TRENDnet TE100-P11 2-Port USB/Parallel Print Server TE100-P11 Print Servers - Wired

This review is from : TRENDnet 2-Port USB 2.0/Parallel Print Server TE100-P11 (White)
Works VERY well! . I spent approximately 3 hours connecting this Print Server to my network & three machines. It took me that long because I went in and reviewed, changed and test-printed samples several times until I was sure I had the Print Server the way I wanted it. I added a (parallel) LaserJet purchased in 1991 and a second (usb) LaserJet purchased in 2010 without a problem.

The instructions were fine, but there're a couple things I'd suggest.

Even before you install your Print Server, go to the "normal" Windows Add a Printer. Add each of the printers you're going to use on the network. You do NOT need to have these printers physically attached to the PC (or to anything). Just add the printer which will install the drivers and create an icon to your list of printers.

After you've install the Print Server on your network, you'll need to run their Print Port SetUp software. On the 1st PC this software will automatically run. When you do run the Print Port SetUp the printer's icon created above will be listed and all you'll have to do is select "connect". Everything worked fine.

On EVERY OTHER PC, again go to the Windows Add a Printer (as above) and then insert the disc & execute "SetUp.exe". This will install their Print Port SetUp and all you'll have to do is connect each printer. This only took about 10 minutes per PC.

Good Luck
TRENDnet 2-Port USB 2.0/Parallel Print Server TE100-P11 (White) Reviews
Does the job. . I have this connected to a mixed Windows 7/XP and Mac home network with an Epson MFP and a 16 year old HP5MP laser printer (best printer ever). The installation is simple despite the rather clunky Windows software. I've had no problems with it. I wanted cheap and bare bones functional and got exactly this, no more, no less.
Great price great quality . We purchased this print server to connect a USB label printer and it works like a charm; running strong after 1 month. Great buy!
TRENDnet 2-Port USB 2.0/Parallel Print Server TE100-P11 (White) Opinions
Works great Fairly easy to setup . Once setup, this thing works great. I needed a wireless print server with a parallel connection and this fit the bill. Install the software and follow the instructions and everything should be fine.

-1 star because I could not get this to work in my test environment with differing LAN & WLAN subnets. (I gave up without too much effort knowing the working environment would be on the same subnet.)
Trendnet wireless print server . Easy to set up. Need to read the instructions carefully so that appropriate connections are made, For example, to connect a parallel port use L1, Some of these should be stated prominently.

Cons Review
Everything was great until I turned on the printer. . So this was my second wireless print server that I purchased in the last week. The first one a different brand didn't function at all, so I returned it to Amazon (By the way, returns through Amazon are excellent and easy).

I was a system administrator for a bank for 5 years and I configured and used countless print servers on a daily basis. I opened the box to find the print server, power adapter, utility disk and a the basic user manual (I was disappointed not to find a USB cable and an ethernet cable... the previous other brand print server I tried came with both). I read the manual to verify the setup procedure (I'm a manual person, always read the manual... then the tech support guys can't ask that dumb question and be smug about it "did you read the manual").

The setup procedure was very straight forward and followed a similar setup as the previous unit. Plug in the Ethernet cable, plug in the USB cable, plug in the power... run the setup application, configure the print server... all this worked fine. I was able to customize the tcp/ip settings to my network with a static address and input the wireless settings for my network with no issues. I rebooted the unit after I configured all the settings and was able to access the unit through the web interface and the bi-admin utility.

At this point I was very happy with the unit and figured that I was home free... this is where I turned on the printer to configure the printer ports. As soon as I turned on the printer, I lost communication to the print server. The lights remained on, but nothing was working. I turned off the printer and waited a few minutes and I was able to communicate to the print server again.

At this point I am waiting for an email from tech support, but they are not available over a weekend and I am not very patient. I searched the web for support issues to assist me in troubleshooting, but either it is too new of a product, or no one has any issues with it except me. The Trendnet website has nothing for support issues in their knowledge base nd their full manual has nothing for troubleshooting.

Rating Breakdown:
Configuration - It configured easily enough through the initial setup, but looses points because it lacks information that the lpt port is printer 1 and the usb port is printer 2. And it just stopped functioning when I tried to configure the printer.

Parts Included - No Ethernet cable (which you need to configure the unit), No USB cable (Would be nice, but you probably already have one).

Price vs. Quality - At $80.00+ it's a bit more than most others and it just didn't work out of the box. I'm a huge proponent of quality out of the box, it's the first time I bought a Trendnet product and I would probably not buy another one in the future.

Construction - The general look and feel of the product is solid and I was happy with it. Without opening the hood and looking at the inside (probably finding a short that is causing the connectivity issues) I cannot comment on the internals.

I averaged out the stars I gave it in the above areas, but in general, I would not recommend this product and I am 98% likely to return this product on Monday If I do not get an email from Trendnet early in the day.

Hope this helps... I actually don't think that there are any wireless print servers out there that are really any good... I've read a ton of reviews and they all seem to have problems. I think I am going to have to setup a home server to meet my needs of printing.
it works... sometimes . If an IT pro like me can't get it to work reliably then there is a problem. It was awesome at first, but after a few days the printers were no longer connected. Un/re-installing the printers gets them back online, but nobody wants to do that every time we want to print something. I created a helpdesk ticket with TRENDnet but never received a response to my inquiry. FAIL.
You get what you pay for . I think this thing works, but I'm not sure. It doesn't play well with Windows 7 and I have no machines with Vista or XP left. It shows up as an unknown device in the Win7 Devices and Printers control panel. The only way I've been able to make it work is to disable DHCP and assign an IP address to it and then manually add the printers in Win7. Adding printers was tricky, too, as the port must be configured as a local port, not a network port. Go figure. Nothing at all straightforward, logical or intuitive and certainly nothing there leveraging the networking ease-of-use functions in Win7. Very disappointing.

I debated returning the thing, but I got it mostly working and since I do minimal printing at home, it really isn't that big of a deal. Regardless, given the easy wireless options out there, this device is just simply arcane, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unwilling to open a command prompt and dig into "net use" functions. Frankly, I can't recommend it at all...
