HP Wireless 802.11 b/g/n PCIe Card FH971AA Network Adapters - Wireless

This review is from : HP FH971AA Wireless PCIe x1 Card
Great card a little technical though. . This card was replacing a usb wireless network card, so it is a vast improvement. The internet connection we have goes through a brick wall, but this card has no problems picking up a solid connection. It has great connectivity and speed- though the speed is based more off of your network rather than the card itself. The only thing to take note of is the connection manager. I am a computer IT Tech., so it wasn't hard for me to set-up, but for the more computer illiterate people might have a bit of a hard time. Honestly though, do let that stop you from getting this card, it works great! (One advantage too add as well is that the antenna is connected by a length of wires, which means you can elevate the antenna higher than other wireless network cards, and for best connection results- i.e.: strength of signal, you should ideally have your antenna at the same level as your wireless router.)
HP FH971AA Wireless PCIe x1 Card Reviews
HP FH971AA Wireless PCIe x1 Card . First of all, make sure you have a PCI express x1 slot available on your motherboard. (PCI express x1 slot is smaller than standard PCI slots) You should know how to line up the card with the motherboard. (look it up on youtube if you need to see a tutorial)

The package should contain a wireless card in an anti-static bag, a low profile slot cover (for thinner cases), a CD with the drivers (RT2860) and a wireless Dual Band Dipole Antenna with 1 long wire that splits into 2 wires [attach to the back of the card] (an advantage over other wireless cards because you can move the antenna around).

Note: the wireless card will receive a poor signal without the "Wireless Dual Band Dipole Antenna" (which is included with the package).

Once you attach the antenna to the back of the slot cover, you will be able to receive a good signal. I was able to receive a good signal (100% or 5 bars) from my router (behind two thick walls). I was able to pick up about 18 other network around my home. My old wireless USB adapter could not even receive more than 5 networks at 70%.

Note: Wireless speed is dependent on your internet speed as well as other conditions like distance and noise (wireless).

I had to replace a horrible wireless USB adapter from Netgear (WN111v1). The wireless USB adapter (Netgear) was the worst piece of **** I've ever bought in my life. On the other hand, my brother bought a HP computer with a wireless card and dipole antenna that was able to receive a good signal from the router three rooms away. I knew I would be able to find a similar model on Amazon and this was the one.

Anyways, once you have everything connected, I turn on my computer (Windows Vista at the time) and the windows hardware wizard will show up. You can install the drivers provided by Microsoft or close the wizard and install the drivers from the CD. The wireless card should work after all your wireless settings are set up.

I would definitely recommend this product to others. It's easy to install once you get the hang of it.

Update:
I clean installed Windows 7 (about 8 days ago). The card worked without installing any Windows update. This wireless card definitely works in Windows 7. The card should work right out of the box on Windows 7 without installing any drivers.

HP FH971AA Wireless PCIe x1 Card Opinions
Wireless PCIe x1 Card . Great product! I truly appreciate the external antenna as my current case (SilverStone Fortress) would not allow for the antenna to be attached directly to the card.
Easy setup. . I bought a new HP computer and figured I could use the wireless card I had in my old computer. I was wrong so I bought the FH971AA. The two problems I had were getting the card slot open, this one had to be popped out and I forgot to check the mac address before I put the cover back on the computer. Ran ipconfig, got the mac address, added it to the allowed connections on my router, the dialog box for the key popped up, I typed that in and immediately connected. Could not have been easier.
Mrs . This product works fantastic. It was so very easy to install. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Cons Review
Doesn't work . I spent almost 2 weeks trying to get this card to work with Windows 7 but had nothing to show for it. In the end I sent it back to HP. By the way, HP has horrible support. Every time I called I spoke to someone I couldn't understand or didn't know how to help or they would just keep transferring me until I couldn't take it anymore and hung up. What really annoyed me the most is that I purposely bought this card from HP because I also have an HP Pavillion desktop and I thought it would be a nice pairing expecially since it advertises that it works with windows 7. If HP makes this card and it doesn't even work with their own equiptment, how's it gonna work with differant brands?
HP WIRELES ADAPTER FOR HP DESK TOP WIN 7 . SEVERAL HOURS DOES NOT WORK NOT COMPATABLE WITH WINDOWS 7 HP SUPPORT LACKING ON THIS PRODUCT WILL RETURN IT AND PURCHASE A GENERIC WIRELESS ADAPTER.
