This review is from : Iomega 35029 ScreenPlay MX HD 1 TB Media Player (Black)
Convenient MultiMedia . The iomega ScreenPlay MX is an extremely easy to use, multimedia player. What is a multimedia player? Essentially any media (audio, photos, video) file from your computer can be copied onto this player and then easily played.

Essentially this is a 1 Terabyte hard drive (1,000 GB) that seamlessly plays multimedia files for you when connected to your audio/video system. So unlike a computer, you don't need to worry about software or software updates (although in theory you might want to update the software of the ScreenPlay MX itself at some time in the future if they enhance it). Playing a song or movie is as easy as navigating to the file and pressing "play" (select) on the remote.

It does take a little time (30 seconds?) to "boot up", so it is not quite "instant on" (few devices these days really are).

There are no buttons on this device, you control it completely via the remote (so don't lose the remote!).

The remote does have volume controls which adjust the volume of the media player itself and thus you rarely need to pick up a separate remote to adjust your audio volume.

There is a full manual you can download, or read online, from iomega's website but it's extremely unlikely you would ever need it. Pretty much everything is obvious with a small amount of "trial and error".

The unit does get extremely hot when being used. There is no cooling fan and the hard drive is extremely quiet. So if little noises like the spinning sounds of your DVD player annoy you, relax this unit is dead silent.

I love the convenience of this unit. The large 1 TB hard drive will hold a lot of data (approximately 200 typical DVDs). So I can rip my entire music CD collection to electronic files (I prefer OGG format over MP3s) and have all of my music available via easy remote control selection. And I can load dozens of my favorite DVDs so they are conveniently always available (very handy for instructional DVDs which you may watch often).

One valuable usage is that this device can serve as a backup for your computer's hard drive. So if you've bought a lot of music or collected lots of video (perhaps all your own vacation videos), copy it to this player and leave the master copy on your computer.

Power on/off is a bit weird on this device. It's no problem when connected to your TV as the remote puts it into "standby" (which appears to be completely powered off). But when disconnecting from your computer the only way to power it down seems to be to unplug it. There is a push button power switch on the back of the unit but this seems to only work to turn it on (not to turn it off).

One of my WMV files doesn't play on this player but others do. I'm sure there are a few odd codecs that aren't supported. It also would not play the .MTS files taken with my digital camcorder (software that reads this is fairly rare). Also it would not play a .3GP video file (taken with my Droid 2 phone).

Favorite features:
* Plays OGG format audio!
* Small physical size (sits next to HDTV very nicely)

Concerns or flaws:
* Very hot! Potentially this may mean a short life span.
* Not "instant on"
* Can't be powered off after connecting to computer
Iomega 35029 ScreenPlay MX HD 1 TB Media Player (Black) Reviews
For what it does which is somewhat limited it works well. . I was given the chance to review this item, and I was interested in putting it through the its paces. I already own other Iomega products, including a network hard drive, and a WDTV Live, and I am basing my review on prior ownership for reasons which will be made clear.

1. What's in the box? I received a 1TB drive, power cable, a USB cable, plus a remote and composite cables, plus a very limited instruction booklet. YOu will need to purchase a HDMI cable and perhaps a coaxial cable for use with a stereo unit.
2. Ease of set-up: Set-up was both easy and sort of maddening at the same time. Easy in the sense that I simply plugged the unit in and hit power on the remote and the system worked. However, since it is a empty drive, I needed to load information on to the drive, and the fun began. The instruction booklet did not tell me why my computer did not recognize the drive. After replacing the USB cable in different ports to no avail, I began to question if I received a bum drive. After thinking for a while, I went to the Iomega support website and found that this is a frequent problem. The issue is that the power/reset button on the back needs to be used to power the drive when using a computer so it will be recognized. The remote powers the drive so it can be used on the television, not for recognition by the computer.
After solving this dilemma, set-up was easy. I simply transferred my desired media files to the drive and it worked like any other hard drive.
3. Use: Using the remote button, I hot power and my flat-screen television instantly recognized the unit (using my HDMI cable). The interface is pleasant, and nice looking. It is also very intuitive. You will see the folders of information (or however else you choose to set-up your drive) and you scroll down and hit play, and there you go - the file will play on your television. I used the drive using ripped DVD's (fair use MPAA), music (again, purchased by me RIAA) and home movies (these are mine, but if Hollywood is interested, I have an agent) and they all played. I did not try all formats such that I had any issues as the files I used were familiar formats so I cannot comment on certain types of files not being recognized.
I found the use was easy, and fairly quick.

Pros:
1. Low cost
2. Good capacity: 1TB is pretty large and can hold an awful lot of information.
3. Intuitive: This unit is pretty easy to use, and I think most computer users would have no problem figuring it out.

Neutral:
1. Not impressed on the initial lack of instruction. I should not have to go to the website to resolve the question of why my computer does not recognize the drive (see above).
2. The unit does get hot after being on for hours. I would not keep this type of drive on for hours and hours, but I don't understand how there are seemingly no vents or internal fans that I can hear. The longevity of this unit is in question.
3. You will have to supply your own HDMI cable and perhaps a coaxial cable for sound through your stereo. I don't understand why an HDMI cable cannot be supplied now since few people use composite cables in my small universe.

Cons:
1. Unlike the new WDTV Live, this unit cannot be utilized as a network drive with wireless access. Again, I am not blaming the product for not being something else, but owning both products described above, it does seem as though this is bridging a gap that doesn't need a bridge. This is essentially a glorified hard drive with HDMI and Coaxial ports so you can plug it in directly to your flat-screen. It is not a network drive like the Iomega Network drive that is constantly on and holds all your digital information in one place for network access. Nor is it a portal for pulling up digital information from your network and also allowing you to stream services like Amazon VOD, Netflix, Youtube, Pandora and others such as my networked WDTV Live does. So again, before purchasing this item, you need to ask yourself what is the main purpose of this drive and make a decision accordingly.

Conclusions:
Overall, I think this is a nice drive. It does exactly what it states it will do for the user, which is limited, but still useful. I cannot blame Iomega for making something that could be something else. However, considering Iomega's other products, I have to wonder whether this is the right solution for everyone. I suspect it is not. I imagine an ideal use for this item is a individual or company that has lots of multimedia presentations, and digital files that they would need to be displayed easily through a television. For this, the unit is ideal. For me, I think it is solving a problem I am not sure I had prior to receiving this item.

Again, for what it does, it is very good and seems reliable, even if limited.
Iomega 35029 ScreenPlay MX HD 1 TB Media Player (Black) Opinions
Dollar for Dollar not a bad machine . Lets start with the down side: There are little instructions with this device, so you have to just plug it in and see what you can move to the media player. Though the output is an HDMI cable, that does not mean what you have coming out of the device is always 1080p. The control system on the computer side is whacky - there's no on or off, just plug and pull, and on the TV side - god forbid you lose the remote, because this device just became totally worthless. Last, The thing runs hot.

On the upside: Easy to use. Light weight and fast. Can be used as a computer back-up if you want. Huge storage at 1TB. If the source image was good, the output image is good (what, in the days of video tape, we would have called zero degredation). Both AV output and HDMI output. Last, Price point (at least on Amazon) is fair.

The real question you have to ask youself when you get a device like a HD Media Player is, do I really need it? For the most part, they tend to be toys that are used for a while as a novelty and then shelved. If you really will use the device, you will appreciate its basic functionality. This is a pretty good buy for the price.
Fantastico pero con HDMI. .

The Matrix.rmvb The Matrix.jpeg.

El Calentamiento no es de mi agrado, pero asi son los Discos Duros.
Who needs a separate stereo system with this hooked up to your Surround Sound outfit? . Not me! That's what I really do love about Iomega's ScreenPlay MX Media Player! This drive does exactly what I wish my other external hard drive would do, which is allow me to hook it up to my entertainment center and use it as my music player! Since I'm just not a huge fan of iPods, iPhones, iPads, iPoods, or anything else Apple-made, overpriced, and over-hyped (I'm SURE they're spectacular; I'm just not interested in owning/buying any of 'em), Iomega's ScreenPlay MX series of Media Players are RIGHT up my alley! I use this with my new Surround Sound system and corresponding receiver to provide all of my entertainment in one centralized location - perfect for my one-bedroom apartment!

I don't have any need for viewing digital movies via my ScreenPlay MX, since I've got Netflix via my Wii, and an excellent Toshiba DVD-R hooked up to my receiver in my entertainment center, but I have no doubt that the ScreenPlay MX would play digital video content as cleanly and clearly as it does my music collection (which is what I REALLY wanted it for)! I got rid of my old stereo system quite a few years back, and this media player, paired with the Atlantic Technology FS-7.0-GLB 7-channel surround bar (Gloss Black) that I recently got, provides great sharp, clean sound, and is VERY user-friendly with its viewable on-screen interface and accompanying remote control (now, if only I can figure out what code to punch into my Onkyo TX-SR508 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)'s universal remote, I'll be thrilled to be rid of one more remote)! I've also, just to be safe, saved an additional system image from my desktop onto my Iomega 1TB ScreenPlay MX Media Player. To me, reserving 20% of the drive's memory to have an extra EXTRA full system copy is worth the loss of that amount of memory in the event that BOTH my system's hard drive and Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive fail (I don't expect it to ever happen, but one can never have too many contingency plans)!

Overall, I'm happy to be the owner of one of Iomega's ScreenPlay MX Media Players. Yes, they ARE just a little more pricey than your standard 1 TB external drive might currently be, but for the added ability to hook it up to your entertainment center and play media directly from it, I think it's worth about the twenty or thirty extra clams that you'll pay for this vs. any other reputable, high-functioning external hard drive on the market.

Great features, user-friendliness, and good pricing to me equal a smart buy in the case of this product!
Seagate Home Theater+ - I love it. . My only issue with this gem is the fact that you can not categorize your media. I have 2TB of movies and its painful to browse all these movies. If I could divide my movies into categories, (Horror, Comedy, Action, etc) then this device would be perfect.

I can not comment on the online services that are offered as I do not use them.

Great Product . These is a great product. The storage capability is incredible. I have over 200 of my favorite movies on it and I can still add more. Loading movies is a little slow, but it holds a lot of data, media, pictures, whatever you put on it. Your very own METFLIX!
Iomega: Worth Every Penny. . I purchased this Media Player because of the price and memory, since I have a 1 TB older Iomega ScreenPlay Pro HD media player that I used daily. I love this new one for many reasons and the first one being the design. This media player is smaller and lays horizontally on my TV stand, whereas my previous version was tall- not wide like this one- and it sat vertically, which caused me to live in constant fear that someone would knock it over and break the fan (that happened to my sister's). The design was an extremely important aspect of this purchase for me and I can tell you that I am completely satisfied with this. Another reason I love this media player is that it has a USB port right in the front! I just hook my older Iomega into it and I have 3 TB of pure joy : ) Yet another reason I love this new Iomega of mine is that the home screen looks amazing, in comparison to my older model. The icons are great, the color is great, it is just fun to turn on and is more modern and up-to-date. The one feature I do miss from my older model is the little "sneak-peek" window, as I call it. With my ScreenPlay Pro I could hover over a file for a moment and the video or picture would be displayed in the small window so that I could remind myself what that file was before actually selecting it. This is really not a big deal but I would have much preferred this Iomega ScreenPlay MX HD to the previous one at the time I bought it but times change and so does technology. To sum it up, I really enjoy this device, me family members are going to upgrade, my niece loves it took her about 30 seconds to master it. The setup is as easy as plugging it up... seriously.... and when I have company over they go right toward this little thing and envy me and my 2 TBs of pure madness.

Cons Review
Piece of JUNK . Spent hours reading to figure out that UNLESS you turn the device on through the switch that is on the back (ie not through remote)it will not be seen by windows 7.But the ultimate was when I connected to TV and realized it plays everything in BLACK and WHITE (component connection). Now if the company had made that clarification, I would understand. But they have NOT. The Iomego forum has dozens of threads from people battling the same issue.Well, I have no time. Mine is in the mail for a refund !Junk from a junk company and junky support !
