802.11N Wireless USB Adapter . I'am using the SMC adapter for my wireless connection on my "Ubuntu 10.4 Linux OS system", it works great, no problems what so ever...It gives me a great signal, to my router one can not ask for anything better...I tried NetGear's wireless adapter, and finally after hours trying to get it to work, when they said it would not work on Linux huh!...But I returned it, then I purchased the SMC 802.11N, all that I can say is it just works, a very good wireless adapter... I would buy SMC products if needed in my next purchase...

Works with the WD TV Live Plus . This normally wouldn't be my first choice for a wireless USB adapter, but it works great with the WD TV Live Plus, which is the primary reason I bought this.

Getting it to work is really easy. You simply plug the adapter in, go in to the network management and search for the access point. It may not connect the first time, just try again. The light does a rapid blinking when it connects (the LED is green).

It did drop my connection once, but it is relatively far away from the access point and between a wall.

Overall, I would rate the signal strength as very good (about 50 feet away between a wall).

The only con I can find is it is white, but I knew that before I purchased.
802.11N Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N2 Opinions
Cheap and works great! . I purchased this adapter for using it with Commview, I chose the cheapest adapter supported by commview and I am surprised, it just works!. To use this adapter with Commview you need at least Commview version 6.3. I am surprised this adapter support packet injection too, this helped me a lot in testing my WEP networks. The speed and range is excelent. I am so satisfied with this product.
works well on linux . shortly speaking, this adapter with Atheros 9170 chipset is very well supported by linux. Indeed, this item is exactly as on this page: The only difference is it's 3 times higher on Thinkpenguin site...
Ubuntu 10.4 wireless success!! . I also was able to use this wireless network adapter to connect to a wireless network via Ubuntu 10.4. To get it to work after loading Ubuntu 10.4 on my computer, I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk both of which came with the Ubuntu 10.4 download. Finally, I loaded the SMC driver for windows XP (arusb_xp.inf) on Ubuntu 10.4 using ndisgtk and the SMC adapter works great!
Strong Wifi adaptor . This adaptor really brings in the surrounding ISP's - it works as good as some I've had in the $100 range. I've had many other adaptors but this one seems to get a bit warm to the touch and tends to lose some of the distant ISP locations after being plugged in for an hour or so.
SMC Wireless Adapter . It allowed me to connect my XP computer to the internet via my SMC wireless router. I had no problems installing it.

Cons Review
Worked great initially . Worked great initially. After less than a year, however, the adapter started getting flaky. The desktop I was using it with started frequently losing its connection to the internet (but not its connection to the wireless router). "Repairing" the network connection on the desktop would always resolve the problem... until it happened again. Got to the point recently where it was sometimes dropping the internet connection multiple times per hour. So, in the garbage the wireless adapter went.

I've bought 3 SMC wireless adapters (each a different model) in the last couple of years and they've all failed similarly. On the other hand, I've had an SMC wireless router for the last several years and it's still performing flawlessly. Go figure.

Recently bought a couple of Medialink wireless adapters. So far, they've been perfect.
Didn't last. . I was disappointed by the short range of this adapter and it started dropping packets the moment I plugged it in. After a couple months, I was dropping connections so often I couldn't even expect a webpage to fully load. I've tried switching USB ports and rebooting, but it still fails. My router is only fifteen feet away, and it never drops connection to my two laptops. It was cheap, so I'm not out much money, it's just been annoying to have to deal with.
system crashes . This adapter worked for a while, but is now causing constant BSOD's (confirmed by whocrashed). There is no online resource to download an updated driver.
