Long range coverage to my yard . like the other review here, i bought this with the Pro Repetaer to use for my backhouse which is about 100 yards away from my main lodge. works great when paired with the Repeater. Good strong signal and the product pays for itself since i dont need to bring in a separate line from my ISP to the back house. Using speedtest i get about 30mbps down which is really good. Happy with my purchase and amped has good techsupport. Walked me through setup quickly and they knew what they were talking about. Thanks Amazon for fast shipping and relevant product reviews
Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N 600mW Pro Access Point (AP600EX) Reviews
Great for the Marina and Boats - Great SERVICE! . I work at a marina where we tried to provide Wi-Fi access to docked boats. Searched around for many APs to find that they were all very very expensive. Then came across this one online and did some research and found that they have very positive reviews for all their products on amazon and other websites so i decided to give it a shot. I called their sales agents first using the number on this website and they were very friendly and knowledgeable. Recommended that i use this in conjunction with their other "Pro Series" products: A USB adapter and a range extender. so i went ahead and tried this AP out first and I am not disappointed. The AP is very high quality and they include everything you need to get it setup. No need to buy extra cables, mounting kits and parts. we put this up on a pole using the included very long cable and put the other end to our router's network port. No other setup was needed. Boats are now able to see the network from further out and for those that are a mile or so off shore we recommend that they use the USB Adapter (Pro Edition). i think the model number is UA600EX but not 100% on that. Anyways, so far its been great and customer service has been as well. We often lend the adapter out to boats that we are familiiar with and whenever they come back they go and buy one for themselves. Finally a good solution!
Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N 600mW Pro Access Point (AP600EX) Opinions
Great AP - Used with their SR600EX . I'm posting this review in connection with their SR600EX which i purchased first...i'm using both of these together and its been nothing but WiFi bliss :) So i've searched around for many repeaters and access points for my wi-Fi range extending problem and I came across those from Hawking, Linksys, among many others. I saw this one on an Engadget review and came to my favorite shopping location to purchase it (Amazon) I actually purcahsed the SR600EX repeater first and then purchased this one later after being recommended by the Amped support agent..... Received the unit very quickly and the first thing i noticed is that the box was heavier than i thought it was going to be (around 3 lbs or so). This was already a good sign since i was used to those cheap, lightweight plastic computer products. But this was not one of them. The Pro Access Point came with a 30 foot cable, a metal desktop stand (which I didn't need), another 3 foot patch cable, a power over ethernet adapter and power adapter. The unit itself is made with very good craftsmanship and also looks really slick. Now to the application..I have a backhouse thats about 500-750 feet from my front house which i have a linksys router. The backhouse gets 0 signal. I purchased the SR600EX and set it up in my backhouse and placed the AP600Ex in the front house. Attached the power adapter to the wall and connected the PoE adapter to it (Amped includes very helpful tags so only a dummy would connect it wrong). Anyways i placed the repeater on the outside wall of the backhouse and then did a scan w/ my computer. There was my linksys network!! I now have full bars in the backbouuse and whats best is the PoE adapter also has an extra RJ-45 port where i've connected by wired bluray player with Netflix! I have my IPad which i can use freely throughout the 1000 sq ft backhouse as well as in my yard beyond the backhouse.I called Amped's service department also to see how i could get my speed faster and the very friendly rep recommended pairing it up with the AP600EX (this unit which i installed in the front house and pointed it towards the backhouse). The agent told me that this setup was good for 2 miles+ and that its always good to have HIGH POWER UNITS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CONNECTION (he really stressed this point) but all i needed it for was 500 ft or so. Either way, i'm ecstatic, my wife is happy and the kids are also! I highly recommend Amped based on their product performance and customer service! Thanks Amped!
Got me connected... satisfied and recommended buy . I've read most of the reviews on here (both the negs and pros) and made the plunge. i'm glad i did since i really needed a solution to get wifi throughout my business. i have a yard where i have techs in the field that use tablets to go online. although the yard wasn't that big (maybe 100 yards) or so, it was large enough that my router couldn't cover. so instead i hooked this thing up directly to it and installed the ap outside (mounted on my wall). It worked great and now we have wifi throughout the yard (except the far corner where we have a shed). I talked to a tech about getting the barn connected as well and they recommended using the unit with their repeater (SR600EX). so i went ahead and did this too. worked like a charm.the product is good quality and comes with everything you need. some networking products do not include things like cables and straps. this one comes with everything so you do not have to go out and spend more money. great buy. recommended!
awesome access point . This access point works great. i use it to provide access througout my office warehouse. the very friendly customer service agent advised me that to get the full benefit you needed to either connect to the repeater or another high power adapter (to get the full 1.5mi) although thats much more than i needed and the performance by itself was stellar, i went ahead and got their UA600EX as well. by itself i had an increase of about 75% from my orignal range, with the UA600EX combined i'm now getting further than i can actually go. A+++ great job amped

Cons Review
Just didn't work . I was excited when I read the reviews and detailed specs on the amped website. I had a Dlink DAP-1522 that had terrible range and I was looking for something that would cover my 2700 sq ft house plus the back patio. I use wireless for my iPod, Kindle and Wii.The product looks well built but apparently that was not the case in the unit I received. It connected easily and I was able to access it from the wired side of my network to configure it. DHCP assigned an address of 100.0.0.104 which I could use in my browser. The setup address they suggest in the manual will only work from the wireless client. Contrary to what the manual says and confirmed by tech support the AP can be configured from the wired side. The problem was that I only got 2 bars on the iPod from 6 ft away. Even with the 2 bars the iPod wouldn't connect to the AP with the default password, a new password or without any password configured. Range was less than my old AP. The kindle couldn't find the AP wireless network at all from 3 ft away.Firmware was v1.2f dated Sep 15, 2011. The firmware update doesn't tell you whether you have the latest version or not - it just takes you to thee website that has a firmware download file. No designation or information on what version that update is - it could be the same as the installed version. Updating the firmware didn't change the AP from v1.2f so I assume it's the latest version as of writing. Two comments on the parts that I could see. The AP configuration doesn't allow for a NETBIOS name, so it isn't clearly shown in DHCP lease assignments. The AP did not show in Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 network map as Dlinks automatically do. After a few emails with tech support who offered to replace it if necessary I decided it wasn't worth the effort and returned it. I bought a Dlink DAP-2553, had it configured with a new password and to obtain an IP from DHCP in under 10 minutes. My N range for 3 bars on the iPod doubled and that's really all I was looking for. The dlink configuration menu has more than twice the settings of the Amped AP. Whether you need any of it or not depends on your own situation.Maybe this is a 5 star product when it works. I don't know. For me it either works right out of the box or it doesn't. When it doesn't I can offer only 1 star. As a very experienced network and systems builder I'm not interested in dealing with Tech support to get their product to work as it should.
Worst Piece of Crap I've come across . So to start, I'm a cable technician that works with routers and modems every day so I know my way around this kind of stuff. I originally bought a pro access point and this pro repeater to connect my brother to my internet, he's about .4 miles away in town. Before i tried to do this I took my setup out to the country and did a line of site test from my parents house to about a mile away. The thing worked almost right away, after some initial headaches with resetting the routers a couple times. Now i decided i would get the 14dB directional antennas to attach to the AP and Repeater and use the external antenna feature to get a more directional, and higher power signal. This is where everything went horribly wrong. First of all, connecting the coax connector to the jack on the repeater/AP is really hard, what does a person have to be a fairy with toothpicks for fingers to just get this thing screwed on. I'm a cable guy, so i was able to get it probably easier than most since i'm used to screwing coax connectors on jacks. So i tested the setup from a further distance away in the country Line of Sight, before that i tested them right next to each other to make sure they worked. So after many hours of trying the external antennas i was unable to get the repeater connected to the Access Point, either via the external antenna or the internal antenna. I was able to get a signal in the scan list with the internal antenna, but not with the external antenna on the repeater. I was also able to pick up the signal with my phone's WiFi (Evo 4G) and used it to find the best point at which the signal was the strongest (about 39dB from 2.2mi away. Now I know 2.2 mi is more than the 1.5mi advertised, but LOS and with the external antennas it should at least have connected to each other. Now come to find out after getting back and trying these close together a few days later that the darn repeater was not setting up the wireless security settings for the AP correctly, even at close range. So I tried resetting settings, etc etc and still it would not automatically set it correctly. I did it manually but now the stupid thing wouldn't work either with the external antenna or internal antenna, it picked up networks fine, but when trying to connect to one it just wouldn't do it. Now this really pissed me off, but it could have been my fault because of the little warning "DO not turn on external antenna without having it attached" I may have had it disconnected for a few minutes with the external setting on. Now shame on me, but it should not be so darn picky when it costs almost $200 it should be able to figure itself out. But it still was able to pick up signals from far away, just not connect. So i bought myself another one figuring it might have been messed up. This was after getting the AP setup on my roof on a 20ft pole with the directional external antenna attached, and another 20ft pole on my brother's house with the repeater to get the best LOS I could being this is in the city. So after hours and hours of trying to get the repeater to connect to the Access point, even with a 65% signal from the AP i couldn't get the things to talk to each other. I couldn't get the Repeater to talk to anything, and with the external antenna it wouldn't pick up any signal whatsoever, even though they were both pointing in the exact same direction. So on to the second Repeater. I got it and decided to just connect it to someone's open wireless, i got it working with a 55% signal strength and got it to something like 10mbps download and 3mbps upload speed off this person's open network with the new repeater (no external antenna, that was still stuck on the roof with the first repeater). Now after all this I had to wait a couple weeks to get it back up on the roof because i had other pressing matters to attend to, like work and my home-life. So i left the repeater powered on and connected, but my brother had to get cable internet in the mean time, but could cancel if I could get my wireless connection working before trial period. So finally i get back to putting the repeater on the pole and connected to the external antenna. Now, like an idiot i didn't try it again before getting it all setup because i know i didn't do anything i wasn't supposed to do with the repeater. So after having the repeater scan for networks, the stupid thing didn't find anything, now i know my other repeater found at least 5 networks no matter what direction i pointed it at, so somethings wrong. I try the external antenna and of course nothing. So i take the stupid thing back down and try pointing it in the direction of the open network i had this repeater connected to originally, and now i can only get 1 network in the scan list, and of course it won't connect. So now I'm out almost $400 bucks because Amped Wireless Repeaters Suck the Big One, and that's just the money I payed for the repeaters, the other stuff may or not be useful for something else. Not sure if my Access Point is still working or not, because it's still up on my roof. Now that the snow and cold's a coming and with limited amount of time anyways, i'm not going to be able to get this wireless connection working anytime soon because i pretty much am giving up.I know i had this stuff pointed at each other correctly, because when turning either one just a little they would lost signal with each other. Also I tried many o time resetting the repeaters and tried multiple signal types from the Access Point and no luck. What a waste of time.In Short, DON'T BUY AMPED WIRELESS STUFF, it is wayyyyy to finicky and buggy for any application.
Disappointed........ . I am not an early adopter and rarely buy items that don't have reviews by at least ten (10) Amazon Verified Purchasers. This product purchase was one of my exceptions. I bought the product to use in my home (about 4,000 sq ft) since the signal was a bit weak in my bedroom (1-2 bars for my phone and 2-3 bars for my tablet pc). Suffice it to say that while the AP600EX was easy to set up, it did not extend my range at all. In fact, I get one bar LESS in my bedroom when connected to the AP600EX compared to my regular router. I also got zero bars at my mailbox which is just about 200 feet away.I rebooted the AP600EX twice to retest with no change then tried resetting twice also with no improvement.Overall.... disappointed!
