Not recommended . I bought this external DVD unit for both a MacBook Air and an old desktop PC which lacks an internal BluRay drive. On both computers, it was plug-and-play. No software installation was needed.There are a few problems with this drive, however, that I cannot really recommend it. First, it is butt ugly. This is a particularly serious problem with the beautiful MacBook Air. Second, it does not play BluRay on a Mac(although this is probably a universal problem). Third, all external DVD drives require two USB slots to get enough power. This Samsung's two USB male connectors are only 4" apart, way too short for the MacBook, which has the two USB outlets on opposite sides, so an extension cable is needed. Finally, and most importantly, I encountered intermittent problems loading a DVD to the PC. Occasionally, the drive would fail to get a stable connection and it would become necessary to unplug and replug the USB connectors. This is definitely a quality issue, but it does not happen frequently enough to warrant the hassle of exchanging it. Still, there are many alternatives on the market. Some of them have to be better than this Samsung.
