With the Microsoft 4-port router, you can connect up to four computers to a single broadband connection (with cable or DSL modem), share files and printers with other computers on your network at up to 100 Mbps, or play games with multiple players on the Internet and within your own network.

Included with the Microsoft 4-port router is an easy-to-use setup wizard, designed to make connecting your computers together easier. The router comes with strong security features, including a built-in firewall, Network Address Translation (NAT), and access control lists. The 4-port router easily connects to your network with universal plug and play for functionality such as voice messaging, video messaging, and games. You can also monitor your network status easily with Microsoft broadband network utility.

Along with the 4-port router, you'll receive a stand (detachable), a power supply cable, an Ethernet cable, a startup guide, a user's guide, a setup CD-ROM, and a blank floppy disk.

System requirements include a computer with a network adapter to configure the router, and external broadband (cable, DSL, or other) modem with Ethernet port (not compatible with dial-up modems), Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or later to view and use the router management tool, and an available 120 V AC power outlet.

Additional requirements include: a computer with processor running Windows 98, 98 SE, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Professional, or XP Home Edition; Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (setup will install Internet Explorer 6.0 browser components, if necessary, but will not displace your primary browser); 28 MB of available hard-disk space if you already have Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 (132 MB of available hard disk space if you are installing Internet Explorer for the first time); a 4x or faster CD-ROM drive, and a VGA or higher resolution monitor

Note: Not all Internet service providers (ISPs) allow the sharing of a broadband connection. Please check with your ISP.

Very nice reliable router . Usually, I shy away from Microsoft hardware just because they are such a stinking monopoly. However, I purchased this device on the basis of it's price, features and benefits. I have been running this router for 2 years NON-STOP. It has only been off when the power was out, and when it is on, it is constantly in use. I networked our appartment with it, and my roommate has a sleep schedule exactly opposite of mine, so I use it heavily in the day, and he is on it all night. No hardware problems, it is simply a reliable router.

I do not, however, recomend using the software that comes with the router, the "Base Station Managment Tool" or whatever. This is a useless piece of software unless you like to see useless information that is available elsewhere on your computer arranged in one window. It is a waste of space on your disk and has basically no real benefits. Simply plug your router into your broadband, and into each computer. From any computer, go to the "Router Management Tool", which is firmware located on the router itself (type 192.168.2.1 in your browser address line and hit go) and change any settings you need to from there (such as logon information for your ISP). By the way, the person who had to have the original computer on for any subsequent computer to work, this was the mistake they were making. The logon information for their ISP was stored on HER COMPUTER instead of the BASE STATION. Therefore, her computer had to be on in order for the base station to log on to her ISP. Anybody in my appartment is connected to the internet REGARDLESS of what computers are on or off or whatever, which is how it is designed to work, with proper use.

Anyway, if you use this router correctly, and in its simplest form (plug it in to ISP, plug it into computers, no extra software installation), it is super easy and reliable. I would reccomend this product for even people with limited networking knowledge, its simple and works like a charm.
Microsoft Networking 10/100 Ethernet 4-Port Router Reviews
Easy to use . This is an extremely easy device to set-up. The documentation is clear, and would make it very easy for even the novice to use. Also this is a very small device. You are able to stand it on it's side and and it takes up practically no space. You can't go wrong if you need this type of item.I would also recommend, if you don't want to use or install the network card, the USB/ethernet adapter. It is another good ad-on. Put your bad feelings toward MS aside, and give this a shot.
Microsoft Networking 10/100 Ethernet 4-Port Router Opinions
5 - 10 minute set-up! Very easy to install. . I bought this so I could continue to use my PC while on Xbox Live. It was very easy to set up and it only took about 10 minutes to have up and running.
Suprisingly Easy to Use and Setup . Once I took this out of the box, I was able to have a network up and running in 5 minutes. I was very suprised as to how easy it was to set up and allow all the computers on the network to share my cable connection. The included software makes everything very simple, and I would definatly recommend this to anyone who wishes to put together a small network in their house or office.
Just the thing for XBox Live . I was looking for a cheap router that was compatible with XBox Live, and this was it. I had it up and running with no problems whatsoever in about 10 minutes, and I've had flawless operation ever since. If all you are looking to do is share your high-speed internet connection between two pc's or with an XBox, then I highly recommend this product.
Very very reliable device. . I like to [critisize] Microsoft as much as the next person, but this router/switch works very well, and is easy to setup.Though, initially, the firmware upgrade methods were rather tedious to apply, MS subsequently changed their web updates to include one which other manufacturers use, i.e. to download a firmware update file and apply it locally when convenient.I'm very happy with this router and use it for a home network consisting of 2 notebooks (wireless) and 2 desktops sharing cable modem internet access. I use an SMC wireless access point as one of the "inputs" to this router.
Very Easy to Use . My home-network consists of 2 desktops and a notebook. I used to own a DLink 704P until it actually burnt out one day. Unlike the Dlink, the MS base station is by far easier to setup and configure. I just attached all the wires, ran the wizard on each computer, and my network was sharing the DSL connection. It also has a built in switch which allows for easy filesharing over the network. Which is especially great for playing multiplayer games, something which the DLink had much difficulty with. The computers were always able to detect each other in the multiplayer games I started. The included manual was very detailed and informative, versus the generic vague "we expect you to know this stuff" manuals I've encountered with other products. My only complaint is that there is no print server, otherwise it would have received 5 stars. Other than that, this is a perfect solution for your router/networking needs.
Works great with XBOX!! . I bought this router so I could have the internet and XBOX Live running simultaneously. It took just a few minutes to set up, and was very simple. I would highly recommend it!
microsoft networking router . The price was good. the unit was delivered on time. But there were no instructions of how to get the unit up and running. I read the reviews about how easy it was to get it working but to this date I still don't have it working.

Cons Review
so so . The installation was fine but when I wanted to network to anothercomputer the router turns off everytime the base computer is off.So if I want to work on the second computer I first have to startup the main computer then make sure the routing number is up and working(lots of times is not) then go to the second computer towork.
