Easy to Install Worked Immediately . I installed this low-cost card into my old desktop, to increase the amount of USB ports. The card was easy to install, and Windows XP installed the drivers automatically. No fussing around!

Sabrent SBT-ALI5Y 5 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PCI Hi Speed Card Adapter Reviews
Works For Some Not For Others (1)... . This review is a tale of 2 USB 5 port PCI cards (a SYBA SD-VIA-5U 5-port card and a Sabrent SBT-ALI5Y 5 Port card) and 3 PCs (An elderly Compaq 5838 w/500MHz AMD, an elderly HP 6465 w/433MHz Celeron, and an ancient fossil kit computer w/166MHz Pentium I).
The SYBA card was puchased along with a SYBA internal 4 port internal hub to be used with the Compaq 5838. The 5838 originally came with 4 USB 1.1 ports that were discovered to be a handicap in some situations.
The Sabrent card was purchased to be used in the fossil. The fossil originally had no USB ports.
Both cards look very simililar. The heart of both cards is a VIA chip.
Neither of the cards would work in the PCs for which they were intended. The PCs would not boot with these cards installed. The boot never got to the point where the operating system begins to load, so it has nothing to do with drivers. (???)
After swapping the cards, the fossil booted OK with the SYBA card, and has been using it since. It turned out that the SYBA hub wouldn't physically fit in the Compaq, but fit just fine in the fossil, and it too now resides in the fossil. The Compaq 5838 would not boot with the Sabrent card either.
With the Sabrent card having now failed to work with either the Compaq or the fossil, it was installed in the elderly HP 6465, where it worked just fine, and has been working there since. The internal USB port was tested, and it worked just fine, but wasn't needed in daily use with the HP.
The epilogue for this tale is that the card being reviewed here won't work in just any PC, but works great in the right PC. At about half the price of the similar SYBA card, the price is hard to beat, but there's no way to tell which will work or which won't work. Oh yes, and the Compaq 5838? Just on a hunch, a SYBA SD-NECU2-5E1 6 port card was purchased to try in the Compaq, and it worked great. The heart of this card is a NEC chip instead of the VIA chip.

Cons Review
Check the reviews before you buy... . FAIL for the card, and a FAIL for me not doing my homework. I was in a big box store and picked this up because it was cheap. Had I only looked at the reviews, a fellow giving it 4 stars made the point it didn't work in a Compaq 5000 series (so why 4 stars?, just because he had another old PC to upgrade and it luckily worked?). Back to driving it across town. Should do my shopping on Amazon, or at least look up the reviews on my smart phone.
Does not work . I ordered the Buslink card and was sent this instead. But the mixup is another issue.
This card does not work. I am running Win XP in a Pentium IV computer. There are no instruction but it comes with a CD. This is s generic disk with drivers for LAN cards as well as other cards. There is no way to find the correct driver for this card. Seeing I'm using a play hard drive that I use to experiment with, I loaded numerous drivers, kind of hit and miss. No way could I get this card to work.
Save your money and by all means....DO NOT GET THIS CARD !

Bad with old hardware . I bought this so that I can use my external HD with it in old hardware. In both of the two old PCs that I have, it worked about %30 of the time, but mostly gave errors. I had to resort back to USB 1.0 ports. I didn't try it in my new PC, but what is the point in having a PCI USB2.0 card if it won't work fine in old hardware? Stay away and don't get suckered by the price.
Useless USB controller . After two hours of trying stuff I couldn't get anything out of this card which proves the old addage: You get what you pay for. Don't waste your time on this one.
