As part of the GoFlex Storage System, the GoFlex upgrade cable kit - USB 3.0 enables you to upgrade the interface on your GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drive to USB 3.0. The kit include everything you need to use the USB 3.0 interface on both your laptop and your drive including the USB 3.0 cable, PC card laptop adapter and USB power connector. The cable features LED lights to show drive activity and offers 10x faster performance compared to USB 2.0. The GoFlex USB 3.0 cable and PC card adapter are backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Seagate USB 3.0 kit . I got this kit along with the SEAGATE GoFlex Pro 500gb HD. This drive is a 7200 rpm drive and is what SEAGATE recomments for the best performance with USB 3.0.
When I tried a backup (39 gb of music, photos and misc other stuff) I was disapointed with the speed of the backup. I then tried this same hard Drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port directly and functioning as a USB 2.0 device and it did take a bit longer. I then tried the same backup on a LACIE rugged 500gb 5400 rpm drive and the timing was nearly the same as that of the SEAGATE 7200 rpm drive.
Summary of the testing (BU of 39 GB of music, picts and misc stuff)
SEAGATE GoFlex Pro 500gb HD with SEAGATE SEAGATE USB 3.0 Kit.; 40 min
SEAGATE GoFlex Pro 500gb HD. in USB 2.0 mode; 58 minutes
Lacie Rugged 500GB 5400 RPM drive; 61 minutes
So, in general, I would say that the USB 3.0 buys you a 33% improvement in speed in a backup application. This is far short of the speed increases that USB 3.0 is supposed to provide. That being I would suspect that the limitation is the write speed of the drive.
If yo do the math, you will note that the difference in write time is very close to the difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm hard drive RPM.
So, If a modest increase in write speed in important to you then buy this device. If not, dont buy it. Keep in mind that you do get the USB 3.0 card and may be useful in the future.

USB 3 is definetly faster . It took me a whole night to backup my files to the hard drive on the 2.0 standard while the 3.0 changed that to about half the time or maybe even less and putting them back on my computer was even quicker.

Love It!!!!!!!!!!! . Worked like a charm as soon as I plugged it in and love USB 3 speed, my backup are really very fast using the adapter.
Cons Review
Not a significant speed boost . I use this adapter with my Dell laptop connecting to the 1TB GoFlex hard drive & i dont see a significant improvement in transfer speed using this adapter or regulate laptop usb. the difference is only 10-15% which is not too significant for my backup job.
