It is based on Motorola SB5101/5102 factory diagnostic shelled firmware. It does not have the torrent crashing problem that has been a problem with Sigma-X2. Haxorware also has the most advanced features of any current firmware. The web interface is clean and easy-to-use, and the web shell works flawlessly. New versions of the firmware can be easily upgraded via the web interface. This firmware is also known to work on many other modems with the Broadcom bcm3349 processor including the Ambit U10C018, RCA DCM425, Webstar DPC2100R2 and DPC2100R1 w/ bcm3349 chipset.

It gives us exactly the same features as what we were leasing from comcast. It works great and we did a search at 31 dollars great buy. We just needed to switch it with the one from comcast. Cable modem for comcast . Modem arrived in about 8-10 days. It worked just like it was supposed to. I hooked it up, called Comcast, they activated it, and IT WORKED! I took my $7.00 a month Comcast modem back to Comcast and my Amazon-purchased modem paid for itself in less than 2 months. It was so cheap it cost less than the shipping!

An Excellent Modem . I bought this modem to replace the same modem type that I was renting from my internet service provider. I had no trouble connecting it and with only brief assistance from my internet provider, it works marvelously. But I should caution anyone who is considering a purchase, it is a distinct probability that you will need some assistance with its installation from your service provider, but the modem itself is a jewel!

No problems . This product was received on time and I had no problem with getting it to work.

Its alright there are better ones out there . It takes a couple of minutes to start working after you plug in all the cables and power it on; it also disconnects like once a day. Once it disconnects, you would need to power it off and power back on. I think for the cost its OK.

Its good.But have to restart the modem at least once a day . I purchased this refurbished modem through amazon few weeks back. This looks good.And till now I have not faced any issues except that I have to restart the modem at least once a day because sometimes one of my laptops/smart phone would not connect to the internet through the wireless router. And once I restart the modem and router then everything works fine. Apart from this there is no problem and it works fine.

modem is good . I bought this refurbished modem to replace the rented modem from comcast and save $7 every month. So far it worked good and had no problems with it. Only thing is it was a bit dirty when I opened the package, they should atleast clean it before shipping.

Cons Review

It's risky to buy this used . I recently bought a used DPC2100R2 cable modem and got one that was manufactured in August 2006. It worked fine for five weeks and then died. While it was working, it gave a reliable and fast connection.

Be aware that this product has been released for a long time and that it is risky to get a used one. I recommend not buying any used networking products unless you have an accurate representation of the age and usage history.

Cheaper than Best Buy . I needed a switcher to add another computer to my eithernet connection at my desk at work. I looked at Best Buy and saw this exact same ethernet switch for 20 something bucks. I got this switch on Amazon.com used for [...] bucks. Unfortunately I had to pay shipping which was not much. I still paid less than I would have at Best Buy. It works great. I have two computers running off of it and I have not noticed any change in internet speeds.

Best Ever . This is a great Ethernet switch. I is very fast, reasonably priced and the company's support is awesome.
I ordered two of them. What's not to like?

Cheap and fast! What more do you need!? . Ordered one of these and it worked so well I turned around and ordered another one. I really like how snug the connections are held in place. My old hubs, which were hit by lightening, held the connections so loose I had to use rubber bands to hold wires securely in place. This switch is also faster than my old hubs transferring files from one pc to another or to and from Xbox. My son also has smoother gameplay on his Xbox through both switches. I feel like I got more than I paid for.

Excellent inexpensive switch . I periodically need to flash many radios at a time for my business. I need to have a number of inexpensive switches to extend the number of LAN ports available to me to do this. I only use the switch periodically, but it works terrifically. I will buy more of these as my needs grow.

Excellent Cheap easy print server . It took less than 15 minutes to get it up and running. Very easy set-up. I have Brother MFC 7340 printer (which was not in the compatibility list!!) and its scanning and printing nice and fast. Two PCs (a desktop and a laptop) are connected wirelessly to the router, and the print server is wired to the router. Everything is working fine. Both PCs are running windows vista.

I had to install the printer software to each pc separately. Then I installed the print server and things were good to go!!!

Highly recommended!!! Cheap!!! easy to install!!!

Cons Review

Can't maintain a connection . UPDATE:

I initially wrote a glowing review of this print server and gave it five stars, but now, I took everything back and rate it one star. The thing simply could not maintain a connection. There are six computers on our network sharing a printer through this print server. All of them run Windows 7, and all of them have the same problem. The printer would frequently go "off-line", or into some other disconnected status and became unaccessible. Sometimes running the PS-Link program to make a manual connection would solve the problem, and sometimes the only solution is to unplug the power and restart the print server.

Actually, I did notice the unreliability in the beginning when I used dynamic IP address for this print server, but I thought the problem was fixed by switching to manual IP address. It was not. It was just better, but still extremely unreliable.

No, you can't live with something like this. It would be insane.

I subsequently bought a TRENDnet TE100-P21. So far, it is maintaining a connection with every computer on the network. I shall observe it longer and see what happens. The setup was even simpler. Besides, the TRENDnet has two USB ports plus a parallel port, in contrast to a single USB port of the Airlink.

Anyway, the following is the original review I wrote. Everything I wrote is still true (because I wasn't aware of any unreliability at the time), and may still be useful information for someone who is interested in investing. I was glad to get rid of it.

THE ORIGINAL REVIEW:

BACKGROUND:

I hesitated to buy it due to lack of user reviews. But glad I bought it. This thing is so much better than my 5 years old D-Link printer server which was four times as expensive. The D-Link had terrible design, requiring extremely confusing user setup. I'm highly experienced in networking, but it took me many hours to figure out the D-Link Print Server. I later wrote an review to detail the procedure of setting up the D-Link Print Server, and guess what, every time when I needed to set up the print server again, I had to consult to my own writing because the thing was so complicated and illogical that there is no way that you can remember how to do it.

PROS:

With that background, you can imagine how delighted I was to set up this tiny Airlink101. It took less than 10 min. altogether. And I did not even read the instructions. All you need to do is The following steps:

(1) hook up the print server with your router (or access point or switch depending on where you at the network) and with a computer on the network;
(2) install the programs that come with the print server; And
(3) start PS Link (one of the two installed programs)and click the link button shown in the window, and you're done.

There is no confusing port setup, no confusing distinction between local printer and network printer, and even more confusing distinction between printer IP address and the printer name, all the terrible junk thrown at you by the D-Link. Compared to this little print server, the D-Link was outright incompetent engineering.

On my computers running Windows 7, it didn't even require me to go to the Windows control panel to add a printer. After I did the above 3 steps, I felt good and said to myself, now, all you need to do is go to the control panel to add a printer. I was a bit anxious of the distinction between adding a local printer and network printer (which was such a headache with the D-Link). But when I got to the control panel, I noticed that the printer was already there. And I tested it and it worked. This may be because the printer driver was already installed on my computer.

If you are installing a new printer, you might need to run PS Wizard (the other one of the two programs installed with the CD came with the print server). That is where you install the printer driver.

You may want to log onto the configuration to set up a few things such as password. But for just printing, if you do the above three simple steps, you are done.

CONS:

The only complaint I have about it is that it can network only one printer. I'm planning to buy another one because I have two printers that need to be networked.

TIPS:

(1) Based on my experience, I concluded that for this print server to work reliably, you must set it on manual IP and also manually preserve a static IP for it on your router. I used DHCP first. It connects easily, but it could not stay connected. It required frequent "re-linking" of the printer. Once I switch to static IP, everything seem to work well.

(2) If you are installing a new printer, you might need to run PS Wizard That comes with it.

(3) Remember, you need to install the print server software on every computer on the network that you want to use the network printer. The installation takes just a few minutes. Couldn't be simpler.

(4) Note also that they make a wireless version of this print server too. But I bought the non-wireless one because I connect the print server through the ethernet port of a bridge which has a wireless connection to the router.

Do not buy -- will not maintain connection hangs up while printing . We have to constantly turn things off and on, re-"link", even reinstall the software, in an effort to make it print. When it does print, it's extremely slow, and occasionally "hangs up" in the middle of a printout.

I'm on the phone right now waiting to talk to their support (10 minutes in the queue so far) but they say on their website it is a discontinued model and not supported. We'll see what they say. There is no updated software on their website.

It didn't work. . I tried to install the software on three different computers (Windows7, Vista, and a Mac) and the software acted differently on all three. And it didn't work on any of them. This product is pretty rough around the edges. I returned it.

Nice gadget. . It's a great tool, purchased this because after I upgraded to snow leopard my wifi printer no longer worked, a common problem with Mac right now. It worked instantly with the BT on my cell phone but was not so easy on the Macbook. I did finally figure it out and it works flawlessly. Don't ask me how I did it though I tried every possible printer install option until it actually printed. Just beware if you have a Mac it does work but not as easily "plug and play" as claimed.

wireless printing . Nice choice for printing via bluetooth from small distances. Does not communicate well if your computer is not on the same room of the device.

Cons Review

Blue tooth schmoo tooth . Just flat doesn't work with my HP8750 Photoprinter. And, of course, we all know that HP's "what-me-worry" Bangalore based customer service is useless.

Shaky with Vista . Well I got this product to use with my headsets on my computer and with my Sprint Mogul. Unfortunately this product failed miserably. Installing it was a pain, getting it to do what it is supposed to do was impossible. It offers bluetooth, absolutely-but it fails to provide the appropriate bluetooth services I needed.

I did find another bluetooth device that DOES work. I get actual bluetooth stereo via my Motorola S9 and can watch movies on my computer while listening to bluetooth audio in stereo. It's great! That product is the IOGEAR USB Adapter with bluetooth Wireless Technology 2.0 Spec Class 1 (plus right now it's cheaper than THIS device). The IOGEAR is not only Bluetooth 2.0 but it has a max range of 330 feet (vs. 30 feet for most Bluetooth). I can actually take my S9 and listen to my iTunes in the backyard! Plus it set up easier with my S9 for stereo sound. I am still testing THAT device for quirks as no bluetooth adapter has proven itself foolproof, but the IOGEAR is much better than this HP adapter.

Not so much . Never have been able to make this product work. I'm not that happy about it. Could be me? I wouldn't have given it any stars but it made me rate it with at least one... I disagree

It works but not spectacular . My room is upstairs, about 60 feet away from the router. What bugged me more is that the wireless signal has to go through a series of obstructions before it finally reaches my laptop. The router is a wireless N and I got a laptop with a G card. So to make the long story short, I kinda have to buy a wireless N card.

I ordered this usb wireless adapter mainly because it has an antenna and it is cheap. First impressions are: You get what you pay for. Plastic is glossy and looked impressive until you plug it in. The USB plug does not have the metal cover, instead you get the bare usb plug, no metal cover. Be VERY careful in handling it because you might break it when adjusting the antenna angle.

The antenna is dipole, which is, in consumer terms is just 'left and right' or 'front and end' which is unlike the omni-directional antenna which you are getting the signal from 'all-around'. So you might have a little trouble getting the perfect signal. My room is upstairs so I have to lean the antenna to a 135 degree angle __/ to get a good signal. You have to use a usb hub or a usb extension. If you trying to get a good signal by just plugging it in to your laptop, then good luck with that. You could do that though if your laptop and router are on the same floor.

If you are easily frustrated, then this is not for you.

Great picture and easy to use - but bad sound . I used to consider DirecTV to be the preferred choice of satellite television providers. With the introduction of new personal video recorder models, also referred to as PVR's or DVR's, Dish Network has established themselves as a formidable competitor in the areas of price, selection, picture quality, and customer service. My gripe is with their lack of Dolby Digital and 5.1 surround sound channels. It's enough to be a dealbreaker for audiophiles.

This model was a free replacement for an older model satellite receiver being phased out in 2005. A phone call set up the shipment and the process was painless. The receiver contains standard cable jacks for input and output as well as two RCA audio and video outputs, an S video output, and a Dolby Digital connector. With the number of audio/visual devices out there (TV, VCR, DVD, Satellite as well as stereo components), I would have liked to have seen an RCA audio and video input.

Included with the DVR is a built-in infrared "blaster" that works like a remote to control VCR's supported by the device (all major brands.) With this function you can use the satellite receiver to record programs to your VCR instead of the DVR. That said, it can be a daunting task to ensure both the VCR and DVR are set to the correct channels and appropriate TV/video settings or you'll end up recording the wrong program. This is why A/V inputs would be helpful and you'll likely be better off recording the program to the DVR first to transfer to the VCR later.

The Dish Network's customer service staff are some of the finest I have talked to in any company. Not only are they friendly and helpful, but I've found them to be knowledgeable (reducing the need for transfers) and hold times are usually under a minute. After installing the receiver, activation took less than five minutes and we were up and running before I hung up the phone.

Compared to the older receiver, I find this new receiver delivers a sharper picture with improved contrast and clarity. Until now, I gave the nod to DirecTV, but I believe the two are now equal. Dish also fixed some annoyances while channel surfing. In the past, pulling up the Dish guide meant obscuring the entire channel. Now the channel is moved to the right corner of the screen, similar to DirecTV, so you can view the current channel while you scan other channels. Another channel surfing option is to flip through the names (only) of programs on different channels. Unfortunately, this method obscures the top third of the screen with the title of the current channel and the bottom third of the screen with the title of the channels you're flipping through. The size of this obscured screen space could be drastically reduced and still provide the same information.

Another new feature is the ability to display the name and phone number of incoming telephone calls for those subscribing to caller id service through their telephone company. Finally, the old receiver used to suffer severe lag in downloading program descriptions. This problem seems to have disappeared entirely.

On to Digital Video Recording. This is my first experience with DVR's and I must say they have made the process very intuitive. I haven't had to refer to the user manual yet. The most prominent difference between DVR users and those without is the ability to pause live television. This is easily done via a big yellow pause button on the remote. Once this happens, the DVR kicks in and begins recording from the point you pause. To the end user, it simply looks like you hit the pause on a DVD. As soon as you start up again, the DVR continues to record as you watch so you never miss anything. Because you're now watching recorded television, you now have the advantage of skipping past commercials until you reach the point where you're back to a live broadcast. The only drawback is you will lose what you have recorded if you switch to a different channel. The system does prompt you beforehand so you won't switch back to live mode by mistake. The process may sound complicated but it's very painless. If you can operate a VCR, you can operate this DVR.

Programming the DVR to record programs is even easier than a VCR in my opinion. Simply scroll through the guide until you find a program you wish to record, then hit the record button. A prompt comes up, select VCR or DVR, and you're ready to go. I did get a tech to admit that it is possible to record one channel while watching another but they are only offering this service to new subscribers. Apparently, replacing the receivers of existing customers to include this feature will tax the current capacity of their system. If you're limited to recording the same channel you're watching as I am, a timer icon will pop up five minutes prior to warn it's about to flip the channel on you. To access and playback recorded programs, simply hit the button marked "DVR" on your remote and a list of recorded programs will pop up. Scroll through the list until you find the program you want, hit the select button, and you're off and running.

Thanks to DVR, the remote control is now as intuitive as you can get. The standard up/down/left/right controls are used to flip through the channels, the channel guide, and menus, but now you have DVR controls similar to what you would find on a VCR remote. This provides the ability to replace your current VCR remote entirely as all the functions are supported. The Dish remote acts as a universal remote for three devices in addition to the satellite. I just wish there were four devices we could add instead of three. If I didn't have to choose between controlling the home theater system and the DVD player, I could have eliminated all of the remotes in the house.

Perhaps it's better marketing but DirecTV seems to be the provider of choice for sports fans thanks to their all-inclusive sports package. Dish is the winner for music fans thanks to their partnership with Sirius. I counted 140 music channels (although I'm tempted to exclude the 20 or so channels that are broadcast in mono.)

This brings me to my only major gripe with Dish Network - the sound quality. Dish Network broadcasts only HBO, Showtime, and a few Pay-per-View networks in 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound. That's it. All other stations are simply 2-channel stereo, including premium channels. The signal/noise ratio is high enough that you won't hear any hiss, but the channel separation seems to be rather low for regular stereo. I find myself frequently fiddling with the virtual (fake) surround effects to find a setting I like. Anyone used to the immersive effects of true five or six channel digital audio will find the Dish Network sorely lacking. Since most cable companies do not have this limitation, I have a hard time recommending the Dish as an alternative to anyone owning a home theater system.

Finally, a new feature entitled Dish@Home isn't a gripe as much as an example of a really bad business decision. I beta-tested a similar service through a cable company years ago and this isn't any better. The service attempts to provide information such as news, weather, sports scores through your television yet the process is so slow and cumbersome you'll never use it. The games on cellular phones are higher quality and at least a game on a phone is a one-time fee vs. the monthly subscription this service tries to extract from you. I expect Dish@Home to die a quick death.

Dish dvr 510 . I've just upgraded one of my 301 receivers for this 510 so I can get dvr.This dvr has a feature called live record which is similar to what the Xm skyfi 2 has.It automatically records the minute you cut the receiver on.You can pause and pick up where you left off or rewind to the beginning.It will record for over an hour and then start writing over.Also this dvr has a harddrive which will let you record over 100 hours of shows,movies etc.You can record several ways.My favorite is to go to the guide and just click on a future show and you're all set.Incidently this guide goes a week out about 9 days.The 301's guide goes 2 or 3 days a big difference.There is also a menu to let you edit your recordings,name them and even erase them.It also lets you know how many hours you have left on the harddrive.I checked the recording and you can't even tell a difference in the live picture and the recorded one.The recorded one looks the same as the live one and the sound is the same too.It isn't dimminished thru recording.Previously I use a dvd recorder to record from dish.The picture quality on the dvd recorder was diminished slightly and I had to cut the sound up a lot.Not so with this dvr.The only thing I don't like about the 510 is it gets hot even when it's off for a lot of hours.My 301 is cool to the touch when it is off for a few hours.

Good points
Dvr feature lets you just set it up to record on the guide days in advance which means no programming vcrs or dvdrecorders.The clock is already set in the receiver.All you do is press select over the show you want to record in the guide and it's all set.You can also do a manuel recording where you extend the times if you want to.

Guide goes out 9 days instead of 2 like the 301

Beautiful Picture Quality Sharp and pristine like all of dishes receivers dvd quality.

Auto Record I should mention that when you cut it on it records but when you cut it off it's erased.This isn't what goes on the harddrive.

Recordings are as great as the original picture both in sound and picture.

Info on dvr lets you know how many hours are left on harddrive,edit,name etc.

Remote has the interactive button for instant access to channel 100 the interactive channel.

Receiver has fan to keep harddrive cool.

Has all the bells and whistles of the 301 and lets you pick favorites channels on the guide and themes.

Bad Points
Receiver gets too hot even when it's off it's hot to the touch.

Manuel states you have to unplug receiver before you move it because it can damage harddrive.

Cons Review

Built In Obsolescence? Or just poorly made? . We've gone through at least five of these DVRs - every time it's the same thing: suddenly we lose programs we had recorded - even the night before, and/or the timers we had programmed all suddenly disappear and have to be reprogrammed - only to vanish again. These problems start between 6 months to a year of use. Each time we have called Dish Network and they have exchanged it, then it takes some time to set up the new DVR and get it synced with your satellite feed etc. Then months later - same thing. I should mention that there was one exception: one DVR that was sent to us for exchange was faulty right out of the box. The rest took at least 6 months to go on the fritz.

This seems to be either "built in obsolescence" or just horribly shoddy quality.

Dvr 510 . The DVR works fine but there was no instruction manual. Also when I registered the Receiver I had to pay $33.00 to Dishnetwork because that amount was still owed to them by the previous owner

Good way to set up a fast efficient simple network at home . No problems setting up this system which transfers data between rooms via the phone jacks . I have broadband internet access which works plenty fast on the networked computers in the house. I'm under the impression that this system is being phased out as it's not being offered any more at the large stores in my area (Best Buy, Frys, etc.) I'm attributing this to the wireless push being made by Netgear and others.

It quite simply rocks . After recently moving into a new house, I soon found there was no feasible way to get a wired ethernet setup going, what with architectural constraints. I just wanted to share cable internet access among our 3 computers, without going wireless; the low throughput and limited range of an affordable wireless solution (802.11b) doesn't appeal to me. After a bit of research, I picked up a Linksys HPRO200 router and ordered this litte gem.It took one week to receive the PA-101, and within 5 minutes, my network was up; and I didn't have to configure an access point, WEP encryption, or any of the hassles of wireless. No need to route any ethernet cable between floors either.It's too bad this technology is being rendered obsolete; sort of reminds me of the way Beta VCRs were supplanted by VHS. The inferior product was marketed more aggressively...On the bright side, HPNA 2.0 adapters can be found for as litte as $5 now.And yes, the PA-101 works just fine with windows ME, and 2000, and 98. I've tested all of them, and recommend this for anyone.

First USB Phoneline Adapter . Advantage to user that do not have a PCI slot available. Great usage of phone line to network your laptop and connect anywhere from your house to your main computer and share all the resources. Great idea and great product!

Good product overall . It works as advertized, and good for laptop use since phoneline PC card choices are limited and so-so. It would be good for desktop use if you do not want, or know how, to install a PCI card. However, for desktop use I would recommend the PA-301 PCI card. It is a great way to network home computers and share a high speed (broadband) internet connection without running wires through your house. The 10Mbs is very adequate, and comparable to wired ethernet, considering that (broad)bandwidth usually gets you 2-5Mbs. To some extent, the 10X phoneline networking through your existing phone wiring is more dependable than 802.11b wireless. However for laptop use, the whole idea of being mobile is to be free of wires. I bought it initially for laptop use, but decided in the end to go wireless. I use wired 10/100 for my main desktop, phoneline connection (PA-301) to network each of my kid's desktop, and wireless for my wife's laptop as well as mine. However, the PA-101 really works and does not interfere with regular phone use. You CAN actually surf the web (high speed connection) and talk on the phone at the same time....

Positive - from comp. eng. student . I don't know why these things don't exist in the market very much. Ethernet is all over the market, but you would need cabling for that. I connected my Windows XP computer to my father's (also XP) in the other room, and it's working very well, and couldn't be cheaper. You don't even need their software, XP recognizes the device and you can set up a small office or home network with XP - very easily. Arrived fast too. Really fast. Maybe because I'm in CA, and they ship from CA too.

Perfect Product . Not only did this device funtion exactly as it should, it works quickly and absolutely effortlessly on Windows XP. I've been using it for about a year now, and I've never had a single problem. Windows XP recognizes it and installs drivers for it without even asking for the CD. Great product!!

Quick and easy . I had to switch from Aviator's PCMCIA-based wireless network "WebGear" to Netgear's Phoneline system because I purchased a PC that did not have ISA or PCMCIA ports. Although I was otherwise satisfied with the Aviator system, I found the Netgear system much faster to install and get up-and-running. I just wish someone made a wireless system that supported Windows 2000 and USB.

Did exactly what it was supposed to do and effortlessly. . I already had a phoneline network set up, plugged this product into a USB port, and the product automatically set itself up (including changing the Windows 98 settings to allow file sharing). Can't comment about technical support, haven't had to use them.

Cons Review

After 4 help desk calls it still doesn't work! . I wish I could give it no stars! What a mess. Looking to avoid drilling holes in my floors and running cable, I thought NetGear's Home Phoneline 10X (PA101) was the answer. I was wrong. I followed the sparse directions to the letter, but I couldn't establish communication. So I call tech support. In the recorded greeting, Netgear admitted that they're getting a high number of help calls. I'm not surprised. After wait times of a half hour or more (in their defense, NetGear has wonderful hold music) I finally get a tech that tells me that my house phone system is wired incorrectly so I would have to run a phone line from one PA101 to the other (using the home phone system so I wouldn't have to run cable is the whole reason why I bought their product in the first place! ) I was also told that I would have to reinstall the software, and I would need to hardcode the IP address in. None of this worked. Long story short, after a week of frustration, I have two weird looking but expensive paperweights, no LAN, and a great deal of buyer's remorse.

Doesn't work (with Windows ME at least) . I gave up today trying to make this crap work after a week's wasted time and six tries trying to understand the (Hindu speaking) technical support engineers. A link was established but neither computer EVER saw the other no matter what I tried. I can't recommend this stuff for anyone with Windows ME. Don't know about any other OS. Gave it one star simply because I couldn't give it zero stars!
