The Wi-Fi Booster enables you to extend your existing wireless network, providing coverage to your entire home. The Wi-Fi Booster uses Smart Beam technology to provide your home with complete coverage. Smart Beam seeks out and beams wireless signal directly to your wireless devices. By doing so, you get a stronger signal with less interference and less dropped connections. Smart Beam works in real-time, so you can move around your home with your wireless devices without losing this superior signal.

A decent buy! Worth trying. . In my scenario, my goal was to extend the 5 Ghz band from my DLink DIR-825 out to a dead spot in the back porch for Netflix streaming. Now it didn't quite do that as expected but there are some options to work with on the device.

There are two modes that can work with the device that a few people might not understand even after reading through the marketing material. The first option what most people might be familiar with is AP Mode. AP Mode can create from where there is a non-existent wireless environment to a wireless one simply by plugging into your existing router and configuring. If your router already has wireless configured and can somewhat extend the wireless signal ever so slightly. I found that the 2.4 GHz band performance had a slight boost but not so much the 5 GHz band I was already running.

The other mode that can be used is a Bridge Mode. In this configuration you would plug any devices into the Booster which will act as the antenna for them and then configuring the Booster to connect to the existing wireless in the area. This can increase performance by providing a better wireless antenna that might otherwise be more inferior in some devices that can't quite keep a steady signal. This is where their SmartBeam technology comes into play.

A couple of things to understand though...
1) You cannot connect a wireless device to it wirelessly and expect the Booster to relay that back to your router in Bridge Mode. They have to use a cable to the Booster first.
2) Also in Bridge Mode, if the area that you're looking to expand is dead enough where a particular band cannot be seen or is extremely weak, the Booster will not compensate for it. It needs to connect to it just as any other normal device would.
3) Despite the fact that it can support 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, it can only use one or the other at not at the same time in AP Mode.

Ultimately in my scenario, I ended up using it in Bridge Mode by connecting the movie player to it and then bridging back to the router on the 2.4 band as the 5 GHz band was just too weak to stay consistent. This still improved streaming performance greatly and left a satisfactory feeling for the purchase. By looking at the stats on the router when the Booster is connected to it and is streaming, there is a higher data rate then connecting devices to the router without it. Overall, I'm happy with the device although the price for what you're getting is just a tad steep. Definitely worth a try if you are experiencing a scenario such as this. I suppose you could always return it if it doesn't work out.
D-Link Wi-Fi Booster Smart Beam Dual Band AP (DAP-1525) Reviews
Excellent Range - Extremely SImple No Instructions needed.. . This Device worked fine for us so not sure what the previous reviewer is having issues with.

The "instructions" are about like all DLINK products really, just like the web gui is for that matter, just ajdust your nic and login and configure.

FIVE minutes to do this at home then, Deployed perfectly to the Irving Dental Office (as Access Point)..

Connect to 192.168.0.50 and configure the Device..

I beleive WPS has to be supported on your current WLAN/LAN in case that was the guys issue.

Range was noticably improved - I went into a large storage closet area to the back wall with the door closed, then outside the office accross into the next business property 25' with the door closed, farthest end from the SmartBeam Radio, and 5 bars in Windows7 the entire time..

Looks good to me,
jc

SO it is a WAP or a Bridge, AND a 4 PORT GIGABIT SWITCH, AND A USB 2.0 PORT, for storage and other devices as well..
D-Link Wi-Fi Booster Smart Beam Dual Band AP (DAP-1525) Opinions
The Smart Beam is a Smart purchase . Since this purchase, I never loose my network connection. Laptops, Roku devices, smart phones all stay connected with high strength signals. In a word: Awesome!
Internet WiFi signal booster . I consider myself a medium computer user having dealt with various computers and operating systems since DOS 3.0 and windows 95. The Internet is such a great addition to the experience for me beginning to enjoy it since Prodigy online service and dial up. Installing WiFi in my home was relatively easy but needing to expand the signal soon became even more important. After looking at other brands and types of signal enhancement technology I settled on the D-Link DAP-1525. My only complaint is with the printed installation brochure as it is very poorly written however the manual on the included CD is excellent so 5 star rating remains.
Great Product!! . Tried a linksys/cisco home router and the signal kept dropping and now switched to this device and not a single dropped instance. Great product and easy to setup .
Excellent Product . I have been using this AP since October and have had nothing but good things to say about it. I live in a town that is prone to power fluctuations and this AP has been hit 3 plus time and with it plugged into my power-strip it has not lost a single setting or blown out like some other that i have had in the past. DLINK has proven again that they should be number 1 in WI-Fi and network technology. Will definitely buy more and will probably get them from here as long as the price is right.
Great Bridge . Ive had this for about a month now. I wanted the wireless signal from the xbox in my bedroom to be stronger, the router(NetGear N600) which is in the living room, has to send a signal through two brick walls, about 40 feet of distance. I synced the D-link wifi Booster to my router using the Bridge Mode, which is the 5ghz frequency, then hooked it up to my bedroom xbox and PlayStation. The signal more than doubled, I have very good connections in CoD, Netflix streaming is smooth now where as before I had one bar or none. haven't tried it as an Access Point, but as a bridge it's pretty dang good.

Cons Review
Don't waste your money . DLINK describe this product as a powerfull booster, really don't waste your money, is better if you buy a bigger Antena and install in your router also you should consider to buy a couple of Access Point before buy this bad Product.
My scenario is that I have the router (with Internet) and try to connect this Wi-Fi Booster but really the router give me more powerfull of signal than this product Wi-Fi Booster. Also try to change the mode of the Wi-Fi Booster to Bridge, but lost the signal suddenly, and the bad thing is that in that mode I have to connect directly by LAN (cable) my devices, the worse thing is that I have a Wii and this device doesn't have LAN port, is only Wi-Fi.Too sad because I live in other country and I don't have the opportunity to return it.
Be careful . I returned this product the day after I installed it. The written instructions are absolutely bizarre. Unless you have network and wireless configuration experience, you'll never get this thing going with just the printed instructions.

Once up and running, I saw absolutely no difference whatsoever in my home wireless network. Tried several different scenarios and locations -- nothing. According to the advertising claims on the box, I should have seen substantial network range improvement, etc. I saw nothing. Period.
