TP-Link products rock! . I bought the adapters from Amazon marketplace seller Flytec Computers in Miami and they had a great price and excellent customer service. I emailed them before buying because I was concerned that I might get adapters with EU plugs on them since the photo on Amazon shows the EU version. But they responded promptly and assured me that they have US plugs, and they do!
A little background- I previously owned Xyzel powerline adapters and they worked, but then failed after a few months and so did a router I owned from the same company, so I swore that brand off.
I've owned a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND router for over a year and it is by far the most solid router I've ever owned (easy setup, reliable and fast) so I've become a TP-Link fan.
We tried a MS wireless N adapter for our older X-Box that's on the 2nd floor but it didn't get the throughput it should have been getting, and video just wouldn't stream successfully with it. So I still had a need to get ethernet up to that X-Box, and I happened upon these adapters from TP-Link online. So I bought them with only about three reviews to go by on the entire web, because I'm a TP-Link fan girl:).
Well, just like the router, they are super easy to get up and running- just plug them in and they connect! It's really that easy. I didn't even press the QOS button on them. The X-Box was off of the ethernet cable that I had running up my staircase, and onto the powerline network in literally minutes! We use the X-Box to stream recorded TV from our NAS and HTPC and for X-Box live Netflix streaming, and the powerline speed has been just as good as the ethernet was- no macroblocking or lagging at all.
My house is over 60 years old with three extensions and all different ages and types of wiring between them, and these things work in it. I've tried them in several rooms now.
I haven't installed the utility software on any computers. It is not required to get them connected. Nothing is required to get them connected except plugging them into the wall and the client and having one plugged into your router or ethernet switch.
I plugged them directly into the wall outlet which is recommended, but I read a review from one guy who plugged one into a surge protector and still got just as stong a throughput.
I am very happy I bought these adapters and recommend Flytec as well!

Super! . I bought this for my brother as a birthday present and now I'm the cool sis. His 2-story house has his modem and router upstairs, but he needed internet feed downstairs for his TV and he's worried enough about hackers that he refuses to go wireless. Running cable or this solution were our only options. He called to report 1) it had arrived, 2) it was installed (in 5 minutes) and 3) it was working even better than he'd imagined. His cable throughput averages 18Mbps and he tested to find he was "only" getting 9Mbps through the Homeplug. As he said, fully adequate for streaming. As we parted company on the phone, he was happily streaming Netflix and he's reported impeccable service ever since.
