Packing List:
1 x Mini USB Wireless N 802.11n/g/b WiFi LAN Adapter 150Mbps
1 x Driver CD
As advertised . Used this for our iMac G5 with Leopard. Still works after two weeks of use. Strong signal. The only trick with installation was getting the driver off of the CD. It's a mini-CD, meaning it won't fit in most of Apples drive bays. If you can manage to use another type of optical drive, such as, those included with most PC labtops, then you should be able to locate the mac driver (for Tiger and Leopard), save it to a thumbdrive, and take it to your mac. It's a few extra steps for the process, but it worked fine.
At roughly $20, this adapter is a good value for a mac USB wireless adapter. Just expect to do some variation of the above process to install it. Online mac drivers for the adapter were hard to come by.
A bit harder to use in Linux than I thought . The mini-CD that comes with the package does have a driver for Linux. Unfortunately, it is for an older kernel version than what Fedora 13 uses. Luckily, I was able to get the appropriate driver from
[...]
the file I needed is named RTL8191SU_usb_linux_v2.6.6.0.20101111.zip . Like most, you need to unzip this, then do the usual messing around to compile and install it. If you're not used to doing this type of install, it is a real pain. If you're used to downloading Linux source packages and installing them (like a Debian user), then you'll find it simple. The device is not supported "out of the box", least not in RedHat Fedora 13.
the device works about as well as my other WiFi. I had hoped for a greater range because I have one place where I have poor WiFi signal strength. It was a vain hope in this case. But that was MY fault, not the vendors. Don't buy something based on hope-so!
Works great! . I bought this after the wifi quit working on my netbook.
Size was my primary consideration. This was the smallest adapter I found, and it was very inexpensive. It fits snugly enough that I'm not worried about loosing it, and it's working great under Windows 7.
You can't tell from the picture, but it's actually a dark, semi-transparent plastic and does have a green status LED. I thought that was a nice touch.
Cons Review
Drivers are terrible. Can't find any support on the internet.
I'm about to throw it in the trash.
A pissed off customer
