This newly-redesigned Linksys 16-Port 10/100 Switch can significantly increase your network traffics speed. A switch serves the same function as a hub in a network design -- tying your network equipment together. But unlike a simple-minded hub which divides the networks bandwidth among all the attached devices, a switch delivers full network speeds at each port. Installing this cost-effective 16-Port 10/100 Switch can potentially increase your network speed by sixteen times. It is the perfect way of integrating 10Mbps Ethernet and 100Mbps Fast Ethernet devices, too. All sixteen ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you do not have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently negotiates for best speed and half- or full-duplex mode, for up to 200Mbps of bandwidth per port. Fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network.

Excellent 16 port switch . When space and not enough ports is a problem, this is THE solution! Just plug and play, nothing to configure. Put your internet connection into one port and you have 15 for your lan computers. Linksys is awesome, has been running in my office since I bought it without any downtime at all.

Cisco 16-port 10/100 Switch . This replaced my five port switch for my house. Needed more ports with the exansion of my home system. This was a reasonalbe cost addition. Was very easy to setup. Just plug it in and to the router and then plug all the home extentions into this switch. Pluged in the power and it was up and running.

Pleased . This switch is very handy for business meetings and since it has 16 ports it has enough capacity to meet everyone's needs. We carry it back and forth between conference rooms so it's nice that it has a compact and sturdy metal case. It's also nice that it has a cut-out for installing a cable lock (although we don't use it). No problems to report so I'd recommend it.

Cons Review
Runs hot . This switch worked fine for about a year, but it always ran hot, which is probably what killed it. I had two of these and both died.
Runs hot warranty replacement was fast . This unit runs VERY hot, almost too hot to touch. After a few ports went out I called for a warranty replacement and received one that still runs hot. I expect I will have to call about this again in the future.
As prices fall this one may not be worth the cash.

Two died within a year for me also . I just had my second one of these die within a year and was surprised to see that another reviewer had exactly the same problem. They definitely do run hot, and they definitely die much too soon!
