Better than expected . I can't give any empirical data regarding signal strength, packet loss, or any such things, but I'll tell you my experience.
I was originally planning to attach a modified antenna to this, or perhaps a windsail reflector, but I have yet to need them. Before I had this, our wireless reception was in the ditch. I now easily pick up signals from our neighbor's neighbor's router. I highly recommend this product.

It is Fast . Installed the software on WinXP, SP3 laptop. First install did not install drivers. Had to remove partial software installation and perform a reinstall. Second time worked. Connect speed is definitely faster than what it was using the internal wlan mini-card which connected with g. Now using 802.11n.

EnGenius USB Adapter Review . This product really works. I am currently living on a college campus and have the worst internet connection I have ever seen. At times, I was lucky if my laptop could get one or two bars for one minute due to the constant drop off of the internet signal. Ever since getting this adapter, I have had full bars at all times, downloading is faster (and I know that internet speed is mainly what the company is giving you), and signal quality is superb. Plus, it is space saving so my already cluttered desk is not more cluttered (to be redundant). I would definitely recommend this product.

Antenna on steroids! . I didn't know what I was missing until I installed this adapter. Doubled the speed on my Mac mini and HP Notebook. Get 7 bars instead of three! Install is easy zipfile, took 5 mins. Can't wait till I get rid of my 2Wire Gateway and replace it with a real wireless router/modem. Probably double my speed again! Highly recommend this adapter, cause you're gonna like it at home and especially on the road, or at Starbucks.
what a pain to install on a macbook os 10.4 . The good news and the bad news...
good news - this thing is fast.. it increased my download times probably 3 fold.
the bad - It took me five hours to get this s.o.b. to work. The documentation is terrible.
I finally had the sense to look at my wifes mac and check her settings and copied those.
I had to use "configure DHCP with manual address.
Do not try to use ppoe. I was trying everything and anything.
Prepare your self for much frustration.
Try to find a lap top that is working and copy those numbers ... you may have to tweak a little on the i.p. addresses.. but you know the drill.. 192.168.1.99 and keep changing the last two digits till it works.. try 100 thru 105 too.
good luck , you will need it... but it is fast! and cheap.

I followed the directions exactly for the first two hours then I just had to start improvising. what a night.
update - I changed my setting to "use DHCP" and it was able to configure itself automatically (i had tried this before to no avail).
I also figured out that the dongle's own weight was pulling itself down and away from usb contact points (put a pencil under it).
I also found out that if it does quit picking up your wireless network, pull it out, plug it back in and , voila, it works again. I have to do this if I leave the laptop unused for four or five hours.
