Excellent for Open-Mesh 802.11 wireless . We have an Open-Mesh wireless system at a fair sized RV park in which we use access points from various manufacturers. We have had such good luck with this model EnGenius that we are very likely going to standardize on it throughout the park. Easy installation of the Open-Mesh firmware (we are on Rev 2690 at this writing), very nice albeit somewhat directional internal antenna, excellent outdoors construction and specs, uses 24 VDC which is better for outdoors use instead of other lower voltage access points and the higher output power helps and seems to match well to the receive side which is also very good and seems to see PC's out to the transmit range quite nicely.

EnGenius EOC2611P . Great item and fast shipping from Data Vision computer video.

I purchased this item as my old netgear AP had retired itself after a long period of service. The new EnGenius was easy to set up as an access point. I had mine set up in about 15 mins but have done this before may take someone a little longer but plenty of information is on the cd that comes with it .

When you first get the unit it is set up with a default ip address of 192.168.1.1 and if hooked up to your network before configuring may cause an issue with any other networking items using this address.
I would recommend using a patch cable to a laptop or computer first and change the ip address and settings like admin passwords first and than plug it into your network if you already have a router ect using that ip address.

The coverage is far better with this unit than my old netgear and the fact that you can vary your output power via of the web browser is great. Another feature I like is that you can change the antenna orientation via of the browser from vertical to horizontal which by the way seems to work better with all my laptops than the old vertical set up on my old AP.

The unit is full of features that are very handy to to have and some that are very necessary like encryption to keep your network safe and mac address restrictions too as an added layer of security.
I also like the fact that you can add an external antenna, but don't think that many users would need to unless setting up a remote site thats far away and its weather proof too so it can be mounted out side on a pole ect and survive the elements you cant do that with most AP.

The bottom line is it works great has great signal coverage and features, if you buy it I don't think you'll be disappointed

Works Well As A Bridge . We have installed a pair of the Engenius EOC2611P units for use as a wireless bridge. These inexpensive units are communicating well over a 1/2 mile distance, mounted on rooftop antenna posts, utilizing the internal antennas, operating in Diversity mode. They were easy to aim and to adjust the soft settings for maximum signal. Do not know the durability yet since they have only been in place for 2 winter months. The temperature range they have operated in are -15F to +75F in an area with very low humidity. (4 Star rating since don't know durability yet.) Easily mounted on antenna or fence posts. Units came with stainless steel post clamps and PoE injectors.

These were ordered from/sold/shipped by Amazon. The Amazon sourced units do not list the model number EOC2611P in the product header. The units sold by Amazon are in the Automotive department...... Wap/cb Long Range Outdoor Wireless Dual-polarization

For us IT novices - the instructions leave out a few important starting points of information, especially if you are new to the bridge concept as I was. To operate in Bridge mode:

1. Both units must be setup with exactly the same SSID but different IP addresses.
2. One unit is set up as an "Access Point". This is your "base" unit. (We plugged ours into our Router. We let the Router be the IP address DHCP server starting in a range higher the the fixed IP addresses we gave the Engenius units. Made sure the Engenius units were not acting as IP address DHCP servers.)
3. One unit is set up as a "Client Bridge". This is your "remote" unit. (We plugged this into an 8 port Switch at the remote location, into which we connected some Allworx VoIP phones, desktop PCs and 2 local wireless access points. The Allworx VoIP phones work well through this bridge. However, the Allworx control box setup was done by professional techs. The Engenius units are operating in Super G mode.)

You also need to temporarily modify your computer's ethernet hardware settings to initially program the units (direct connect unit to PC with an ethernet cable + the PoE Injector). The instructions explain how to do this. You will need to get to the Properties for your ethernet adapter card/hardware having to do with "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" to manually setup an IP address to talk to the unit. Once these units are setup, you can access them through your newly IP addresses from within your network. Don't forget to return your PC setting to the original - usually just checking a box in the Properties of the ethernet adapter to "Obtain IP Address Automatically"

All in all we are pleased with the Engenius EOC2611P units and plan to acquire more.
Good AP . I have only had to restart it one time in 2 years. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the indicator lights are inside the housing, so you CAN'T SEE IT unless you take the front access panel off. Since I installed it about 12 ft high, I would LOVE to look up and see the status lights.
Wap 802.11g Long Range Outdoor Wireless AP . EOC2611P is a long range outdoor wireless client bridge / access point that operates seamlessly in the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum and provides high bandwidth up to 108Mbps with SuperG. EOC2611P features high transmit power and high receive sensitivity, which extend wireless range and coverage.Default ip address of 192.168.1.1. Relatively easy to set up if you have configured routers and access points. Inexpensive, powerful, but a bit directional, which requires lining up AP/antenna when connecting physically distant networks.
Excellent product . I am committee member of drag racing club and we were faced with the challenge of getting timeslips printed in the pits once the competitors were finished their races. As this is an old racing circuit, there is not provision for running underground cable etc. and running over the ground would have meant crossing the track which is impossible.I came across this unit while doing my research and was impressed with the specs and moreso the price. I was however, still a little skeptical. That was until this weekend when we put it to work. The pits are about 1/4 mile from the start tent where the master computer is. I connected up the AP and attached it to an extension paint pole and put it about 15 ft in the air. Once we got to the pits with the laptop, we were pleasantly surprised to see an almost perfect signal. The unit worked flawlessly and we are happy with the purchase. As a precaution we had purchased the optional Outdoor 8DBI 2.4GHZ Omni Antenna and the TRENDnet Low Loss Reverse SMA Female to N-Type Male Weatherproof Connector Cable, but have not had to use them.Great product!!!
Great Product . This AccessPoint is a great product. I purchased it with an external Omni directional antenna and the cable required. The quick setup worked perfectly. You will need at least 2 RJ-45 ethernet cables for this device. You will need one to go from the power over ethernet injector to the AP and a second one to go from your computer to the power injector.

Once configured, it went into the attic where temps easily reach 120 degrees F and it is running great! The omni directional antenna is 8db gain and the output on the AP goes to 28db. You can crank out some signal with this device.

Enjoy!
Engenius 2611 . My brother is an expert instaling this Engenius, but the problem that we're having is when it conected to the Linksys Router. I don't know because the Router is kind of old, but I don't get any kind of signal in my PC Computer on my home office. I have to use my laptop with my Alfa Network which is a wireless usb adapter for internet too to get signal. I have to check if I find signal in other room. My brother is going to work on that. In the beginning its was working for a couple of weeks but then I lost the signal. This is still good, don't get me wrong because my brother has one and his friend too and are working for them. We just have to find a good location where I can get signal. I might have update my router. If you are been having any problem with yours, you can comment and I can contact my brother to help you with the instalation, but he charge a fee. Se habla espanol tambien.

Cons Review
Engenius EOC2611P . One month after the purchasing EOC2611P, the device stopped working and before that it persisting kept on dropping off-line. I contacted Engenius California office to resolve the problem and they were utterly useless both in customer care and responsiveness. After carrying out their recommended tests, Engenius finally succumbed to the fact that the unit was faulty. Most of the configurations on the device as recommended in their manual do not function, such as auto DHCP mode and multiple SSID function, etc.
I requested that they replaced the unit under warranty as the unity was virtually new. I was informed that to send them initially an advance payment of $99 and later they will refund the money after testing the unit when they had already confirmed the device was faulty. I was also informed that under their RMA policy they do not offer a free shipment or a new device but a secondhand replacement. As the cost of shipment exceeded the price of EOC2611P it was more economical to purchase a similar device better than EOC2611P. If you purchase the device then you are on your own and the only salvation is to return it to Amazon, if the purchase is not a market placed order. Be prepared to loose the money if you opt for Engenius products. How do companies like Engenius are allowed to get away.
Most disappoint experience.
Problem passing DHCP to Linksys Routers . We have a large wifi network and have IT certs and experience with wifi. When you configure this as a client bridge and put a linksys (or d-link, netgear, etc.) router behind these the Engenius unit refuses to pass DHCP to the linksys router nor let the linksys router on to the internet (even if you give the linksys a static IP). Engenius tech support just keeps saying "it should just work" but it does not. Strange thing is a PC works just fine, it's only the routers that don't get out on to the internet. We are very frustrated and will be changing vendors unless we can get the Engenius to act as a router or get a solution from their tech support. It's currently not working in client bridge mode.
