TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter Complies with IEEE 802.3ab and IEEE 802.3z

Gigabit Fiber Cheap and Easy . Note: You have to purchase an additonal $40 "SFP transceiver" module before you can use the MC220L.
After receiving two MC220L's from Amazon, I discovered that you also need two SFP modules.
I called TP-link 24-hour support, which were extremely helpful & responsive.
They suggested the TL-SM311LM module for multimode cable up to 550 meters with LC connectors.
So, I ordered two of these, at $40 each, for each side of the link.
The two required TL-SM311LM SFP modules arrived in less than a week. I inserted an SFP module into each MC220Ls and plugged in the ethernet and fiber cables. The handy LED link indicators on the MC220L immediately lit up, showing the link was up at 1GB/s. My router and server network lights confirmed that I had a fiber link running at gigabit speeds. W00t! NB: The MC220L does *NOT* work at 10/100 Mb/s speeds, you absolutely need gigabit equipment.
I live in an area with a high risk of lightning damage. My server is protected through several filters, surge protectors and finally a UPS. I primarily use the MC220Ls to prevent lightning from entering from the cable modem side. The MC220L and plastic fiber cable ensures perfect electrical insulation at gigabit speeds.
All in all a great product, but don't forget to also order the SFP module!
