PCX1100U installed with AT&T Broadband . Bought this to replace a leased cable modem with AT&T (old modem: Nortel LanCity installed by ISP about 4 years ago.) Received the PCX1100 and installed it same day with no problems. Logged into online chat session with AT&T support - got it registered and activated in less than an hour. There was NO (i.e. zero) user configuration required - hardware or software. Just gave AT&T the ser# and MAC address, plugged in cables, went to the AT&T registration website, and then waited about 20 minutes for them to activate in their system, before giving it a power cycle. At that point everything worked as normal, but faster. Configuration settings if any, were done by AT&T. As delivered it's just a black box to the user, although software exists on the web which allows access to internal settings. QuickStart software CD-ROM delivered with modem for installation walk-thru, but doesn't access internals.

PCX1100 is noticeably faster than previous leased modem.
Toshiba PCX1100U High Speed Cable Modem Reviews
Works great good value . I have the previous version of this product, which does not have USB connectivity. It works flawlessly. It more or less set itself up, I just entered some info from the cable company (AT&T Broadband), like the IP address and the mail server. It has been on 24-7-365 since then, without a problem.I generally get download speeds in the 700 kbps range, even though AT&T claims 1.5 Mbps downloads. But I don't think the bottleneck is the cable modem. The price of this modem keeps dropping. ... I see it is well below that now, with extra features. You've got to love that.I'd be quicker to buy this product because it is a Toshiba than something cheaper from a no-name company. The cost differential is not that high.
Toshiba PCX1100U High Speed Cable Modem Opinions
Reliable . That's the best thing you can say about a modem--it always works.I previously leased the same model [only difference was it was horizontal instead of vertical] and never had a problem with it either. According to my local AT&T cable modem tech, he recommended this model as the best for use with Mac as well.Only minor complaint is that it doesn't have any power switch--ust the usual plug in the back. Now if only other equipment worked this reliably.....
Newer model is available . The Toshiba PCX1100U has been replaced by the PCX2200. The new model is currently available in retail outlets.
Excellent and fast . Ive had no problems with this modem. It is fast, sleek and easy to use. It comes with an easy-to-attach base to stand the modem up or can be flat on a desk.
DA BOMB!! . OMG I just got this hooked up today. It has got to be the fastest cable modem I have ever used. I download on the average of 800Kbps but sometimes slower (where I'm downloading from has bandwidth limitations) I speed tested at circuitcity.com and cnet.com and both had speeds of over 2000 Kbps for my connection speed. It is blazingly fast. If you have cable or are getting cable you MUST BY THIS CABLE MODEM!!
Simple and fast . Quite simply one of the easiest installations for your computer today. Literally remove from box, hook to cable line, plug into the computer, call cable company, and 5 minutes later done. Company needs the MAC address of the modem, which is supplied nearly everywhere you look in the box. Takes roughly 5 minutes for the company to enter the MAC address and have the system recognize your new modem. And finished. Period. It's that easy.
This is the one . Bought the PCX1100u and when I got it found the simplicity and ease af installation. I've had it for three months now, and not one single problem with it. Windows xp instantly recognizes it and no need to install the cd that came with it.I highly recomend this product for any one who wants high speed cable internet service and wants to save on their montly service. It pays for itself in about eight months.
Die-hard cable modem best in breed . After having paid COX some $10 a month for rental of one of these, it became evident that this "investment" would pay off for itself in less than 9 months, and it's on its way to: I bought (a used) one earlier this year, and -as with the original leased one- I have had NO complaints about it whatsoever. It's super-easy to configure, in fact, I never had to resort to any drivers/software that it comes with, to get it to work in my Windows 2000 setup. I highly recommend it: best bang for the buck to get yourself high speed Internet access via cable modem. But first, make sure your home has such a service. It is worth to be noted that you can't do much with a cable modem and without the cable company to support high-speed internet access!

Cons Review
Could be great but ...... . When the Toshiba modem is running, it is running great. However, one thing that the Toshiba modems suffers from is packet loss. This particular model is very sensative to RF signal noise. Because of it's sensativity to RF siganals, you will experience lags of 15 to 25 seconds because of packet loss. Other modems that I have tested are not as sensative and don't suffer from this problem. I would still recommend this modem if you only surf the net. However, if you plan on using this modem for gaming or streaming content off of the web, stay away.
