Solid Performer . This seven-port hub is small, efficient, and gets the job done effortlessly. I like the fact that each port has a light to let you know that it is working okay. For anyone who has more than one USB device to plug in, the D-Link DUB H7 - Hub - 7 ports - Hi-Speed USB is a great choice.
D-Link 7-Port Powered USB 2.0 Hub 480Mbps Reviews
No need to look further . I work on computers all day long. I have used many types of USB hubs. Simply put this is the best that I have found. It never fails to recognize a piece of equipment, easy setup, never needs to be reset, and some of the ones I use at work are over 2 years old. D-link is a well respected name in the computer industry. You won't find a better hub. Highly recommend.

Cons Review
unpacked power supply missing . The seller indicated that this product was new. Product did not arrive in original packing - just a bubble-wrap bag and a generic USB cable packed with.

According to D-Link documentation on-line about this unit "At this point you will need to use the power adapter that was shipped with your unit.". No power supply was with unit. Am complaining.

This review is from : SMC SMC7008BR Cable/DSL Router with 8 Port Switch
Does it all! . I've been through the whole progression of sharing the cable modem at my house for 5 home PC's and my work laptop. I started with the Microsoft solution of ICS (I specifically upgraded to Windows 98 SE to get that feature). I used thinnet on my home network and it worked ok but having to have the one PC on for the rest was awkard and it was slow for the kids multiplayer games. I then moved on to a SMC 7004BR router and it was bliss. Easy setup except the printer sharing. Even there I called their support and they walked me through it. I have since stepped up to the 7008BR for two locations I manage and these are better than the 7004BR (Faster too). I cannot recommend them enough.
SMC SMC7008BR Cable/DSL Router with 8 Port Switch Reviews
This Router\print server works GREAT! . This makes networking a BREEZE! I unplugged the cable modem, connected an Cat5 cable from the modem to the router, connected the computers to the router, and plugged my printer into the back of the router. Booted up the cable modem. When it was ready, booted up the router. Then booted up the computers. I set up the new printer port on each computer, and in Internet Explorer Unchecked "automatically detect network settings" That was it!! 5 computers online with 576kbs download times, all printing to one printer without all the "sharing" set up hastles!I highly recommend this for anyone!
SMC SMC7008BR Cable/DSL Router with 8 Port Switch Opinions
Fast easy no hassle . The unit installs easily, seems to work fine. Download speeds are just about even with my old Linksys BEFSR41, but the printer port and backup modem port are very nice additions. I'm very happy with it. My only gripe is that the only printed docs are a quick-reference card - the manual is on a CD-ROM, and I'd have preferred to get a hardcopy, too.
Great for a home network! . I just set up my home network for three PC's and a Mac, and I am very pleased with the results. Now, I'm downloading MP3's and music videos at blazing speeds from every computer in the house. I enabled the print server for two of the PC's without difficulties and even got my intranet web server to work. I can't wait to host a networked computer game. The configuration of the router was fairly easy, but could have been more straight-forward. The manual was written for people who get their IP addresses assigned dynamically. I have my own static IP address and had to fiddle with the menu options. (Fortunately, I just finished a Cisco CCNA networking class and was confident with my solution.)
SMC SMC7008BR Cable/DSL Router w/8 Port Switch . This is a great NAT Router. I will not bore you with repeating all the tech specs, but the install was quick and easy. The chassis is made of metal, and uses a standard PC power cable. (Yep, you don't need an special power adapter). It has a nice large power switch on the rear also. The only problem I had was installing a HP DeskJet 722c printer. The problem is caused by the HP drivers. HP specifically writes drivers so that one must purchase a JetDirect box to network thier low-end printers. Turned out that I had to use 10.1 drivers instead of the 10.3 to workaround this problem. All in all this is a great product that deserves a five star rating.
Can you run a web/ftp server behing this rounter? . Can you run a webserver behind this router? Because you CAN'T do it with a SMC7004ABRThanks!

IOGear 4 Port USB 2.0 MicroHub GUH274

IOGEARs 4-port USB 2.0 hub provides 4 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ports for your high-speed connectivity needs. This device is USB 2.0 certified and provides a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps (high speed). The GUH274 is an updated, portable version of IOGEARs first USB 2.0 hub, model GUH204 this updated version features a smaller form factor and uses Cypress Tetra Hub chip supporting guaranteed 12Mbps bandwidth to each full speed devices. It supports Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP, and Mac OS X or later. The MicroHub 2.0 also supports USB 1.1 devices since it is backward compatible with USB 1.1 specifications. It is very easy to use, Plug-n-Play, hot swappable and portable.

This review is from : IOGear 4 Port USB 2.0 MicroHub GUH274
Minor flaws otherwise works quite well. . This device is as advertised, small, portable, easy to use, etc. It comes with an A/C adapter that is not required for non-bus powered devices. The adapter is useful (and necessary it appears) for bus powered external drives. It has a 3 year warrenty and is extremely reasonably priced. There are 3 minor flaws:1. The device does heat up as noted by the previous reviewer.2. The uplink cable is mounted upside down, so the device sits on its back when connected to my laptop. This is minorly annoying, and I could turn it over, but I'm afraid it will cause damage to the cable.3. This device cannot power a bus-powered device without the A/C adapter, even if its the only thing plugged into the hub. This is understandable since those devices draw nearly the entire 500mA supported by USB ports. All in all, a decent buy, even with these minor flaws, I am very happy with it.
IOGear 4 Port USB 2.0 MicroHub GUH274 Reviews
Good but far from perfect . The first thing you notice is that this hub is impossibly small, and very cleanly designed. But once you plug it in the benefits of the size fade quickly...it gets incredibly hot very fast, probably because it is so small. It just doesn't seem like a good trade off. Go for a larger, more mainstream solution unless size is important.
IOGear 4 Port USB 2.0 MicroHub GUH274 Opinions
Good looking but short lived . I bought it because it looked cute and small. Used it for 7 months, and the middle 2 ports gave up. All of a sudden it wouldn't recognize the keyboard, mouse or printer with those ports.I tried plugging in some other things, those ports can still give power to my cooling fan though.
Micro Miles . Other than two minor flaws this hub does just fine. It would be nice if it could simply be system powered, as are others, without the need for A/C. Also the unit does need some "cool down" time before you put it away.
I like it so far . It is compact for convinience and seems to do a good job so far. I can connect it to my laptop and disconnect it at any moment and all of my peripherial still work properly once reconnected.
The only thing is when I first got it, it made my computer crash a few times when my laptop went into hybernation over night after leaving it on and the screen up. I have started closing the screen at night and it isn't doing that any more.

Cons Review
Worked and then failed . I bought two of the hubs in June 2004. One of them failed in about a month of using it with a HP/Compaq Laptop. IOGEAR replaced it for me. I am now using it with a Dell Laptop and it seems to be doing fine. The other one I used with a Mac for about a year and a half now and it has failed. I am beyond warranty so I will go with a different hub to replace it. It does run hot so I think it must have good ventilation to hold up well.
Same as previous poster . Uncanny, but my hub had the same problem - mine lasted for about 1 year, but now the middle two ports don't recognize devices.

Wierd. When it worked I loved it, though.
Hard crashes on Win2000 . When used on a USB2.0 port on my Win2000 box it causesa hard crash during driver installation. Works OKin a USB1.1 port. Case does get quite warm during use.
The hub chip is *not* as advertised . I purchased this device because of the advertised Cypress Tetra Hub chip.

The product that arrived has an (inferior) NEC hub chip.

Why is the NEC chip inferior?

- It only has a single Transaction Translator. This means that the hub will only go as fast as the *slowest* device connected to it.
- It only supports ganged power switching. This means that you cant send a command to the hub to power off one port at a time.

I guess IOGear decided to change the product without changing the model number.

Great Idea Bad Design..... . This was a great idea for a 4 port hup but it was it badly Designed.
The cables were way to short. It seamed too hard to add more than two extra USB cables because the extra USB slots seemed too close to gether.
Thats my two cents...

This review is from : HP J6044A-ABA JetDirect 280m Wireless Internal Print Server (802.11b)
Wireless print server; cool and bi-directional for scan . I bought the HP Jetdirect 280M print server for my HP 7130 printer/scanner/fax machine. I found little documentation online so had some doubts that it was worth a few times what some other print servers would cost.

I'm glad I got it. Besides printing, the main use, I can scan from any of the computers on my network. I haven't used the fax from a computer, but the scanning works well. You can either do a scan from the "Director" program (or from other applications) where you control the bpi etc., or you can connect using a web browser and scan to a file or scan to e-mail. When I did scan a multipage document to PDF via e-mail, the result wasn't usable, unfortunately, which (along with some install issues) took away one star.

I'd suggest having the printer have a static IP address (you pick one rather than let it be assigned from your wireless router). You must also have your Windows XP firewall turned off when using it (except when using it through a web browser.)
You should also know your existing wireless configuration well so you can configure the printer similarly.

Configuration is interesting: You use a wireless laptop and connect to it point-to-point (not using your router). You could also probably configure it from the buttons on front, as it looks like most things are available/settable there, but browser is easier. After you get it configured, the printer stops advertising its SSID so your friendly hacker next door can't reconfigure your printer quite as easily.

It took me a while to install the software on each of my machines but it worked even on the Windows 98 system. It was 5 hours from when I opened the box until I could print from each of 4 computers. I wasn't rushing, and ate dinner in there. (I also had a few unrelated problems with the wireless laptop I was using for configuration not working on my router, which I wanted to fix first!)

Another little glitch: When I first ran the config program on the CD, which tries to connect (wireless) to the printer, my wireless network saw the printer as an available network, but the HP program said no network was found! I retried twice and then it worked.

One of my systems already had the HP 7130 printer software installed, and so when I tried to re-install I got the "already installed" error. The workaround to this is to run setup.msi (from the CD) directly, which lets you de-install the old version. On one system I got an error about the Java virtual machine not being there (which it was, I believe) but just clicking OK seemed to work as all is well.

I'd have liked something simpler to install, but I'm glad I got this rather than a one-way print-only solution. I didn't want to have to hook up the USB every time I wanted to scan. The unit fits *inside* the back of the printer, so there's no extra desk space or wires or anything. Very cool. The installation instructions seemed pretty accurate and clear, but I'm not sure someone who doesn't know what they're doing would figure it out without help or telephone support. Once it's set up, you can forget it except for occasional update of the wireless security (you don't want the same password forever!) My family loves it.

USB connectivity turns 1 port into 4 ports High speed data transfer rate Backwards compatible with USB 1.1

This review is from : Hi Speed 4 Port USB Hub 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub
Awesome hub at an Awesome price:) . I bought this hub and was a little worried after reading the insert. It says may not work for high power hardware (printer, scanner, camera, etc.) and I thought "What the h@## are people going to use it for then? How many mice and keyboards can one have? 4?". So I connected my scanner, printer, external hard drive, and tv tuner to it. No problem! Everything is running without any issues. It can't be beat for $12. If your on a budget and need a product that does it's job, get one of these. Or get 2 and hook them together (making it a 7 port hub)for less $$ than most 4 port hubs.
Hi Speed 4 Port USB Hub 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub Reviews
Great Product . This USB Hub is simple to use. Just plug it in and it works. One of the best things about it is that it has a long cable - so you're not tightly tethered to the computer. You can put it anywhere in your work space that you want and it lays flat. Performs well.
Hi Speed 4 Port USB Hub 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub Opinions
Nifty Hi Speed 4 Port USB Hub 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub . Tiny, inexpensive but very useful. I needed the longer cable to reach around to the back of my desktop box because the two front USB ports are damaged.
Works ok but there's a catch . Once I opened it I found out that it needed an "optional" (that means not included) adapter for use with cameras, printers, etc. I just switched a couple of cables around, and it works fine with my mouse and graphics tablet.
small and capable 4 port hub . This comes with a cable from the hub to your pc. While certian digital camera software won't work through a usb hub, my hard drive, mouse, and ipod work fine. If you didn't know this, you have to install your hardware for each different usb port, so I found it handy to initally plug my mouse into all the different combinations so that it would work instantly after plugging it in. The cable that is included has a mini-connector where it hooks into the hub, which was kindof disappointing to me because I had wanted to use an extra long cable I had lying around, but this is a minor detail. This is perfect for laptop users who only have a few usb ports. It is very small and portable, and works great.
3 in front 1 in back Hub . Nice little hub. Worked right away, after Microsoft said it was ok. I didn't expect it to be so small, must be the travel size.
HiSpeed USB Port expander . This was an inexpensive and terrific add-on for my older PC. I had only 2 USB ports in the back that were hard to reach and I was having to swap out all my various USB devices. Now I have the hub on the corner of my desk so it's very accessable. I have 1 caution however, because the hub uses 1 USB port to connect, I had a net gain of 3 ports which are already filled. So, you may want to consider a hub with more than 4 ports if you connect a mouse, keyboard, camera, external hard-drive, IPod, printer(s) etc.
Perfect for laptop and desktop pc when more USB's are needed! . I had bought this for my desktop PC as my rear USB's are full and hard to get at and only having 2 in the front. I use it every time I use my laptop that I recently purchased, it only has 3 USB ports. The port hub is a small item that can be easily slipped into a laptop bag. I have not had the need to use the power capability and have not purchased the AC adaptor to be able to use it that way, but it is a convenient extra added to the device should it be needed.
Need a cheap USB 4 port hub? This one works well . There isn't much to say about this one, but if you're looking for an inexpensive 4-port USB2 hub go ahead and buy this one.

I've been using it pretty solidly for 6-8 months now and haven't had any issues with it. It's cheap, it works well, and I have had no problems with powered or un-powered devices.

Cons Review
Hi Speed 4 Port USB Hub 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub . I am not happy with this product. It seems like my computer does not have enough power to run the items plugged into the hub. The hub does have a spot for power adapter but is not included. I did not see anything telling me what power adapter I would need to buy or where I could buy it. Other then those problems the hub does have a long cord attached that allows you to put it almost anywhere you need it.

This review is from : IOGEAR Wireless 4-Port USB Sharing Station GUWIP204 (Black)
GUWIP204 Review . So far I'm pretty impressed. The instructions included with the device were straightforward and everything worked to standard. It literally acts like an 'extended wireless' USB hub. I've got 3 hard drives and my home printer linked to it and it all works great. The only caveat is that it's true that only one user/computer can access any connected device - but it'll send a message to the currently connected user that you've requested to access the specific device. From there, you can either accept the request and auto-disconnect or decline and keep the connection. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking to expand their home network or make a printer wireless in their home WiFi network.
IOGEAR Wireless 4-Port USB Sharing Station GUWIP204 (Black) Reviews
Great Product . Be sure that all of your USB device's drivers are already installed prior to set up. I am already thinking about purchasing another one of these sharing stations. My only complaint is that the wireless connections need to be redesignated every time you turn on your computer. It would be great if the wireless connections reestablshed themselves automatically
IOGEAR Wireless 4-Port USB Sharing Station GUWIP204 (Black) Opinions
Exactly What I Needed . Received the IOGear 4 port USB sharing station the other day and just installed it. I have to say, it's a pretty impressive little device. It took about an hour to set it up but that's only because I forgot the WEP key on my router so had to reset/rebuild the configuration again. Once that was done, logging into the Station was pretty easy. I've connected 2 USB printers, 1 USB DVD RW and 1 USB external hard drive. All the devices were seen and I was able to manually connect to them with no effort. My Windows XP OS saw everything right away. For that, I give it 5 stars.I'm taking away 1 star, however, because a couple of things that were a bit annoying.
1st...everytime you click on a tab in the configuration software, it asks you for the Username and password. Please, let me log in 1 time, configure in all areas without having to put in the UN and PW over and over.
2nd...you have to set up the wireless configuration, then shut down the Station, then turn it back on to 'see' the wireless network. It won't connect automatically when you first configure it like a lot of other wireless devices. It would have been nice if the IOGear tech writers had put that sentence in BOLD letters. Let's face it, how many of us read all the wordy instructions? So I had a bit of a time with it until I 'read the fine print'.Other than that, it's a great little device, the price was right and it let me connect a variety of peripherals. If you're looking for something like that, you can't go wrong with this product.
Nice device..simple setup . Works great and was very easy to setup using simple step by step guide. I think price is a little high though.
Iogear Wireless . I use this device to connect an embroidery machine to my computer. It's great since it enables me to place my machine anywhere in my home. I was skeptical that it would perform properly but was very pleasantly surprised. Easy to hook up and works like a charm.

Cons Review
Total Disappointment . I bought this wireless USB hub just for webcam purpose, as every Joe Blow pointed out that this gadget support USB webcam before I purchase it. To my disappointment, none of my 10 years of USB webcam collection work at all. It is not a bit rate issue, it is simply that NOT a single driver for any of the webcam can be installed through the GUWIP204 device under WIN7, and all my webcam works if I connect them directly to my computer.I contacted IOGEAR in September, they said webcam is not supported. I pointed out the webcam support claim on page 5 of the user manual, and mentioned that it is not a bit rate issue but webcam driver installation issue through the GUWIP204 device, the tech support said he will contact the product manager and get back to me. Three weeks went by with no news from IOGEAR, ping them on the webcam support issue, still no response as of today, November 4th. There comes a time to admit that I have been deceived by a false claim in their product.Just to be fair, I did test the GUWIP204 with USB memory drive, and did get an average of more than 20Mbit/sec on 4GB worth of transfer. Like I said, I bought this just for webcam.
Great Try . I was very excited when this device arrived. I have a media center in my living room, a PS3 in media room, and a laptop for me and the wife. I have all sorts of things to stream. But unfortunately, there is nothing I can do with this device. After installing the driver, I read all the way down to page 23 just to find out the only one device at a time can access a device. Bummer
DOES NOT WORK WITH LION . Iogear does not have any drivers for Mac OS-X Lion 10.7. This device cannot be configured or used by a current Mac.

This review is from : AirLink 101 AP671W 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless LAN Access Point and 5-Port Switch
Price is right but there are some quirks . I've been using this unit as an "AP Client" (wireless bridge to connect my ethernet (no-wifi) computers to my wireless LAN). I paid about $40 for this unit which is significantly less than competing products with similar capabilities. Setup with connection to my existing Wireless-N router using WPA security was very easy and the unit initially was reliable and performed very well. Like any other home network equipment it is left "on" 24/7 and it never gets hot etc. So far, so good.

After having the unit in service for several weeks without incident, my ISP had an outage with all internet connectivity failing. After my ISP restored service, I noticed that the AP671W was not providing connectivity to the rest of my now-functional wireless network. I was also unable to access the AP671W's built-in web interface to check things out. Re-powering the unit did not help and switching the radio off and on did not work either. Eventually, I had to resort to a factory reset and run the Airlink EZWizard.exe setup program to reconfigure the unit. Fortunately, that is actually a fairly simple process and does not take too long. Also fortunate that I did not have to physically connect the AP671W to my WiFi router as described in the instructions - the unit was able to find my WiFi router and re-establish a connection once I provided the correct network settings and WPA passphrase. This has now happened to me three times and is always triggered by my main WiFi losing WAN connectivity or getting reset. I now keep the AP671W EZWizard.exe program on my local hard disk so I don't have to dig out the CD next time I lose connectivity as it will inevitably be needed again.

I visited the AirLink web site looking for any available firmware updates.... there were none. This is my first Airlink product and so this did not leave me with a good impression. I suppose it's possible that I have a one-off defect in my particular unit but that seems unlikely and since it generally works and I can fix it when this issue occurs, trying to get a replacement is more trouble than it's worth (since I purchased over the internet). I'm using it primarily in my home office so fortunately I'm the only one impacted when problems arise (since I'm the only one in the house who can fix it).

So, the bottom line is that it's a pretty good unit, costing about half (or less) than products with similar capabilities. When it loses its connection the fix is pretty easy (for me at least) but could be a problem for those less technically inclined.

Finally, I should stress that I have only used this unit in "AP Client" mode (connect ethernet devices to wifi LAN). There are five other modes that the unit operates in (Access Point, Universal Repeater, Point-to-Point Bridge, Point-to-Multi-Point Bridge, and WDS Bridge) and these may or may not experience the same problem.
AirLink 101 AP671W 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless LAN Access Point and 5-Port Switch Reviews
Good router but not OS X compatible as claimed . Out-of-the-box this operates as a wireless base station BUT the settings cannot be changed using OS X. Lengthy "chat" with an AIRLINK Techie did not resolve the issue in spite of his claims one could manually interact with the device. Following his instructions I was unable to interact with the unit. It does work well as a base but I needed a repeater to extend my network.
AirLink 101 AP671W 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless LAN Access Point and 5-Port Switch Opinions
AirLink 101 AP671W is adequate as AP client . The AirLnk 101 AP671W is an inexpensive, multifuntion wireless device. It allows you to add wireless access to a home LAN or bridge remote wires devices to an existing wireless LAN.I'm using it for the latter, and it's doing the job. It didn't turn out to be all that difficult to configure, however, the documentation is not very extensive and I had to reset the device once when I accidentally misspecified a parameter and had to start over. Some of the values I had set, like the administrative password, did not reset to the factory-supplied values, remaining as I had set them instead. In AP Client mode, it doesn't appear to be able to wsimultaneously act as a regular access point, so my WLAN's signal strength remains the same. I'm using it to be able to add my BluRay player to my home LAN, which has a wired Internet port and no wireless access. I have not tried it in other modes.Because I wanted to ask a technical question not covered by the documentation, I wisited the AirLink web site and used their contact form to write to the support staff. The support staff at AirLink responded quickly enough, but they had a difficult time answering my question, preferring to point me back to an online copy of the documentation (I already had a hard copy of it). When pressed to answer, they did not seem to understand the question well enough to answer directly. I eventually figured out the answer for myself.Over all, while the device does the job for which I purchased it and it was a good price, paying a little more for a well-known brand like D-Link, Cisco, or Netgear will probably be my choice the next time I need networking gear.
Great for TV Set top box . AP671W doesn't have DHCP so setup IP address manually is a must for access point, access point client and repeater. There is no WPA for access point. The customer service is great for answering the phone.
Airlink 101 AP671W . The product was shipped in a timely manner. It's living up to all my expectations. Thanks.

Cons Review
Doesn't work as AP Client with WPA2-PSK (AES) . I purchased this product along with the Airlink AR675W to use as an AP Client. I already had a Linksys wireless router I figured I'd switch to an Airlink pair for compatibility and to get the 300mbs "n" speed. For max security I will only use WPA2-PSK (AES). The WPA2-PSK (AES) in the AR675W worked fine -- all my other wireless devices connected to it without any problems. But no matter what I tried, the AP671W in AP Client mode would not establish a WPA2-PSK (AES) connection with either my old Linksys or with the AR675W. It connected with lesser security but not with WPA2-PSK (AES). This was my first experience with Airlink & I found the online help, forums, and knowledge base to be useless. I'm returning both products and looking for something else.
NO SUPPORT FOR WIRELESS PRINT . Fast and reliable. I get high speed transfer between my pc and that of my wife. Browsing is made easy as we no longer have to share the same pc any longer.
recommended for anyone out there.Update 9th october 2011
The access point is poor and i can no longer print using my wireless canon mx870 printer. I tried it on my second wireless router Dlink dir 615 and the printer was printing. This is responsible for the downgrade from 5 stars to 2 stars. In place of this get NETGEAR WNR2000 Wireless-N Router or
NETGEAR Wireless-N Router WNR2000 - Wireless router - 4-port switch - 802.11b/g/n (draft 2.0) - desktop - refurbished
Weird (unacceptable) setup/management; requires Windows contrary to mfg. claim . To configure this device from its factory state, you wire it to your existing network and power it on. Then you go to your Windows PC and ... wait, what's that? You don't run a Windows PC, and so purchased this device because on the outside of the box it says it supports "Windows, Mac, and Linux"? Well, surprise! It sure will support those systems as network clients once you have initialized it from your Windows PC. Otherwise, unless you happen to have a network setup to work coincidentally harmonious with the factory default (not super likely), it's a brick. The Windows software in question works, I surmise, as follows. Your new but not-yet-working access point is plugged into the network, and it fetches an IP address. (If your network doesn't work with DHCP like that, then I have no idea how/if it would work.) Then the application is launched (from the same subnet, of course, though the documentation doesn't make that clear), and it apparently scans the subnet looking for the device. It allows configuration via a series of screens and then the device can be accessed and used.

Even aside from that ridiculous procedure (any good access point simply allows you to connect to the IP address it picks up from your network; that is, the good devices fire up their internal web server immediately, which listens on port 80 at that IP for you to connect and configure), this device compounds its weirdness by forcing you to statically assign it an IP address for management access. Note that it *does* ask for an IP address from the DHCP server on the subnet when it's plugged in, but it does not appear to use that for anything other than its own Windows tool. Instead, you have to assign another static IP. That's a real problem, and there's just no reason for it to work that way, at least not in AP mode.

There are other, better pieces of equipment than this. It's not even particularly cheap.

Quality media player and hard disk to boot! . You won't find a better network media player. Plays all file formats and no digital artifacts. NAS storage and access is handy from the network, but copying over the network to it can be very slow at 5 Mb/s. This is very similar network write speed as the WD TV Live Media Hub. However, can load up movies via local USB access to hard disk, or just use it as a network media player off a NAS unit, which is how I use it, and you won't be sorry!!
CiragoTV Platinum Network HD Multimedia Center with 1 TB HD CMC3000 - Black Reviews
Suprisngly Rock Solid . This device seems to be more reliable than the server I have holding its videos. Out of the box it was able to pull videos from the Windows server as easily as a computer would. Little configuration was required since I put "everyone" as having access in the NTFS privileges. I would recommend this to anyone considering purchasing a Media Center PC to consider this lightweight (and far cheaper) alternative
CiragoTV Platinum Network HD Multimedia Center with 1 TB HD CMC3000 - Black Opinions
Nice product . This is a very nice and quality product. I have almost used all different brand of Multimedia players and found this one the best. The only feature which is missing is playing online channel (Youtube, etc.) from the player. You can only play them by buy Playon service.

Killer Xeno Pro Gaming Network Card (Whitebox)

The Killer? Xeno? Pro gaming network card is the high-performance PCIe network card built specifically to improve network performance for online games. Updated with our Advanced Game Detect? technology, the Killer Xeno prioritizes online game traffic and delivers smoother, more responsive gameplay during intense online action in all your favorite MMO and FPS games.

This review is from : Killer Xeno Pro Gaming Network Card (Whitebox)
If you play games and wish to be known as a Gamer . i play COD:Black Ops and used to get around 50-60 FPS installed this (kinda hard doing the software install) and was seeing a steady 70FPS and when the action got intense it went up to 91+/- FPS. Gives a very nice boost of performance when its needed (explosions, many players around you, very fast paced action happening in close proximity) It seems to only boost when there is a higher draw on bandwidth when a normal NPU would remain the same this one is smart and scales to what you need.

the Bandwidth usage controller is EXCELLENT! allowing you to throttle certain applications back a little to get even more bandwidth for the game! be sure to use "ww? dot speedtest dot net" to determine your connection speed and enter it in manually, for mine failed the auto self test.

great device, would highly recommend it to people with mid grade game rigs, the "just playable" gamer would really appreciate this.
Killer Xeno Pro Gaming Network Card (Whitebox) Reviews
Killer Network Gaming . This is a Great Network Card; problably the best there is!
Dose exactly as advertised! It really frees up my CPU and increases my Multiplayer Gaming Speed.

Cons Review
Good Idea for a Product But Lousy Execution . I'll state up front that I'm not a gamer -- I just don't play games on my PC, at all -- I have an entirely separate gaming system for that. But, despite not being a gamer, I still like the idea of this product... Having an entirely independent processor running its own OS and focused on nothing but ensuring that my Internet connection is used more efficiently, and acting to add a measure of extra security -- you don't have to be a gamer to appreciate that.

However, the benefits have been utterly countered by poor execution, in this case...

First, there's a documentation problem, starting with there being NO documentation provided on the CD that comes with this board -- not a single text or PDF file. The CD comes with a set of 5 exe files for installing the software for this card -- different ones for 32-bit and 64-bit flavors of XP, Vista and Windows 7. Naturally, I went to the website to download the documentation, but then I discovered that the documentation seems to belong to the version 5.xx of the software for this card (which seems to date back to 2009?), and does not at all match even a single feature of the version 6.xx software that is either on the CD, or that can be downloaded from the website from the very same page where this out-of-date documentation can be downloaded from.

When I say the documentation is out-of-date, I'm talking about a significant issue, because nothing, including the installation procedure, the way the software menus are organized, or even what anything in the software is called remains the same between version 5.xx and version 6.xx of the software -- they clearly did a complete rewrite of the software to the point where the documentation for the version 5.xx software is completely useless when used with the version 6.xx software. To finally resolve the software issue, I figured out that the newer "Killer 2100" series boards also seem to use the version 6.xx software, and so I downloaded the documentation for that card -- this worked, and I found myself finally having documentation that actually matched the software.

Second, there's a feature problem, starting with what appears to be a deactivation of the audio and USB connectors on this card. When this card was first introduced, various features such as an independent audio system for VOIP communications and independent storage of downloaded files onto a USB drive attached to this card were part of what was touted as being its advantages. The older documentation (and presumably, the version 5.xx software that went with it) apparently enabled use of these features. However, there is nothing in the version 6.xx software for this card that even hints at it still being possible to use either of these features (and of course, they don't seem to have documentation for this card that matches the version 6.xx software), and so it appears that the audio and USB connectors have been rendered non-functional such that they will now do nothing.

There is also the question of the mysteriously disappearing firewall function. When this card was first introduced, another of the touted features was the ability to use its onboard processor as the core of a firewall that was good enough to allow users to cease wasting CPU cycles on their main processor running a firewall under Windows. However, just like the audio and USB connectors, there is no hint in the version 6.xx software of anything at all about a firewall (and again, there's no documentation for this card matching the version 6.xx software that says anything about it). This brings up important questions... Does the version 6.xx software do away with the firewall functionality such that a user must now go back to having firewall software running on their main processor? Or is the firewall still there, but just hidden under the cover and not really talked about, anymore? If the firewall is still there, then shouldn't there at least be a user configurable setting in the software to turn it on and off? And what kind of firewall is it, anyway -- stateful packet inspection? NAT address translation?

Third, there's a usability problem, starting with navigating the menus of the version 6.xx software... Although I'm sure the color scheme was meant to give this software a look and feel something like one of the many games that are out there (a kind of dark and gothic look), what things are "clickable" in the user interface is not entirely obvious, and it's hard to tell if the checkboxes are checked or not. Things that are clickable should look like they are, whether by being made to look like buttons, or being underlined like links, or in some other way that the typical computer user will be able to tell at a glance that something more will happen if they click on it -- and the manual is only marginally helpful in making clear what is and is not clickable.

The useability problem also extends to the manual... While there are five tabs in the main menuing system of the software that represent some kind of effort made in the user interface to organize functions in a way intended to make them easier to find, the manual completely ignores this organizational effort. Instead, the manual likes to jump around from something under one tab, to something under another tab, and then back to some under that earlier tab -- and there aren't a lot of clear headings in the manual that might actually provide a system of order that would cause the jumping around to make some kind of sense. This makes looking up different parts of the user interface rather difficult.

Fourth, there is a bugginess problem, starting with the priority and allow/block settings for each application (BTW, they should have used the word "processes" instead of "applications" -- their settings are actually per process, and there is an important different between a process and an application). One of the few clearly clickable items in the user interface is supposed to allow the application settings to be "reset" -- only "reset" doesn't quite mean what everyone would think "reset" means -- it does not undo your changes to the application settings and bring them back to some set of factory defaults. Instead, it is a way to universally change all application settings to whatever priority level and allow/block setting you've selected on two menu items, nearby.

With such a "reset" button (which really functions as a global "set" button), one would think that you could specify a global setting for all applications (actually, processes), and then go into the other part of the user interface where per-application settings could be tinkered with so that you could set a few specific applications to other settings than whatever you used as a "global" setting. But the software seems to suffer unpredictable bouts of selective amnesia where it decides to forget a setting you gave an application, and this most often happens after you've turned off and then rebooted your computer at some later time -- indeed, I found myself facing episodes of the software having thrown out every per-application setting I had ever made! And sometimes, this forgetting involves changing everything to the last global setting, and sometimes, this forgetting involves changing some per-application settings to something that I had never set any of them to. It's actually unpredictable!

Finally, with this card and its software installed, there are recurring instances in which I cannot get either Firefox or Internet Explorer to start -- I can just keep clicking on their icons, again and again, and nothing happens. This occurs more often when you have the user interface of the version 6.xx software open so that you can use its fancy real-time performance graphs to watch what this card is doing, but it also still occasionally happens even when the user interface is not open. I find that the only thing I can do (short of rebooting) is to go into Task Manager, and stop whatever Firefox or Internet Explorer process is running as a result of previous unsuccessful attempts to start them, and then I can click on their icons and get on with using them. The version 6.xx software may not have this effect on games, but I have to believe that even gamers still occasionally want open a browser to do more mundane Internet-related tasks, such as maybe buy something online?

In short, if this thing worked, and actually did the things it is supposed to do (including the firewall and buffering downloads, etc.), it would be a really nice idea, and I would even buy multiple ones of these to make the Internet functionality of a whole bunch of computers under my care work faster and better. But the implementation in this case is horrible. Did anyone at this company put themselves through a simple "user experience" test to see what it's like for someone to buy one of these, install it, and then use it based solely on what comes in the box? Did anyone at this company do any testing of this software to ensure that settings selected by a user remain set as they intended or that this software wouldn't interfere with the more day-to-day kinds of Internet uses beyond gaming?

These guys have some work to do.

This review is from : Alfa 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Network Adapter With Original Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna
this is perfect!!! . I highly recommend this product!! I bought another antenna before, it found many wifi connections, but only 1 or 2bars of 5, it was cheaper (don't buy antennas which cost around fifteen bucks and they don't mention how many Ghz antenna is). With this one all wifi connections around my apartment went from 2bar to 4 or 5!! Great! I'm very satisfied and happy!
Alfa 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Network Adapter With Original Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna Reviews
Full Power . I didn't expect to see full bars for nearly every network that is in range of this card. The range of this adapter is amazing. I haven't tryed the 5db antenna that also comes this package, but I expect it would perform just as well. The 9dbi antenna is massive but does what its supposed to do. Windows 7 x64 didn't recognize this card without first installing drivers from their website. Also this card is recognized and works well with Backtrack 5, although it does seem to randomly shut down if its not being used for a short period of time.

Works Awsome! . Was easy and quick to install. On first try, the signal went from 2 bars to 4+ bars. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a weak signal...
Useful Gadget . Works plug-and-play on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
Definitely picks up routers at much greater distances
than the built-in wifi. However the big 9db antenna
didn't provide any additional benefit. In fact, the
standard (smaller) antenna that comes with the unit
worked much better (higher throughput) in most cases.
Love it!!! . I am able to reach signal strength 4-5 when I was getting 0-1. SO, I am very happy with this product. It will go with me on every vacation I take!!!
No problems. Seems like a great deal especially for a nontechnical person. . I am so not a technical person but it was VERY easy to install this. I really don't know exactly how it works--I asked someone who does, and he recommended the product to me and thought I could install it myself. I doubted him, but he was right.

The unit is installed on a desktop computer in the living room. We use our laptops in the diningroom (opposite side of the house) and upstairs bedroom (diagonally upstairs). No issues with reception or whatever.
best product in the market . I have owned this product for two years now and never had a problem with it, it works as well as the first day. If you are looking for a good wi fi adapter, look no more, this is the one.
