The Hawking HMPS1U Print Server for Multifunction Printers lets you connect and share your multifunction printer, scanner or USB storage device (USB thumb drive, hard drive etc...) with the computers in your home or office area network. Simply attach your multifunction printer or USB storage device to the Print Server, run the Utility Software and begin sharing your printer or storage device. The HMPS1U is also capable of sharing your USB storage device and USB printer over the internet for remote access and remote printing (FTP server, IPP printing). With the HMPS1U, your printer becomes a fully functional network print station.

Great Product Difficult Setup With Win 7 64 bit . We purchased a Brother MFC-7340 to replace another brother AIO printer. Normally we would have purchased a network AIO but the price on the bother was so good, it made sense to purchase and upgrade the print server. We purchased the Hawking HMPS1U because it supported multifunction operations. THIS DOES WORK WITH WIN 7 64BIT although it took a little work to figure it out, Hawking tech support wasn't much help. The set up part for just printing is easy, if you know your way around network printers; just add a network printer, make sure you know the IP address of the print server and its easy. If you're just going to print, don't buy this print server, but if you want to share every function on this machine use this server. For Win 7 64 bit set up, DO NOT USE THE SOFTWARE ON THE CD. Go to Hawking's website and download and install the setup from there. Then download and upload the firmware to the print server and BANG it will see your printer and you're good to go! Unfortunately tech support, the manuals, or anybody else will not tell you that. If I would have known this it would have taken less than 15 to 20 minutes to set up two laptops sharing the setup.
Better documentation which would have lead to easier setup would have given this 5 stars.

Basically, this device creates a virtual USB port so any printer that is USB will work.

Hawking HMPS1U 1-Port USB 2.0 Print Server for Multi Function Printers Opinions
Still developing this product . After several firmware upgrades, the server worked well. However, the software looses its connection to the printer once in a while. When this happens, you need to uninstall and reinstall the software. Customer service is pityful at best, somewhere in India. Response is up to 6 days. Phone support is for minor problems only then they refer you to email. 6 days X 4 firmware up grades.

Hawking Multi-Function Print Server . This arrived in a timely manner. I had no issues installing on my current network, I am running Windows 7 on all computers here, so that may have helped. The printer I am using on this is a Cannon MP830 multifunction printer and can print/scan from all of my computers.
Just buy a wireless printer instead this is a hassle . I have both XP and 7. I got it to work but what a hassle. then i did a system firmware upgrade and that was all it took to stop working, I could barely understand customer support. after hours and hours i gave up and threw it in the trash! if you plan on using this with a separate hard drive off the USB port YOU can NOT share it. software is terrible and customer support email was quick, but using the phone support was very painful.
UPDATED 12-20-2010: I WENT TO RETURN THIS BACK TO AMAZON, (ok so i thought why throw it away) they said sorry but you are over 30 days old. BUT then the guy said let me contact Hawking for you and see if they can help you. Within a day I got a call from a person I could understand and he said how can i help, I said i have been talking with customer service twice and they sent me on a wild goose chase, the guy said well did you update the software AND firmware and i said no and that was never mentioned. once i removed the old software and got the matching software for the firmware (2.33v)it WORKS AGAIN! That is good service by Amazon and Hawkings. The USB part is true though, don't expect to use and share that port for a separate hard drive.
If i did it again I would have just bought a wireless MFP.

Works with LaserJet 3050 both printer and scanner Win 7 64-bit . This was the cheapest print server I could find online (50 bucks shipped). I used another Hawking product (directional wifi antenna) in the past and I was happy with it so I gave another shot. It works beautifully with HP LaserJet 3050 USB printer / scanner. Please note that this printer is not in the list of supported printers list of manufacturer. Maybe that's why it didn't work out of box but when I upgraded the firmware to 2.33 it recognized the printer and worked fine. I tested on both Win 7 64 and 32 (print and scan). Software is very nice.
Not Mac compatible but better than Belkin & Keyspan . I bought the Haking, Belkin and Keyspan Tripplite. The Keyspan Tripplite was just a pain. There was a recent driver on their website for Mac but no instructions on what to do with it. When I downloaded and doubleclicked it, Mac OS tried to open it with Text Edit. The Belkin was better but auto-connect and disconnect just didn't work right. I'd have to wait what felt like a minute or more for a print out to come out after the auto-connect connected. Even when manually connected I still could not use the scanner. No thank you.
The Hawking was the smallest, cheapest and easiest to install. It worked first try and even with my office's VPN-connected XP laptop. Unlike the Belkin, I didn't have to play with firewall rules. My only gripe is that it does not have a driver for Mac so to print from my Mac I have to manually unplug the USB cable from the server and plug it in to the back of the Mac, then plug the printer back into the server when done. I emailed support several days ago asking for a Mac driver and never heard from them. I have multiple computers connected to my router, wired and wireless. They all auto-connect and print fine using the Hawking print server with my Canon MFP 4150. So far I've had to manually connect to scan when initiating the scan from the printer. That makes sense. If the request comes from the printer instead of one of the PCs, how should the USB server know which one to connect it to. There is a "network scanner" button in the user interface. I have not played enough with it yet.
As long as you don't care that it's not Mac, Linux or Unix compatible, I recommend it.

Cons Review
Software did not rerout the printer have yet to get to work. . I have not been able to get the system to re-rout the print spool thru the print server to the printer. I only get the message, "File failed to print"
could be better . It does alright at what its meant for, but not real great. One reviewer stated he could use this over a VPN connection, but I'll guarantee it was a client-to-network (PPTP) VPN tunnel, as I can't get any results over a Lan-to-Lan VPN tunnel. This device has NO support for Linux or Mac. If you use either, just look elsewhere. The ONLY way to use 64 bit windows 7 or 2008 server with this device is to flash the firmware (easily found on website). The software on the cd included with the device is absolute useless junk. Just go to Hawking's website and download the software from there. I really wish the device wasn't so completely dependent on the print server software, as the server app has to be installed on EVERY computer with which you expect to use this print server (or the printer plugged into it). I haven't seen or heard one single review saying that Hawking's customer support doesn't suck, so I'm not even going down that road with them.Bottom line, if this were a $20 piece of hardware, it would be worth buying. But for 50 bucks, I wish I would've gone elsewhere.
Product not compatible and horrible tech support . I purchased this because it was one of the very few multi-function print servers that listed my Canon MP830 MFP. When I received it, I tried to install it but it was not detecting the printer properly, it only saw the fax portion. I called tech support and they told me I had to call back between M-F 9-5 Pacific time to talk with a level 2 tech. I called on a Monday at 3 pacific and they said I had to call back the next day as their level 2 tech wasn't available. I called back on Tuesday at the same time, and I got the same run around, that I had to call back first thing in the morning. Since I work, I'm unable to do that and just decided to return the item back to Amazon, which so far has been the easiest thing to do thanks to Amazon's great return setup. I'm just going to spend a little bit more and by a network capable printer.
