Moto SBV6220 DOCSIS 3 Data/VoIP Modem Review . Not to nitpick on Larry's "review", but that was more of a personal venting directed towards Comcast for *their* lack of supporting this device. The device itself is not at fault, and should not warrant 1 star. (note: Try and keep reviews a little more focused on the subject matter at hand, and don't let influence beyond the manufactures control affect your opinion). I personally give this unit a 4 out of 5 stars, as it has an extremely high throughput, rarely bogs down as my old modem did, and has VoIP capability's...all at a great price point.
I nixed a star for the lack an included battery to support phone conversations in a power outage. I alleviated this issue by plugging the modem, and my phone both into an old UPS I had laying around. In a power outage all normal wireless home phones would die. Even if the modem worked, there's nothing to power the phone itself. My current setup keeps the modem and phone powered and online for 12+ hours after a power outage.

Don't blame the modem! . I hate when people rate a product poorly because of something that has nothing to do with the product itself. When I look at the number of stars a product is rated to help me decide to buy it or not, I want the number of stars to reflect the actual item and not a shortcoming of a product or service it is used with. So my 5 stars are to try and cancel out the 1 star left by someone that shouldn't be writing a review of the modem, but rather a review of their cable company. I don't actually own this modem, i am still trying to research and make my decision. I can't honestly say anything good or bad about it but the star rating should reflect the opinion of those with valid comments, hopefully this will help keep it that way.

Cons Review
great paper weight until it is supported by Comcast . I purchased the modem to replace the Arris modem that Comcast brought out. The research indicates that the Motorola SBV6220 could be potentially faster and while I was up for that, it was not my primary concern. I just don't want to pay the monthly rent when I can own it at reasonable cost. A further requirement was that it handle phone service as well as I had just started the service. Apparently, it is designed to accomplish all that. Well... all that is moot if the modem is not completely supported by Comcast. They believe they can utilize the modem for data, but are certain that they cannot (yet) activate the VOIP portion of the device. So the next time when you are doing this kind of research for yourself, make certain that the forum/reviews (consumers) indicate they are receiving ALL the features you plan to use.
Another nice feature of these devices is that they can utilize a backup battery when power goes down in the neighborhood. The battery comes with the Arris unit, but you have to go find and purchase it for the Motorola SBV6220.
