundred times faster and both computer work superbly! I am a non-technical person so can't give you and numbers - but it was an easy setup and I'm very pleased with the results. If it matters, I live in a rural area where's there's no DSL and lots of trees. The router and adapter are three rooms away. I am very pleased and no problems! Excellent Fast Transmission.

Cons Review
Zyxel claims for longer range don't hold up . I bought a couple of the Xtreme MIMO M-202 USB units and have a short review:
Set up is easy and utility provides a simple set of functions but probably won't please those wanting more than the basics. The driver is Microsoft certified and seems to take few processor system resources and has caused no problems with other software.

But I expected a MIMO device to provide longer range than an 802.11g/b device which just is not the case. The unit does seem to maintain a connection better than many WiFi products at low signal levels, but this is no better than current version 802.11b/g products based on Atheros and other 3rd generation chips. I expected an improvement from the use of MIMO but either because the product does not implement true MIMO or because the antenna arrangement used in the small USB device does not provide enough diversity or amplification, the M202 falls far short of expectations.

I have not tested the M-202 with an xtreme MIMO or other manufacturer's access point. Perhaps the MIMO capabilities will work between other similar MIMO devices. But at a stand alone, this product is not worth buying unless you can get it for a price similar to non-MIMO 802.11g/b USB products.
POJ!!! . Yes! The Zyxel M-202 is really a piece of junk! Zyxel has rolled out several driver/firmware update versions in the past 1.5 years trying to trouble shoot Windows XP incompability issues in some newer PC...but to date: none has worked! And now, they have decided to delete all (everything!) M-202 related support/update materials from their website and to date has not returned any of our emails. I have owned several Zyxel products including the "old" G-200 (which works fine...after updating the driver) and so far this MIMO adapter is one of the rotten lemons. Also, the NetGear MIMO USB adapter is working okay for me but it tends to heat up fast.

The 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW is a wireless base station for the home or small office network with a built-in DSL modem to make the connection to the Internet and a wireless 802.11b router and access point to share the connection. ? The built-in professional-grade firewall helps to protect your network from outsiders. ? Supports HomePNA 2.0 and 1.0 ? The 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW comes with both USB and Ethernet networking ports, providing flexibility and compatibility.

This review is from : 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW DSL Modem and Network Router
Good product for simple tasks . My 1000H Homeportal has been a solid performer and was extremely easy to install. I have been using it for three years and have had no problems. However, I don't recommend this device unless you are looking for the cheapest, most reliable solution to sharing an Internet connection, files and printer between computers. The 2Wire 2700HG-B DSL Modem Router Wireless Access Point currently sells for about the same price and is a much better product.

The 1000HW acts as the network Access Point for up to four PCs, which can then simultaneously share a single internet connection, printers, and files between any of the computers. The Homeportal has only one ethernet and one USB 1.1 connection, meaning that the connection of more than one PC to the unit will require Wireless networking or a seperate device that allows multiple ethernet cable connections. The Homeportal is limited to Wireless 802.11B connections. This means slower connection than 802.11G when networking wirelessly, and definitely not a good thing for those looking to stream music or video files or any video rich Internet content. Given that, I highly recommend getting the 2Wire 2700HG-B DSL Modem Router Wireless Access Point. The 2700HG-B is 802.11G and allows four ethernet connections.

The 1000HW has a built-in firewall that will provide all the security most users need when coupled with Anti-virus software, and requires no configuring by the user. For those who want to create more access to their network, the 2Wire software allows more advanced users that flexibility also. It is capable of WEP and WPA encryption modes.

Pros:
- cheap
- easy to install
- very reliable
Cons:
- only one Ethernet connection
- USB 1.1 not the faster 2.0
- 802.11b is too slow for those whose primary interest is streaming digital entertainment (music, videos, photos), need 802.11G, and probably 802.11N if wanting to stream Hi-Definition content
- Can probably get a 802.11g product from 2Wire or other manufacturer for about the same price and will need the extra speed to meet the future demands of Media rich content used at home or in the office.

2Wire HomePortal 1000HW DSL Modem and Network Router Reviews
Good performance but doesn't support WPA2 . I've had this modem/router for nearly 5 years, and its performance is very good. It has had intermittent problems with maintaining signal which required "rebooting" (i.e. disconnecting the power) on some occasions, but for the most part it is very reliable. It is able to detect many other neighborhood networks - not that it matters, since all these networks are secured.

My only complaint is that it only supports the inferior WEP encryption. WPA2 is not possible with this model.
2Wire HomePortal 1000HW DSL Modem and Network Router Opinions
Works very well . This product has worked flawlessly for me for 3 years (I can't say the same for the phone lines!). I use two computers--a Mac and a PC--communicating with it wirelessly. I run an ethernet wire from the port to to a network-ready printer and have wireless access to the printer from both computers. However, there are some additional features allowing more connection options that some might wish to be part of this modem-router.
It just works! . I've had the 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW modem for nearly four years now. I've never had a problem with the modem. It stays connected 24/7/365 and I've only occassionally rebooted it (those times I suspect it was a DSL line problem and not the modem itself). This modem came with my SBC Yahoo (now AT&T Yahoo) DSL account and was free at the time. I'd definitely buy another one if I were in the market for a new DSL modem. One thing I want to mention is that I've never tried the wireless capabilities so I can't say how well it works but as a wired modem it's great. I also want to mention that the firewall feature is excellent.
Died in < 2 years. . I owned it.
It worked great as long as it worked.
Died in less than 3 years without any specific reason.
Wonderful Piece of Equipment . I have had this modem for 3 years now. I never realized that it was also a wireless router. I wish I had known this before I went a bought a Belkin wireless router. That thing never worked properly. This thing works wonderfully. This should be the industry standard for DSL modems and network routers.
Thank you 2Wire.

Cons Review
This is an old XP device w/ limited support. . I wanted a used DSL modem to avoid signing a contract with AT&T. I foolishly purchased a used 2Wire 1000HW on Amazon without first checking to see if it was compatible with my crappy Vista 64-bit operating system. The seller didn't mention that the driver disc wasn't included, which is normally not a problem, because downloading drivers is easy from most manufacturer's website... emphasis on "most". 2Wire is an unfortunate exception. 2wire(.)com is a very limited website with marginal technical assistance, which is why they get 2 stars. In the FAQ section, they state:

"2Wire Inc., AS A COMPANY, fully supports Windows Vista. 2Wire will work quickly to resolve any compatibility issues as they are reported, both through internal testing and via customer feedback. Unless specified otherwise, "Windows Vista" in this FAQ refers to all editions of the operating system."

Unfortunately, that simple statement above is as far as their "support" goes. There are NO Vista drivers, NO patches, or anything else for that matter. They say they support it, but there is nothing to back up the statement. This is shameful. I'm used to uninstalling new software because it won't work with Vista 64-bit, but at least those websites don't make misleading claims.

It took hours to rig my system to make it connect, and this thing is so old I'm not even going to try to install the wireless on a Vista system.

** Incidentally, if you need to reset the modem the correct 2-wire website to go to is 172.16.0.1 (There is no Domain name, just an I.P address-- type those numbers in the address bar and the site will guide you through the process to reset passwords, etc.) My AT&T customer support people had to search far and wide to find this address and the instructions to modify settings. Heaven help you if you end up with some Support team in India.

If you are using XP or earlier, and you are skilled enough to install networks without technical support, then this is good product. I certainly wouldn't pay more than $25, though.
ROUTER DIDN'T WORK! . The title tells all; I got the router in the mail, hooked it up, and it failed to work. I've since hooked my old wireless router back up and am back online, writing this review. I hate it when I get ripped off!

This review is from : RCA Digital Cable Modem (DCM245R)
Grab these before they replace it with the new model . For a couple years we had one of those rental units from the CATV Company. When we found out that under the rental agreement, if it broke they had the right to charge us way too much cash for replacement, it was time to get our own unit. In rental fees alone, the RCA paid for itself in less than a year. The cable company itself has gone away from the expensive units of the past, and uses a black, lay-down only version of the RCA modem. The RCA model here can be used as an upright (which is the way we use it), or attach the rubber feet, and use it as a lay-down model. It features either USB connection, or the standard Ethernet. I have an older computer running Windows 98SE, and the generic Ethernet card did not seem to work. The USB option works well, and is a nice option. It also features a rear reset, and a front on-off button. One feature that's hard to appreciate if you didn't know about it is the placement of the cable connector. On the old rental unit it was high in the middle, and even with the large modem size it would sometimes tip the modem if the cable were disturbed. RCA places their connection right near the bottom when used in the upright position. This not only alleviates the problem with our old rental unit, but also helps prevent tipping of the much lighter RCA unit.We have used the RCA unit now for several months, and find it performs as well or better, than the old expensive rental unit. If we could ask for anything more (hence the four stars), we'd like units to show a simple display of the current connection speed, and activity. We realize this is available in software, but its nice to see it before attempting a download connection, or accessing Internet monitors. Currently the RCA unit flashes in response to changing speeds, but we'd like to see a simple numerical indication. As more CATV high-speed connections are installed, overall speed will decline. In the future, we'd like to try and hit the best times for fast downloads. Even over a CATV modem, a recent download of OS updates for my fathers Mac, took a few hours to complete. Now that video, media, and other files are getting ever bigger; its nice to know what speeds can be obtained.
RCA Digital Cable Modem (DCM245R) Reviews
A Nice Little Cable Modem . I bought this item from e-bay new and unopened in the box. When the internet cable technician installed it he said it was a good one. So far I have had no problems and it seems to be a nice little modem. The modem front displays are easy to read and the installation is easy. The only drawbackin my case was that it didn't have an ethernet cable as partof the system (USB cable was included in the box) and I hadto purchase one of these. No big deal.
RCA Digital Cable Modem (DCM245R) Opinions
Good Performer . I have had this modem (provided by my cable company) for about 6 months now and I have had no problems at all. This modem has a MAC address which I needed to provide to my cable company so they could link my service to the modem (not sure if other cable providers operate the same way). The performance has been good and if I have lost my connection, it has been the fault of the company/lines, not the modem. In which case, a phone call usually gets the problem resolved within a couple hours at most.
Great Modem! . I was renting a DCM225R Cable modem from Charter - and when I saw this modem on sale, I decided it was time to stop renting. It installed with no hassles at all. Just wait and watch the lights telling you what it's doing (searching for the downstream connection, searching for the upstream connection, etc.) Then boot up your computer. I didn't have to do any configuration changes at all. And it might be me - but the link seems even faster now!
super performer . Until 2 months ago I used Com21 modem that often was disconnected from my cable provider. I called Charter and complained; they imediately replaced the COM21 (said they had issues with that brand before) and replaced it with this RCA unit. Not only I had no problem ever since, it is also lot faster than the previous unit. Highly satisfied with this product!
Average performance terrible reliability . I've gone through 2 of these so far. The modem works great for 4 months then there is intermittent packet loss. Eventually it happens every 10-15 minutes. Since they are leased by the cable company they replace them for free. If I was to purchase one I'd go with a more trustworthy brand like Motorola.
cable modem . IT works good with the comcast network. It is working good with our networking.
Works great! . I'm using this for my cable connection and it ably can supply Internet access to my wireless network which consists of a Linksys router and two PC's. I get incredibly low ping times and it makes online gameplay a real pleasure. Great deal.
It just works... . The RCA Digital Cable Modem (DCM245R) is a cable modem that just works.First purchased in June of 2002, my unit has never given me one bit of problems. During those times when something seemed wrong, it was due to the cable network NOT my modem. I have been able to count on a connection day in and day out with this unit.It is DOCSIS compliant which means that it should be usable with many of the cable networks out there. However, check with your cable provider to make sure.I can hardily recommend this unit as it has withstood the test of time and continues to provide me with exceptional service to this day.Highly recommended!
RCA Needs to Update their Manual . The manual that came with my DCM235 cable modem is a cross model manual that does in fact say that the download speeds are 3000Kbps. That is not to say that the DCM245R does not have 32Mbps download speeds. The thing to remember about this stuff is that like telephone modems, the rated speed is going to be greater than what the system actually provides. Most cable operators are providing speeds between 500Kbps and 1.2Mbps. My 3000Kbps cable modem is just fine, and most gaming can operate at those speeds just fine.I think that for what the infrastructure is currently capable of, a person could find an equivalent performing model for a cheaper price.

The MiniHubalso supports USB 1.1 devices since it is backward compatible with USB 1.1 specifications. It is very easy to use, Plug-n-Play, hot swappable and portable.

This review is from : IOGEAR GUH227 7 Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub for MAC and PC
Really two 4-port hubs cascaded together . Caution: This "7-port" hub is really two 4-port hubs cascaded together.

Device Manager, in Windows, reveals this product to consist of one 4-port hub that is internally attached to one of the ports of another 4-port hub. This leaves 7 free ports total. Iogear advertises this as one 7-port hub, which is slightly misleading, so beware of this. Running connections through multiple hubs, in some situations, might slightly degrade performance, just so you know.

As others have said, the flimsy rubber vertical stand is junk, don't use it. Makes a fine cat toy, though. I have no desire to stand it vertically, so the failure of this is not a problem for me.

The good news is that this hub seems to be designed with some nice aesthetics in mind. The power supply connection fit in snugly, and doesn't want to wiggle out like on other hubs I've tried in the past (hello, Belkin). The 2 front ports are slightly recessed, diagonally, so they look nice on the table. The 5 ports on the back are far enough apart that you can unplug one thing without chafing against the connector of something else and having to unplug that too, which is good. The front panel lights on the hub serve their purpose, to let you know something's connected, without being overly bright or garish.

It would make my day if Iogear would truly make a 7-port hub, instead of just internally lashing together two 4-port hubs. Making the hub a little heavier, to avoid sliding around on the desk when many weighty cables are attached, would also be a plus!
IOGEAR GUH227 7 Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub for MAC and PC Reviews
Nice but Flawed . The style of this hub nicely compliments Mac computers and others. What is disappointing is the dark grey base. The base is not integrated with hub at all. The base, made of a rubber material, is very light. This means the 7 USB cables and accessories you have are all tugging on it in various directions. This makes the hub unstable and prone to flopping over.
IOGEAR GUH227 7 Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub for MAC and PC Opinions
Not bad for the price . First of all I read the reviews before buying, so I didn't have high hopes of it standing on end, it fits my desktop scheme better on its side anyway. Iogear could have included some stick on feet for the side, but that may give creedance to the poor design of the phony rubber stand..that could have worked if they had just made it a little bigger and heavier. I wanted a 7 port hub that had at two front ports to plug in a camera or jump drive, this and the Belkin seem to be the only ones available. I probably would have bought the Belkin if the price had been the same.
The good: It works well and does what I want it to do. I don't notice any lack of performance with my Lexar lightning jump drive or my Canon i9900 printer although I don't print and transfer large files at the same time.
Bottom line: Good device for the money!
Superb -- I'm very happy with this hub. . There are lots of devices like this out there, and this was the best price I found. Everything seems to connect these days by USB, and this hub is a great way to expand computers with only five or six built-in connections.
excellent . Using on a Mac running OSX leopard, and absolutely no problems. What else can I say, it works...
Works on my Mac Mini . The stand isn't worth even packing in the box, but the hub itself works just fine. I have an external hard disk, printer, keyboard, and mouse plugged in and there were no issues with any of them. Access to the hard disk shows no speed loss as opposed to being plugged directly into one of the mini's onboard USB ports.

As an added bonus, the styling of this USB hub blends well with Mac gear.
IOGear Hub - simple and reliable . I have used the hub for 3 months now and so far it has worked without any sort of issue. Good product for the price.
necessary option . This unit works great. I like the flexability it gives with 7 more usb connections. With a wireless hook up using two of my usb connections, this was a real necessity. It works without any problem and I now have two of them, one for each of my Mac computers. Yes, the base is flimsey, but I don't knock things around when I am on the computer so this is no problem.

Cons Review
Bad design . The base doesn't work. Who is Iogear trying to kid? I find it ridiculous that they sell a base that has no functional use once the cables are connected to the unit since the cables weigh more than the base itself. It is clear that the base is designed not for a functional use, but to sell the product packaging.

It is not a wonder no one ever sees a demo image of the base in use with the cables connected.
Looks good but doesn't work very well . I bought this hub to go with my Mac Mini. It looks good, and I like the two front-facing ports (great for iPods and cameras). However, I've had nothing but problems with the devices I've used with the hub.

When trying to upload pictures from my camera, it will work great the first time. If I "eject" the camera, disconnect it, and then connect it again later, iPhoto hangs up trying to access the camera. If I connect the camera to a different port, everything works fine. The only thing that regains access to that port is rebooting the computer and the hub.

This same behavior manifests itself with iPods (a Shuffle and a Nano) and iTunes. iTunes usually just hangs up trying to access the iPod, forcing a hard reboot. Fortunately I haven't had to do an iPod software update through this hub - who knows what would happen!

When printing to my Canon S800 printer through this hub, the print queue will randomly stop itself for no apparent reason. Sometimes restarting the print job works, other times it simply spits out random parts of pages and stops again. Switching the printer to a different hub fixed the issue and now everything is working perfectly.

The only device I haven't had problems with using this hub is an external USB2.0+FireWire hard drive. It's much slower with the USB2.0 connection than with the FireWire connection, though, so I usually just plug it in with FireWire.

Anyone want to buy a used USB 2.0 hub? ;)

Wow I have my life back! . What an amazing difference this little device has made for me! My internal modem failed and I had to order a new computer. None of the new computers I was looking at had a dial-up modem. This reliable little gadget has allowed me to continue using the same Internet connection, I always have. It is faster and very reliable. I highly recommend it!
StarTech.com External V.92 56K USB Fax Modem (USB56KEM2) Reviews
USB Data Fax Modem . I really liked this and the convenience of it. I used this for an external modem on a desktop for a dial-up connection. It was very easy to use and connect. I really like that you don't have to have it plugged into an electrical outlet, too. It doesn't get in the way and just plugs right into a USB port.
StarTech.com External V.92 56K USB Fax Modem (USB56KEM2) Opinions
good product . This is a good product ,I received it ,opened it up and installed the disk and set it up and not one problem did I encounter.I since then have over rode all my other internal modems with this particular usb modem and will order a few to have on hand.StarTech external modem is a life saver and I am pleased that I found it at Amazon.com.

Cons Review
"Fax Talk" software NOT included . Contrary to what is stated in the Amazon description and statements on Startech's net site and the box the modem came in, Fax Talk software is NOT included. Contacting Startech support on 3 occasions they finally said they would put the missing software up on their net site for me to download. A few hours later I received an email stating Fax Talk software is not included.

Product was helpful in identifying problem with motherboard from ANTONLINE . I bought a motherboard from ANTONLINE which was defective, despite repeated requests for assistance I purchased this product to definitively identify the problem as a defective motherboard. The product is a little expensive but when ordering from vendors like ANTONLINE which have poor return policies, it is helpful to be able to identify whether they have sent you a defective produce or not. This card is a helpful addition to my diagnostic toolkit.
StarTech.com PCI POST PC System Diagnostics Test Card with 2 x 7 Segment LED (PCIPOST) Reviews
StarTech PCI POST test card . This simple PCI board shows the BIOS boot code during the system POST making troubleshooting mainboards and peripherals no guesswork. Each of the POST (self test) stages outputs a hexadecimal code as the test progresses, and when the error is located, the system halts and the code remains on the readout for referencing in the manual.

Very pleased Tech . I would recommend this diagnostic card to anyone who needs fast fixes on Computer repairs. Grab one today, you will be glad you did. Makes troubleshooting so much easier.

Cons Review
Hard To See Post Code Output Poor Documentation Overpriced . This PCI Post Card is barely acceptable. I bought this unit because time was very short for me. I needed to test a dead computer as quickly as possible and Amazon could get this to me quickly.

The card installs in the PCI slot so that the LCD unit mounted on it is upside down and you have to tilt the system unit backwards, hunker yourself down, and generally experience discomfort in order to view the code coming on the card. For the money one pays, it would be better to include a cable with an LCD display on the end which plugs into the card.

The worst point about this POST card is the horrible, misspelled, incomplete documentation. You might as well make sure you have several websites handy which list POST codes and explains their meaning and what action, if any, you should take. The documentation was written by an Asian person who learned English as a second language and learned it poorly at that. The vendor ought to hire a qualified technical writer fluent in English to write the manual. By this I mean a technical writer who natively speaks, reads, and writes English. Poorly done documentation should be unacceptable for technical equipment.

The manual doesn't explain what a POST code of 00 means. It does not list what corrective actions might be appropriate for a given code. I had to Google search for such information. That might be the best thing to do with this type of hardware, I don't know; I just feel that if a manual is included with the hardware it should be well written and decently comprehensive.

In summary, the biggest reason for not buying this card is the miserable documentation. Also, this card should have an LCD attached to a cable which can plug into the card body, making it easy to read the POST codes. This should come standard for the price.
Needs a 5 volt PCI slot . Requires a 5 volt PCI slot, which rules out some newer systems (mine included). They should've made this a universal PCI card that could be used in either 3.3V or 5V slots.
OK product but rarely useful . I purchased this item to add to my tech toolbox hoping it would decrease the time to diagnose hardware issues. However I find that a rarely need it. All of the info I need is usually given through the bios beep codes. The times I tried to use it, it was had to see the codes on the LCD and they didn't make make sense once I rigged up a way to view them.
