The AirRouter 802.11n Wireless Router is a multi-purpose router that can act as a standard SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) router or operate in two other network modes: Bridge or Router mode. The AirRouter also offers multiple wireless modes including Station mode to extend your wireless network and Access Point mode to function as the center of your wireless network. Professional Quality Gear For Everyone . I have to admit, I love Ubiquiti's stuff. It's feature-rich, robust and reliable. Their prices are comparable to D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, etc., but the devices give you a lot more flexibility because they were designed by a company that's making products for professional users. The AirRouter, though designed as a consumer device, uses the same software and similar hardware as their other equipment. The only downsides to it are that it is a single-band access point and it has an internal antenna, but both of those are pretty standard for a consumer product.

This is the fifth Ubiquiti product I've personally purchased, and maybe the 20th or so I've worked with. If you know what you're doing, or if someone's setting the device up for you, this is a great tool. If you don't consider yourself a computer person, be aware that while AirOS is clear and easy to use if you know what you're looking for, it doesn't hold your hand.
AirRouter 802.11g/n Featuring Ubiquiti AirOS Reviews
Great as an AP . I love this router when used as an access point. Due to some of the current firmware limitations regarding firewall setup and utilizing static IPs, I would not use this product as my primary router. However, I am not utilizing the routing functions of the product. Air OS offers tremendous versatility and if you have a clear understanding of what needs to be configured, it is very user friendly. It does not guide you through the setup process though, so if you need a wizard style interface look elsewhere. Having worked with Air OS in the past, I was up and running in 10 minutes, including the firmware update.I haven't been running this AP long, but the 6 year old router/AP it replaced averaged at least 2 resets per week due to dropped connections. So far I haven't had a single drop with the Air Router, and throughput has increased perceptibly. The signal strength is equivalent to other consumer grade routers I have used, but this is definitely not a "high power" unit. The USB port currently provides little value as there is no support for printing or network storage. If Ubiquiti would include drivers to enable the USB port in future firmware, this would be a nearly perfect AP.
AirRouter 802.11g/n Featuring Ubiquiti AirOS Opinions
AirRouter . Product works great, definitely one of the best routers for the money. Has some powerful features that rival much more expensive equipment. One caveat is that it doesn't have a feature for static DHCP assignments.

Cons Review
Poorly designed firmware and poor tech support. Do not buy. . After receiving this router here is what I discovered after wasting 6+ hours trying to get it to work and then placing 3 calls at my expense to tech support with no return call until the next day. They did finally call and apologize that they were understaffed for tech support which means you should expect the same if you purchase this product.

1. The manual is missing sections that explain how to configure the firmware along with sections of the manual that even their tech support didn't understand. I finally received an email from tech support explaining an aspect of the configuration that had me and their own staff puzzled.

2. Although the routers firmware offers settings for dyndns there is no way to reserve ip numbers on the lan side. I have received confirmation of this from tech support in writing. Obviously not a well thought out execution of firmware.

From Ubiquiti Tech Support:

"DHCP reservation Is one of the biggest requested options customer have expressed on out forms [...] our Developers will at some point will put this feature in, but currently it is not on the planned list. The best solution I could come up with would to use a Linksys router or another router dhcp reservation capable router as your base, and use the air router in a bridged mode with DHCP enabled or set with a static IP address. With this set up the air router would attain an ip address you could reserve or set statically. Any device connecting to the air router would receive a dhcp request from the first router which you could use the DHCP reservation. Currently this goes for all our devices as they use the same air os firmware. I understand if this is not satisfactory solution, the best thing I could recommend would be to send the product back"

3. The tools needed to refine the configuration do not work with Safari, Firefox 5 or Chrome browsers. I went thru this process with Chris from tech support.. Tech support also confirmed this they just didn't let anyone know. The documentation states Safari works (page 3 of the Air router user guide) but they know it doesn't and suggested that I try Firefox 6.

4. You will have to guess at the channel you select for wireless transmission as the firmware only list the frequencies so beware. I could not get my router to transmit beyond 20 feet and since the tools they provide in the firmware don't work with the stated browsers I had to go through each channel frequency one by one and wait each time for the router to reboot to find a channel that sort of kind of worked. Tech support stated that the -85dbm noise level needed to be improved to at least -95dbm or higher but again the provided tools specifically the much toted spectrum analyzer could not be accessed by me or their tech support person Chris when we both tried the same versions of Safari.

5. Although mentioned here in the product description that the USB port supports use of an antenna, the USB port is dead and has absolutely no use or function as stated in the user manual on page 3 and confirmed by tech support.

In summary, why purchase a router from a company that tells you to use another makers router along with theirs to get it to work, just buy another brand of router and save yourself from this silliness.
