Better than wireless . I bought this for our home theater system to serve an HTPC & Xbox 360 in our living room. Much better connection than the previous wireless-N. I can stream in HD and there's no lag or buffer issues. Backing up the HTPC to my NAS is much faster as well. Installation was a breeze including the firmware update. I would certainly recommend this, especially for those suffering from wireless lag, weak signal, etc. Only con I can think of is the price...

It solved my problem. . The powerline jacks solved my issues with poor wifi signals in this house. All my devices now work as intended with reliable internet connctions. I purchased an additional jack to connect a laptop in a different room. Easy to setup, easy to set the encryption. While pricey, I would do it again. No more complaints about losing connections!

Netgear XAVB5004 Powerline Network Adapter Opinions
Powerline works fine but... . Powerline networking works fine and the Netgear adapters are fine products. However, so far the AV 500 adapters do not perform any better than the AV 200 adapters I had in place before I ordered the 500's. With either I get about 120Mbit between the same plugs. Just as a warning. Don't think that you are going to increase your bandwidth by going to the higher speed adapter.

Definitely works as advertised. Seems very reliable . My only other option was to add a wireless repeater to my home network. Not sure how well that would have worked anyway. Needed something in my bedroom that had RJ-45 ethernet ports to connect my Sony BDP-S470 blu-ray player and my MacBook Pro computer. Wireless signal in bedroom varies widely but for the times I use my iPod Touch 4g, seems adequate. Wanted more reliable and faster connection that this provides. The unit in the bedroom is the larger 5001 with 4 ethernet ports on the back and the smaller module is in room with router at other end of the house. Our house is over 20 years old and even with old and original wiring I seem to be getting faster than wireless speeds. As to setup? There was none for me. Who's going to hack into my Powerline network in small town subdivision? Have a Netgear 802.11n router (max 54mbs) and their Powerline gear. The router had the easiest setup I've ever seen until this kit which as I mentioned had 0 setup. Very happy with it.

Bought, installed in 4 minutes. As fast as my machine running right off the router. A 30X to 40X improvement over our wifi.

We struggled with spotty Wifi. It would work great for three weeks, and then collapse. I spent many hours resetting it, renewing the ip address, and getting yelled at by my family. "Why won't Netflix work?" "When can we watch John Stewart?" on Hulu. I would be a hero when I fixed it, then on the hotseat again the instant it failed. Always on movie night with the kids.
We have a 1904 house, and all that lath and plaster is no doubt part of the problem. But the *real* problem is that wireless is just terrible, everywhere. So I was about to buy a big network switch and spend a day running wires to setup a wired network. Then I ran across powerline options. It sounds like it works for some people, but not others. But at least it's very consistent in one place. If it works at your house, it will always work at your house.
In our house, I got it up and running in less than five minutes. Plug-and-play. And the performance was killer. Our wifi average was around .5mps. Powerline is consistently between 15mps and 20mps. That's huge. Someday I may wire up the house, but I don't see any reason to do so if powerline is a reliable as everyone says. And this kit rocks. Pricey? Maybe. But it seems like a good value for a instant home network with beefy performance.

Mancave Must . I put this in the Mancave and it connected to the existing powerline system without any setup. I plugged in all 3 of my gaming systems and they all work at the same time. No more digging around behind the TV switching wires. Great product.
Works better than expected . Our house as 2 electrical boxes and the signal works across both of them. Something I didn't think would work. It works faster than our wireless router from loft to basement (3 levels) w/o the drops. Love it! Setup was as easy as the directions illustrated, we were up and running in moments. I tested it in all the rooms of our house and got a steady green light in every room. It is twice as fast as the XAVB2004 model we tried first.
Our house was built in 1996, so maybe that helps having newer wiring? Either way I highly recommend this, at least take it home for a try.

Going Back to Wired - Wireless Makes Me SICK . Wireless devices make me physically ill. Scientists and the entire wireless industry can go ahead and debate this back and forth. All I know is that you put me around wireless and my jaw tightens up, face flushes, I get dizzy and light-headed. I just want to throw up. I guess the radiation catches up to you sooner or later... So I got rid of my beloved HTC Thunderbolt, Panasonic DECT phones, and now we're turning off the wi-fi. Net Gear Powerline equipment work well making the whole family happy as we can continue to enjoy the internet in a safe and healthy way.
Good Choice for HTPC . I bought this to stream video to a HTPC and BD player. Set up was extremely easy and painless and it worked the first time, no messing around with settings or hard to understand adjustments. Throughput is much better than my previous wireless N and HDTV now streams without a problem or undue buffering. Only problem is that occasionally, when not in use, it will lose connection and I'll have to unplug it and plug it back in to reset. Would recommend to anyone looking for a simple wired solution.
Just what I needed !! . OK, so I have an extender that wasn't cutting it. Most of the time I would have to reset it to get it going again. I needed an alternative.I didn't want to wire my condo... which would mean making holes in walls then patching them up.... I had checked power line adapters before but finally decided to try them.After connecting 1 adapter to my router and the other 4 port adapter in my bedroom I started doing some testing.I was testing by checking download speed with speedtest.net. With my PC connected to my router I get 30MB download (I pay a little extra to get this download from my cable).My initial placement of the 4 port adapter was in my bedroom... I got download speed of about 5MB and was a bit disappointed. Then I decided to try other electrical outlets. I think there was something wrong with that particular outlet because all other outlets in my bedroom and several outlets in my downstairs living room... I was getting 20MB download speed on all outlets and of course in same room I have my router I got the full 30MB.Considering I was getting 10MB with my extender on a lucky day and it was running fine.. I'm now getting double the speed with this adapter.Highly recommend for those wanting to extend your network without the trouble of drilling holes in your walls...Since I still need wireless capability, I may now need to get another router and put away my extender.Note: This is the first day I set this up... If anything changes in the near future I will update.
