Fastest ADSL2 Modem Tested . Review is for a ZyXEL P-660RU-Tx v2 used as a basic modem only in bridge mode in conjugation with a stand-alone router/firewall which makes the PPoE connection and does all of the real work. As such, the P-660RU is one of a few devices remaining on the market which provide basic ADSL connectivity and little else (although it can also be setup as router for a single device). For my needs, these limits are very positive. For my purposes, the P-660RU excels. The setup entails changing one drop-down selection to "Bridge". Most importantly, my connection speed with this device is 10% - 15% faster than these devices, using the same router and Verizon's speed test site at the same times: -Verizon Westell 7500
-Westell 6100
-D-Link DSL-2320BMine failed after a couple of months, exhibiting random and frequent disconnects, but Zyxel replaced it very quickly with no hassle at all. If I didn't have 3 somewhat inferior backups, I'd buy another, just in case.

P660M-D1 is a modem only no routing . P660M-D1 is the modem only version. It does no routing and has no web page interface. If you need to reconfigure it, you need to use a telnet session. No need to bridge this like most people do with the router versions they get from Sprint/Embarq/CenturyLink. I don't know what other ISPs may send a rebadged version of this, but I'm guessing they also do the router version. We had to buy one recently for work because CenturyLink decided to start charging a lease fee for new modems on new lines. So we told them to keep their modem/router and we bought this. It has been working well and it is nice not to have to bridge it and worry about it resetting and not being bridged like the regular router models.

Cons Review
Zyxel ADSL modem 600 series. . I bought this brand of modem because my ISP (Earthlink) uses it and assured me that they would be able to assist me with the initial setup. They were unable to do so after multiple, several hour, phone calls. They alternately said the problem was with the modem, then the PC, then the other PC I tried to set it up with. The PCs use different OSs, and are different brands, so I doubt the PCs are the problem. However, I doubt the modem is bad either. My advice is to not buy a Zyxel modem if you use Earthlink, as they are unable to help you get them to work.
EarthLink Wouldn't Support This Modem . The modem passed all the standard tests, but I couldn't connect to my ISP, EarthLink. EarthLink wouldn't support this modem because they didn't sell it to me, even though it is one of the models they sell (for about twice the price). If your ISP is EarthLink, beware! I believe (my conjecture -- may or not be correct) that when EarthLink sells you a modem or provides one, they associate its MAC address with your account. (Their technicians deny that, or don't know.) If you change modems on your own, it won't work. I returned the modem (although there was likely nothing wrong with it), cancelled EarthLink, and went with another ISP (who provided a router!).
