This review is from : Rosewill RHUB-310 USB2.0 7-Port Standing Hub with Power Adapter
Superlative performance even after a year of 24/7 use . This hub has served me very well for over 8 months now. With its power adapter connected, it is running 24/7, with four external hard drives and a DVD-RW drive (all with their own power adapters), a Bluetooth headset charging when not worn, and a phone charging when not in use, all at once and all without incident. The form factor is lean without being excessively minimalist; USB plugs seat fully and firmly, and there's enough room for those plugs with a little more-than-usual shielding around them. The removable foot for trying to stand the hub upright is silly, unless you're going to glue it to your desk or something. Really, the hub is best laid on its side, as it will just fall over from the weight of the UBS cords attached to it otherwise. However, because the foot is plastic, it is easily drilled through, if you need to bolt or screw a hub to something (e.g. the underside of hutch or shelf), so it could have its uses after all. Throughput appears to be about as fast as connecting drives directly to the computer's built-in ports - I regularly watch HD video from an external disk running through this hub. The power cord is of at least average length, enough to reach from floor to desk with some to spare. I've thrown out a lot of hubs over the years; this one I'm about to order another of, for my laptop.UPDATE: At a full year, this product is still working flawlessly, always-on and generally pumping data constantly through 2 ports with external hard drives attached (my downloads and backup disks), and with at least 5 ports in use at once, during peak hours, often all 7.
Rosewill RHUB-310 USB2.0 7-Port Standing Hub with Power Adapter Reviews
7 port hub . I have tried many small inexpensive USB hubs, and this one has very good quality and has not given me any problems. I'm using 6 of the ports on a full time basis.

Wired Home WH8TH 8 Room Telephone Distribution Hub

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
A simple solution for phone systems is provided with the Wired Home WH-8TH. Uniform distribution of signal is sent from up to four incoming phone lines to eight bridged phone locations. Designed for Wired Home enclosures but will fit most other structured wiring panels. Requires 110 punchdown tool.

This review is from : Wired Home WH8TH 8 Room Telephone Distribution Hub
You're not done shopping yet . This will not mount as a standalone device. There are no keyhole slots. This is intended to mount inside the Wired Home WHEC11 11" Structured Wiring Enclosure With Cover, which will cost you about $35 with shipping. Otherwise seems to be a well-made unit. See Wired Home WHEC11 11" Structured Wiring Enclosure With Cover
Wired Home WH8TH 8 Room Telephone Distribution Hub Reviews
Works as described . I am using this to distribute two Vonage lines throughout my home. It works flawlessly. I am using CAT6 wiring to each room. I will be able to add up to two more lines in the future with the same hub and wiring.
Wired Home WH8TH 8 Room Telephone Distribution Hub Opinions
Does not come with case . I was disappointed that it did not come with the mount plate and cover, another $35! At the combined there are many other less expensive solutions.

This review is from : StarTech.com 4-Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCI Express Card with SATA Power (PEXUSB3S4)
Great w/one exception . StarTech makes excellent devices. All high quality. But...
With this USB 3.0 Card you need to read very carefully because it requires a SATA II Power Cable to supply the ports with appropriate USB 3.0 power.
No big deal until you install it and don't have a spare cable lying around. Amazon has them (by StarTech) for about $6.00, so I ordered 3 just to be safe with future needs. Three more days to wait!
I would love to use the internal USB connection to power my other USB 2.0 Ports. They plug directly into the motherboard, so I would need an adapter of some kind. A hunting I will go!TaosGuy

Cons Review

Kensington Pocket KeyPad with 2-Port USB Hub

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
Kensington KeyPad 2-Port USB Hub:For anyone who has to manage numbers, data, or spreadsheets on the road. No more hunting and pecking on your notebook computer to run the numbers. With the unique Kensington Pocket KeyPad, the familiar 17 key format input pad lets you fly through numerically-based tasks. No need to carry a separate calculator! Plus, in true Kensington style, this is not just a convenient keypad, but also serves as a USB hub, with two built-in USB ports that allow you to connect other USB devices to your notebook. The Kensington Promise: 1 year warranty with free technical support. Requirements: USB port. Windows 98 or later, or Mac OS 8.0 or later.

Good . Very good gadget. The only thing missing is the Backspace key. But the two extra USB are good, although they are not USB 2.0.
This review is from : Kensington Pocket KeyPad with 2-Port USB Hub
Beware OS X users! . Seems like a fine item, very affordable, and might perhaps work well on most systems... but while it says it's compatible with Mac systems above OS 8.6, it wouldn't interface properly with my OS X Powerbook. I contacted customer service to see whether I was perhaps just not setting it up properly, but after some trying of various strategies, customer service sent me an email saying that the device was just not compatible with my system. It does seem like the cheapest keypad for the buck, but I do wish they'd advertise more thoroughly about their compatibility.
Kensington Pocket KeyPad with 2-Port USB Hub Reviews
Nice Design Flawed Implementation . I picked one of these up for use with a 3D Design package, which makes use of the numeric keypad for special functions. Unfortunately, while the Pocket Keypad does work well for typing in numbers or cursor keys, it doesn't actually simulate the numeric keypad correctly. For applications that need to be able to distinguish between the numbers on the top row of the keyboard versus the numbers on the keypad, this device did not work. I wasted a couple hours trying to debug the setup before giving up and buying a different USB keypad (the Targus AKP01US) and finding it was the Kensington that was the problem.

Too bad, because otherwise it's a nice-looking, compact, and good-feeling unit. It just doesn't work right for my specialized application (a 3D package called Blender)
Kensington Pocket KeyPad with 2-Port USB Hub Opinions
Nifty little item. . I have a 12' notebook and just hate fumbling through number keys as I am used to using a calculator and the number keypad on my keyboard. The attachable keypad speeds the numbering process up especially when creating documents in Excel. It also has two additional ports. Great little device!
Nice compact keypad 2 USB ports are a plus . Using this for my wife's laptop, she ran out of usb's and also was tired of not having a numpad.

This a nice item, compact...well made.

Works GREAT! on my MAC . I just inserted into USB port on my MAC PB laptop OS10.4 and it was that simple.
Works GREAT! I like the familiar keyboard--like the 10-key. Only more more thing I would like is a backspace key. Especially like 2 additional USB ports.

Cons Review
Good design but doesn't work with my laptop . I purchased this numeric keypad because it had a standard layout like conventional desktop numeric keypads. To be specific, it has a single, large 0/Insert key where others add the "000" key between the Enter and 0/Insert key. However, the moment that I plug it into my HP/Compaq laptop (running Windows XP Pro), it triggers an overload alert and the USB port is immediately disabled. No workaround.

Feature Kensington Pocket KeyPad with 2-Port USB Hub

  • Kensington Edge: Not just a convenient keypad, but a 2-Port USB hub, all in one.
  • Standard 17-key layout makes data entry and spreadsheets simple even on a notebook.
  • Take extra built-in USB ports with you anywhere to quickly connect any USB device.
  • Slim. lightweight, designed for travel - can operate separately from notebook for less confusion.
  • Easy, USB plug and play connectivity, with a 24" flexible cord - Windows or Mac compatible

This review is from : BestDealUSA 2 Port USB 2.0 Auto Sharing Printer Scanner Switch Hub
Excellent Device for the Price . Automatic: (software based) push/click a button/icon or manual (press a button), which is how I use it. The application is switching an external hard drive between two machines. Note: You must dismount the drive before you can switch it. This appears to only be covered in the instructions you receive with the unit. It works well for a device that is as competitively priced as this unit is...
BestDealUSA 2 Port USB 2.0 Auto Sharing Printer Scanner Switch Hub Reviews
Neat Unit . I obtained this device to utilize an HP printer for two computers, one Win7/64, the other WinXP/32. It works very well, but expect a reboot after installing, esp. if you have to install new printer drivers on the other machine as I had to. Since these were HP drivers, you know this is not always a brief process--HP always seemed somewhat murky on the Steve Jobs "user friendly" concept (To be fair, however, when the HP printers I have finally get to functioning properly, they are superb). After considerable messing around with the new HP drivers, everything was fine. This was NOT the fault of this great little A/B device, the printer drivers I had to install for the new computer were the whole problem. There is a round icon that goes into the tray which is either green (indicating the printer is available for the computer) or yellow (indicating the other computer has access to the computer). Very simple to click the icon if it is yellow to get access to the printer, the device makes a low-volume click noise when the switch occurs. This is a very small device also, about the size of a matchbox so much smaller than I expected. There is a mini-DVD which installs the software quickly, be aware there are no USB cables which is no big deal---just pick up a couple at Radio Shack or here on Amazon, very inexpensive. Five stars for ease of use, installation, space-saving design and cost.

Hawking 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub UH204 USB Hubs

This review is from : 4PORT USB 2.0 Hub External Power Replace UH204
works fine except for... . If you think you can use this to attach a Seagate Free Agent Docking bay - the kind that uses 2 USB ports to drive a Seagate Free Agent External Disk Drive - you'll be disappointed. The disk drive won't be available to your PC if you connect its two USB plugs into this device.

Also, Memory Sticks like the SanDisk Cruzer micro 16GB are a bit too wide to be able to share this hub with more than one other attached USB cable, and that's only if you use diagonal ports on this hub.

I bought this expressly to accomodate my Seagate Docking Bay and to free up to ports on the back of my PC. I'm using it for other purposes until I get a replacement.

You can indeed attach 4 standard USB cables to this. So, most of you will probably find this device acceptable.

Outstanding . This is a great item. I have been using one simular for years and need one for my daughter ~~ she is happy
Works Perfectly . This USB Hub works perfectly just like advertised. It doesn't require external power and provides four usb ports.
4PORT USB 2.0 Hub External Power Replace UH204 Reviews
Wrong title . This product is fine to give you more USB 2.0 ports, but is NOT externally powered. I have both kinds of hubs and this has no external power connection -- can't imagine why it's titled that way. I have no problems using it as a USB hub for most devices, but it very well may not support USB devices that have a high power draw.
works great . I have had no problem with power with anything I have attached to this yet. It does work well and the cord is sufficiently long for what I need.
Does the job at an inexpensive price . Inexpensive, easy to use, works fine - what's not to like. In fact, I liked it so much I even bought a second one that I can use at work.
has worked perfectly . It's worked perfectly.

Naturally, I would have preferred a 4 or 6 foot USB cable, but good luck Charley.
4PORT USB 2.0 Hub External Power Replace UH204 Opinions
4Port USB . Somethings work with it and others won't. You have to just keep trying different things to find out what does or dosen't. Fine for what I needed but am not entirely pleased. I expected everything to work, wrong. It is hit and miss in my book.
what more do u want to know?? . well, it's a freaking usb hub. it's got four ports, it works, it looks like that picture on the top of this page, and it's only $16.
Stop hesitating, If u want it just buy it already.

Digital Wireless Transmission Hub

This review is from : Acoustic Research Digital Wireless Transmission Hub
AR Digital Wireless Transmission Hub Review . This is a great way to go if you don't want to run speaker wires to the back of your listening room. Don't know if it would satisfy a true audiophile, but it works great for my 7.1 system. It really makes movies into surround sound.
Acoustic Research Digital Wireless Transmission Hub Reviews
Works perfectly no problems at all . I got this to use with my Wireless Digital Headset. It hooked up perfectly and I've had no problems at all. I like that I don't have to tune in to it, my headset picks it up automatically. The sound it's sending to my headset is crystal clear. The only reason I give this 4 out of 5 stars is that I'm not happy that the receiver is separate from the headset.

Cons Review
Do not buy. Terrible experience. . Take my warning: stay away from this product, as well as the AW920 speaker.

The problem was that we were getting very loud interference intermittently on our speaker and it would only go away if you powered off the hub and powered it back on. Major hassle for us; startling noise for our backyard guests. I called the manufacturer, Thomson Inc, to find out why this was happening, but there's ABSOLUTELY NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT available.
Instead, I got a non-responsive agent telling me nothing more than to send it in under the warranty for replacement. I then asked to speak to a manager because I was very unhappy with the customer service, and she told me that there was no one else I could speak to. Unbelievable.

Do not buy - look elsewhere.

Belkin Ultra-Slim Series 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub (F4U040v)

Price : Too low to display
BUY NOW
This USB hub provides quick access to 4 USB 2.0 ports and is ideal for connecting an external hard drive, mobile phone or any other USB device to your computer.

This review is from : Belkin Ultra-Slim Series 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub (F4U040v)
A fine little device. . I have a few favorite peripheral manufacturers, Belkin has always been high on the list, it's nice to be able to go with what you know.

But- there is no shortage of USB hubs from which to choose, so I was curious if this one had anything to make it stand out. Decision? Not really. I don't know if anyone would care about a real test of data transfer speeds - vs. another product, powered vs. unpowered, direct connect, etc.. so for the sake of brevity we can skip that. Besides, I am sure those numbers will show up here sooner or later, even if only copied from Belkin's spec sheet.

About the size of (and slightly resembling) a 10-hole diatonic harmonica, it is indeed "ultra-slim". the fact that it is powered is a plus, but it's actually hard to tell from the packaging- but if you heft it first you'll appreciate there has to be more than the unit included.

Comes with a fairly standard AC adapter and a mini-to-full sized USB male. What I found unusual about this cable was that it is white, the first non-Apple cord I have seen of that color.

Whatever.

Unlike another reviewer states, I did not find it necessary to be powered in order to work correctly- at least with USB drives; larger peripherals- printers, scanners- will probably require it.

As far as USB drives, the 4 ports are placed too close together to allow more than 4 of the slimmest you can find too fit, even at that they tend ot fan out a bit. Why anyone would need to do this is questionable, although working in IT there are times when I do in fact transfer a lot of data back and forth- it could be useful for making multiple copies across several drives, but if this became more than a once-and-awhile thing, I'd pick up a different model.

However, 4 standard USB plugs fit perfectly- obviously the design target- or 2 and a larger device. I found the perfect place for it too- it fits perfectly attached to the lower left side of my monitor, courtesy of Scotch Permanent Mounting Tape, 1 Inch x 125 Inches- so instant added four-port expansion conveniently located, as well as a mini-USB plug for a direct connect to some other devices I had. How nicely 2 Amazon products solved a problem I didn't even knew I had!
Belkin Ultra-Slim Series 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub (F4U040v) Reviews
Sync four handhelds at same time . I'm using this on my iMac with three iPhones, and an iPad. I was able to update the software on two of the phones, and sync data on all devices, all at the same time. It does charge the iPhones (all at same time), but does not charge the iPad (but the iPad has never charged off my keyboard due to its power requirements). It has a nice, slim design, is compact and doesn't take up much room. The performance is great. This is a big improvement over the USB buss in the keyboard, which only allows for one device at a time. I plugged this in on my iMac keyboard USB buss connection, and the power supply is plugged into an outlet (very simple to install and operate).
Belkin Ultra-Slim Series 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub (F4U040v) Opinions
Belkin USB Hub . The Belkin 4-Port Ultra-Slim Desktop Hub comes complete with the USB connecting cable and a power adapter. The label states that it is "powered" so I expected to need the power adapter for it to work. Yes, that's all I needed, another cord to add to the already tangled mess near my computer plus finding a spare outlet to plug it might be a problem. I am happy to report that this hub works perfectly on my desktop PC WITHOUT the power adapter. The hub does not include any instructions whatsoever but that is also not a problem. My Vista (I know I need to upgrade) computer instantly recognized and installed the hub when plugged directly into the computer and also when piggybacked onto another hub. USB devices plugged into the hub were also instantly recognized and functioned properly in both instances.

I would not hesitate to recommend this USB hub. It appears to be well made and in my opinion lives up to quality standards I would expect from a Belkin product. The hub is small enough to fit into a laptop case for portable use. Although it seems to work well without the power adapter, I like the fact that one is included to support devices that might require more power than the computer connection alone can provide.
Portability is the key here . This unit is a straight-forward USB hub, allowing you to turn one USB High-Speed bus port into four comparable ports, each with data transfer speeds of up to 480MB/sec. I tested this unit with my Mac Pro and found it worked as indicated, with a Vendor specification of Genesys Logic rather than Belkin, indicating the origin of the hub's design. I compared it against Belkin's 8.8 ounce Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-port Hub F5U234v1, which I already had installed on my Mac. The two hubs work similarly in that the power cord probably won't be necessary for any but the most power-hungry USB accessory. I never have my standard hub plugged in, and found I didn't have to bother with the cord on this one either. That said, if you have several daisy-chained hubs, your mileage may vary and you may find the AC cord a necessary evil. The older Belkin hub is currently $18.03 while this one is $29.99. So what do you get for your extra $12? Actually, you get less - about three ounces less. This hub is tiny, barely larger than the space necessary for the four USB ports, the mini-port to plug it into the computer, and the AC cord port. And it is very light, so this is really best suited for the portable crowd. Otherwise, there's no reason not to spend a little less and get the larger unit. The larger unit also has an advantage in that it has LED's to indicate that it is plugged in as well as to indicate which USB port is active (something plugged in AND turned on). So if you're buying for something that will fit in your laptop case or that you'll be toting around, and you think it's worth $12 to save three ounces and a small amount of space, then this is your hub. Otherwise, its actual function differs not at all from earlier heavier models. Five stars - it does exactly what it's supposed to do in just about the smallest amount of space possible.
Works Great Can Use Powered or Not . This is one slick little USB Hub. I mean, they all do the same thing, but this one LOOKS great. The case is black in the picture, but what you don't see is the white accents on the side, plus the USB cable provided is white. A+ for aesthetics.Hub works great. It's tiny and lightweight, perfect travel piece for a laptop. You do have the option to power it for devices that need that and a wall-wart power supply is provided. I use mine at my desk PC so I keep it powered and plugged in. I honestly think it makes my klunky Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 with the egg-shaped RF receiver work smoother! There are other hubs out there that probably cost less, but this one has it all. Works great, looks great, tiny and light, and the option to power it if needed with the included power supply. I'll be buying another one of these for my wife's PC and probably one for my laptop. I'm getting old and cranky, and don't want cheap things in my life anymore, lol. I'll spend a bit more for quality. Good job Belkin!UPDATE 9/23/2011: It's true, this little powered hub solved the signal issue with the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 - Metallic Black (63A-00001). Plugging the receiver into this hub with the power supply attached is what the mouse receiver needed. Maybe any powered hub would have worked, but I do like the quality of this Belkin hub, cheaper devices have literally fallen apart in my hand. This one feels well made.
Works great! . Thumbs up for the Belkin Ultra-Slim hub!

I tested this hub with several different computers running several different operating systems (they were all Macs--two different MacBooks, a newish iMac, and an ancient 4G tower) and it worked flawlessly. I tested it with my PS3 as well, and had no problems there either. My previous hub was from 1999, so this was a huge, huge step up in data transfer speeds. Also, the old hub came with a huge "wall-wart" style power adapter, whereas the Belkin comes with a slimmer, space-saver type power adapter, which was nice.
Note: This hub requires an electical outlet! . The Belkin 4 Port Ultra Slim Desktop hub is extremely small and slim. Very sleek and unobtrusive. Works fine. But nowhere in the description of the item does it indicate that this hub requires an electrical outlet, to plug in a power adaptor. Unless the term "desktop" implies that. The power brick is of course much larger and heavier than the hub itself. I see that one reviewer indicates that it works without the power adaptor, but this option isn't indicated anywhere on the package. In fact, there is not information provided with the item, so I am assuming that you are supposed to plug it into power, then attach to your computer. It's a nice hub, but you have to have space to plug in yet another big old power brick. sigh.
Works Great~ probably more beneficial to PC users . This is a very handy little device that is both slim and extremely lightweight. When it sits on the desk it isn't very noticeable and makes it very easy to quickly switch the cords between my desktop and my laptop. I'm a Mac user and this device works just fine with my computers. I didn't notice any appreciable slow-down in communication while running devices through this USB hub either, which was great.

My only complaints:

There are two cords for this very small device, one for power and one to connect to the computer, and they are different colors. I'm sure they had a reason for making one black and one white, but I thought it looked a little tacky. If you are able to tuck it back behind something so it's not visible, this won't be an issue.

I also wished that the device didn't require it's own power source. It would be nice if it could draw power directly from the computer so I didn't have to sacrifice a separate plug for it, but that's not a deal breaker.

Conclusion:

Since the USB ports on my Macs are fairly easy to access, this isn't something that I really needed, but if I was running a PC with a tower and all the USB ports were on the back, I think this device would be invaluable. It will give you easy access to a USB port without blindly searching in the back of the tower, and it will take up very little room. It's only a little bigger than a pack of gum.
A Nice Lightweight Hub that may suit you if your desktop space is scarce. . The Belkin 4-Port Ultra-Slim Desktop Hub is a nice little addition to any computer system. I have used it on both a Mac and PC and it works fine, recognizing anything plugged into it.

The slim design is not much bigger than a standard size pack of gum and weighs very little, which is both a benefit and a drawback. The obvious benefit is that it is great for traveling. The disadvantage is that it is almost too lightweight for a desktop hub, especially if you are actively plugging and unplugging constantly. In other words, it easily slides around on your desk unless you hold it down, unlike some other desktop hubs that weigh a little more.

If you use a bunch of USB Flash drives at the same time you may want to consider a different hub, since the spacing of the ports does not really accommodate two being directly next to each other.

This USB does not need to have the included AC Adaptor plugged in to operate, depending on what you want it to do. To charge devices you definitely need to plug it in. (The packaging states that this hub will not charge an IPad. I don't own one so I cannot check that out.) You will also need the adaptor to power and external hard drive. I tried plugging my Western Digital Passport into the hub then into my MacBook Pro to see if it would work, but no deal. The drive light lit up, the drive did not spin at all. Looks like if I am traveling with the Belkin hub I need to carry another plug with me. Have you noticed that many places that offer free Wi-Fi often do not have many (if any) AC outlets anymore?
You do not need power for synching or using low power devices. My flash drives worked fine without the power cord being connected.

The design of this hub is slick, both the power and mini USB cords attach on the right side, which depending on how your desk is setup may or may not suit you. There is no LED on the device, so if you accidently pull the plug, you may not notice that your IPod is not charging, but to be honest with you the light on my other USB hub light up the whole room in a brilliant bright blue light, so I don't miss not having the indicator light.

Overall, am very pleased with the Belkin 4-Port Ultra Slim Desktop Hub. As I mentioned before if you do a lot of plugging on unplugging you may want something with a little more mass to it, On the other hand, if you keep the cables attached and just unplug the cord from the device end this hub would be fine. A piece of Velcro may also help you out. If space is at a premium on you desktop, you should seriously consider this hub.
Very Small Size Worth The Money Unit That Sells For About 40 Bucks ! . Belkin's Ultra-Slim Desktop Hub adds four quick-access USB ports to PCs, MACs, or laptop/netbook. I'm using it connected to an external hard drive, but it can be used with smartphone, or other USB device with your computer. It adds four additional USB ports to your system. It's a plug and play device and does not require drivers. Belkin provides decent pricing, considering what you get for the money, ease of installation, and has multi-uses.
