Required compiling their driver version . Running kernel 2.6.35 on Ubuntu 10.10, the new NIC could be seen, but no traffic would pass on it until I compiled and installed Startech's driver module, which is slightly different from the version for ASIX devices included with the kernel source. Once compiled and installed, it works fine. The StarTech instructions are a bit unclear on the process though, and you do need your kernel sources to do this.

WOW! It really worked! . I needed to add some network interfaces to a couple of servers that were out of PCI slots, so I grabbed 5 of these. The price was a bit higher, but they did say Gigabit on them! I was very pleasantly surprised! I jabbed the USB cable into the server, whipped out the SSH client, logged in and hesitated...I was afraid to type ifconfig -a I held off for a couple of minutes, the forced myself to...HOLY COW! The interface was there! I configured it real quick and then did a throughput test on it, it was just a hair shy of the speed that I get from a good Intel server card. I am very pleased with these and will keep a couple around just in case I need them, very good.
