Great device to share devices with two PC's BUT... . This is a small, handy little device to share a single keyboard, video monitor, and mouse (hence the initials KVM) with two computers. All old KVM switches only allow you to share PS2-compatible mice and keyboards between your machines. However, this new model has two built-in USB ports that allow you to share USB devices between the PC's. (Also, this new unit allows the monitor resolution to be up to 1920 X 1440 pixels -- much higher than the original units that could only handle 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768.It works well -- though there is a 3 to 4 second delay when you press the button to switch between computers and the PC wakes up and loads the drivers for your USB devices. Here are the two issues I've found with this device: 1. Sharing a PS2 keyboard was problematic, with both machines sometimes not sensing that it was attached at times. I purchased a USB keyboard and connected it to the device and it's working perfectly now.2. If you'll be playing games on one or both machines, you won't be able to hold down a key on a PS2 keyboard to walk or run -- again, the USB keyboard I purchased solved this issue and allowed me to hold down a key and walk/run.

Hawking Technology CS112U 2-Port USB KVM Switch Reviews
Great USB KVM . I will preface this by saying I never tested the ps/2 ports on the kvm switch, the problems the other reviewers had are not unusual with any kvm that only uses the ps/2 ports for the keyboard and mouse. Instead, I used a Logitech usb keyboard and a Microsoft mouse plugged into the usb ports. Once the proper drivers are installed on the machines, switching is wonderfully easy, just hitting the scroll lock key twice ( this way you can hide the unattractive switch). There is a few second delay before your mouse responds while the drivers are loaded when you switch computers in usb mode, which is tolerable. My main concern was the video quality, as I use a 21 inch montior at 1600x1200 resolution and often the cheaper units will degrade the video quality on larger monitors. I have not noticed any problems! Video quality is unaffected to my eyes.My only complaint is that there is a beep emitted when I switch pc's that I wish I could shut off, as it can get annoying if you switch back and forth a lot. I also wish I had bought a 4 port unit, but that's my fault...

Hawking Technology CS112U 2-Port USB KVM Switch Opinions
No problems at all! . I had no problems at all with this product. I'm switching between XP and 2000 with a Logiteck MX700 mouse and an old PS2 keyboard. 2 Weeks, no locks or hang-ups.

not bad . this switch isnt all too bad, word=ks fine with my 2 button wheel mouse, only thing is, i have to use two keyboards, but much better than having to use two mice two monitors, etc etc. not a bad price for it either

Satisfaction . I had PS2 switch and now for my new USB mouse and keyboard, I bought this switch. The description to me clearly suggested that it is fully USB compliant. After buying it I read Customer reviews. The reviews scared me as it seemed the hot keys on my keyboard will not work and my MS 4 button optical mouse with scroll wheel will function only like a two button mouse and no scrolling. I also read the data sheeet from Hawking website. There they mention that this switch works with most keyboards and mouse. This made me feel that I had bought the wrong thing. However on receipt of the switch, I found that with proper connections, most of the hot keys work and all the 4 buttons plus the scroll wheel work. I am happy having bought this at a discount at Amazon Marketplace.
Cons Review
Caution: Doesn't work with all USB keyboards or mice . If you are planning on using a USB keyboard that has multi-media buttons or a USB mouse with a scroller wheel, it may not work with this KVM. I got my KVM and it worked great until I plugged a Microsoft Natural Pro keyboard into it. Windows XP would not recognize the keyboard and Hawking tech support said this KVM does not support non-standard 101 keyboards or mice with scroller wheels.
Not for multibutton mouse or extended keyboard. Slow Support . I'm using two Windows 2000 machines with a Logitech MX700 USB mouse and Logitech Elite USB Keyboard. When I hooked up this switch I found that the mouse and keyboard don't work after swithing between systems.I emailed Hawking support and waited two days for an answer.Their reply was, "please make sure to use 2-button standard mouse with no wheel and 101-key standard keyboard." This is despite the fact that the product box says "support (sic) most USB & PS/2 Mouse, USB & PS/2 Keyboard."Unless you have a very simple mouse and keyboard, don't bother buying this product.
flaky. doesn't work as advertised. . When I bought this, they claimed mac support. Now they've removed that from their spec. Firstly, there's a three to five second delay on each switch over before the mouse and keyboard become active. Secondly, after a switch, the keyboard often acts as if the ALT or CONTROL key are stuck down (they aren't) and one has to hit all the control, shift and alt keys to clear that state. Sometimes, the keyboard doesn't work at all after a switch over.Lastly, the mouse pointer loses it's speed and acceleration settings after a switch over (on both the PC and the mac) and sometimes on the PC it loses the wheel mouse control as well. And sometimes the mouse pointer doesn't move at all after a switch. These are obviously unacceptable behaviors for a KVM. They also use the windows key as the mac command key for emulation, a poor choice. No mac support for USB keyboards. Customer service was clueless and unhelpful.
2 stars is generous . A productivity killer. I cannot count the minutes I've pissed away trying to get this thing out of a state whereby Caps Lock is seemingly on. Not to mention the cumulative seconds waiting for it to switch from one machine to the other. Thankfully, I didn't buy this thing, but inherited it from my boss. This is what ulcers are made of.
