Serial ATA (SATA) is the latest form of computer connectivity, featuring faster transfer speeds, easier configuration, and the ability to hot swap drives. With the Vantec SATA/eSATA PCI Host Controller, you can add the features and functionality of eSATA to your computer. By providing an internal SATA port, the PCI Host Card offers the expandability to add a hard drive to you system. With the external SATA port, both the PCI Host Card gives the flexibility of adding a high speed connection to an external hard drive. Traditionally, one would use USB 2.0 to connect to external hard drives. While USB 2.0 offers reasonably fast speeds at 480Mbps, SATA transfers at a speed of up to 1,500Mbps! Take advantage of SATA on your computer with the Vantec SATA/eSATA PCI Host Card.

Brings SATA to PCI . This has one internal SATA socket and one external ESATA socket. It runs at 1.5 Gbps maximum (compared to 3 Gbps for some motherboard interfaces). Still, that's 3X of USB2 and 2X of Firewire 800.
I bought an ULTRA external enclosure that had ESATA and it worked so well that I decided to get this interface card for my old PC.
I'm pleased with it.

Vantec UGT-ST300 2-Port eSATA II-150 PCI Host Card Reviews
works great with Sun Solaris . I bought 2 of these cards to add eSata to a Sun X4100 server I use at home. The slots in the Sun box only support the short height cards, so these just fit using the shorter brackets that come with them. I added a pair of Lacie 1 TB eSata drives and created a ZFS mirror for full redundancy of controllers and drives. I've been running Solaris 10 x86 (10/2008) with no problems for about 4 months now.
Update: July 2011. Cards still working great in the same server, running 24/7 for over 2 years now.

Vantec UGT-ST300 2-Port eSATA II-150 PCI Host Card Opinions
Works perfectly . I first tried the Cables Unlimited card in the PCIe x 1 slot on the motherboard, but my Dell E510 with XP SP3 and a Pentium 4 froze on start up. I almost gave up but decided to look some more. The instructions with the Vantec card were much better and it uses the normal PCI slot. I was dreading start up, but it continued like a charm!!! If you are looking to add an internal SATA and external eSata capability to your computer, this is the way to go.

Slightly Complicated? . It works well with the Asus (VIA chipset) motherboard I happen to be using. Recognize, it's already an antique piece of equipment? But it allowed me to add a "SATA" Blu-Ray drive to this system. So far, so good.Plays Blu-Ray discs without a "hiccup", at DMA-6. Might just order something newer from Vantec, see how many working "SATA" ports I can get on this computer? I only needed ONE, and this card did it!
Plugged Right In On A Dell E510 . Had no problem. Only one slot open. PCI. Plugged right in and was recognized by the motherboard without a problem. Am running Vista Ultimate on one harddrive and Windows 7 on another...have had no problem with either and I'm running a blu-ray player on it internally. Good card. Good Price.
eSATA PCI Host Card . This PCI card works great! After installing the card and the included driver and plugging in the eSATA cable, my external hard drive communicated without a hitch. The only minor issue with the card is the placement of the external eSATA port is slightly closer to one side of the bracket than the other side, so it was not easy to plug the cable in all the way. However, it still worked fine.
eSATA Cuts Backup Time to External HD by Half . I do my backups to an external hard disk, and found an eSATA model for the same price as the USB models. I installed the Vantec card - it takes about a minute if you have a spare slot - and installed the drivers, which will require a reboot. Total time, less than 5 minutes, and after I plugged in the HD, it was instantly recognized and worked flawlessly. I tried backups to this drive using both eSATA and USB, and the eSATA times were less than half the USB times. The Vantec also has an internal eSATA connector, but I don't need that and haven't tested it, but wouldn't anticipate any problems. Easy, cheap, fast, what's not to like? Highly recommended.
NOT hot-swap on 03 server . have 3 of these... none are hot-swap in 2003 server (or sbs2003), but they do work. there is a rosewill sold cheaper that is EXACTLY the same card.
Cons Review
amazing Amazon return policies . Did not work on older Intel ATX board. Documentation and mfg. web site was of little value.
Earned 2 Star rating even though it did not work due to amazing Amazon return policies and procedures. I have been purchasing my electronics through NewEgg and Amazon is much, much better with returns.

Buggy but good performance . Had trouble booting and tech support was no help. The trouble continued to happen intermittently until I replaced it with LaCie 130823 eSATA PCI Card Design by Sismo. The problems went away immediately.
