Seagate GoFlex Drive & USB 3.0 Desktop Adapter . I bought a 2TB GoFlex drive from Costco, and the USB 3.0 adapter (base) from Amazon. Everything works fine and performance with the USB 3.0 adapter is noticeably better than USB 2.0.

I have only two minor issues:

1. The drive + base is not very stable. It is tall and narrow which means it will topple over with the slightest bump.

2. The USB 3.0 base comes with a brand new "international" power supply. While this might be fine for some, it made me wonder why the new base even came with a power supply when the original unit already had one? That said, the snap in plug adapters worked well. I just threw out all the non-US adapters.

Amazon's price for the USB 3.0 adapter was better than the stores but I wish Seagate would just use the 3.0 base as their only option. A USB 3.0 device will work fine plugged into a USB 2.0 port, so there is no reason for Seagate to offer a separate adapter other than as an excuse to sell you something else.
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter - USB 3.0 STAE106 Reviews
Upgraded from USB 2 . I find Arthur's review to be interesting ... this base is for the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex (SFG, my abreviation) product so it wasn't designed to be used with a bare hard drive as it appears he has done.

I bought the SFG 2tb with USB2 base before the USB3 base became available. It is literally plug and play. The only evidence that it is present is (a) the tray icon and (b) intense periodic backups bring the computer to a standstill for a few seconds. When this USB3 adapter became available, I bought it. Upgrade requires installation of the PCI board, exchanging the bases, and using the power supply and USB3 cable included in the kit. Note that the kit includes power plugs for the variety of plugs found world-wide; India? Australia? Europe? where ever you are, just use the appropriate power plug on the universal adapter. Cool!

Installation routine, once the base is changed, etc., is: The USB3 cable is FIRST plugged into an existing USB2 port, the software/drivers are installed, THEN the USB3 cable is moved from the USB2 port to the USB3 port and it is up and running. In my experience, the upgrade speeds up the periodic backup process by approx 2.5x. What did take about 10 seconds per episode is now about four seconds; the "standstill" during the process is still obvious, just not as long.

No problems whatsoever, only the "standstill" being a bit of a frustration; thus four stars.

(I notice the "verified purchase" does not show up, but this was bought via Amazon.)
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter - USB 3.0 STAE106 Opinions
Good base for the Goflex hard drive . I had originally bought the wireless goflex drive to use with time machine on my mac.The problem with the wireless drive is it is not 100% compatible with the Mac OS, and
every 30 days you have to reinstall it for time machine to work.So - I decided to go wired and bought this base which was inexpensive and solves the
issues with the wireless version of the go-flex drive.A good fit and the shipping was fast. Overall a good experience for a work around
you will need if you run time machine on these drives.
Works well. . Easy to install. The hard drive is definitely faster using USB 3.0. Just make sure that your computer has a USB 3.0 plug.
USB 3.0 Adapter Seagate . Blazing fast connection. USB 3.0 is the way to go. It is worth the money. Seagate can go between Mac and PC easily. Good for me cause I have both.
The Good and the Bad . First off, I bought this to be used with a regular internal hard drive:

GOOD:
1) It works - you plug in the hard drive, connect the USB and power and it shows up immediately on the computer.
2) Have been using it to transfer files and keep a back up and have had no problems.

BAD:
1) The design - a regular hard drive does not sit flush against the base. It leans over and stresses the connection points which is VERY bad. To fix this I place a certain amount of index cards between the base of the device and the base of the hard drive to give it the support it lacks.
2) The design - it should have a horizontal mode. The vertical nature of the device means that if you knock it over...well there goes your data - hard drives have moving parts and must remain stationary. So just BE CAREFUL. Don't place it by your mouse where your elbow can knock it over.

Cons Review
Still slow USB connections speeds via 3.0USB . I have several computers, one PC that has a built in USB 3.0 direct on the board and the other uses a PCI express card. Transfer speeds start off very quick around 80 Mb/s but within 15 seconds drop to 16 MB/s. Both my computers are new, both have Intel i7 processors and over 8 gigs of RAM. In my opinion, split open the case, take the hard drive out and either use as an internal drive or buy a SATA enclosure. When I placed it into an enclosure I maintain 60 MB/s connections via eSATA.
Careful may not be complete. . I ordered this item expecting it to include the power supply and cable. The seller shipped ONLY the adapter, no cable or power supply. Amazon will refund me, buyer beware, if you need the power supply and cable, you should contact the seller to verify what they are selling.
