Easily add a convenient front-accessible ExpressCard slot to PCIe desktop systems

Purchase with care . This device is a great idea in itself. To start with, the difference between PCIe and Expresscard in its' simplest form is the shape of the connector. PCIe can function over a fairly long distance so long as cable quality is good enough. Since this card uses Infiniband cabling which is rated for speeds quite a bit higher than PCIe, this is not an issue.
The problem with this adapter is that the slot does not properly identify itself as expresscard. Even if it did, the system BIOS would be required to recognize Expresscard and most desktop motherboard BIOSes don't.
The Dell workstation I purchased this for complains everytime that I'm booting that the PCIe slot is invalid when no card is present, requiring me to press F1 to ignore the message. This is a nuisance. Windows doesn't see this as an express card slot, so card insertion and ejection causes the system to outright crash (blue screen or just go black).
If I wiggle and dance a few times, I can get the inserted card to be recognized and it is fully functional, but it can take several reboots and sacrifices to gods of old.
I don't recommend this card slot to anyone who isn't extremely patient and willing to struggle through.

Works fine for Award BIOS . This adapter works fine in my Gigabyte / Award hardware. The only thing I don't like is the depth of the slot. It seems like all cards I have stand out at least half an inch (1.5cm) - (in addition to the part that needs to stand out to grab a card). Don't know if this is due to Expresscard design specs or just this SIIG adapter.
