Got it to work properly with Widcomm drivers on WinXP SP2 . Device works fine, across the room as advertised. It's a pain to install but once accomplished the Widcomm drivers are much superior to Microsoft's.
Here is how I got it to work:
1) From the Device Manager, uninstall any bluetooth devices, if you had any previously
2) Reboot
3) Run the Belkin Widcomm install program (download from Belkin's support web-site) with the adapter -not- connected.
4) When the install software asks you to connect the adapter, click on "Cancel" and still do not insert the adapter.
5) Reboot
6) Insert BT adapter
7) Within the Device Manager, click on the Belkin Bluetooth entry within Bluetooth Radios and do the following:
a. Right click-> Properties -> Driver tab -> Update driver.
b. Install from a specific location - > Don't search. I will choose the driver to install -> Select the 2nd Belkin BT device (the unchecked one because this is the Widcomm one, the checked device driver is the Microsoft one).
8) Reboot
9) Widcomm BT initial configuration software runs by itself. If it doesn't and BT adapter is not seen, reboot.
Although I have Logitech's BT base that comes with their excellent MX900 BT mouse, I like this adapter because it sits in the USB slot out of sight and does not take up any desk room.
It's very convenient to hotsyn my Palm PDA as well as to send files quickly to other computers.

BELKIN F8T001 Bluetooth USB Adapter - 100 Meters Reviews
Works with Windows XP and my Motorola HS850 ... . This was a major pain, but it works in minutes if you follow the procedure.
Using ski_fiend's Sept 15th review (and procedure) for this product, I was able to finally get the WIDCOMM drivers installed and working properly (note step 7b -- that's important). This allowed me to select "Bluetooth Audio" -- in the "Audio" tab at Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices -- for both Sound playback and recording. Once you can do that, you are home free.
The procedure described by ski_fiend is similar to others posted on the net. Step 7b seems to be the key.
Also, make sure you hit the talk button on your HS850 headset to listen/record audio. Otherwise, it won't open the connection to the PC.
I'm listening to music on this right now, and it's pretty good (a little static though). I can walk downstairs and about 60ft away before the static becomes unacceptable.
You need to go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Speech and select Configure Microphone at the bottom to setup the MIC input volume properly.
Any application such as Skype should now work properly through the Belkin F8T001v2 and Motorola HS850.
It even works for World of Warcraft! ;-)

BELKIN F8T001 Bluetooth USB Adapter - 100 Meters Opinions
Works Great on any Windows . Easy to install and feature full software. Works with many Windows versions and Mac OS X. I tested it on Windows 98SE and Windows XP.
Windows XP will hijack adapter first time you plug it in, but it is easy to replace generic MS driver back to the Vendor supplied one (see vendor support web site for intructions).
Works great with my Motorola V710 and Dell Axim X50V on both Win98 and WinXP.

Very good product . The product work great the only problem was a little issue while install on Win XP SP2
Works exactly as Ski Fiend said it would... . ...and I thank you for the excellent directions. I use this adapter on a Dell Inspirion XPS with my Logitech MX900 BT mouse and my Dell Axim X50v handheld and it works as advertised with the exception of the button that switches between open programs. I certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a means to truly go wireless with their laptop computer. I haven't tested the range yet but that wasn't a concern at the time of purchase.
I HAD PROBLEMA TO INSTALL IT . I had problems trying to install it, I have a VAIO, so the controllers didn't recongnize it... I had to reset the computer 3 times to make it work.
It work great...!!! is wonderful, i can send so easy documents from my PC and VAIO to others product with bluetooth, I haven't try it from a distance of 100 meters, but I have done it without any problem from 10 meters.
Even I had problems trying to install it in the VAIO, I could solve then !!!! I recomend it... it is very good and it is also cheap!!!!

Bluetooth Hotsync Fiasco . I have the belkin f8t001 v2 adapter & the 1.4.2 build 10 drivers, I couldn't get to the "Bluetooth Configuration" screen, because the desktop icon "My Bluetooth Places" didn't work. And I also got the ominous "port is in use by..." message.
XP with SP2 was not allowing the belkin bluetooth usb dongle to load drivers, very frustrating.
Google this (it's on the belkin UK site) XPServicePack2andF8T001v2orF8T003v2.pdf
restarted, set it up and it works great now, hope this helps.

Cons Review
Same problem ... . Same problem like the other reviewer mentioned ... You could install the bluetooth device using MS driver and use it for PDA sync etc. , BUT you can't setup a network .. Tried all options .. Might have uninstalled the driver N number of times .. same result ... Belkin support is not good .. THey provide solution in one line "Uninstall the driver and reinstall it again ?" .... They don't know that some people may not be knowing how to uninstall driver ...
DO NOT BUY THIS . This product simply does not work on either Windows 2000 Pro or XP Pro SP1. Customer support was unable to help, having my re-install the drivers (which I had already done). If I could rate this as negative stars, I would.
Bought two both defective according to Belkin . After hours and hours of driver madness and "help" from two Belkin techs, the ones I got were declared defective, so at 100% defect rate, on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I'd give these things half a burning ember!
Tried them on four computers, with known-good USB ports, all drivers they had or offered, re-booted over and over -- nothing.
