Good and useful item but hard to install without instructions . I bought this mainly to have a back up internet connection at home because I work from home on a regular basis and need access 24x7. When my ISP goes down the world simply collapses. So, with this tool I can have it handy when my home internet goes down and I can also use it when travelling. The main negative thing about this is the fact that it is a pain to install at first and the box comes with no instructions.

Pros:
- Good internet speed even if you do not get all 4 bars. I live on the ground floor, get only 2, sometimes 3 out of 4 possible bars but I can still browse the web, download and perform other tasks at a good speed. With AT&T I only get 2 out of 5 bars and with T-Mobile I only get 1 bar and sometimes none.
- AFTER initially configured, very simple to use. Simply plug and play.

Cons:
- No instructions are provided by seller or Verizon or Novatel on installing, so you just have to guess, unless you find someone helpful (like me :) to take the time to write everything step by step.
- The main con: It's a pain to configure at first, but I'll try to help you listing all the steps I took.

Steps:

1) INSTALLING THE INITIAL DRIVERS:
Plug the USB device to your computer and download all drives. It should start automatically and once it is finished you should get a Mobilink black box with the button to activate. You can try to activate but you might get the "activation unsuccessful" message like I did. In this case, go to step 2.

2) CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT WITH VERIZON WIRELESS.
Call Verizon Wireless support and 800-922-0204 and ask to be transferred to a prepaid support representative and mention you are trying to activate the USB760 device. The rep will get your information, credit card number, create your account and provide you with a 10 digit phone number associated with your account and a 4 digit pin (Make sure you save this pin because you will need it to refill your account). Once the rep creates your account, he will ask you to pick a prepaid plan. I chose the $15 for one day plan (without auto renewal) just to test and make sure everything is working fine. After the rep created my account I was able to click the activate button from step 1 and successfully activate it.

3) CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET
I unplugged the device from my computer and once I plugged back in I was prompted with the same Mobilink black and green screen. This time, instead of the activate button I had the connect button. Verizon rep was confused and he was saying that I should see a VZAccess manager box which I didn't. I guess I was seeing the Mobilink box while he thought I should be seeing the VZManager. Either way, once clicking connect I was able to connect to the internet and at this point I had access and I was able to surf the web with no issues. However, at this point I was unable to manage my account online because Mobilink software did not offer this option. I tried to register on Verizon's web site with the 10 digit number provided (as if I was registering a cell phone) but it didn't go through.

4) DOWNLOADING VZACCESS MANAGER
I could have stopped at step 3 if I simply wanted to access the internet but I wanted to have a way to manage my account, renew and do some other stuff online without having to call Verizon Support every time. So I searched for the VZAccess Manager online and found it. (I can't put links here so just Google VZAccess Manager and you should find the site v z a m . n e t ). I downloaded version 7.3.13 of the device compatible with my operating system (Windows XP on my work computer and Windows 7 on my home computer). This application shows some information about my usage but I have been unable to manage my account (add money, replace credit card etc). According to the rep I need to click on "My Access" from the VZAccess Manager application but this is not working at this time. If I get to access it I'll come here and update my review. In the mean time I found a phone number where you can refill your account using an automated system: 800-786-8419

I hope it helps!
NOVATEL USB760 3.1 Mbps Wireless cellular modem 3G USB Broadband Device for Verizon Reviews
nice to have backup internet service . I have two stores that rely on internet service to run credit cards. I dread getting calls when my internet service is down. It doesn't happen often but it can be costly. I got this Verizon USB modem for backup along with prepaid service. I started with a 1 day access to install and test. First location gave me an odd Error 678 on my pc and would not connect after I activated it. An online search revealed that it could be any odd number of settings on my pc that was causing the problem. It was looking grim. I than installed at my other location and it connected just fine. It also ran a device update there as well as a software update to the software running on my pc. I than took it back to the first store where I first updated the software running on the pc. Now I have a back up internet service ready for both stores without having to committ to a service plan.

Next step is to get another one of these so each store has one. Keep in mind that a phone number is assigned to each device so you'll have to activate the new device. I'll also keep a prepaid card good for one week at each store. You can pay by credit card but I don't want to have to share that with employees if I can't be there.
NOVATEL USB760 3.1 Mbps Wireless cellular modem 3G USB Broadband Device for Verizon Opinions
Works well no disconnects great 3G modem . After reading a lot of reviews online (especially at verizon's website), I decided to buy this USB modem even though it's not 4G capable. The overall opinion seemed to be that this 760 model is basically the pinnacle of many years of refinements to VZ-compatible 3G USB devices. It's great. Gets good speeds (for 3G), doesn't drop connections, works very well. Also I got a great price from a marketplace seller here on Amazon.

One thing to note is that you'll pay $60/month rather than $50/month for this device because it's not 4G capable, which seems strange but it's just the way it is. From the reviews of current 4G modems (hopefully this will change), I'd rather pay more per month for this older one because the newer ones are reported to disconnect constantly when in a 3G area (possibly because they are hunting for 4G but I am not sure about that).

Anyway, if you primarily care about 3G coverage because you think it will be a while before you have or care about 4G, this is a great choice.
Seller resolved problem . I received the modem, tried to activate it and Verizon told me it had a balance due on the unit and it could not be activated until the balance was paid. Basically I purchased a non working modem.
Update
Seller resolved problem.
Works for me...best of 3 options. . I got this modem, at least its clone, when I signed up with Millenicom (Cellco...partnered with Verizon) to get internet. Save for mine having the Verizon Wireless logo on it, it is identical to this one. Not to mention a usage cap 4x as large as Verizon's at the same price on the 3G system(and no over-limit fee...that I've yet to ever reach). Works fine in rural areas for those users left with only satellite internet or dialup as options, but still want to have a more tolerable gaming experience. I average about 300-400ms latency online versus the 1700+ of the satellite internet kept as an alternate. As mines suffered some damage to its case...I just might check with my ISP and order another one of these as a replacement if possible.
This modem works great . I need a backup for my DSL since I work from home. This came with a user guide and it also had a sticker which said to install the software first from the CD before inserting the modem in the PC. It also automatically updated the software which worked fine. The software works great connecting to the network and also to purchase a plan online without having to talk to someone on the phone. You can select from several plans: one day, one month, etc. And the speed on the 3G network is good. I recommend this product.

Cons Review
Beware service agreement... . The installation manager downloaded as soon as the modem was plugged into the USB port, though connection was through another wifi service, VZ service signal strength showed five bars. Unplugging and plugging modem back into the USB port allowed running the VZ software to get to the menu and activation tab, though I was still connected though another wifi service, which I'm sure facilitates the process. So far, so good... However when I read the terms for activating pre-paid service, it was the boilerplate agreement for a cell phone, $175 cancellation, etc etc. Huh? So what's the point of pre-pay? A true paid service like TracFone cards would be far preferable in my opinion. In the end, I decided not to activate service, and will only do so if I'm really desperate sometime in the future. Right now when I'm travelling, using the occasional hotspot is preferable to the hassles of dealing with another aggressive phone company -- if I already had Verizon cell service, I might think differently. So the hardware seems OK, but the service arrangement is much different from what I would expect from "Pre-Paid."
Bad product . I ordered the product and a few days later it arrived as mentioned on the website. When I got the USB I immediately did what I was supposed to..downloaded the drivers, subscribed to a wireless provider etc. The product worked for about 10 mins while at home. The next day, I took my computer out with me on some errands to see if it worked..away from my wifi at home. IT DIDN'T..I dropped my brand new hp mini and the USB off at a computer shop..and the owner of the computer shop troubleshooted for nearly 2 hours, problem...the device. I tried to call the company where I purchased..number was a california number and it was always busy...how convienent! I called Amazon and they authorized an immediately return..I received my refund about 3 weeks later.
Verizon . Verizon will hound you once they have your details. Even when you return their sub-standard products, they will continue to charge for for their 'services'.

Definately, the worst American company I have came across. Avoid them at all cost - Watchdog.
