Item was NEW & performed as expected right out of the box . Ordered this item Thursday 1/20/11 & received via UPS Monday 1/24/11 well packaged for delivery. Item was brand new in manufacturer's sealed package. I had a previous item just like this one so I had previously used the CD-ROM to load the driver software on my laptop. All I did was unpack, plug-N-play, enter password for my Wi-Fi network & VOILA! the device connected immediately & began communication & interaction with previously loaded software including anti-virus & system maintenance along with web surfing. This is two (2) of these devices I own & due to their exceptional performance I highly recommend them to anyone needing a USB Wi-Fi dongle. The price is ~right~ & would cost much more in a store-front location I'm certain + taxes. KUDOS to AMAZON.com & [...]Keep up the terrific work~!

OK signal strength with included antenna works GREAT for packet injection. . I needed something I could use to inject packets with my macbook. This product works great for packet injection because it uses the RTL8187 chipset. It works in kismac (but the software in kismac is old, so you can't really do much with it) and also works great with aircrack-ng in a virtual machine.
Sadly, the range and power of this device are limited. It gets worse reception than the internal airport card of my macbook (to be fair, it gets to use the whole screen as a massive antenna). I bought a 8dBi parabolic antenna, which should bring the broadcast distance up significantly.
As I said, this device is also fairly low power. While some devices claim to have a watt or more of transmitting power, in linux this device only reports 20dBm transmit power (100mW), and is rated even lower. However, it seems OK for most purposes, and it's pretty small. Those high-power things are pretty massive, and this is very portable. It doesn't consume all that much power either.
So, if you want a super cheap USB device for packet injection, I recommend this adapter.

Works with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS . Works like a charm without any issues. Been running for months now without shutting down.

So Far So Good! . Ordered this on a Saturday. Received it the following Wednesday. I followed the instructions and 10 minutes later I was up and running with wireless Internet service. I read other reviews about this item and based on those reviews, I felt this was the one to buy. The price was right and I have no complaints so far. If something bad happens, I'll be back to fill you in on the problem.
I like the fact that it has a movable antenna. I decided to move my office upstairs. My Internet connection is hard wired downstairs. I love my laptop, but have a problem typing with the small keys. I wanted my desktop computer upstairs so I could type on a full size keyboard. With the movable antenna, I can aim it down so it picks up the signal perfectly. I have it plugged into one of the USB receptacles in the rear of the CPU. That way it doesn't stick out where someone could accidently hit it and break it. As to the issue with losing the cap, I recommend you put it in the box with the installation CD and you won't lose it.
