PowerNet 100 ****AWESOME!!!**** . This product is amazing!! I just plugged it in and changed the settings on my tv and blu-ray player to wired, and it was good to go. The speed is a lot better than wireless. I was having to wait a long time for videos from Hulu to load and that was at SD quality. Now they load almost instantly at HD quality! I would recommend this to anyone trying to get a reliable high speed connection to their AV components. The price at Amazon was more than $300.00 less than in store!! (I bought two sets) Great product.

Does what it's supposed to do . I would give this review a 5 but i purchased a Monster Powernet 300 which was not compatible with a product that I got from Directv. I had to purchase this unit and now it works properly. Remember not all Monster products play friendly with with their competitors.

An outstanding product and solution. . I have 4 PowerNet 100s and 1PowerNet 300 in my house. The connection speed at all access points is IDENTICAL to being connected directly to my router. Granted, I do have a particularly small house.

Incredible bargain . At the price Amazon is selling this for, it's a steal.
It's truly plug and play. No setup required; just plug a couple in and they work right out of the box. Performance will vary widely based on your home's wiring. Depending on where I plugged in the "starter" unit with the ethernet connection (from my broadband cable modem), I saw Internet connection speeds vary from 400 to 7000k. (Not sure how accurate that test was, but it's a useful comparison because I got repeatable results.) I have two circuit breaker boxes, the second one added when I did a home addition to my 75 year-old house, so the performance variation is understandable.
I also have a complicated home wi-fi network, with two Apple Airport Extremes, an Apple Time Capsule and three Airport Express Units. As you can imagine, the house is pretty well covered for wireless connections, but I have a couple of devices -- a Blu-Ray player and an old laptop -- that require a hard-wired Ethernet and I didn't want to add any more Airport Express units to the network. Just because these Monster PowerNets were so cheap, I thought I'd give them a shot. The Time Capsule and one of the Extremes are wired from the Comcast modem, so I was able to use them as Ethernet routers and test several different locations for the first Monster PowerNet 100. The location that worked best was in the basement near the circuit breaker box. The connection that was the slowest was in the new addition next to the cable modem.

Networking Made Easy . I'm using three PowerNet 100's to connect two PC's in my office with the internet cable modem and router in the attic. Basically, it's just plug-and-play with these modules to create a LAN over your house wiring. Saved me thousands in rewiring costs and has all the speed necessary for broadband internet. I was so pleased, I just purchased a PowerNet 300 to connect all of my home theater units downstairs.
Great way to extend internet in the house . After getting my new Blu-ray player which supports streaming from Netflix over the internet (no wifi support), I realized that it would be really difficult to extend an ethernet cable to my entertainment system. I thought about using a wifi bridge for this, but remembered that it might be possible to use the AC power lines to carry the internet signal. Many years ago I read about the technology and I believe that back then this approach was unstable and expensive, but it looks like technology and price have both improved dramatically in the last few years.
With 2 of these modules, I was able to easily extend the internet from my dsl router over to my entertainment system. It's been rock solid and speed seems great for streaming Netflix.

Plug and Play . UPDATE: When I bought this item, it was less than 1/4 the price it is currently going for. Any comments about the good price are now outdated. I guess the good price was just a mistake and my good fortune at the time. If you see it for $45.59, which is what I bought it for, it's a great deal and snap it up. But with the current price at $199.99, I have to take away some of my stars. You'd be better off buying one of the models that costs around $100.

While I think the design is ugly, most of the time you aren't even going to see these, so who cares. The important thing is that it works and works well! It is truly a start up kit coming with not only both devices, but two Ethernet cords to connect them. The supplied cords are a little short, but you'd buy these for something close to an outlet anyway, so again, no big deal. Plug one device into the power plug near your router, plug in the Ethernet cord to the device; then grab the other one and plug it in near your X-box 360 or Blu-ray player (those are the two devices in the house I tested it on) and you're good to go. The lights start flashing and they sync up without additional effort on your part. Another good thing is the plug doesn't have the annoying one prong bigger than the other grounding to it, so you can plug these in upsidedown if space is tight on the outlet you are using. While I was playing video games over the connection, I didn't notice any slowdowns or drop outs. I've only had it about a month, but since I was considering spending double the money, I am very pleased I found this device for this price. It is cheaper than the X-box 360's own wireless adapter and you can use it on any device you choose. 3/4 Not to shabby . Don't expect 200kb/s with this product because it just not going to happen, but it is still a good solution for anything except hd video streaming. I use one to connect my ethernet switch to my xbox 360 and second computer which both happen to be on a different floor. the connection is definitely better than wireless, and surely less volatile(however sometimes they take few seconds to start up). My only problem is that one of my units was DOA, because i bought two packs I now have 1 base unit and two satellites which is fine for my situation.
Cons Review
Great for almost 4 weeks . The Monster Powernet 200 was mentioned by Glenn Reynolds on InstaPundit. Faced with problematic Wi-Fi coverage upstairs where we keep the X-Box, I got the Powernet 100 (didn't need the surge protection, saved a few bucks). The 2 units were plugged in, synced up (the appropriate lights lit), I then plugged in the first unit to the cable router and the second unit upstairs to the X-Box, and BAM it worked. Quite a delight after the 3 or 4 hours I spent messing with my AirPorts extending and trying to optimize the wireless network.
So everything worked great until this afternoon when the X-Box said it was no longer connected to the network. A trip to the Monster web site was more that disappointing, it was frustrating. There are no forums, there is no FAQ for the Powernet product line, and there was no easy to find link under support for the documentation. I had to go to Google to find a PDF of the instructions -- that are only available for the Powernet 200. Lame.
I did reset both Powernet devices and still no network. I'll post an update if I can get them working again.
