Netgear (DS104NA) HUB 4-PORT 10/100MBPS COMPACT

This review is from : Netgear DS104 4-Port 10/100 Dual Speed Hub with Uplink Button
dependable solid inexpensive -- it doesn't get much better . I purchased this hub as part of a network starter kit (2 PCI ethernet cards + hub) and had no problems installing it. I run both Unix/Linux and Windoze machines and wanted all machines to be networked even with a mix of operating systems running at the same time -- and that meant simultaneous internet access, multi-player games, shared printers, etc. Basically, I wanted the network to do everything, so that any family member could sit down at a machine and do what they needed to do.The DS-104 hub delivered from the time I installed it until the day I replaced it with a router (RT-314, also from Netgear). Installation was a snap, and as soon as I turned it on, I never had a moment's trouble from the DS-104. So why did I switch? In two words, performance and price. Although the DS-104 is a fine product, its multiuser performance simply can't compare to a switch (which was built-in to the RT-314 router I replaced it with). I noticed that performance suffered when all of us wanted to use the computers simultaneously, which got me thinking about alternatives to improve performance. I initially intended to replace the DS-104 with a switch. After checking prices, I realized that I could actually purchase a router (switch + hardware firewall) for less than the cost of a switch alone. I eventually went that route, after receiving outstanding service from the DS-104 hub.So was this purchase a throw-away? Hardly. The DS-104 did what it promised to do, reliably and without fuss. It handles both 10 and 100 Mbps connections transparently, so you don't even need to know the speed of whatever you're connecting. It's well-constructed (metal case instead of plastic) and absolutely reliable. Although I've replaced the DS-104 with a router, I haven't gotten rid of it -- I'm saving it for the day when I need to add several machines to the network and I'm out of ports on my router. The DS-104 is solid, dependable networking at a very reasonable price. Recommended.
Netgear DS104 4-Port 10/100 Dual Speed Hub with Uplink Button Reviews
The thing just works! . I took this hub out of the box, plugged it in, connected it to our internal network and my two PC's about two months ago, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. All without reading the manual! This hub is perfect for me because I occasionally attach a legacy 10Mbps device and don't need more than three ports (other than to link to our existing network). One warning - if you have other Netgear hubs and equipment, keep the power supplies separate. I had a single-speed 100Mbps hub and got the power supplies mixed up. The unit looked like it was working but actually wasn't. The power supplies look similar, the plugs are the same, but I think the current and/or voltages are different.Other than that, this is a great product. As I said earlier, it just works. When you factor in price, you can't miss.
Netgear DS104 4-Port 10/100 Dual Speed Hub with Uplink Button Opinions
Perfect SOHO solution . For handling a Netgear router, two machines and a print server, this is the best option for the price. Price aside, a totally dependable product. I expect to see a lot more Netgear equipment in my home. Oh, and the case actually looks nice, unlike 3Com and most other manufacturers' boxes.
The simple solution for your simple network. . When I first began networking, I was a bit scared. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing, and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the equipment available to me. All I needed was a simple, inexpensive solution to bring three computers together on one internet connection, and I was utterly confused by everything on the shelves. I concluded that the Netgear DS-104 was the solution for me, and I'm happy to say that my intuition was right.Networking is notorious for giving administrators (And casual users for that matter) massive headaches. I can't say that my networking has been headache-free, but I can say that absolutely none of the headaches stemmed from this hub. It is an absolutely superb product that performs as well as it looks. It's reliable, it's durable... Absolutely everything you need for your simple network can be handled by this bad boy.If it helps any, the network this hub is functioning on is being served by a Windows 2000-operated machine, with various other computers sharing its resources, including one that's Linux-operated. I'm using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and the combination of the two has proven to be fast, simple and reliable. Nothing but the best.My only nitpick about the hub is that it can be loud. I know that's a rather strange thing to say about a device like this, but it's true. When I transfer large files in-between computers on the network, the little green traffic lights on the front of the hub flash with incredible speed... And for some reason you can hear it. It's similar to the high-pitched frequency your television emits when on mute, only it's pulsating at such a high rate that it almost hurts. If you're planning on using this hub for high local-traffic networks, I'm sure this would get pretty annoying... But for casual use in the home, it's not likely to be a problem.I'm still not as experienced with networking as I would like to be, so I can't offer any advice on whether a switch or a router would be more efficient for your needs... But I do know that this is an excellent solution for a simple network such as mine. It handles the traffic with ease, it's reliable, easy to install, and worry-free. I couldn't be happier with the way the hub has performed, and I'm positive you'll get the same results.
The Best for an xbox!!! . I hooked this up to my xbox so I could play system link up to 4 xboxs and 4 tvs of course. We played and it was the best time we. I had to get belkin ethernet cat5e cable so it would work right. Everything work fawless and it was a great Hub/Router for the price.
Switch to a Switch and skip the Hub Bub . I bought a ds-108 Netgear Hub it performed fine, I THOUGHT, when I looked closer it was not efficient in delivering the print jobs. The tech support from NetGear is FANTASTIC... and after talking to a few folks at Verizon, and the ISP I switched to a FS-108 switch. BIG difference. Really I can't see any reason to get a hub when you can get a switch. The cost difference is minimal but the performance difference is like comparing a candle to an electric light. Switch from the hub to a "SWITCH" Or continuing holding a candle to the electric light.
Simple and Reliable . I bought this hub a few months ago and it has been on ever since!Positive points:1. Idiot proof; very easy to install2. Consumes very little energy3. Dual speed4. Has LEDs to indicate whether the line is working5. Looks quite cool! (Metallic blue)Negative points:NoneHope this helped, Hil
Very Nice Unit Works Excellent Simple To Install . This is a great hub. Work well. This is part of my first network that I installed myself. I used all Netgear compnents and I am pleased with the simplicity of the installation. Just plug and go. I do recommend the Netgear FA310TX Nic's also.
When you need a hub instead of a switch . These days, there is almost never a reason to buy a hub... For most applications, everyone should be buying a switch.I just bought for of these for our lab, because nothing beats a hub for allowing you to sniff network traffic when debugging network software. For someone wanting a REAL hub, the DS104 is a real hub!
Excellent price and product . This is exactly what we needed to get my computer and printer online and working at the office.

Hawking 3 Parallel Port 10/100M Print Server HPS3P - Print server - parallel - EN, Fast EN - 10Base-T, 100Base-TX - 3 ports

This review is from : Hawking HPS3P 3 Parallel Port 10/100M Print Server
Linux users beware . I tried to config this on a Linux only net but couldn't do it. Had to get a friend with a Windows laptop to make it work. Turns out the problem is that the HPS3P can't reassemble packets when receiving a GET request with authentication (always lost the authorization and kept asking for a password). Hawking tech support was responsive until I pointed out their firmware was buggy. I had used a Hawking PN7337 until it died and it was much easier to setup on a Linux network.
Hawking HPS3P 3 Parallel Port 10/100M Print Server Reviews
Hawking Tech. 3 Paralell Port 10/100M Print Server . As technology moves on and old hardware (i.e. printers) remains functional, it is difficult to maintain certain types of equipment without a bridge between the old technology and the new technology. This Hawking Tech. Print Server fills that need beautifully. They are one of the few companies that manufacture a wired network device that can support my parallel port work-horse printers. The installation software is not for the squeamish, though. It can be a little difficult to navigate through as you are installing it on the multiple systems that will have access to the printers through the print server. Once fully installed onto the network, it works almost flawlessly. The only drawback that I have encountered is with my inkjet printer. The auto-on feature no longer works. I have to manually turn that printer on in order for it to print. If I forget to turn it on before sending a document to it, that's okay. The print server holds the document in queue until I manually turn it on. Oddly enough, I do not have the same problem with my laser jet (of the same manufacturer). I have purchased several of these print servers for other folks (i.e. friends and family) and been very satisfied with the results. I am not given to making recommendations on products, but this one was worth it.

Cons Review
Poor documentation then broke . The documentation that comes with this device does not explain correctly how to make it work. I tried calling support but gave up after being on hold for 20 minutes. E-mail support answered my first problem (software wouldn't install, answer was turn off firewall) in 24 hours. Once that was fixed I had another problem that was also answered (nothing would print, answer was to add as TCPIP port) in 24 hours. Why this information is not in the documentation is beyond me. I couldn't find it on their website either.

4 months after purchase, the thing is dead. No lights (although power supply still works). I'll never buy another product from this company.

This review is from : StarTech.com USB 2.0 To Audio Adapter
Works exactly as described - excellent value . At the time of my writing, there are only 2 other reviews; one who's worked perfectly and loved it and one who's didn't and hated it. I would have hesitated, therefore, to buy this for myself, but had seen a majority of very positive reviews for this product on Newegg (Amazon offered free super saver shipping when purchasing with another item, so I saved over $6 using Amazon!). Mine arrived, plugged in, works 100% and quality is perfect (complete silence when no audio is being played, as opposed to my built-in motherboard audio which was always static filled). No drivers needed, Windows 7 saw it and installed it. Excellent for Skype. Nothing else to say, a great product.
StarTech.com USB 2.0 To Audio Adapter Reviews
Do you want sound to come out of your computer? . This review will be sparse as my recall of the events surrounding the install of this sound card are few. I remember, vaguely, opening the packaging and maybe four seconds of pondering if I should install the driver cd (did it come with a cd?) before the movie I had playing started coming out of my speakers. Setup was 1-step, plug in (on Windows XP Home).

It has a microphone and a headphone/speaker port on front, is probably 3-4 inches long (does stick out a ways from the computer). I'm able to yank (yes, yank) headphones from it without pulling it out of the usb port (barely, just keep in mind).

I wanted something that was cheap and simple, this fits the bill. It came with a small usb extension (less thank 6 inches if I recall) and a cap (now in the trash). Sound quality is as good as original sound card (vostro 200 factory default) that I fried.
StarTech.com USB 2.0 To Audio Adapter Opinions
great work-around . When the sound on my laptop suddenly quit, I envisioned many $ to investigate and repair it. On a whim I Googled "USB audio" and up popped this item. It was the least expensive of a half-dozen or so similar items so I chose it, figuring that if it didn't do the job I wouldn't be out much. It arrived promptly and I plugged it into a USB slot, plugged my speakers into one of the two outlets and ...instant sound - and of high quality. I'm very pleased with it.
Works great even along with my regular speakers . I use this little device when I want to use my headphones late at night to edit music recordings I make. I have had no problems at all with this little device. Just plug it into any usb port and plug in a set of headphones BEFORE you open an application that will play a sound. That way it becomes the default device that application will use. Use your systems volume control to control the sound.
Works easily on a mac and has great sound!! . I bought this for my girlfriend who has a defective audio jack on her macbook. I carefully read all the reviews for similar items and noticed that everyone had problems with sound quality, (distortion, heavy bass, etc..). It seemed that this one, although having the fewest reviews, did not have any sound quality complaints. This product worked perfectly and the sound is absolutely perfect. If you looking for a USB audio jack, just get this one and save yourself the trouble of reading all the other reviews :-)
very good sound . The StarTech USB audio adaptor works fine on my Mac laptop. It was indeed plug and play. Although, I must add that the laptop was already familiar with another USB adaptor (Behringer). One suggestion though is to use an extension USB cable to move the aduio adaptor a little away from all the digital noise that the laptop can otherwise put onto the analog audio output lines.John Woods
Its nice . This is better that te previous usb car sound that I buy here on my country, its easy to use, install very fast, fastest that the other and better quality, Im happy cuz my audio port it doesnt work at all, so I need this and has a nother usb cable so I can conect another thing on my lap. hope it last more than the previous. the shipping was fast and I live on Honduras xD yeah!
Good . This adapter is the first external sound adapter I bought so I cannot say how good it is compared to other similar products. But my experience is OK. It's working well for windows7(though you have to struggle setting it up). You have to install one driver for each USB port. It doesn't work for linux, at least my distro(Ubunto 11), unfortunately. The sound quality is... better than nothing. So in general. When you need to buy a adapter, usually you have no choice, right?

Cons Review
Junk . Purchased from Antonline through Amazon, it did not work first time. Antonline refused to take back, their reason was I damaged the "package when opening to get the item out!! Also I downloaded the driver when it did not work to try and correct things, this was another reason they refused to replace. If and only if I could send the item back in perfect packaging so they could re-sell to some other unsuspecting person would they agree to replace it. What a rip-off, I asked them how a person could open the package without ANY damage and try to use the product. It came with a disc, but if you use it, they won't let you return the product. So why even send a disc?? Complete piece of JUNK from a craphole seller. Amazon did honor their warranty so I did get my money back, but the seller is at fault 100%
Mic didn't work for me . Works fine for just headphones, but the microphone doesn't work. However the circuit board ITSELF picks up sounds and vibrations.

Weird. Useless to me as I need the mic function as well.

Great picture and sound . The vulkano has great sound and picture especially when streaming from an hd source. I would've given it a 5 star rating were it not for the major flaw that it does not work properly with my cable box and as a result i can't change the channel remotely. If you are planning to purchase thid product i strongly reccomend figuring out the model number and brand of your cable box and contacting monsoon's customer support to see if the vulkano will be fully functional with your equipment. As for tiger direct i have literally been a customer of that company for 15 years they are the best in the biz!

NETGEAR PS110 - Print server - parallel - EN, Fast EN - 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, English

This review is from : Netgear PS110 10/100 Print Server with 2 Parallel Ports
It does what it is a two-port print server . It does what it is, a two-port print server. So far there is no print server has two-way communication. It uses the concept, "redirect", each computer needs to install the printer driver then redirect to the port. If the two-way communication is important to you, you need use a dedicated computer as print server. Only a dedicated computer is capable to know who sent the printing job and who should receive the message from printer (such as "out of paper", "ink low", etc). I bought this to avoid a dedicated computer being always on.About the setup, for sure it is not plug and play; however it is not that hard. First, you have to have NetBUEI protocol at the "Administrative" computer (it is not installed by default; but can be added on easily), then run its setup (FirstGear) with Administrative ability to configure the PS110, then you can assign the IP address for it. I'd like to use a fixed IP and not using the DHCP. For the other computer, ( a Mac or PC), you can just use TCP/IP protocol. For PC, run its setup as client computer (only need "Add Printer Wizard"), it will find and add two ports for the system, then just install your printer driver on the port.Once the PS110 is set, it remembers its setting. You may turn it off if you want. The netgear also provides firmware update at its web site. I am very happy with this print sever. If this print server provided web-based setup ( by just using browser with a specific IP), I would give it a five-star evaluation. If it also came with a build-in Ethernet switches/hub ( it is not), I would give it a six star.
Netgear PS110 10/100 Print Server with 2 Parallel Ports Reviews
Straight and simple . I just received this print server. I was a bit anxious about buying it because of somewhat negative reviews, especially regarding its setup problems. I was pleasantly surprised when I didn't have to do anything except make sure up front that my network connections work fine. I connected the printer to the print server, powered up the print server, and then put NetGear's installation CD into my PC. NetGear's software recognized the print server, so installation was almost flawless. The only glitch that I encountered was with setting up printers and installing print drivers. NetGear's installation software failed here, but I blame Windows 2000/Windows 95 and printer drivers' distributions for this. What worked for me was *not* to proceed with adding printers in the print server installation process (this step failed anyway), but rather add printers and their drivers later (or before) as local printers connected to the parallel port, then reassign printers' ports to the respective print server ports. Here is the procedure in a greater detail:- Install printer drivers after connecting printers, one at time, directly to the computer's parallel port and adding printers as local. This will allow Windows to detect new hardware and properly install the drivers.- Reconnect the printers back to the print server.- Using START->Settings->Printers in Windows, access printer properties and reassign printer port to the appropriate port on the print server. Windows should see the port as PS110/..., where ... is one of the two print server ports. For now I am quite happy with this purchase.
Netgear PS110 10/100 Print Server with 2 Parallel Ports Opinions
Great Product! No Problems! . I purchased this product about 1 month ago and abused the heck out of it. Print from detailed photo's to charts and displays to photosmart 1218 and a hp color lazer print. I don't have any back logs or transfer problems. Great product and highly recommended!
Good for Small Office . I bought this print server for my office so I could send print jobs from either of our networked workstations to either of our printers without having to worry about whether a particular workstation was on (or working!). Both machines are running NT4.0. I found the setup to be fairly straightforward -- just follow the direction in the booklet. To the other machines, the server basically looks like another computer with two attached printers which are shared. After the install, each workstation must run the installation program to configure the machine to use the print server. Each printer has a name which can be selected as the printer or default printer from a standard Windows print dialog. We have used the server for a month with no problems. Now I plan to get one for my house so I can print to printers from my laptop over a wireless LAN without leaving other machines on all the time. Apparently some of the reviewers did not check the manual on the CD to answer their problems, as I found full instructions to configure for Unix/Linux computers. Also, when the server has been set up, there is a web browser based administration utility. I didn't give the box 5 stars because there doesn't seem to be any way to remove a printer once it has been installed, other than to reset the box. If I could add another feature, I would include the capability to print using a USB connection from the print server to the printer.
Couldn't ask for Better . This server is simple to setup and get running. I works well with both my Linux and Windows systems, and can be setup by either. The best part about this print server is that it allows me to place my printer where it is convient for me, instead of right next to the computer (Which is inconvient). (LPT cables have a limit on the cable length.) I can print files from either my laptop or desk top system regardless of operating system. I would recommend this server to anyone who needs cross platform printing capability. I wonder what I ever did without it. Keep up the good work Netgear !!.
64K print buffer is inadequate for DOS capture printing . I have used the PS110 for SCO UNIX systems with netcat forseveral clients with complete satisfaction. Netcat makes aconnection to port 4010 or 4020 and sends data without errors. However, I have just recently (Dec 2002) placed a PS110 with aclient in a Win98 network to print from FoxPro 2.6 for DOS andhad to remove it as its 64K print buffer is too small for theFoxPro reports to be printed without error. NetGear's web site has a technical document indicating that theproper procedure is to capture the desired LPT port and directit to the print server as \\PSDXXXXX\P1 for parallel port1 or\\PSDXXXXX\P2 for paralle port 2. (PSDXXXXX is the hostname thatshows up when you browse network neighborhood)The PS110 that I delivered to the client had BIOS version 6024,while the Netgear web site listed 6017 as the latest availableBIOS that can be downloaded. The problem with buffer overflow on the PS110 using the Windowscapture setting appears to be a problem with Windows 98 and thetimeout Win98 appears to allow for captured print jobs to completely spool to the target host computer. If you use captureand send to a shared printer on another Win98 system, the file isspooled to the host win98 system in under a second. Sending thesame file to the PS110 takes over 20 seconds and results in anerror message indicating problems writing to the printer, and the remaining lines from the print job are lost or garbled. Testing using nc.exe (from Hobbit) to send from a DOS window under Win98 to port 4010 is sucessful and takes several minutesto print my 7-page test file.Netgear second level technical support admitted the problem andcould provide no solution as the 64k print buffer cannot be increased.
Works but not well with modern printers . The product does work as a basic printer/ network interface on Windows 98/ 2000. Install is a bit undocumented, as noted in another review - along with how to do it. However, if your printer communicates back to the PC with more than the 30-year-old wire signals for paper out, jam, etc. you're out of luck. For example, my Epson 860 works OK, but I can't see when ink is running low. This is a feature on most new printers and its absence is annoying.I did get one response from Netgear to the effect that they don't support two-way communication and they don't plan to.There is also no support for Linux, and I don't know the status for MAC OS-X. Since I use Linux this is an issue for me.I am now using simple network print servers that plug into the printer's parallel connector and let the printer act as a standard network citizen. That way all the boxes on my network can use the 'standard' network printer. Cost was about $80 each for the little print 'servers'. I found them at a computer show. D-Link has one now for about $90. I suggest this is a standards-compliant way to avoid problems. Or just buy your printer 'Network Ready' if the option is available. It's about the same cost.

Cons Review
Instructions don't mention XP. Neither does their web site. . The instructions don't mention Windows XP. The web site mentions it, barely, but wihhout instructions. I wasted an hour trying to do it myself, then an hour with tech support. Finally got it working, but only because I know about IP addresses, network configuration, etc. I imagine it would be easy to setup if they bothered to provide instructions for WIndows XP, and it may be easy with older versions of Windows. But XP users should stay away. And wonder why NetGear can't provide any attempt at instructions a year after XP's release.Once I got it working, it works fine. The only hassle was setting it up.
Beware - incorrect Amazon.com documentation . Beware: The Amazon.com documentations is wrong as it states that this is a print server and has an integrated network hub. However, it is NOT a hub so do not buy it if you need a integrated hub/print server as I did. If you look at the Netgear website, it correctly states that this product can connect to a hub...
Highly frustrating little blue box. . Let me get this off my chest first: I like Netgear products a lot. I also see that other reviewers seem to like this printserver, so take their experiences into consideration as well.I have experienced many irritating problems with this printserver since buying it. Printing complex PDF files to my laser printer is a lost cause- three or four pages will print and then I'll get an error. After this happens the print server locks up and needs a reboot (often my computer also needs a reboot to print again- I think there might be a problem with their printer driver as well). I've called tech support and tried replacement units to no avail. I am inspired to write this review because of a problem I'm currently having- I just tried printing a simple document from WordPad and the printer driver insists there is another job waiting on the printer (there isn't). My overall recommendation is to buy Netgear products but avoid this printserver.

This review is from : ZyXEL NWD270N Wireless-N USB Adapter
Works as Advertised Support is A+ . This unit works exactly as advertised, easy to set up and keeps a solid connection on my XP machine. Note that it is not a full N speed adapter; its only rated for 150Mbps. Mine constantly runs at 135Mbps. I am running a ZyXEL router and they play very well together. Tech support is insanely responsive. Rarely have I been able to call a hardware company and talk to a knowledgeable, helpful human after just a couple of minutes.
ZyXEL NWD270N Wireless-N USB Adapter Reviews
Works with Western Digital Live box after Nov-2010 update . Basically I just wanted people to know that this works as a network dongle for the WD Live box. IMO the box was very particular as to getting a usb wireless adapter to work with it. I could not get any to work with it, including this one. But after a new WD firmware update in Nov, 2010 it now works. Which means you can be on your network and shove files around, copy them, or stream movies. I'm now updating my wireless router to N speed. We'll see if I can stream HD without glitching.
ZyXEL NWD270N Wireless-N USB Adapter Opinions
Pretty good . After 2 months that I brought this product stop to work.I reload the software and evertyhing worked well again. With the older wireless USB adapter I never had a problem.

Cons Review
Doesn't quite work in Ubuntu . Looks like rt2870 chipset - after putting firmware in rt2870.bin, it does load, but isn't working. (With Ubuntu 9.10) Oh well - took a chance and lost. Placing review so folks know that it will not work with Linux. Found the AirLink101 AWLL6075, which is smaller, and worked on my same Linux config.

No Mac Support . I purchased this because of the claim of Mac support. Their is not mention of Macs in the included documentation. It only comes with Windows drivers. I have scoured the internet looking for Mac drivers and they do not exist. If you have a Mac do not buy!

DUOLINKS SW24 VPN ROUTER DUAL WAN

This review is from : Duolinks SW24 Vpn Router Dual Wan
What a router should be! . Our local ISP (Verizon) requires PPPoE routers that can specify the DNS to use, otherwise one gets a horrid deluge of advertising instead of a "page not found" message. One also loses a chance to edit the mistyped URL address. My SMC router allows only dynamic DNSs so I started hunting for a new VPN router.

Cisco was friendly, but didn't know their router and the promise to call back within a week never materialized. Other vendors didn't know, didn't care, or didn't speak English. Syswan, on the other hand, promptly emailed a thoughtful response and even followed up with a screen capture to further prove their router could do PPPoE with user specified DNSs -- impressive to say the least.

But getting the Syswan SW24 VPN router in hand was the most impressive of all.

First of all, the thing has real heft and is in a solid metal case. It even has wall/shelf mounting brackets if the weight alone isn't enough to keep the cables from wagging the router. No light weight plastic.

Secondly, it installed on my network (Windoze server, Linux server, three print servers and 8 workstations) in 12 minutes -- including a miscue when I forgot to release my previous IP leases (run/cmd and executing "ipconfig /release" followed by executing "ipconfig /renew" -- or just reboot).

Thirdly, the layout of the connections and front panel is logical. No connections on the sides or front. Reasonable spacing between connectors. I can tell what's going on from a distance because the front panel LEDs are well spaced (not bunched together).

Fourthly, the configuration and control interface is clear and rational. It doesn't treat me like an idiot, expect me to be a scholar in transliterated Sanskrit, or sneer at me like a Unix sophmore. This router is full featured and willing to give you as little or as much access to the features as you are comfortable with.

The router looks & feels well made, it acts like a premium router, it is a delight to configure, the manufacturer is responsive and knowledgeable, and installation was effortless -- I can't ask for more.

Oh yes, no sweat if you only have one internet service connection (WAN). This router works fine with just one ISP connection -- and you're ready for when you need more bandwidth and a second connection.
Duolinks SW24 Vpn Router Dual Wan Reviews
Great dual-homed router; fantastic customer support . This does exactly what it claims to do, and does it well. I have two internet connections, and this lets me use the combined bandwidth reliably. The firmware is difficult to work with, but it's well organized and I can't really see how it can be improved given all the very granular options that are available. The VPN connection works very well, but you do have to purchase the client after the trial period is over. Fortunately, it's not expensive.

When I ran into a problem with advanced configurations, it took me no time at all to get a technical support person on the line. Better yet, they didn't stick me with some first-level tech. Instead, they connected me directly with someone that knew *everything* about the router and the most recent version of the firmware. They walked me through the advanced options, and even offered to log in remotely when I couldn't solve the problem myself. When all was said and done, they spent a couple of hours on the phone with me and were amazingly patient the entire time. They even followed up to make sure it was working properly. I wish more companies offered this level of support. If you're looking for a dual-homed router, this is the one!
Duolinks SW24 Vpn Router Dual Wan Opinions
So far so good . I purchased this product to share my two broadband services on one network. The setup was fairly easy, the LED setup is useful to trouble shoot any problems, the documentation is pretty detailed. It offers a secure web access for its setup although the security certificate can be annoying for your browser a bit.

This equipment was basically used within a small office environment. No reboots or any fine tuning have been necessary after the first 2 weeks of operation so far. The performance has been steady after several GBs of data transfers and millions of connections, the load balancing have been functioning as you would expect...

There could be some minor issues for very advance users with complicated networking needs, but so far, I connected a GB switch, a network printer and a VOIP modem to its LAN ports and already forgot about it...
Dual Internet Connections is great! . My Comcast connections is fast but unstable. I have lost my connection several times a day for weeks and Comcast can't seem to fix it. When Comcast is working, the speed is great. I finally took matters into my own hands with this dual WAN router. I added Qwest DSL to the mix which seems to be very stable but not that fast. Linking them together with the SW24 solved my problem. When Comcast is up and working my internet traffic routes the fast way. When Comcast is down, my internet traffic routes the stable direction. If you need a very reliable internet connection, this is an excellent way to go.
Even Better Than I'd Hoped For . I was already planning to give the SYSWAN Duolinks SW24 VPN an excellent review. The thing works and works damned well. It has a huge number of configuration options (almost all of which work just fine in their default modes). And once I got the device configured correctly for my somewhat unique situation (one of my two internet connections goes down a lot, sometimes hundreds of times a day), the SW24 handled switching WANs better and faster than I could have hoped.

Then I ran into a small issue involving the SW24's ability to send eMail Alerts to me. I eMailed SYSWAN's support department with my questions and a human being responded within one day! Their response included a polite and friendly explanation of how I was misunderstanding one aspect of the eMail Alert system's functionality. Plus they provided advice and suggestions for making the eMail Alert system work with my specific hosting service. I didn't even think to tell them who hosts my eMail service; I simply provided them with the eMail address I was using and they took the initiative to look it up and discover that I was hosting my eMail on GoDaddy. I am blown away!

If I have any complaint at all it is only that I wish they provided a way to get a deeper understanding of how the various SW24 options work and how they might interact with other settings in the device. An online knowledgebase would probably be ideal for this.

All in all I can't recommend the SYSWAN Duolinks SW24 VPN highly enough.
Great product ! . Simple to setup, easy to use, excellent performance, wonderful customer service. I am a satisfied customer! Go ahead, just buy this one; you will be glad you did.
It doesn't get any better than this . If you need to connect two wan's together it really doesn't get any better than this. The product is well built, the interface has tons of options and the technical support is amazing.Frankly, it's the support that puts it over the top. Email them with an issue and get quick, educated replies to your specific problem. I wish this company had more products we could use.
Dual WAN load balancing router . We had so many network problems we decided to get a second Internet connection. The Syswan Duolinks SW24 VPN router had few reviews and was a relatively unknown product, but we took a chance anyway. That's partly because the price was so attractive. Once it arrived I was really impressed. It took only a couple minutes and we were live, with a load balanced network connection.
After a few days we noticed the router was rebooting very often. I called technical support and they helped diagnose the problem. It had nothing to do with the router, and we were back up and running quickly. We've been running without a single problem for about 3 months now.
Enterprise grade function at home office price . I work for a widely and internationally geographically diverse company. In fact, of the entire group of engineers that report to me, only one actually goes to a company office each day with the rest of us (including myself) working from home offices unless at meetings on customer premises. As such we need reliable network connection. My cable ISP is very fast but typically will drop anywhere from 1 to several times a week with outages between a few seconds to a few minutes. Upon calling for resolution, one gets the standard "we'll have to send a technician out" even while it is clear that the problem lies in the CO and each time all at the remote end tests out just fine. This, however, is not acceptable when one requires this connection for one's livelihood.

I started by ordering a DSL line as a backup then began researching failover routers to automate recovery and keep outage to a minimum. While it would certainly have been possible to, upon outage of the cable ISP, connect the DSL to my router, many times, the cable may have been back up again by the time I would get the DSL up. Sometimes, when in the middle of important con calls or other methods of exchange, these minutes may have been rather important. After extensive research I found this device and I could not be happier.

When one digs into this device, for just a little over $200, one gets Enterprise IT grade functionality that would typically sell well North of $1k. It's not perfect but for a home office where not a faultless connection, but rather seriously consistent connectivity is required, it's just the ticket. Setup and configuration was quite smooth assuming one has some experience of how to configure routers and now that it is settled in and running, if one connection drops, other than seeing any IM client or Skype drop and reconnect if its session was on the failed WAN link or a call that was established on the failed WAN link dropping, one never sees it. The only noticeable change is that the connection is a little slower given that the DSL is quite a lot slower and I am load balancing. Even at that, if one isn't doing anything that directly, from a user experience, shows a degradation in performance, it may not even be noticed.

Overall, an astounding device especially considering the price of it.

Cons Review
Product fair Support the worst . I ordered this porduct based on the reviews.
The configuration interface is horrible!!
The VPN does not work!!
The Support is the WORST!!!!!!!
I have been in IT for over 20 years and have configured many failover products and this is by far the worst.
Save your money.

USB2.0 Adapter - USB 2.0 - Wireless

This review is from : MSI Wireless-LAN USB 2.0 Adapter
Better then Original n . I have purchased two of these. The first one was to upgrade my g connection on my laptop. But my wife was having recurring intermittent troubles with her Dell desktop purchased with an n connection. After a brief trial with my MSI Wireless-LAN USB 2.0 Adapter on her machine, it didn't take much to convince her we should purchase one for her also. Haven't had any problems since. By the way, we both run xp.
Cheap wireless solution . Needed to connect a Dell desktop to a wireless network. XP plug and play installed the device. Connected to my access point immediately.
Worked and installed easy. . Worked fine out of the box, N series connected and plays well with
other brands.
MSI Wireless-LAN USB 2.0 Adapter Reviews
Great product for the price if you are running Win 7 . I was looking for an affordable wireless adapter for my PC. I had built couple of PCs with MSI mother boards and the process was very smooth. I saw this product and ordered on Amazon. After recieving I tried on different PCs and here is the result:
1. On Windows7 the installation, updating the driver etc...was a breeze.Just plugged it to the USB port, Widows detected the new hardware. I updated the driver on line and we were up and running in few minutes.
2. On Windows XP Pro I had to install the drivers and the network management program that comes on a CD. There is a coflict between the software and Windows networking configuration tools. So I needed to make a choice as to which program to use to connect to my wireless access point.Once I did I was up and running.
3. On Ubuntu 9.10/Linux. (I am a newbee) I have not been able to connect. I have spent many hours trying to configure the system but no go so far...I dont believe the product is supported for Linux. MSI's customer service was very responsive in contacting me and helping out.
I definately recommend this product specially if you have migrated to Win7.
MSI Wireless-LAN USB 2.0 Adapter Opinions

Adapter is under powered . I love this little mat, BUT. The adapter they provide to power the mat only puts out 400Ma (milli amps). Split that between 4 devices and each is only charging at 100Ma. That's not enough to charge anything that I know of. My wall adapter for my EVO is 1000Ma (I think). I found an old wall adapter with higher Ma and works beautifully.

I love the short little cables, wish I knew how to get a few more.

Over all if they included a higher powered adapter this would be a perfect 5 star in my book.
Roll & Go Flexible USB Charging Station Reviews
good not great . I bought this product to help organize my desk and for travel. The mini-usb doesn't work on my phone. More of a problem with Motorola's exclusivity software I guess. The provided connection doesn't work on my I-Pod Touch either. I can't get it to fit because I have a cover on it. The connector that came with my I-Pod does work with it. Therefore, not able to downsize as much as I would like, but still workable and I still use it.
Roll & Go Flexible USB Charging Station Opinions
It's okay kind of nice to have everything in one place . I really wanted one spot for all of our cell phones and Ipods and cameras... and this mat is a nice little spot. But, it doesn't really charge anything all the way. I'm not sure why but at least it charges things somewhat. I will probably only use this when we travel now, just to have everything we need in one place. It's okay for the price, just not great.
Handy Charging Mat . This convenient charging mat does what it advertises. And, the nice thing is that it doesn't take up much room in your suitcase or laptop case. It comes with 3 USB cords (mini USB, Micro USB, iPhone/iPad). The USB cord for the iPhone/iPad adequately charges the iPhone but did not charge our iPad (version 1) which is a bug in the iPad itself.

This product is a good value for its cost.

Cons Review
To late to return . Very cheap product. I cannot recommend this as 1) it does not come with multiple connectors in the kit, 2) nor does it offer adding on additional connectors. However, the good news, is you can use your own cables. It does work with Blackberry, Iphone and iPods. Just plan on using your own cables as the ones provided were flimsy and broke or would not work out of the box. Would recommend you spend a little more on better made product.

4 x 10/100Base-TX LAN, 1 x 10/100Base-TX WAN - Broadband Router

This review is from : ZyXEL Home Firewall Router With 4 Port 10/100 Fast Ethenet Switch
If you don't need VPN this is the router/firewall to buy! . ZyXEL makes a full line of VPN firewalls that go by the name ZyWALL, and are generally considered the best products out there for the SOHO and small business market that needs VPN (Virtual Private Network) communication with remote offices or individuals. The Prestige 324 is a full SPI firewall with a 4-port switch that provides virtually everything that their ZyWALL product line does, only without the VPN circuitry. As a result, it is perfectly suited to most home users that want industrial-strength security for their always-on DSL or cable connections. It supports X-Box, Instant Messenger, UPnP, and virtually every Internet game out there. If you want to, it also provides all the settings that you will need to set up servers, web sites, etc.The firmware that controls the product is taken directly from their enterprise level products. Because of this, it is subjected to a level of testing and evaluation by networking professionals that no consumer product would ever get. As such, the product has evolved to be virtually "bullet-proof".I've used, tested and discarded every competitive product that I could find while searching for one that actually did what the marketing people said it would, but there was always some fatal flaw. The search ended when I met with some networking professionals. They unanimously suggested that I leave the department store brands and get into a professional product, especially since it was actually less expensive than most of the consumer-quality products. Finally, it looks great too -- it's not just an old tin box that is better suited to a laboratory than a home. All-in-all, this is a winner!Amazon.com seems to carry the product on an inconsistant basis, but when it's available, their price is generally the best around, if you get the free shipping. I have a few friends and relatives waiting for it to come back into stock so that they can order one for themselves.
ZyXEL Home Firewall Router With 4 Port 10/100 Fast Ethenet Switch Reviews
Zyxtel Router . I had some problems getting it to communicate with our cable modem at first. Had to reboot the modem to get everything working, but it has been working fine since then except when I made a setting change on the router, I had to reboot it to regain modem communication. As long as I leave it alone, it seems reliable. The router it replaced kept losing the broadband connection. LAN connections have been flawless.

Cons Review
Dial Backup Completely Useless . I purchased this product specifically for use in a situation wherein a dial-up connection must be shared (but not simultaneously) between two workstations. I had tried various other products, but most were too basic and did not allow the configuration needed.

The dial backup is, from what I can tell, completely useless on this device. I tried three different modems, and all achieved high connections speeds. For some bizarre reason, though, this device limited all dial-up traffic to atrocious speeds. Transfer speeds with this device never exceeded 1.5Kb/sec while the same modem connected to one of the other basic routers was consistently over 5Kb/sec.

It seems that the dial backup on devices like this is really just an afterthought which they never expect anyone to use and which they never optimize or even verify.

Feature ZyXEL Home Firewall Router With 4 Port 10/100 Fast Ethenet Switch

  • Allows multiple users to share a single ISP account
  • Serves as a DHCP server on the LAN to provide IP addresses to local computers
  • Secured Firewall protection
  • Traffic redirect and dial backup for broadband backup connections

Asante FR3004 Friendly Net Cable/DSL Router

Fine Product Having set up similar products before, performance, features, and company reputation were priorities for me more than easy setup. This product has performed very well for me. The built in 4-port switch handles a home office network very nicely, and this router has the other features that I was looking for.The easy setup though was impressive from my point of view. This is the only product I have personally seen that does not require you to enter any numbers to get a PC to talk to it. You do have to select the appropriate network settings and reboot your computer, but that is all. The router provides you with a simple and clear Web-based interface to complete the setup. The documentation is also clear and to the point. Overall I can highly recommend this product.Asante has a very good reputation for technical support. For a product like this that is somewhat technical, good technical support is worth a lot to anyone who values their time at all.My experience with a couple of phone calls confirmed this for me, and this leads me to the only reason I did not feel justified in rating this product with 5 stars:Normal setup of the Asante FR3004 should work fine for the great majority of users, for Web browsing, email, and other online activities. My use as a software developer involves keeping sessions with remote computers open for extended periods, and the Asante FR3004 with firmware as of October 2000 closes connections after 2 hours. I was able to work around this limitation, but the workaround may not be available to every user.
Asante does it again. This Router/Firewall with a 4 port switch is fantastic. Fast, easy to setup and really provides the security needed today on the internet. I setup a MAC-PC LAN sharing one IP address and a HP LaserJet printer. It was almost plug and play, as it usually is with Asante products-Good job again! The only thing better than their products is there toll-free really good Tech Support.
Excellent Product I am an experienced PC user but I am not a network geek. I connected my 2 PC's to DSL in a matter of minutes. It took me more time to plug it into power and connect the cables than it did to get it running. I was able to share my files, printer, and my DSL (PPPoE) internet almost immediately. I was really impressed with its easy Web interface. The hardest part is probably knowing what protocol you're running, which is one of five choices and isn't really that hard to figure out. Don't forget you'll need at least one additional network cable to connect your network-ready PC. They don't come with the product.
Flawless Here with Road Runner I use this router with my Road Runner Cable connection and it works flawlessly. I have been using it for over a year with no problems. The setup was very easy with my provider in the list of available providers, so it knew about my DHCP settings already and just configured them for me. In a year my cable has gone out a few times and this router simply needs a reboot to reset the connection, this happened only twice during long outages of my cable service. I had many problems with a Linksys prior to using this one.
Sweet & Easy! FriendlyNET FR3004, what a gem! I have literally no experience with routers. I am a handicapped person with limited mobility. My point being, I had my PC and my MAC sharing the same cable modem and updated the firmware within a half an hour. Friendly, that does not begin to describe this little gem. Frankly, I was intimidated upon ordering the router. All my apprehensions disappeared within minutes. As for performance, it is just wonderful, no degradation in connection or speed lose accessing the internet at the same time. I could not be happier with the item and recommend it to all my friends that have more than one computer that use DSL/Cable Modem.
Quick and Easy Ok i timed this one, it was exactly 12 mins and 37 secs from pulling the router out of the box until i had 3 Macs using the same internet connection. If you are using a mac this is the router for you. As i said i have 3 macs using different OS's using it (OSX, 9.1, and 8.6). Asante even releases their Firmware updates in a format that Macs can read, so updating the Router is a snap. The manual is set up in an easy to read step by step manner. I have actually seen better d/l rates on my DP 1GHz G4 since using this router, though im really not sure why. Get this product!!!
Tremendous product This product is VERY easy to use. 3 steps. Also has a wonderful printer server. I liked the one I bought for the office so much I'm getting one for my home, even though we can't get DSL yet. I want to be ready. They have tremendous technical support. I did not have to wait in que. I had one question because I was trying to make installation to hard, anticipating trouble I never had because I was unable to believe it was that easy. The guy at customer support told me to be SURE to call him back if I had any trouble, and seemed to genuinely care that my installation was successful.I had never heard of this company before, but I hope they succeed.
FR3400LC Simple printer set up! I ditto all the other comments about ease of use and ease of setup. I bought the FR3400LC, with the print server and modem port, and I found it very simple to set up my 10-Base-T printer for a Mac and PC. Before getting the router, I had the printer connected to a hub. My Mac found the printer easily, but no such luck for the PC. Now, I have the printer hooked up by a 10-Base-T connection to the Mac, and by parallel cable to the print server port for the PC. Prints fine from both machines! Only one caveat, if you're setting up the router on a cable modem, make sure you obtain the FULL name of the cable company mail server. The simple "mail" that I used previously for my Cox@Home connection did not connect.
Pretty easy installation We connected 2 computers with this router. The computer with Windows ME was a snap. However the one with W95 took longer. It seemed that W95 had some files missing, so we had to call Microsoft for help. Both machines work great. It is easy to connect and the instructions are good. Actually my 15 yr. old son did all the work once the cable came into the house.
So easy to set up! This is an awesome product. I basically open the box, hooked up the network and did a web based configuration. Everything is ready to go in less than 15 minutes. Very cool! No problem with games either.

TP-Link TL-SG2109WEB 9-Port Gigabit Web Smart Switch. The TP-LINK TL-SG2109WEB is a web smart switch with 8 10/100/1000Mbps ports and 1 SFP slot supporting Mini GBIC modules.

This review is from : TP-Link TL-SG2109WEB 9-Port Gigabit Web Smart Switch
TP-Link 8-port gig TG2109 WEB switch is purdy good. . Used this in a situation where there wasn't much space and subject to possible heat and cold conditions (outdoors, lightly sheltered). This is a really capable switch. I can create vlans, use vlan tagging to carry the vlan'd traffic over fiber to another TG2109WEB. I can label the ports so that I can see what's what in the webGUI. The TP-Link single mode fiber module was only $49 which is the lowest I've ever seen for single mode. It's fanless, which makes it dead silent, which would be perfect in a conference room environment or other situation where silence is golden. You can monitor stats, you can control access via MAC, you can rate limit individual ports, etc. There are a ton of features in this switch, unheard of at this price.Inside, it's a Marvell chipset. Marvell drives much more expensive switches, such as some of the Dell PowerConnect series. It would be fun to figure out if you could actually load another manufacturer's firmware on this, but I'm not in the mood to brick it. Besides, I'm pretty happy with the feature set I have. Only reason I would do that would be to see if I could get RADIUS port authentication. What else can I say? You can't go wrong at this price, or even higher.
