The D-Link DHP-W306AV Powerline AV Wireless N Extender enables you to extend your wireless network to the farthest corners of your home without the need for unsightly network cables. It uses your home's existing electrical wiring to create a network or extend your existing network. One DHP-306AV adapter needs to be plugged into your router first and then additional DHP-306AV or DHP-W306AV adapters will utilize PowerLine to connect to and expand your network.

It works ! . I bought this DHP-W306AV unit with the D-Link DHP-307AV Powerline AV Network Adapter and Starter Kit. I already have a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router and the need of these equipment is that I live in a big & good apartment and the wireless signal is not strong in some areas. So the idea was to use the electric wire to expand both wired and wireless to the entire apartment.
After several minutes reading the instructions, you may feel frustraded because it is not that simple. You have to use intuition and pay a lot of attention for details in the documentation to be succesful. I spent 45 minutes to install both and they really work very well. The network signal is strong and estable. I consider a good product and investment. I don't give a 5 star just because the poor instructions as definitely, it needs improvements to be more user friendly.
D-Link DHP-W306AV PowerLine AV Wireless N Extender, HomePlug AV, 11n Reviews
Yes it works GREAT But....... . Here's the story. I had a dead spot in an upstair's bedroom (Master) and it didn't become a problem until I bought my wife an iPad which has a very week WIFI antenna. Now I also should explain I am a real handyman and a geek....there is nothing I can't fix, make, or do....and this concerns me about their product. I wrote D'Link and asked them if they sold a wireless starter kit, they replied: "Yes." Well you don't. THIS (D'Link's) poor understanding of basic English is what I believe is the start of the problem. First, YES it works, and YES it work's GREAT. I get 26 Mbs from the wired side of my router (Basis for my standard). My new extension consists of a: D-Link PowerLine AV-500 Powerline Adapter attached to my 802.11n Netgear router, and I get 22 Mbs from the wired side of the DHP-W306AV Wireless N Extender (There is a plug on the side of this product to ALSO use it as a wired unit), and I get a solid 18-19 Mbs on the wireless side (Macbook Pro), and a solid 8-9 Mps (wireless) on the iPad. So we're pleased with the product's performance (Hence the 5-Star rating. HOWEVER the instructions SUCK. They either were written by somebody who knows the product TOO well to explain it clearly, OR written in ENGRISH. Just an example is the fact that they have a security button that pairs the two (kind of like bluetooth), but each product's instruction manual calls it a different button, with NO picture of WHICH button it is (even more confusing since there are different buttons on the wireless unit), AND one says press for 2 sec, the other product's manual says press for 3 sec, and guess what, holding the button for different amounts of time WILL allow the unit to enter into DIFFERENT cycles. OMG! Can you get this system to work if your an average computer skilled person, maybe, and probably never if your skills are less than average. Is this a great product: YES, but there needs to be a MAJOR re-write of their manual, along with a SIMPLE video on their CD on a step by step process. This would make this product GREAT....in closing, who the He11 in 2011 does NOT include APPLE (MAC) software on their installation CD. That's right, NO Mac software included on their CD....but we Apple (Steve Job's) fanboys can figure it out! Eventually!!! Oh, FYI it took me about 5 hours to get it working...and yes I DO work for NASA. Good Luck! Have Fun!
D-Link DHP-W306AV PowerLine AV Wireless N Extender, HomePlug AV, 11n Opinions
Took some tweaking but it works . I have an unusually figured house essentially with 2 wings. Unfortunately the router has to be in one of the wings vs center of the house. I have tried a number of networking gadgets to no avail. Thought I'd give the Powerline AV a shot. I had trouble at first, but after systemically going through the setup carefully, it worked. I connect one piece to the router and I have 2 AV wireless and one wired peripherals and now my entire house is networked! I don't consider myself an IT expert, but it's definitely not for a novice. I did call the help desk a few times, but when I purchased it, the IT helpdesk were not that familiar with it and I eventually figured it out myself! Good luck.
Works Great! Complicated Installation but I plan to add a second unit . I purchased my D-Link Wireless N Extender to get a stronger signal in the bedroom for my Ipad. It was a little hard to install but once I had it up and running it works flawlessly. I plan to add another one at the other end of the house and let my Dlink-655 cover the middle. I am very pleased with the performance and do not have any problems watching streaming video over the link. I wish they were less expensive to make it easier to justify more coverage in some other areas. Great product!

Cons Review
No go . Didn't work, sent it back (thanks, Amazon).
I plugged it into an electrical outlet in the room next door, no connection (green "house" light not on). Tried in my office next to the router, still nothing, a flickering green house indicator. This is with the new DHP 1320 router, which works fine. I was on the support line for an hour, no luck (OK support). I plugged it directly into the router and could get to the IP address but no connection still. I gave up and returned it rather than spend my weekend fighting with a network. I'm waiting for more reviews to see if I was doing anything wrong. My guess would be that the DHP 1320 router is not broadcasting through the powerlines properly.

John O . After several hours of trying, I could not get this extender to work. It would commnicate with my router at first, then lose all communication. I finally gve up and cascaded a second router to the other end of my house and that worked fine.
DLink Powerline Wirelesss Extender . I've had two attempts with technical support. I must say, they try very hard to make it work. But I'm not sure whether they always grasp the setup a might might have. Lots of ipconfig issues. I can see the device on the network, but when I try to access the the Internet, no luck. I like the concept, but I don't want to miss my 30 day return window.
