Great adapter! . For what ever reason, my laptop's Ethernet socket quit working, the internal components pass but nothing works when plugged in. I really don't want to have to send my laptop off to be repaired for several weeks so I got this adapter instead. It comes with a tiny CD-ROM for installing the software, the documentation is short and sweet with all the info you need to make this work properly. Install the software, reboot the computer, plug in the adapter and network cable and away I go!
Great fix.

Great But Not For Tivo . I bought this adapter to connect my Ethernet network to my Tivo II (older model) DVR. It doesn't work! The first adapter I bought was a Linksys (which is still available) and it worked, but was flimsy and I had to use the combination of a large rubber band and an oversize paperclip to squeeze it so the connection would be made. It finally stopped working altogether and I bought this one because I thought it would be an inexpensive replacement--Wrong! Tivo doesn't recognize it. End of story.
I've decided to let my Tivo subscription expire, since the adapters that do work with Tivo are expensive and we don't record much with it anyway.
This adapter would probably be good in some other application. It just does NOT work with a Tivo II.

StarTech.com Compact Black USB 2.0 to 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Network Adapter (USB2106S) Opinions
Works Ok . When the Ethernet port on my laptop broke I ordered this to use until I can get it fixed. The installation CD DOES NOT have the drivers for Windows 7 - those have to be downloaded from their website. Once I had the drivers installed it did not work immediately, but after unplugging it and replugging it in several times the computer finally picked up the connection. After about a hour of use the case that holds the connector together somehow completely fell off- It just fits together...nothing really holds it in one piece. The first time I unplugged it (to put the case back on) it wouldn't connect to the internet right away- I had to do the 'plug and unplug' song and dance again to get it to connect. Also at one point it was emitting a high pitched noise when plugged in, but that stopped after a few minutes.
In my opinion, If it is for a single device that will not be unplugged very often, such as a desktop, this would be worth it. If you have to use it as a main connection and will be disconnecting it often - this may not be the best choice.
I will be keeping it until I have a chance to fix my Ethernet port and then just keep it as a back up. For less than $20 it's not that big of a hassle - for now.

Works perfectly . I have a wireless network but it would not hook up to a network from work. They said to get this and it would solve the issue. To my great surprise, it actually did.
All you do is stick the ether net cable in one end and plug the usb into your computer and your done.

Worked Great . Needed this to override my ethernet in order to run a program for work at home. Worked perfectly.
Product Works . I did have some problems with installation but that was only because of my OS system. Once I spoke with Tech Support and downloaded the appropriate software, I was able to fully use the ethernet adapter. I will recommend this product to anyone. Great buy!
Simple product/review . Simply put, this item arrived early, in great shape and did exactly what I needed and wanted it to do. Couldn't ask for more!
Does Its Job . The USB2.0 To Ethernet Adapter was easy to install and did what I needed it to do.
Cons Review
not compatible with Mac OSX Lion . Installed the Mac OSX driver from StarTech.com and went through set up per "read me" doc. After restart, once the adapter is plugged in it is supposed to show up in the configure list under system preferences/network. On new MacBook Air/OS 10.7.1 (Lion) the adapter does not show up and therefore cannot be configured. Re-installed driver and ran through set up steps a number of times. Nothing. The "read me" doc specifically states that the driver has only been tested on 10.4 with Mac Mini and 10.2.8 through 10.4.9 on a Power Mac. Sorry to be a Mac snob, but Tiger, really? Also, driver comes on mini-disk and must be downloaded for slot-drive machines.
Not The Greatest On The Market . While it is easy to use and works great...when not malfunctioning. It happened on the first one so I exchanged. This second one seems to malfunction every other day. If I did not need this specific model for my at home job, I wouldn't buy it again.
