A great little convenience . If your desk is as crowded as mine, and the back of your computer as inaccessible, this is for you. This nifty little four-port hub drops into any unused 3.5 inch floppy drive bay on the front of your system and, viola, USB 2.0 available just for the plugging. As an added convenience, an LED glows green when connection is established. Four stars rather than two because it must connect through the computer enclosure and out again to one of the USB ports on the back of your machine, effectively robbing you of one of those. I would have given it five stars if it had had a motherboard connector. By the way, when they are talking high speed, they aren't kidding; the hub supports the fastest version of USB available.

Don't Buy . This does what it's suppose to do. It would be a better product if they offered it with a USB header for the motherboard rather than a cable coming out the back of the computer and taking up a USB port in the back. Also, they should include an adapter for use in a 5 1/4" bay.

Update: I tried to get this to work in my machine without any success. I think the unit was defective but it wasn't worth my time to send it back. Very cheaply made. I would not recommend this to anyone. I'd drop my review to 1 star if possible.

Great Expansion . Works great, was very easy to install and fit perfectly within my old floppy drive bay. I can't think of one complaint. Thanks for a great product.

Great Product . Can't be more simple. Plug it up, and it's ready to go. Very light in weight, I suggest using an adhesive sticky pad for mounting if it's not going to be mobile. I got it stuck to my tower, and it looks pretty cool. Cause cool people like us Amazon shoppers should only have the coolest products.

Cons Review

Beware of self-powered hub . I bought this a few months ago and it works great on things like flash drive and even plugging your Ipod or your PDA. But when it comes to power hungry devices, do NOT use this product because it will fail. I'll give you an example. I have the Magic Jack that plugs into your USB port. However, when I plug it in to this device, it doesn't work. I also have an external hard drive that cannot be plugged into this device. So basically, buy it at your own risk. Definitely know what you'll be plugging into this thing.

Poor quality unreliable . I bought 4 of these for all our computers about a year and a half ago. The last of them just gave up the ghost this morning, so I am posting this review. The others, incidentally, lasted anywhere from a matter of days to a few months.

It is clear they are poorly made. The male end of a peripheral USB devices is a loose fit in the female ports of the Frisby, and the ports themselves are too shallow to accept the full length of the male plug. However, just wiggling the plugs doesn't improve the contact, and all four of the ports fail at once--so I suspect it's an internal circuitry issue.

Whatever the reason, these hubs are amazingly unreliable. Stay away from them.

heh I loved it . its like you can't go wrong with Ethernet Cards... I have an old Pentium 75 that I like to toy around with... its running DOS with windows 3.1 and I wanted it to be part of the network... With this card I was worried I wasn't going to find DOS drivers for it but I did. That old Pentium 75 is part of the network and I love it.

Worked but... . It works although higher speed is desired...

The mini CD shipped with the product is not right one for the Windows version I selected. It took a lots of researches for me to finally figure out that I could download the software from RealTek which is not a very well supported site either. You have to be pretty good with computer stuff to work this one out.

Great card for a great price! . if you want to get on board with wifi, this is a great way to do it. as another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't come w/ an external antenna (btw, it also doesn't say that it does, go back and read the description) but has a jack for an external antenna if you wish to purchase one separately (in case you want to connect to networks that are very far away). the card works great, very reliable. word of advice, like any piece of hardware you install, check the manufacturers website for updated drivers and client manager software as the version in the box tends to be a little old (though fully functional).

Fast and Reliable Wireless 54G . This is a nice little wireless card for a notebook computer. It installs quickly and easily, and worked perfectly the first time. It hooked up with my 802.11b home network beautifully, and I've used it successfully at several (b) wi-fi hotspots.The drawbacks are all in the software. I thought the software interface was kind of clunky, and I had a lot of trouble getting it to successfully use WEP encryption on my home network, although my Linksys wireless (USB) unit worked perfectly with the encryption.Overall, though, delivering wireless this quickly and easily (and portably) is a great effort. I'm very pleased. Plus, the 54g is lightning fast if you can find a 54g hotspot to connect to. But I'm guessing it won't be long until that's the norm, so this card is a choice that offers a lot of versatility going forward. Four stars for the ease and reliability...only wish the software was a little better.

Solid 54g performance; Airport software crashes though . Hi: i bought the Buffalo card because it uses the same Broadcomm Airforce chipset as the Apple Extreme airport card.

This makes it so using it with a Powerbook just works with the software.

I've used it with a dozen base-stations, all types of connections and find it
a great performer. (...)

My only complaint: if you pop the pc-card out without turning off the airport software or putting the powerbook to sleep, it crashes into some weird command line thing that asks for a debugger.

Oh well, then don't do that!

It's decent... . Good:
*When it's getting a signal it's fast
*Has an external antenna connection (MC-style jack)

*Didn't fair much better at finding signals than my built-in wireless adapter on my Compaq laptop which is more than a little disappointing

Overall it's a good card. If you are close to the router or hub this card is really fast. However, I was expecting it's range to be much better than my laptop's built-in wireless adapter, which it wasn't. I was also having installation issues, but it had nothing to do w/ the Buffalo card -- I had to disable my built-in adapter in order to get the Buffalo card working.

Incredible! . This Card is recognized by Apple Macintosh computers as being an Airport card, meaning no drivers are necessary!. Definately a good alternative to the $80 apple product!<br />

Works But...... . This card was hard to get up and running. I have a Toshiba laptop with integrated wireless SuperG. I tried disabling and even uninstalling the integrated wireless in order to get this thing working, and still had a heck of a time. Just a fluke that I finally did get it to run and now I am worried that everytime I fire up the notebook, I will have the same problem. The instructions and software included are not much help for those who are not tech savy. Difficult to get associated with my home network running a Netgear AP with WEP also. I will try the antenna jack soon but anticipate nothing extraordinary from this card. Wishing you better luck than I had with this thing.

Contrary to the description on this web page (as of 5/23/2003 1400EDT) this product includes only the Buffalo AirStation WLI-CB-G54A variant of the wireless LAN CardBus card with an external antenna interface. No Indoor Omni Antenna is included in the package, only the CardBus card itself. The description on the confirming email I received from TechDepot has the exact same wording, but a call to TechDepot customer support confirmed that the description is, apparently, incorrect. The wording on the Packing List uses the description AirStation 54Mbps WLS CBUS Card w/Ext Ant I/F (I/F=Interface I assume).So, I rate the product only a three. I have used the WLI-CB-G54 (not the 'A' model) and have been very satisfied with it. I downgrade it here only because of the product description is incorrect. I expected to get the card and the indoor omni antenna.

don't buy this . Was looking for card w/ext antenna but this software was very incompatible with Windows XP and caused huge problems. Their tech support was clueless, and took their advice to uninstall. Bought an Orinoco Gold card works perfectly.

ncomputing L230: a very good product . It is a very good product, easy to set-up, and works perfectly, except for the two issues noted below. My idea was to get this product to clone my PC in different rooms in the home, as a cheaper and easier solution than to buy another PC or laptop. Thus, it is not for professional use. I did it on my e-machine T6524 with Windows XP SP3. I found two issues: (1) once installed the software does not allow to choose the sleep mode in Windows OS. Thus, the computer has to be turned off and on each time, if you do not want it to be on all the time. I found this very unconvenient because, when I am done using the computer, I usually hit the "sleep" key. I can come back in 30 minutes, or 3 hours, or the next day, click the mouse and the computer is up and running in seconds. Thus, the sleep mode prevents the computer from booting up completely everyday and thus saves the hard drive from grinding each time to load the entire OS. (2) Graphics are not optimum. Videos (e.g. in you tube) are not smooth, and even Picassa does not work with the full resolution. When launching Picassa, a dialog box appears to indicate that the user is in remote desktop mode and ask for a choice of high speed/low resolution versus low speed/high resolution. Thus, mainly because of reason (1) I had to uninstall the L230 from my main computer. I am not using the L230 at the moment. In the meantime, I bought my wife a very good laptop for $300 (Windows7, webcam, DualCore), which is is a better solution and less of a headache. Other than that, the L230 is a very good product, and I recommend it.

Cons Review

Careful using this don't let the sales people trick you . This product is ok or sub-par and really only works for small and specific types of implementations. Given this is their "network" version do not think it will work in a datacenter to desktop environment like your standard VMWare or Citrix solutions. In order for this "network" product to work effectively you need to make sure that your server and devices are plugged into the same switch with zero to a very small number of network hops. Unless you plan on having this type of solution all in one room (which most people view as being insecure and a pain to manage), look to spend the money on a more advanced thin client solution to make your life easier.

Not user friendly confusing interface . I bought this product to be able to sync my Palm Pilot with my laptop, and I have not been able to get it to work.

I don't think the product is defective, because it seems to pick up on the fact that there is a device. The problem might even lie with my Palm Pilot. But I couldn't give it a good rating if it didn't do what I bought it for. And the instructions that came with the device were so minimal that I was disappointed.

No Problems at All . I installed the product on a laptop that I am using as a server on my home gigabit network, though I noticed it works just as well on any other type of network. Speed change in the wrong direction . I have a Dell Inspiron 500M and I am looking for a dramatic increase in LAN speed, mainly for backup and replication purposes. I was hoping for 10 times faster (100MB to 1GB), but got 10 times slower.

As other reviewers are having the same problem with other cards I wonder if there are limitations in the notebook or Cardbus architectures. My past experience with D-Link products have been generally good.

Great product exceeded my expectations . I bought this wireless G card because my Gateway lap-top has a lousy internal antennae and cannot hold a faint wireless signal. I literally installed the driver in 5 minutes or less and had the wirelss G card in the slot detecting available wireless networks. It converted the faint signal that my laptop's antennae would not & could not hold into an 89% signal. THIS particluar card is way, way better that the regular linksys card. DO NOT GET THE REGULAR CARD, VERY MEDIOCRE. This one with the MIMO technology rocks. I'm very happy, beats getting a mobile broadband 2 year service agreement!

OK but... . It appeared to have been opened already out of the box. It works, but I get a lot of error messages and cannot figure out how to download a new driver.

Wireless G PC Card . My husband was able to install this product and we are using it at our home. We do have some issues once in a while with how long it takes to connect but that is workable. We are thankful it works in our location and would recommend it to others.

Works great/easy to use . I use this laptop card to connect to WIFI hotspots and it works better than my Netgear range-plus card. It gives a stronger signal and seems to work better at longer range. Definitely reccommends this card. Price is good too.

Had to return for a new type n router . There was no problem with the product. I needed an "N" type router so I returned with no trouble.

I don't know what was wrong with the other reviewer, but I had ZERO problems installing this card.Opened my case, installed the card, Windows found the card, loaded the drivers & I was on my way. Works good for me . I ordered this for my "new" Dell Dimension 4300 running Windows XP sp2. It's an old model computer (2001), but it was brand when I got it last week cause the person I got it from had it unopened in the box in his apartment for 6 years. Only problem was the USB was still 1.1. It took forever to transfer date from my 2.0 External Hard drive. I installed this USB high speed card in my PC in less than 5 minutes, booted up and after Windows installed the necessary drivers, was ready to go. I was back to 2.0! I'm actually surprised how simple it was to install and that it instantly turned this PC into a 2.0. Very happy with this purchase. Sorry to hear about the trouble Dustin Zuch had with it. I've had similar problems trying to install other hardware so I know just what he's talking about, but for me and this system, it installed without a hitch.

So far so good . So far, this is working as advertised in my Dell Dimension 8200. (Pentium 4, 1.5Gig RAM) They work in XP and Ubuntu Linux as well. I've used all of the four outside ports..only thing is I have no idea what the interior port could be used for...I've plugged in my camera, a printer, the cradle for my iPAQ, and a Wacom tablet.

not perfect for a Mac . I installed the 5-port USB card in my G5 Power Mac, and it worked immediately. It didn't need a special driver. For ease of installation I give it high marks.

The big problem is that my Mac won't go to sleep if I leave a flash drive plugged into the card. The Mac gets stuck between awake and asleep, and there's no way to wake it besides powering it off and back on. This problem is not specific to the SIIG USB card. Most USB cards have the same problem on a Mac. Do a search for "macintosh usb deep sleep problem" for more info.

Worth it at twice the price! . This product works extremely well! I am very happy with it. Which surprised me because I have had some bad experiences with the SIIG brand before? I was initially very nervous about ever purchasing a SIIG whatever. I spent half the money on another one with a cheap VIA chipset, and had nothing but problems. I guess you get what you pay for. My computer: An ASUS P4TE motherboard with a 1 gig of RAMBUS RAM (uses an Intel 850 chipset - RAM alone costs $500), a Silicon RAID card, an ASUS NVIDIA chipset graphics card, an Intel Gig Ethernet card, a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 audio card, another SoundBlaster PCI audio card, and a few optional extras that I also installed. I know my computer is choosey when it comes to chipsets; if yours is too, go with this card. It uses an NEC chipset, auto detected by Windows XP Pro, and it just works flawlessly. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on the other one. One neat thing about this card, it has a power port for a floppy drive connector that gives the card more power then my motherboard can supply it through its PCI slot. I mean after all, the card does have four external USB ports, and one internal one. The internal one also allows you to hook up via a header pin configuration, but not both at the same time. If there was anything I wish this card had was an extra internal USB port. For some strange reason my motherboard, as good as it is, never came with a USB 2.0 chipset on it. Go figure!

Cons Review

Waste of time and money . Absolutely terrible. I could defecate on this thing and it would probably work better. I spent five hours trying to get it to work with many headaches and curses. I was thinking the whole time it was a problem with my PC. Finally, after trying everything humanly possible (including updating my BIOS) and calling my motherboard tech support, I realized it had to have been a hardware issue. I tried everything (including switching it to different PCI slots) and everyone I asked was just as stumped as I was. Online knowledge base had nothing specific enough to even remotely help me and this company provides NO PHONE TECH SUPPORT, which is an automatic sign to me that the company is crud. I'm returning this piece of junk and getting an IOGEAR instead.

Campground and RV Friendly . I have been using the PICO2HP for our campground in the black hills of SD. Best decision we ever made.They handle the weather well and given the price I have 5 running on our 12 acre campground. It works extremely well . I have a large home and I always had poor WIFI coverage in some area of my house. I used two Routers and set one up as an access point and that helped. I purchased a Picostation2HP and set it up, removed one of the routers and it is great. I get full bars all over my one acre property and on all three floors of my home and in all locations. This is even with the unit mounted inside of the home. It was well worth the money. The documentation is nonexistent but the Web forum information is very good. Non-technical people may have problems setting this up but the product is excellent.

Connections up to 1/2 mile away . These high-powered units work great. I've used them to set up a wifi network that covers my entire condo complex. My Macbook Pro gets a good connection up to to 600 feet away (line of sight, outdoors). Of course buildings, trees etc reduce the range considerably. But the range is FAR greater than one will get with a conventional router. The units are also designed to be mounted outdoors (Power is supplied via the Ethernet cable.) So they are great for connecting between buildings. The documentation says they will run at up to 54 megabits per second. However I've never been able to get more than 12 megabits per second out of them. That's plenty for my use. So I haven't worried about it.

I most often use these units in conjunction with an external antenna such as such as the Alfa 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Network Adapter With Original Alfa Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna or a repeater such as the Amped Wireless High-Power Wireless-300N Smart Repeater (SR300) or a Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router that has be upgraded with the DD-WRT firmware to make it work as a client or bridge unit.They are also configurable as "stations"(a.k.a. client or receiver units.) Using a pair of them gives truly impressive range. I configured a pair of these outdoors along an unobstructed line-of-sight. They connect at essentially full speed (about 12 megabits/sec) up to 0.3 miles apart. They connect at about half that speed at 0.5 miles apart which is the longest distance my test area provided. My guess is that that the bitrate will drop steadily with distances above 1/2 mile. Along an obstructed line with buildings, trees, etc. in the way, I've gotten them to work at full speed up to 400 feet apart and at about half speed up to 600 feet apart. This is a great solution if your router just doesn't have enough umpf!By the way, these are exactly the same hardware as the Ayrstone AyrMesh Hub but at a much lower price and with a much easier to configure interface. The Ayrmesh targets "meshed" setups and so it requires that you configure the unit via the Ayrmesh website and the units need to "contact the mother ship" at boot-time. I don't see any reason to pay the extra money unless one really wants to have a meshed configuration.One more point, these units come with the POE (power over ethernet) included. The Amazon page sometimes shows the POE being a "popular" combination. I don't know why anybody would bother to buy them together unless they were confused.

Cons Review

Think carefully before you buy. Virtually ZERO technical help available! . I advise caution before purchasing this product. If you are lucky enough to get a working item and do not need technical support you will be happy with it. I had mine working for one day and the range was at least 2,000 feet. Quite amazing. HOWEVER, if you should have ANY difficulty and need technical assistance YOU CAN FORGET IT. The unit stopped working. I went to the website indicated. You will find nearly ZERO information on the site unless you are told the "secret". The product is named something else on the site and no crossreference is given. FINALLY I found what was supposed to be installation help. It did not fix my problem of a dead system. I wrote three CONCISE and to the point questions and emailed them to the company. They did not phone as requested but answered with a CRYPTIC EMAIL that was essentially a canned response and told me NOTHING that I did not know before. Once they have your money it seems that their interest dies in the customer at that point. I seldom leave such a harsh evaluation of anything, but this company and their policies deserve my comments. Probably a great product, but if I cannot get it to function what good is it? They should be ashamed of their conduct and lack of resources.
