Gets the job done! . This is my third media player, but first ASUS. I had two Western Digitals in the past. The first was given to me used and died within a month (no power). I bought a new one and it started having issues after about 3 to 4 months. It still had power but it wouldn't view anything but photos. So, I decided to switch brands.
So far, it plays all of my home movies and the digital copies of my DVDs/Blurays. It does not have a lot of bells and whistles but it doesn't need to have them. My 9 year old son and wife can use it with no problems. It also has an SD card slot which is perfect for taking the card directly out of the camera and popping it in to view the pictures/movies.
The HDMI auto-formatting is ok for my HDTVs, but it has some issues with you take it to a standard def TV (yes I still have one). I have to specifically set it to 480i/p for it to look normal.
Overall, its been a month and I've had no problems. Hopefully I don't update this in a few months with another "Death of a media player" story.

ASUS OPLAY_MINI/1A/NTSC/AS Media Player - Black Reviews
Great Media Player . What makes this a great purchase is the company behind ASUS, you can visit their website and download the latest firmware that fix some common problems and add new features to this fantastic media player.
After owning the Nbox v.3 I decided to purchase this box for another room at the house, this media player can play almost any media format, I had some problems before with the Nbox v3 sometimes they don't play some files for some reason this box can play any format that sometimes the Nbox have difficulties playing.

Not the greatest... . I've been looking for a media player to play RMVB files on my tv for quite some time and couldn't pass up on a $59.99 gadget. Everything looked good on paper; plays most popular file types out there. I was excited. Right off the bat the O!Play has a slight lag through its navigation. Also, you really have to point the damn remote at the remote sensor otherwise it won't do a damn thing! The forward and rewind buttons are worthless at 32x. Sometimes it won't rewind at all. I decided to move on and test the actual file types. Now I haven't tested everything it claims to play, but it certainly doesn't play flv files as advertised. I hate being lied to. The O!Play I got currently runs on firmware 1.0.7. I don't know if it's the latest, but I downloaded what I think is 1.1.3, but can't figure out how to upgrade it. If someone can tell me that would be awesome. Hopefully after updating the firmware this supposed beast of a media player will actually do what it claims. I really wanna like this thing, but at the moment it's not impressing me at all. At least it plays RMVB files like I wanted and displays subtitles for my foreign movies.
"O!" For AwesOme! . Can you Owesome?!?!
Asus Oplay Mini.
amazing little gadget/toy/entertainment thingy-ma-jing.
The Asus oplay is super light weight, not really something that matters a lot since you won't be the one holding it.
Compact, not exactly their are other no-brand smaller than this one, but the reason I choose this because its Branded Name and the remote control look like its better than the other. one word to describe the look of it (sexy)Not a First good impression
The first format I have try was MPEG4, The Audio wasn't in Sync with the Movie.(so sad)
Than I try a couple of MP4 Format Videos works GREAT!! (screaming with joy)
Only try the SDHC Memory Card, Ordering new External HD so I can test it out =) will keep updated on that part. This little gadget is capable of doing a lot of stuff with so much different type of features.Power Consumption is at 10w, I seen another player with half of that at 5w.(no name brand)Still need to test:Exclusive RightTxT auto subtitle detection
RMVB 720p,DAT FILE and AVI FILES.Overall: Looking to connect your External HD to your TV? THis is the gadget to do it.UPDATE:
Just Figure out how to install new firmware 1.1.4
For all the People That are still trying to figure out
You go to the website Asus oPlay Mini Site, You will see the firmware update in the tab somewhere.
Download>Unzip file>Open the ASUS FIRMWARE you downloaded>Put only the install into USB.
Start up asus LEt it finish loading and go to the option where it says update with USB in firmware section on the oplay.

Great and nifty product . Works wonderfully! You can even backup a dvd to an ISO and it will play your movie directly from the ISO without having to convert it.
A very nice media player . It is a very nice media player and money well spent. It can play every format that you can imagine.
Really Nice! . the menus are simple, that is ok, is really easy to install and use, good management/customization of subtitles, no problem playing multiples formats or 1080p/720p videos (no lag, no loading time).
the only cons could be that only have remote control navigation, but for the relation price/benefits is a really good option.

Good media player . I had been using Asus Oplay Mini since last month. The player is working well (I still have to try HD video though).
Also, the player is not able to play video captured by my Kodak (point-and-shoot camera) properly (no audio).Yesterday, I had tried HDMI connectivity with my Full HD TV. Things seems to be good so far.The player is really small and cute looking.
I didn't face any big issue with remote (as reported by others about remote button position). For a 16-GB pen-drive, the player takes around 1 minute to scan for media at start-up (ofcourse one can interrupt this scan, and manually navigate to required file).I tried HDMI interface, and am able to use it at 1080P (60Hz). The only issue is that once in a while, the player video setting gets reset to 480P (so I have to reconfigure it) at power-up.I could not compare video performance in HDMI and composite (output was decent in both mode for my 32 inches Full HD TV).

Cons Review
So promising but too flawed to recommend . I was so excited about this unit: MKV support, good looks, Asus name brand. When I received it, everything seemed great. The UI was a little laggy, but it played anything I threw at it, 1080p AVIs, MKVs, etc. Subtitles came through great too. Unfortunately, the remote control absolutely kills this unit. It's absolutely unusable without it. The remote only worked for me when I was about 6 inches from the receiver. Even at this distance, it was frustratingly unreliable. I've read other reviews for the O!Play mini and others have encountered the same issues. If you buy it, just remember, you're rolling the dice with the remote control. I don't think every unit will exhibit this behavior, but I would probably look elsewhere, ecspecially with the $59.99 asking price.
