Reliability without the premium cost . I've been using Netgear switches reliably and happily for about 6 years now. I started out using their Pro Safe 4-8 port switches in the home and had nary a problem with them. I did have an 8 port switch burn out after 3 years of heavy use (GS108), and even though it was a model that was released before they offered lifetime warranty and I was 6 months out of mine, they went above and beyond and volunteered to replace it with a new unit that came with a lifetime warranty, even though I didn't bring up any complaint. Their customer service and support division is outstanding and Netgear really does stand behind their products, which is something I can appreciate. Dealing with their customer service was a fast, friendly and zero hassle affair-- within 5 minutes I had a return label emailed to me.

All of their switches carry a lifetime warranty, so these switches are a fairly safe investment for your infrastructure needs. I've since upgraded my office with two of their 24 port switches and they have worked flawlessly. Everyone i've recommended them to has been very happy with them, as well as being very happy with the price, compared with comparable unmanaged switches by other manufacturers.
GS724T-300 - ProSafe® 24-port Gigabit Smart Switch Reviews
Quality Entry-Level Switch . I have owned two of these 24pt Gig switches for 3 years. I am very happy. The other reviewer is correct: the fan does make noise, but since I keep them in my basement that doesn't bother me.
Great Value . There is no need to pay more for a smart switch. Just wish the cooling fan was a tad quieter.
GS724T-300 - ProSafe® 24-port Gigabit Smart Switch Opinions
product works well documented well . If you haven't setup a device like this in the past, there are a few details in the documents that you will want to have at hand before you get to it. Go ahead and look through the manual. The 'quick setup' card that came with it left out one or two items that aren't killers, but will help smooth over a couple of the kinks you may notice later. A few items to note: factory default password (it isn't blank), SNTP server config info (who is your time server = internal or external), and if you aren't on a Windows machine you will likely find it easier to have your network information handy that you wan't to assign to the server. I am not sure how many Windows/Microsoft admins will/would use the included discovery disc... maybe more than I think, but I am thinking not many unless it is their first time. I have worked with *nix and Mac for quite a while so I am used to not having helpful first-timer utilities.
A very fine product for the price with plenty of features that compete with more expensive brands/models. Good warranty too!

Cons Review
Unreliable Hardware Accompanied by Miserable Support . My small business moved offices last fall and purchased the Netgear GS724T v3 ProSafe 24 port smart switch to set up in the new office space in advance of our move. It was selected as an inexpensive alternative to an HP switch that was nearly 50% more expensive. We are a small company with a single switch in our network of 15 Workstations and 5 network printers. Initially we were thrilled with the performance of this 1000mbps switch in comparison to the 5 years old 100mpbs switch we had been using. Bu just 4 months later our entire network would bog down during business hours and the switch would rendomly reboot itself every week or two. Nobody was doing anything exceptionally network intensive and at first we were chasing after our Internet provider as the source of the problem. Then it became clear that the problem was with the switch. We called Netgear support and wasted over an hour and a half to simply be told to rest the device to the original factory configuration and also upgrade the firmware though they said there was no problem with the firmware that we had. Of course these were things that we had already done. The support call was abysmal and after this call I completely understand why every business that cares about reliability uses HP or Cisco switches as thier products don't have quality problems like Netgear, and in the rare ocassion that support is needed they actually have support that can help. Calling Netgear business support was just like calling Netgear home support about your junky $20 home router. Netgear does not care about your time and the technicians are not trained to either act professional or know about their product. When you call support and you have to tell them things about the device it is clear they don't bother to train their people who seem to be pausing to read between each question. We thought we were being smart and saving a few hundred dollars but have learned our lesson. Perhaps you can learn from this and not have to suffer the productivity loss that our business suffered or the time wasted in talking to Netgear to obtain a replacement that we will have no confidence in or desire to ever use. Saving a meager few hundred instead of an HP was a mistake. We will never buy Netgear for business again. Their product is unreliable and their support is horrible. I suspect that most of the positive reviews are initial impressions of the device. Remember we initially were impressed with it to but it failed after only four months. Now we know better. Avoid Netgear for your business. Think about the cost of having 15 people unable to function efficiently in your office, what does that cost you each hour? Buy a switch that you know will work.
