Westell Modem . We have this modem and it's never given us a problem, works great.
This review is from : Westell DSL Modem
Works Great . If your phone company has updated the lines from analog then this will work. I used it for five years very happily. But when we moved to central Utah we found that they have not updated the lines for dsl.
Westell DSL Modem Reviews
No Problems With Ours . I see alot of one star reviews so I thought I would write about our experience. We moved over 3 years ago to a new area and had to select a new DSL provider...this is how we got this modem in the first place. We have used it ever since then and it has been great. We leave it on 24/7 and actually use it in conjunction with a linksys router. Maybe about 3 times in these past few years I've had to restart the modem. If the Internet gets sluggish and a computer reboot doesn't help, I would turn off everything (router/modem/computer) and turn it back on and everything would be fine again. That has been only a few times though. Anyway, we've had a great experience with ours. Hope this helps!

Cons Review
Have to agree with Veronica Williams . This DSL modem is a piece of junk. Not exactly sure what the problem with this thing is, but it has to be cold booted (unplug it, wait 15 seconds, plug it in again) every morning if I want to retain the through-put I'm paying for.

If you own one of these things you can see for yourself how bad it is by running a speed test at the DSL Reports website before doing a cold boot and after doing a cold boot. In my case the download speed *DOUBLES* after a reboot.
Not the Modem for me! . I'm visiting my family in TN, and they have DSL. at home, I have cable internet. After suffering many many hours with Linksys and discovering I needed a DSL modem, I assumed this one would do the trick. It may work well for others; but for this Internet savvy person, it did nothing but cost me 30 bucks and extra irritation amongst other things. There was no installation disk, no warning that this modem was for AOL, and no up-to-date-filters to adhere to the Bellsouth high-speed Internet necessities. All in all, this little white Westell Modem is NOT something I'd reccomend. Since I cannot return it, I'm stuck with a product I'll never use. I spent hours stressing over modems and routers on this site and it angers me that I still failed in finding the right product to get online via DSL.

UPDATE:

To the seller--giving me a 2 out of 5 rating for telling the truth about your misleading advertisement is very tacky. I see what kind of business you do, which is why I knew good and well I'd be better off selling it than trying to demand a refund from such a shady writer. Do not EVER plan to buy from you again and I guarantee other people will end up just as unhappy.
This is a piece of Junk!!!! . I have one given by Bellsouth. It drops whenever there is a thunderstorm or rain. Bellsouth (AT&T) is replacing it with the Westell 327W and were quick to do it for free. Tech said it is a problem.
junk is not the word for this. . run from this product. i got this modem when i had verizon dsl and when i switched to dsl extreme. i know.. i know... what do you expect for free. well at the very minimum i expect it to at least work. i makes a better frisbee than a modem.

This review is from : User 56KV.92 Performance pro Modem Rohs Controller Pci
Microsoft Cert'd for Windows Fax Server . Bought this to run in the corporate Windows Server 2003 fax server since we were having problems with the stock modem from Dell dropping some fax transmissions. So far, so good, just pricey in this day and age.
User 56KV.92 Performance pro Modem Rohs Controller Pci Reviews
100% Reliable Real Modem . The 3CP5610A (005610-01) 56K Performance Pro Modem (PCI Internal) is a fantastic modem. It is not a cheap winmodem. Here in Albuquerque,NM the phone lines are beginning to deteriorate. This is the only modem that connects at the maximum line level of 49.2 Kbaud. I bought one for my wife in August and now wish to add one to my 4 GB E6850 Core Duo 2 3.15 GHz machine. I detest the fact that the telecommunications companies in this area are charging $50.00 to $75.00 USD/month to connect at 7 Mbaud. I really don't need to download music and videos but I need an excellent and reliable connection. I recommend this modem as a backup for cable modems. When Broadband over Powerline connectivity comes here I will still be using this fantastic tool as a backup.
User 56KV.92 Performance pro Modem Rohs Controller Pci Opinions
Works OK Not great . I am on a very old ATT phone line and my other modem kept dropping the line, read good reviews on this one and it does not drop the line as often, but connects at a slower speed. Was going to send it back, but decided it was better to stay connected at any speed, 21,6 than be in the middle of a pogo game and the line to drop. I called USR and they were not any help in getting a higher connect speed. It also takes a long time to get connected in the first place. ATT does not offer DSL in my area, they had rather spend their money buying other phone companies than take care of the customers they already have.
Excellant Modem . This is my second purchase of this modem as the first was fried by a near by lightening strike. After trying several modems with poor results, this modem gave the best performance with quick connections and never a dropped line. The transaction was perfect and I received the shipment even before the promised delivery date.
US Robotics 5610C Internal Fax Modem . This modem works well, but somewhat on the expensive side. Kind of been a fan of US Robotics as over the years as I have had several. All have worked without issue, easy to set up. Getting hard to find an external fax modem these days. Apparently fax modems are going the way of the dinosaur. But some people still do not have email capability and I am requested to send by fax, so I purchased for insurance in my new Windows 7 computer. It requires a standard pci slot. I would have prefered an external as was my last unit. I like the lights to verify what is going on. But none were available except for serial input. Most computers no longer have serial ports including mine.

This modem comes with basic Phone Tools software. It works well for what I am asking of it. But for some, it may not have enough features. Check closely and check specifications.

This review is from : Motorola Netopia ADSL 2+ Modem 10/100 & USB Firewall Security
works fine in bridge mode no filters included . It works with my ATT DSL service in SF Bay Area. Because I have my own router, I set it to bridge mode to avoid the double NAT problem described by some reviewers here. The product arrived from Amazon.com in a stained white paper box. I thought it was an used or opened item but all parts inside appear new. I would not give it 5 stars because it runs hot and the case does not provide good ventilation. I guess it is a consumer-grade device designed for a price point. For about 1/2 the price of the modem kit sold by ATT, this is a good deal. However, unlike the ATT kit, it does not include any DSL phone line filter. Therefore, a buyer with new installation has to get the filters separately.
Motorola Netopia ADSL 2+ Modem 10/100 & USB Firewall Security Reviews
Good Enough for Now . I bought this modem to replace my Speedstream 5100. I use a router in my house because there are multiple people that have laptops. However, this modem doesn't work well with the router. So if someone needs to use the internet they have to connect their laptop directly to the modem. This problem may not arise with all people. But if you use a router, then beware before purchasing the Netopia. When connected directly to the laptop, the internet works fine. So it's good enough until I update my internet service.
Motorola Netopia ADSL 2+ Modem 10/100 & USB Firewall Security Opinions
Replacement for AT&T Siemens SpeedStream 4100 . I bought this DSL modem to replace the one AT&T supplied because the power button was starting to act up. It was easy to to set up with the software. It seems my connection is faster than with the sppeadstream 4100 too. When installing this DSL modem make sure you have your DSL network password handy. I had a little trouble with that part. But got it figured out. There was no tweaking of the settings to get it to work with AT&T. It was up and running in a matter of minutes. I would recommend this modem to anyone. The price is great too.
Not to difficult to set up . Product works well with my Sonic.net DSL service. Product menus are not the easiest to navigate (thus the 4 stars) otherwise set up was very simple. I did have to put the modem in bridge mode to work with my wireless router (something I did not have to do with my old ATT provided speedstream). Product also worked with my ATT DSL service. Set up took about 10 minutes.
Very surprised at how well this worked . I have to admit I have had a grudge against Netopia in the past. However when I needed a dsl modem for my office (what I wouldnt give for FIOS there), I turned to them because I knew they were a powerhouse in the DSL modem sector.

I have to say that installation, setup and day to day use of the modem is spectacular. I went for the item because it was cost effective (meaning cheap in price but not quality). The installation was very straight forward and I had no problem walking through the wizard to install it. You want to check the firmware version as there may be updates to it, but other than that installation and setup was a breeze.

DISCLAIMER: I worked as a network admin for two years, so I might be biased in saying it was easy to use. It is very easy for someone with extensive networking knowledge. An average user might get caught up, but stick to the wizard and you should be fine.
Works well but software supplied does not recognize Vista Pro 64 . This is my first Netopia xDSL modem, by following the directions supplied it says to install the software to run the installation wizard to configure modem. Sounds good but software rejects being installed on Vista Pro 64.
Continued on in instruction list, manaualy went to its base address 192.168.xxx.xxx, it ran its setup program as its first prompt, recognized Centurylink's system and set itself up with no problems and is working flawlessly so far. Only issue I have with it is that the password field for modem is limited to 8 charaters, so for you security minded individuals beware. Only setup on Ethernet. USB use may require their software to recognize modem as per their sticker over USB port.
Works Great! Does Everything It Said It Would Do! . Received the modem in just a couple of days from when I ordered it and it has worked perfectly since I got it - definitely worth it!
Not compatible for window 7 computers. . I bought this device to replace my speedstream 4100 device that stop working. The price is very reasonable considering that AT & T charges $75 for a replacement. I have DSL services with AT&T and this device is compatible with that interenet; however, you're going to have to call AT&T to get it working. This device needs a code to start working with the AT&T network. I have a new computer with Window 7 and this device is not compatible with windows 7. Its only compatible with windows vista and older versions of windows.I had to installed it on my older computer for it to star working and later put it on my new computer. I had to call my internet provider since I device light up put I had to internet service. They gave me a code and with that my computer finally had internet. It was a little time comsuming to get this device to work. I have a slower internet speed and it keeps disconnecting. If you have money speed it on a divice compatible with the AT&T network like netgear. Its much less hassel.
Great Deal . Received item when promised. Modem is easy to set up and works great. I would do business this person again.

Cons Review
Didn't work for me . I needed a new dsl modem and based on reviews this one seemed to be the best in terms of performance and price. Ordered it, it arrived, installation was difficult, finally got it to work, and then it stopped just as fast. Gave it more than a few chances, but would not hold an internet connection. Returning it and going to try another modem. This one did not work for me.

The combination of 3G mobile broadband speeds and EDGE national coverage provides an ideal mix of coverage and performance. The USBConnect Lightning connects to your laptop via the USB port, and it also includes a microSD memory card slot that's compatible with cards up to 32 GB in size. The USBConnect Lightning makes connecting in more places easier as it can be used at AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots (with a Wi-Fi enabled laptop and qualified data plan). Additionally, it offers global compatibility with DataConnect Global plans covering additional data usage in select roam zones in more than two dozen countries, including many European countries, India, China, South Korea and Japan. The USBConnect Lightning runs on AT&T's 3G High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network, which has upload speeds between 500 Kbps and 1.2 Mbps and enhanced download speeds ranging between 700 Kbps and 1.7 Mbps. The faster download speeds provide an optimal wireless Internet-browsing experience, and the faster upload speeds will enhance users' ability to send large files, such as e-mail with attachments, photos or business documents. HSPA is the latest generation of mobile broadband technology based upon the global standard for wireless--GSM.

Best USB GSM Modem . This modem is much better than the one I used to use. I switched from a T Mobile usb modem to this brand new Sierra Wireless one. It comes unlocked, even though it says it is not in the product description. (At lease mine was unlocked). I use it when I travel abroad, and it works perfectly. The only downside I have noticed is that it eats battery life. I have a netbook that is supposed to get around 8-10 hours of battery life, which it does. However, when this is plugged into it, I only get around 4-5 hours of battery life. Otherwise, I think it is great. It comes with the ATT Communication manager on the device itself, and auto-installs when you plug it in. It also has a Micro SD Card reader, I do not use it, but some people find it helpful. It saves a USB port so you can use it as a USB Memory stick and a USB Modem at the same time. As of now, I have not had any problems with at all. I do not expect to have any.
Sierra Wireless Lightning 305 AT&T GSM USB aircard Reviews
Nice modem... . I've owned this since 2009 and it has always gotten a pretty good signal in the remote oilfields where I work even without an external antenna. The fact that you can plug in a high gain external antenna makes it one of the better modems for rural users.

AT&T software is adequate for most users. Easy setup and "Presto", internet.
Sierra Wireless Lightning 305 AT&T GSM USB aircard Opinions
USB AirCard Modem Sierra Wireless AT&'T Lightning . I ordered this device and came right away, in a few days. Plugged it in and linked up to AT&T's communication manager and has some trouble linking up. Called the Cust Assist and worked on getting new driver software installed via my Wi-Fi and still had a problem. So I downloaded the AirCard Watcher software and it sync'd right up to the software no problem. Then I tried AT&T's manager again and wha-la it now works. I like AT&T's more due to the info on usage and days that laps, and also the WiFi connection link. This Lightning is great and a much faster 3G signal (7.2mbps) than the older one (3.6) I bought 3 years ago. I also like the slim design and the swivel usb connector for the hard to hook up situations, plus there is no battery to worry about on this one. I'm satisfied!
Does what it should . I started to give this 5 stars, then realized I'd been unhappy with and confused by the documentation. The modem does what it says it will, once it's set up with an AT&T SIM card & service (and that's the part that needs to be clearer).
Obviously, I knew I'd need a SIM card and service, but was unclear about the steps I'd need to take to get going.
Once I tracked down someone at AT&T who knew what they were talking about, it was clear sailing.
The other issue I'd point out is that the software (drivers and AT&T Communication Manager) needs to be "installed" before every use (including the PC waking up from hibernation).
This may be a quirk of the Windows 7 (64 bit) I was running on. I have not looked into this further, so this problem may have a simple resolution. For now, I've chosen to live with it.
Bottom line, I have no regrets about this purchase; it was a worthwhile investment.
Great . Device is heavy and is very well constructed. The jointed USB hinge is very useful in many situations. I use the Sierra Wireless branded wireless software and is better than the at&t branded software suite. If you are using this with a mobile phone SIM (not a data-only SIM) the APN's are widely available on the web and do work. I am using this with my iPhone SIM, personally. I get pretty good signal strengths and tested with DSL reports getting very good speeds (greater than tethering to an iPhone,) rating in the megabytes per second. I am very satisfied with this product and have already recommended it to several colleagues.

One thing to note; The vendor I purchased this from advertised it as new but it arrived in non-manufacturer packaging (some generic cell phone package) and was without the USB extension and display mounting clip that would have otherwise been provided with a new and manufacturer packaged item.
Warning: Requires Special AT&T Plan . First off the Modem works well (or as well as the signal will allow). Installation was fairly easy - had to download the software from AT&T instead of reconizing the device and self installation.

My only problem is with AT&T. I had a regular data plan for my smart phone and hoped that I could use this with my sim while I was on vacation. Nope. It worked but AT&T sends you a bunch of messages saying that you need a different plan (extra $45 / month), and then changed my plan to accomidate the modem and not my phone. Once I call AT&T they restored my orginal plan.

That said, if you want celular modem coverage, you need the modem and another Data plan.
works for me . I purchased this item for occasional use. I bought it third party because I didn't want to lock into a plan. I have 2 cell phones (1 personal, and 1 business). When I need to get on the web from a remote location, I set call forwarding on my personal cell to the work cell, then pull the Sim out, and install it into this modem. We were recently on vacation, and the WiFi in the hotel was very bad. This device saved the day. I'll probably only use it less than 10 times per year, but for 40 bucks and my data plan work-around, it's worth it.
Perfectly acceptable Access! . I am currently tethering my laptop to the internet with my Blackberry and am LONGING for my Sierra Wireless USB Lightning. Why oh why did I make the change? Shoot me now! The Sierra Lightning was so easy, consistent, reliable, and much more than adequate. But I thought AT & T made it expensive. I discovered, after selling my Sierra Lightning USB card on Amazon.com, that I saved a grand total of $4.95 to make the switch to a second line with an unlimited data plan. That may mean more to some of you who use your computers more, but I use mine for business and personal use AND I'm writing a book, so I use my laptop a lot. After I made the switch, I found out that the closest Wi-Fi spot to me is a McDonald's 6 miles away and, when I browse for other spots, I'm offered places like Cape May, N. J. (I live in Bethany Beach, DE), so I'm using data time all the time anyway. With the Sierra USB Card, all I had to do was have the card and laptop, then travel and work, shop, answer emails, or update my website where ever I wanted to go. The Sierra USB card was the perfect size to slip into my purse or pocket and I didn't have to fidget with cords and worry whether or not I had enough bars constantly. It was like cyber comfort food. Give me back my Sierra Wireless USB Card! I'd love to be struck by Lightning twice!
Outstanding USB Aircard . Who wants to pay the outrageous AT&T costs and signing long contracts? Get this baby and just pay for the monthly service without a contract. That is how I get data and cellular services by buying your own compatible equipment.

This device is 3G and connects anywhere, airports, park benches, etc. Perfect.

Cons Review
AT&T too expensive . Nice air card, but only if your company pays for the use charges.

AT&T wants $60/month for 5G, and overage charges are horrendous.

I have a contract with AT&T too, with unlimited data and test, and big monthly minutes allowance, and they wouldn't make me a better deal.

Guess when the contract expires, I'm finding a new mobile company. I've already purchased another air card and got a much better deal from a different company.

CRADLEPOINT PERSONAL HOTSPOT CREATES 802.11B/G SECURE NETWORK FROM 3G CELL PHONE INCLUDES AC ADAPTER AND BATTERY

This review is from : Cradlepoint PHS-300 Personal Wi-Fi Hotspot Router + Accessory Kit
Nice Product . When I researched wireless routers I had a choice between this product and the native product from Verizon. I chose this product for a number of reasons: I could keep my old wireless modem, I could buy a second battery which I did, and it allowed up to 16 connections instead of the five. So far I haven't been disappointed with the product, the setup was very easy on my macbook and the range is very good. I use an Airport express associated with my home routers for streaming iTunes and printer data, I set this router up the same way. I didn't try printing yet but I think it will work without a problem, however so far I am not able to stream iTunes through it. It plays for a couple of seconds and then stops, I think the buffers are being overrun. There are some parameters but I haven't made the time to see if they can be adjusted enough to get the streaming to work - it just may be too much for such a small router. We have two macbrook pros, two airport express routers and an iPod Touch and all work great. I haven't spent much time on the road with the router yet but I don't expect it to perform any better than the native router does on Verizon's network. I am going to be very interested to see if and how fast the router resets when the connection drops.
By the way the router easily fits into a pocket but with the modem attached it becomes awkward so you need some place to carry it.
Cradlepoint PHS-300 Personal Wi-Fi Hotspot Router + Accessory Kit Reviews
Cradle Point PHS-300 Kit . A good all round device with some good features like WPA2, the user interface is a little clunky so you do need some understanding of what all the settings mean, I wouldn't expect my Mom to be able to set one up securely. I found changing your USB 3G device settings to auto is a help when establishing a connection. Over all this device will make using devices like the iPad wifi only model a good option for travel. 4 out of 5.
Cradlepoint PHS-300 Personal Wi-Fi Hotspot Router + Accessory Kit Opinions
Awsome! . I bought this so that I did not have to sign up for a new contract for my new iPad. I bought the iPad with just WiFi and not the 3G. I then hooked this up to my USB AirCard from AT&T and it works awsome! Now when I am in the airport without wifi, I just turn on the box and both my computer and iPad pick it up. Well worth it if you are contimplating signing another contract (minimum 2 years) on another device with internal wifi card.

This lightweight device provides portable convenience, and is powered through the USB bus - eliminating the need for an external power adapter and saving the hassle of having to find a wall outlet. With support for PCM Upstream, quick connect and v.44 data and error correction, this external USB modem provides the versatility and convenience needed to get true value from a dialup connection.

This review is from : StarTech.com USB 56K external Modem
Durable and easy to use! . I had originally purchased the TRENDnet-Data-Modem because the price was better, but it was fragile and quit working well after only a couple months. This modem is just as easy to use, but designed much sturdier. Connectivity is terrific, and my slow ol' dialup seems faster!
StarTech.com USB 56K external Modem Reviews
Good Modem . I am pleased with the modem so for. The only issue I had was loading the drivers from the supplied disc. This did not work like the instructions said. It may have been because I am using windows 7. The questions and prompts that were suppose to pop up when the modem was connected to the USB did not happen. I had to open a folder and select the set-up file manually. There were 3 set-up files in the folder. The second file was the one that had the drivers my PC needed. After the drivers were added the modem worked great.
StarTech.com USB 56K external Modem Opinions
not the cheapest external modem . this is as the title says not the cheapest external modem...I was having problems setting this up on my windows 7 os....you must select the windows vista os driver...after that everything ran smoothly...I just had to figure that little problem out..
Great Modem . StarTech modem is reasonably priced, easy to install, lightweight, doesn't take up much space and best of all it works!
Good Modem for a Good Price . I recently purchased this for my laptop, which unfortunately didn't have a built in modem. I am actually using it now to write this review. It works well and I have had very few problems with it. On thing it does do is kick you off the internet if someone calls, something I don't like, but a good feature if you are afraid of missing a call. Overall it is a good product and offered at a good price. I am sure there are better products, but hard to find at this price.
Great design for a portable modem . I installed this modem on a new HP laptop, and it appears to work very well. The weakness in clarity of installation instructions for Windows 7 that has been mentioned in other reviews appears to have been resolved. A new installation sheet in the package took me through a quick install on Windows 7, and I had a great connection on the first try. The modem is light, compact, and very unobtrusive to use. I suppose that not many laptop users have a need for a 56K dial-up connection, but if you do, this item appears to be a great buy.
external usb modem . The product performs as advertised. Small and lightweight. The step by step instal instructions however did not correspond with the windows 7 set up and took some individual know how on getting it to connect. Once connected, works great.

Cons Review
Bad customer and technical support . After reading two only reviews about this product on Amazon, I purchased it. I couldn't make it work with their installation instructrion. It showed that the driver installation failed. On the product package, it listed 24 hours support. In fact, it wasn't; it was like sending an e-mail contact, no phone numbers. I tried to get some helps from them, wrote to them twice with detailed my vista OS and problem of installation. Finally, one week after their technical support guy wrote back and gave me an answer unrelated to my question and problem. So, I wouldn't buy any products from this company because of lack customer/technical support.
Is a bit temperamental . I bought my mother a new computer for Christmas and due to financial reasons needed to get her connected via dial- up. Most new computers not having dial up modems, this seemed like an ideal choice. When it arrived it came factory packaged but with no software so I assumed it was plug and play. There I was wrong, I had to burn the driver software from my computer and then download it to her computer. Worked fine, ...once. Since then almost everytime she wants to go online she has to unplug the modem and then plug it back it. Once it works it does a fine job for dial-up internet but it is a pain to have to constantly plug and unplug it to go online. Also by not including software you better have a friend or relative with an internet connection or you're going to find this modem useless.
DIDN'T WORK . I did everything I could to get my computer to take the software but it wouldn't load. I then took my computer, which is a Dell, to someone else to see if they could get it to work. They couldn't either. It's been of no use to me.

HiRO V.92 56K Lucent Chipset USB Modem (XP 64bit Vista ready/RoHS)

This review is from : HiRO V.92 56K Lucent Chipset USB Modem (XP 64bit Vista ready/RoHS) (H50113)
Yes it *IS* voice compatible . Iv seen a lot of people who seem to have issues with this modem getting the voice functionality to work... It *IS* voice compatible.. But its the way Agere licenses this as a "value added" feature to particular vendors modems that is causing the difficulty
.
Heres the download you need...
http://www.hiroinc.com/2008/Driver/H50113/H50113_vista.zip

Instructions on a third party site that explains how to resolve the issue
http://www.rtopro.com/videohirovista.htm

Im betting that most of you are just plugging in the modem and *NOT* updating the driver .... Windows built in driver does NOT support voice on the Agere chipset!

HiRO V.92 56K Lucent Chipset USB Modem (XP 64bit Vista ready/RoHS) (H50113) Reviews
It IS voice compatible . The HiRO model H50113 USB modem very definitely IS voice compatible and it has caller ID. I have verified both of these features with a telephone answering application I have. It is one of the very few modems I've found for which both of these features work in 32-bit Windows 7 (I haven't tried 64-bit Windows 7). Just make sure that you install the version 2.1.88 Vista32 driver that is on the CD that comes with the modem (select the install file agrmu32v.inf). Update, October 30, 2009 - This modem also works just fine in 64-bit Windows 7, both voice and caller ID. Use the Vista64 driver on the CD and select the install file agrmu64v.inf.
HiRO V.92 56K Lucent Chipset USB Modem (XP 64bit Vista ready/RoHS) (H50113) Opinions
Works Perfectly with Phone Tray . This modem captures the caller ID signal, whether online or not, thus allowing Phone Tray to intercept and deal with those annoyingly persistent telemarketers.
Performs as Advertised . Bought this to use with a new high-end, Windows 7, PC (ordered without a 56k modem so as not to waste an expansion slot). This Hiro installed easily. Works well. Those that might claim it is "slow" appear to be misguided. The unit easily meets it's claimed specs.
Needed The Space . Most people don't know that they can use their computer for a fax machine! Yes you can. But you need a modem and most computers today being as compact as they can be sometimes lack the extra PCI slots so this can be a cure such as in my case to free up one of those slots that was used in my case for a TV card. I do fax from my computer allot and this device has been great from day one, drivers loaded easily and as far as hooking it up plug the modem cable in one end and the other into a usb on the computer "very simple" and as far as price Amazon beat out Newegg and Tiger Direct !
FaxTalk software no longer bundled w/ modem . Clean order (6Aug11) and delivery(9Aug11). But Hiro is no longer bundling the FaxTalk Communicator software as described by Amazon (go to the Hiro site at [..] - see the "News" announcement). And it's been so since 18Apr11!! Would've been nice if Amazon had at least updated their product info, as the Voice capabilities are necessary for a proper telephone answering system (at least in my case) - I don't need a modem uplink to anthing, per se.

Can't really comment on modem performance, since only using for messaging system - haven't faxed anything yet. Tried using an older copy of FaxTalk (4.7se) that wasn't specifically bundled w/ this modem. Get phone answering/messaging, but the sensitivity function is inactive, so the message-allowed-length is thereby determined by my setup parameters only --- if I set up max message length at 3 minutes, e.g., then even if caller only speaks for 20 seconds, modem doesn't "hang up" for 3 minutes. Leads to scratchy empty recording, a non-ended connection on the caller's end, and a "If you'd like to make a call, hang up......" tel company message after x seconds of no one on the line. All in all, a voice-messaging-system disaster.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has this modem for any workarounds --- thanks.

Cons Review
Not worth the plastic it is made of . I only needed this device for faxing, but it quickly stopped working. I tried all kinds of tweaks in the faxing software, but nothing worked. I do need to buy another fax/modem, but I will not bother with this brand.
Data/Fax/Voice but no Caller ID??? . I've got a great program that not only pops up the Caller ID & distributes it over my network, but it will recognize numbers I've blacklisted and play a rejection message on the line & hang up. All I want is USB hardware that can support this without its outdated drivers crashing Windows XP. Vista compatible? Should have modern drivers, right? I didn't even consider that a Data/Fax/Voice modem might NOT have Caller ID. Why wouldn't it?? It's on its way back, so I can't vouch for its other features. But I'm very disappointed.
Low Quality Item Poor Customer Service . Let's face it, dial-up modems on the whole are overpriced pieces of junk. But this is easily the worst model I've had. It stopped working in a little over a month from when I purchased it. Not wanting to start the horrid, time-consuming search for another modem for my laptop (or shell out another $20-$50), I noticed the warranty on the box.

Upon contacting the company as instructed via email, they said I should mail it in to be repaired or replaced. Less than a month later, I received a replacement modem. And this seemed like a decent company. However the second modem worked for about six months, then like the first just stopped working.

When I contacted them again, because it was still under the warranty from my original purchase date, I was informed that basically it had only been an act of charity that they replaced the first one. And they also diagnosed the problem with my second modem without a detailed description or even having me mail the modem back to examine it: it was the result of a power surge that was somehow my fault. Funny, how there were no power surges prior to or when it just stopped working, and that, except when in use, my modem, laptop, and all accessories are turned off, unplugged and packed away. And when in use they are also plugged into an anti-surge power strip. I've had electrical storms fry modems over the phone lines, and trust me, I know what it looks and sounds like when this occurs. And I've learned my lesson not to use them during storms. This acted more like faulty product, something I'm also getting to know well.

This is on my DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CONSIDER PURCHASING list.

There must be a decent modem out there...(but it's not this one)
Modem does not work on a mac . iMac running 10.5.3 (latest) OS. System profiler finds its presence but no recognition by standard fax applications. The very fine print says only PC applications work, but no vendor that I found adversities this limitation.

Honeywell's 7845GSM Cellular Communicator transmits signals to the AlarmNet-G network (GSM cellular network, which uses GPRS to complete these transmissions) and forwards them to your central station. If your current Central Station is capable of receiving signals from AlarmNet Central Stations, they are capable of receiving signals from the 7845GSM.

This review is from : 7845GSMR Ademco Honeywell's Digital Cellular Communicator
Very Desirable ALARM Cellular Back up to POTS lines . Ma Bell telephone lines are so easily cut in these days of the recession. Quickly your location can be compromised by just one high school age kid. This system prevents that from happening !! If the phone lines are cut this sends out an alert to POLICE automatically. It relays all alarm signals (Fire too) to the authorities & can't be cut off externally from the house.Have had one for 4 years in a rural location , now I am getting one for my 80 year old Dad's house because the phone lines on his house are exposed to weather & easily cut or can deteriorate due to weather and then alarm becomes inoperable until telephone company fixes the phone lines. The house next to him just got broken in over Thanksgiving 2010!
Thieves know if you put up an ALARMNET sign they have virtually no chance of breaking into that property easily. the police will be there in 2 minutes or less. Most Businesses have this unit in addition to phone line service!! The jails are filled with dummies who mess with this system.. A MUST Have for vulnerable telephone lines that are easily seen on side of older houses & can be accessed easily with out having a DMARK (grey)Box on outside of property.

Feature 7845GSMR Ademco Honeywells Digital Cellular Communicator

  • Full Contact ID or ADEMCO High-Speed Reporting Contact ID reporting using ECP mode with compatible Honeywell control panels or combined with optional dialer capture for non-ECP capable control panels.

Motorola SURFboard cable modems allow users to experience the Internet without limits, while the gateways allow multiple computers in your home to share one high-speed connection in one simple-to-use device.

This review is from : Surfboard Cable Modem
Works great . The modem works great, and was no hassle at all. The MAC address is printed clearly on it, so I had no problem setting it up with my ISP. I haven't had to do any other configuration on it at all, and haven't noticed any speed problems, so I've had zero issues with it.
Surfboard Cable Modem Reviews
Good Modem . I bought a used one from Amazon as I was not intending to buy a new one and wanted to buy a cheap Cable Modem. The only issue is this modem is not officially supported by my internet provider (COX Communication). Whenever would call them for any issue they would just say that the modem is outdated because of which I have to argue with them and then highlight the issue to them. As far as Connectivity is concerend had not faced any issues.

Cons Review
Doesn't work with Comcast . This modem is on the comcast approved list, but it actually doesn't work. I got it, and had to return it after the comcast folks told me it had reached its end of life.

Very frustrating and annoying experience.

(more annoying though is the fact that comcast won't sell me the modem they already leased to me!)

DIAMOND 56K V92 INTERNAL PCI MODEM

This review is from : Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI Fax Modem
Very nice modem for the price. . I purchased the SupraMax 56K faxmodem and was amazed at the easy intallation, I was up and running in about 15 minutes. Once the installation process was finished I took advantage of the faxing software (very user friendly).Furthermore, since I have started using this modem I am getting connection speeds of 4800+ consistently. I did run acrooss a scenario where one particular ISP did not support K56Flex they would only support V.90 so, I called Diamond tech support and within minutes they guided me to the correct upgrade to download which solved the problem. I would recommend this modem to anyone looking for an affordable, easy to use modem with the flexabilty of V.90 & K56Flex technologies.
Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI Fax Modem Reviews
Misleading . Purchased SupraMax v92 56k WinModem.Didn't say it was for Win 2konly.No modem drivers came with it.Again the ad didn't say that.I would call that misleading.
Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI Fax Modem Opinions
Install disk fail however manual install works great . I do not know if my experience was the same for those that had an awfull time installing this modem. But after force install I was online all in all about 20-30 minutes, sure that should not be the case especially now days coming from a well known brand such as this (was), install should have been 2-3 minutes.

First out of the box, the install disk failed, error something about corrupt or missing driver... that seemd ok the instructions warned of a possible system patched needed, ok so did the patch, same error. Missing or corrupt file... hmmm I wonder how many bad install disks are floating arouund aggrevating people.

This is really a great stable fast modem, feel bad for those that gave up on the install. Anyways, first I had to figure out what driver on the disk belongs with my modem, after a few trial and error and educated guess I identifieds the installation driver directly on the disk and manually loaded the drivers.

But thats not the end of this story. For some reason the PCI card barely fit into the case, the aligment was off and could barely fit. I did manage to get everything seated but it was difficult, the plate needs to come in a 8th of and inch, perhaps even a quarter.

My install was in a Dell Dimension tower, Win98se, the old USrobotics finnaly caved in after years of slowly dying.

Modem connect fast and realatively seems to work pretty fast as far as browsing web pages, almost comparable to low speed DSL, really seems that good. Connection consistantly made at 45k, which is very exceptable, the old USR when new pegged 52k alot, and I was impressed, but eventually that card died after 5 years... I have an old MOT 56k about 8 years and still runs very well.

3 Stars, aggrevating installation, bad disk etc., and bad manufacturing, the alignment was difficult to seat properly, very tight fit. After those hurdles, runs very well.

NO MATTER WHAT MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MODEM THAT IS HARWARE BASED NOT SOFTWARE DRIVEN!!! THERE ARE TWO VERSION OF THE DIAMOND SupraMax MODEM MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT ONE!!! Look for the PRO model, it has the on board "DSP" chip... hardware based.

If having difficulty install the SupraMax PRO version, look for the "PCIPROA" on the disk. Otherwise for the NON-PRO version use the multiple install disk folders that are next to the "...PROA".

Cons Review
Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI Pro Installation Nightmare! . Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI Pro Internal Modem Review. _ Installation Nightmare! _ The installation CD V1.0 that Diamond packages with this is missing files and does not run properly. Diamond's troubleshooting tips did not resolve the errors. Tried it on different computers. None of the driver-folder names on the CD exactly matched either of the two different model numbers (?) on the box. Rather than convenient driver (.inf) files that windows could have found, the CD mostly contains unidentifiable executable (.exe) files. Windows XP recognizes this modem as "Lucent Winmodem", and AOL recognizes it as "Aegent v.92 Softmodem", but neither would support the modem's features. I eventually had to go to a friend's house to download the exact drivers off the Internet. What an inconvenient hassle. My SupraMax 56K PCI Pro Modem now has an erroneous identity of "PCIPROA", and it finally seems to work OK. But somebody at Diamond Multimedia should be fired for their incompetence, and I should be able to bill them for the hours of extra time I had to spend trying to get their product installed correctly.

Answer to Steve's Question about the Compaq CF Modem . This is an excellent modem. I've never had a problem with it. However, it is almost identical to the CF modem by Pretec. I bought both and compared them. In fact, it is made for Compaq by Pretec. My advice to Steve, buy the Pretec modem and save some cash.

Siemens SpeedStream Wireless PCMCIA Card (SS1021)

This review is from : Siemens SpeedStream Wireless PCMCIA Card (SS1021)
Easy Cost Effective and Will Save The Marriage . We have a simple wireless network at home with cable modem internet access and we use two of these NICs to for my wife's and my work laptops. I also have a wireless network in the office (using 802.11a technology), so when I get home I pop out the office NIC and pop in this NIC and it works great. With the associated router and access point (Siemens SpeedStream Wireless DSL/Cable Router (SS2624)), my wife and I can both sit in the living room and access the internet without wires, etc. It is great and now we don't have to "share" the internet connection. ;-) Actually, it is good because we both work form home a lot and this allows us to stay on top of e-mails and access resources on the net. I recommend this network for its ease of installation and operation. Truely plug and play.
Siemens SpeedStream Wireless PCMCIA Card (SS1021) Reviews
Excellent real plug-n-play product . It just can't be any easier. A real plug-n-play product. Compared to other wireless 802.11b products, this is definietly the best. Performance is just great. I can take my laptop to the backyard (while my siemens base station is on the ground floor) and still get a very decent signal.I just love this product (specially when I compare it to the horrible cards from microsoft and linksys).
Siemens SpeedStream Wireless PCMCIA Card (SS1021) Opinions
Very Good Product . Using this product, you don't need a access router. I have 2 laptops. One laptop is connected to internet directly. I installed this wireless adapters in both the computers and was able to share the internet connection through my first laptop which is connected to internet. For people with a desktop and a laptop this is a great buy. This setup don't need a wireless acess router. I got this one from circuit city .... I tried microsoft adaptors a week ago and it did not work in peer to peer conection.

Cons Review
Siemens SS1021 Wireless PCM Ethernet Card . I purchased the SS1021 because it has minimal hardware and software requirements which allowed its use with my old notebook computer that has a 166 MHz processor, 80 MB RAM, a 2 GB hard drive and Win98. The only other potential choice was a Microsoft MN-520, but it required Internet Explorer 5.X or 6.X, neither of which run well on my notebook. Most other cards require Win98ME or SE or later operating systems and greater than 200 MHz processors. If your wireless network knowledge is limited, adding this card to an existing could be frustrating, since the printed insructions are minimal and no glossary of LAN or internet terms is provided. My LAN is based on a Linksys BEFW1154 wireless router and two other WinXP computers, so it took me longer than expected to figure out which IP, DNS, DHCP, gateway, WEP encryptation and SSID settings to use on the Win98 system and how to enter them in the SS1021 configuration utility program. Solving these issues using a web-based tech support system would not be fun. After I got the card talking to the router, the notebook crashed repeatedly from a corrupted operating system file, which required reinstalling the system. This was my fault, since I forgot that any PCM card installed on this notebook requires the sound card interrupt and I/O address settings to be manually changed from the default, even though Windows Device Manager shows no conflict with other hardware. A distances of 10-12 from the router, but the data transfer rates seem comparable to the WinXP boxes and it hasn't drop the connection once in 8 hours of operation. When moved to the other end of the house (~75 feet and one masonry wall away) the data transfer and conection quality are unsatisfactory. My HP WinXP notebook's integral wireless system is unfazed in the same distant location. I downgraded my original rating to 2 stars due to the poor performance at larger distances from my wireless router. Here's an update on this card. It quit working 4/27/2004, and on boot-up I get a message that states it is not working and should be reinstalled. After repeated attempts to load drivers and the configuration program, I even reloaded the operating system. The light on the card, indicating it is locked onto the wireless router, is on all the time, even during bootup. It used to blink until it locked on. The config program will not run. Whether it's a hardware or software problem, or a combination of both, the hassle of using this card in not worth it.Final downgrade to 1 star based on Siemens tech support personnel agreeing card had failed (it would not install and operate in another notebook), but refusing to honor warranty since it was bought on-line. The card got very hot when it did operate; I think the heat killed it.
siemens = speedstream = not very compatible with xp and Linu . Started using this card in windows 2000. the config utility that comes with has no option to "discover" the networks and find the available SSID's.Been using it now for a while with XP. The driver is not very good with XP. Might find the network, but very slow compared to a D-link card I'm using in the same laptop. Also, right now, the card can not get a DHCP address anymore. Even though the D-link card still works fine. This even though I have a siemens = speedstream 2623 router. So sticking with the same brand did not help here.My advice: stay away from this brand all together. Buy a more known brand (linksys, netgear or so). Not this one. Not the greatest support. No updated drivers. the router does not support UPnP.Not that satisfied with this product. Would not buy it again!!
Works but very buggy. Not worth it! . Here is my story:As soon as I started the installation, Windows 2000 warned me the driver were not certified. However I just ingored the warning and the installation completed sucessfully. It works with my SMS 2404 WBR wireless router. However the signal strength is always about 50-60%, and the link quality never surpasses 60-70%, even though my laptop is just 3 ft from the router. For reference, my other Trendnet TEW-221PC card works just fine, with quality and signal strength approach 90-100% most of the time. Most anoying of all is its problem with DHCP. 3 out of 4 times I don't get IP address (DHCP). Remove and put it back a few times help. Another trick is change any parameter and "apply" (so that the card gets restarted) also helps sometimes. My other card does get this problem but rarely. Will try to return it next week.
Not friendly for me . I've been having a difficult time setting up this SS2624 router and SS1021 wireless PC card combo to work within my network system. The signal is extremely weak, the SS1021 PC card is currently NEXT to the router and "Link Quality" is at 66%. Mean while, the "Signal Strength" is at 68%. PC card and router no more than 6 inches away without hitting 100% connection rate is pitiful. When I put the router two rooms, two walls away, the signal becomes "POOR" at 20%-30% quality rate... unacceptable.Siemens Wirless Network Card Status icon down at the task bar shows Signal Strength as "No Signal". The only problem is that there IS active connection being transferred between router and PC Card. Also, this PC card would not work at all with a friend's Microsoft Wireless Router. So far by following the intructions, I have been unable to fix the "ACT" (activity light bar) on the PC Card to stay "On". When data is being transferred, the light blinks as supposed to be. The light does not light up when data is NOT being transferred. Instruction states that when there IS connection, the ACT bar should stay "ON" and blink when bytes are being transferred (or when it is activity scanning for a "channel"). ACT light bar in the "OFF" position means that there is NO live connection, which obviously is not accurate in my scenario. I give it such low rating because even if there is something in the configuration that I am missing to complete properly, the signal strength is extremely weak compared other wireless router.
Doesn't work on IBM T22 . I've had a terrible time with this card. I bought it as a present for my son, only to have him discover that it didn't work on his IBM T22 notebook. The store (Circuit City) wouldn't take it back because it was more that 14 days after I had bought it, so we returned it to Siemens (actually, Efficient Networks) for repair. They sent a new one, which also didn't work. We verified that the card works in a different notebook (a Gateway 450) and that other wireless cards work in the T22 (a D-Link and a Netgear). The symptom with the SS1021/T22 combo is that the SSID is garbled and the card won't connect to the access point. I called Efficient today to try to return the card but all they'll do is repair and return it. I just want my money back!My advice -- don't buy this card unless you can try it out in your notebook immediately!
Constantly drops connections . I bought this card because it was the only one the local Office Depot had in stock. I went home to read negative reviews of it, but hoped that I would be an exception. I was not. It constantly drops the connection, I have the same problem that someone else mentioend where I'll be within a few feet of the router and the signal quality will show up as poor (and continue to drop). I plan to return this today. If you're thinking about it, don't buy it.
Not compatible with Windows XP . They have buggy drivers.XP gives a warning when installing the drivers about the fact that the drivers have not passed Windows Logo testing. It will save a system restore point and allow you to proceed.I installed the software. The connection was continually dropping and reconnecting even though I was 10 ft. from the router.I went to Siemens site to get updated drivers and this did not help.Save yourself the headache do not buy this card if you have XP.Read the newsgroups it is a known issue.

Quick and easy to install & it works! . I'm not very hardware savvy, but I managed to install and get this modem working in just a few minutes. Very painless, and it got my computer back online in no time. The included directions were very easy to follow.
Buy from 'PartsforyourPC' . It's a dial up modem. It works like it should. PartsforyourPC gave me a great price and has awesome customer service! Thanks Jeff!

Cons Review
Not what they said . I bought this modem because they said it would work with Windows 98. I just use the internet to check mail and read news, which was perfect for my old computer. However, when installing it said I didn't have the right version of Windows 98, even though I had previously put all updates from Microsoft on my machine. The error message said I needed to download the updates from the internet, but how could I do that, if I couldn't connect to the internet. My old modem broke. I used my account elsewhere to make the purchase.

I had to update my machine.
Won't buy from them again.
